may as well start a fresh topic for his forthcoming album given the mixtape thread amassed five pages.
Take a break and enjoy some time off for once Drake!!
I’m always here for new Drake music but a whole album not so soon after the mixtape may be a bit too much!
But I’ll reserve judgement until I hear the whole thing. Wonder what the direction of the album will be and if sonically it’ll be different from the mixtape. I’m here for a Bruno collab though
His new single is called "Laugh Now Cry Later" and features Lil Durk.
Music Video:
Drake's new album is called Certified Lover Boy.
I like this, one of the best Drake singles in a long time
it's quite good but not really what I want from a Drake lead single, Lil Durk was definitely not needed on this either, especially with the runtime being 4:21.
Must likely another #10 for Drake on the Reshuffle Chart next week. Really liking this from Drake. It's good to hear that are other Drake fans on here.
Not instantly an all-time Drake fave but I do like it, the beat drops / the instrumental in general sounds great. Think it'll be a grower ~ (need to get used to the hook having so much empty space in it). It's actually probably the most instant Drake lead single for a while for me even still ('One Dance' and 'God's Plan' both took a few listens for me to get into properly).
Kind of cool to see Lil Durk getting a feature on a Drake lead single but he's definitely underutilised on this, I thought his part was decent but it's way too short to really have any impact on the song overall either way.
That album title is awful but I get the feeling it's intentional in a 'taking the piss out of himself' way (see also: the video for this song) lol xx
The album will be released in January.
Good to see confirmation of this now!
I think that’s actually a wise decision to release it then too. I think he could be in for another big era when this does drop but it’s good that there’ll be anticipation/ hype for this now there’s a rough time scale of when it’s coming out and hopefully (although I’m not holding my breath) there’ll be a physical release too.
All the year end chart accolades will be his then, in the US at least.
But it's wise move as his popularity is fading a bit overall - same with Justin Bieber last year. Yummy was one of the biggest streaming hits for months due to early release.
ah, was hoping we'd get it this year but it makes sense from his POV to wait until January which is historically a quiet time as he probably doesn't have much chance against the big physical sellers of Q4. (also he really needs a BIG hit to lead into it, LNCL just wasn't it).
Q4 makes no sense for drake
it's not like anyone is gonna buy a Drake CD as a Xmas present
Officially delayed:
Drake shared the news earlier tonight (January 20) in an Instagram story.
“I was planning to release my album this month but between surgery and rehab my energy has been dedicated to recovery,” he wrote, referring to a knee injury he sustained in the fall of 2020. “I’m blessed to be back on my feet feeling great and focused on the album, but CLB won’t be dropping in January. I’m looking forward to sharing it with you all in 2021.”
He is also probably trying to find a chart smash from somewhere. The current global pop trends are not on his side. US will of course support him to some extent.
I mean he's already had one from this era so I think he's doing fine ~
Three new tracks out tomorrow at midnight EST.
I'm curious to know what the source is for it being 3 songs? The only thing he posted is the cover art and release date ~ (but I don't think this is the first time you've posted things that don't seem to have any source but then turn out to be true are you an industry insider or something xx)
Yeah, I'm not an insider and I haven't claimed to be one before.
"What's Next", "Wants and Needs" (featuring Lil Baby) and "Lemon Pepper Freestyle" (featuring Rick Ross) are available now and they are part of Scary Hours 2. The former is the focus song and the one to be promoted.
What's Next is sounding decent but not the big pop hit I was expecting him to release.
Wants and Needs is alright as album filler, that freestyle is way too long though especially with Rick Ross who I don't care for - won't be revisiting that one - I don't expect that'll be making the proper album anyhow.
So this is just an EP and not connected to Certified Lover Boy?
To be released next week.
I guess he's dropping it without a proper lead single then? (Well it's possible that 'Laugh Now Cry Later' / any of the 'Scary Hours 2' tracks may still be on it but at this point they're so long ago that they may as well be disconnected from the album release)
Apparently we may get a track called Too Sexy in the next couple of days
he’s now posted a lot of pregnant women emojis on Instagram to confirm what was teased in the sports center cutaway.
I hope we get it all at once in the day, there isn’t any need for a pre release single now when Kanye has all the attention for his album.
at least now Lana's album covers are not the worst
The features for the album have been/are being revealed in the form of billboards popping up in various cities.
Confirmed so far: Young Thug, Future, 21 Savage, Lil Baby, Lil Durk, probably Jay-Z (a billboard in NYC just referred to 'the GOAT'), GIVĒON, Ty Dolla $ign, Project Pat, YEBBA, Travis Scott and Tems.
In other words it's a hip-hop album in current year, with some R&B / afrobeats thrown in. Truly a shocker xx (also guess that probably means 'Laugh Now Cry Later' is still on the album and maybe 'Wants And Needs' too, although they could still be different songs with the same features)
I hope the song with 21 is more like 'Sneakin'' than 'Mr. Right Now'.
do we reckon its going to be an even longer album than Scorpion then? he may do it just to one up Kanye with his latest bloated album run time.
so no Ariana?
Out now, doesn't include any of the earlier singles.

Girls Want Girls is the track getting a push, it'll most likely go viral for the iffy you're lesbian? me too!!1 lyric
oh my is he really sampling Right Said Fred?
