Iceland
Greta Salóme - Hear Them Calling

Posted by: AdamAloud 16th October 2015, 10:06 AM

QUOTE
Following on from the earlier announcement that Iceland would again use the Söngvakeppnin national final to select its 2016 entry, Icelandic broadcaster RUV has now confirmed dates and the format the competition will take.

In 2016 Söngvakeppnin will be celebrating its 30th anniversary and the broadcaster is promising something special, saying, “We are diving into this year’s preparations with big enthusiasm!” And as Hera Björk told us recently, Icelanders really know how to party.

The format is largely the same as what was used in 2015. The competition is only open to songwriters with Icelandic citizenship or permanent residence in Iceland. However, Icelandic songwriters are able to co-write with non-Icelandic songwriters, but two-thirds of the music and one half of the lyrics must be contributed by an Icelandic songwriter.

All songs in the semi-final must be performed in the Icelandic language, but in the grand final songs must be performed in the language intended for its Eurovision performance. Last year, five of the seven finalists were performed in English, with “Lítil skref” becoming “Unbroken”.

The deadline for submitting songs to RUV is 2 November. To find out more about entering, visit RUV.

There’ll be two semi-finals, and three songs from each semi will progress to the final. There’ll also be a wildcard pick from the remaining semi-finalists, making a total of seven songs in the final.

In the final, the seven songs will be narrowed down to two superfinalists via a 50/50 jury and televote. The overall winner will then be selected by 100% televote.

The semi-finals will be held on 6 and 13 February 2016, and the grand final will be held on 20 February.

RUV’s rules also state that technically it is only the song that wins Söngvakeppnin, not the performer(s). After the winning song has been chosen, RUV then internally selects the performers who’ll be going to Stockholm. It is safe to assume that RUV will go with the existing lead singer(s) of the winning song, but as we saw earlier this year when María Ólafs’ dancers from Söngvakeppnin didn’t make it to Vienna, the supporting performers won’t be guaranteed a ticket to Stockholm.

Greta the biggest name there I think with 2 songs, 1 of which she is performing herself!

Songs are up for your listening pleasure at the RUV website

Erna Hron is duetting with the guy who just won The Voice Iceland and they're doing a big old power ballad so the hype seems to be with them. Yes, Erna Hron might FINALLY win something!!1!11!!!

Just listened to Greta's song as I've seen it compared to Of Monsters and Men, and wow it is amazing! ohmy.gif Absolutely love the Of Monsters and Men-esque instrumental post-choruses, although I won't get any hopes up!

Sandra Kim will be performing at Söngvakepnnin as a special guest to mark 30 years since her win/Iceland's first participation.

Kreisí or NOTHING

Posted by: 💯 18th January 2016, 01:55 PM

Alda's song is the only decent one really. Too disappointing of a selection. i want another Ekki Líta Undan, (Erin's) Augnablik, Leyndarmál, Hugarró (Magni slayed!), utterly ikonec Kolbrun Eva in the yellow pregnancy gown. sad.gif

I'm very pleased with tonight's results overall

Iceland - perfect - will still flop though sad.gif
Sweden - perfect, couldn't have gone any better
Norway - would have preferred A1 but still Didrik has EASILY the second best song and definitely gave the best performance
Denmark - the song is actually growing on me hugely now!

anna 'couldn't have gone any better' bergendahl

Posted by: gooddelta 19th January 2016, 09:54 AM

That would have been a comment about one of the Melodifestivalen semi-finals, no? (that post being from February when the final is in March...)

We ALL know I wanted Keep On Walking or Kom to beat Bergendahl so I'd not have said that in regards to the final.

Posted by: 💯 19th January 2016, 10:18 AM

yeah, that was Semi 1. salem and ola qualified with road of salvation and yessika got to ac. hardly the perfect result either way ;_;

Posted by: gooddelta 19th January 2016, 10:29 AM

It was perfect for me, so I stand by that ;_; I can take or leave Road Salt but I still listen to the other three qualifiers there quite regularly.

Posted by: HelenSpark 19th January 2016, 10:16 PM

i really like Iceland and icelandic singers

Posted by: LexDANCE 19th January 2016, 10:56 PM

English version of 'Kreisi' which, surprise surprise, translates into English as 'Crazy'

Posted by: Ryan. 6th February 2016, 08:18 PM

Wait until you catch up on Greta's performance! The stage show is sensational, think Heroes but even bigger! ohmy.gif

Posted by: 💯 6th February 2016, 08:21 PM

hun. get MELODIFESTIVALEN into your heart for f***'s sake. you are an EMBARRASSMENT of a Eurovision forum moderator!

Posted by: Ryan. 6th February 2016, 08:24 PM

TABBED BROWSING!!

Posted by: Ryan. 6th February 2016, 08:55 PM

Let's hope it qualifies!

Posted by: 💯 6th February 2016, 08:58 PM

this is LITERALLY the performances of heroes and euphoria with a "2 for 1" discount.

beyond tragic. not to mention the song is average.

sorry for being russian :'( i'll try to change that next year

Posted by: AdamAloud 6th February 2016, 09:07 PM

The screen is giving me more gothic Perrelli 'The Girl' teas but it's pretty obvious an attempt at recreating Loreen and Måns.

Posted by: Iz~ 6th February 2016, 09:07 PM

And I'll try to change being straigh... wait this is a trap isn't it?

English versions of all the songs which are getting them are now out there. Baiscally the favourites are either Greta

or Alda Dis

Both of them are very good but if they want to be competitive then they've got to pick Greta surely!

Posted by: Ryan. 18th February 2016, 08:10 PM

I'm a big fan of them both too! I want Greta to win and even though she is favourite to win according to the odds, I'm thinking Alda is going to take it as her song is already a big radio hit apparently and she is last on in the running order while Greta is first (again!). Hopefully it will be these two in the superfinal although the Icelandic public have been oddly nearly perfect in their voting so far so I'm sure there's a mess-up to come!

Fun fact, one of the "support" members of Of Monsters and Men is on the 18 (!) person jury - I wonder if they will take Greta's Of Monsters and