I wish I could 'get' Drake and his music but his albums are so f***ing boring for me. He sounds so bored and lifeless half the time and the hooks are forgettable.
how does this compare to 'thank me later'?
well I've given the whole thing a listen now and... given all the hype and waiting it's a big letdown oops, a lot of filler and not a lot of standouts. may give it another listen later in the week to see if anything grows given it is Drake but it's not as good as his last couple of albums.
I haven't listened to this yet of course but I can already tell just from the number of tracks on it that it's just going to be yet another bloated album with a few good songs and a ton of filler, as per usual from recent Drake albums. I guess the formula has still been working well for him and it looks like it's working again this time so no real reason to change but I do think it might do him some good to put out a shorter and more focused album one of these days anyway, he surely runs the risk of a critical mass of people eventually getting bored of this same album cycle every time. Either that or no one really cares and he'll just keep pumping out 20+ track albums for eternity and getting at least a couple of hits every time and being satisfied with that.
I'd love to see Billboard adopting a similar rule to the OCC in disregarding additional streaming beyond a certain number of tracks, the rules as they are just encourage these kind of mega bloated albums for stream trolling.
On an unrelated note I find it a little amusing that the song with Lil Baby is looking to be the highest charting one, after Lil Baby was also featured (uncredited) on Kanye's highest charting song this week in the end. He's really playing both sides of the beef and coming out on top
There's absolutely nothing on this worth going back to. Such a tediously dull album.
I'm here for Travis Scott and Travis alone.
I have listened to this and... what a complete bore of an album I couldn't recall a single lyric or moment on it that grabbed me (I think he sung "From the bottom to the top, man, what's it like in the middle?" at one point - but then practically every song he has done since "Started From The Bottom" has the same lyrics so idek ).
If we were to compare to another album released recently that is also overly long, at least Donda is full of character (whether you like the character or not is a different matter), is filled with some poingnant and powerful lyrics and KILLER production that keeps you on your toes. Certified Lover Boy has none of that - it is tedious, boring and a complete drag.
Oh Drake, what happened? He has some masterpiece albums but the recent few have been lifeless.
I must be the only one who likes the album.
Fantano's review and especially the comments below are cruel but funny.
"Drake is the type of guy who makes eye contact with you through the crack of a bathroom stall.
Drake is the type of guy who opens bag of potato chips with scissors.
Drake is the type of guy who pretends to sleep in a car, so his friends would carry him inside.
Drake is the type of guy who rides a horse with both legs on one side."
"This album cover annoys me so much, I absolutely hate it. It's like the most tiktok zoomer target group oriented thing possible, by an artist who is trying his hardest to appeal to everyone in the mainstream by being as bland as possible ON TOP OF IT."
"drake has become a complete parody of himself"
"This whole album just came across as SO SHALLOW to me. Read the room, bruh. You're dropping this fboy nonsense when folks are coming out of major loss & a year of lockdowns. Nobody wants to hear how much money you have & how u dislike your son & just want to h03 in clubs."
"grow up knowing damn well he wasn't wanted. Drake's gonna make sure of that."
"The entire point of this project seems to just be Drake trying to remind his son that he was an accident that he wanted the world to never know about."
etc etc
That Michelle sample, swear I've heard it in another hip hop track but can't recall!
Ah yes that's the exact bit, thanks! Mind you, I've never heard of that guy nor the song. I thought it was on a old Kanye album track or something.
Not his best album, but I like it a lot! Favorite song is Fair Trade, and Get Along Better
Banger
I'm loving Girls Want Girls atm, probably my fave song from his since Nice For What but I really wish he'd had literally anyone other than Lil Baby as a feature, one of the most unpleasant voices in rap.
He’s got 9 of the newly released Billboard top 10 with only ‘Stay’ by Bieber/Kid Laroi at 6 being the Drake free track. ‘Way 2 sexy’ the no.1 ahead of ‘Girls Want Girls’ and ‘Free Trade’. Must be a huge new record.
literally doing to Billboard what Sheeran did to our chart in 2017. But they probably won’t change their rules.
What an absolute legend.
He's matched The Beatles for the record of holding the entire top 5, broken his own record of 7 simultaneous top 10s and the album apparently instantly becomes the first studio album ever that contains more than 7 top 10 hits after tying that with 'Scorpion' (not sure if the latter stat accounts for deluxe editions and whatnot). He also got the entire album in the top 40 with 'The Remorse' the lowest at #35.
Now imagine what he would have done if people actually liked the album...!
Somewhat surprisingly 'Way 2 Sexy' is the first Hot 100 #1 for Future, and it's the third for Young Thug, brownie points to anyone who remembers what the second one was without looking it up I was one of the few people who loved 'FRANCHISE' and even I forgot that it counts as a Young Thug #1
Well... this album has more highlights on it than his three track EP earlier in the year did. But only barely.
He managed 4/21 songs that make me want to listen to them again ('Fair Trade' is great - thank you Travis - and 'No Friends In The Industry'/'You Only Live Twice'/'Love All' are also good). The rest ranges from just decent to terminally dull, with more songs leaning towards the latter than the former. 'Knife Talk' in particular was a disappointment, I had decent hopes for that knowing that it was apparently a song that was originally intended for 21's last album which I loved but it turned out being just ok (still one of the better songs here and probably still better than 'Mr. Right Now' but meh), I guess there's a reason it got cut I really don't know what happened here, he has always occasionally dropped boring songs but never before this overwhelmingly. Even 'Way 2 Sexy' was just boring more than anything else to me, I don't hate it as much as some have but I almost wish I did just so it made me feel something.
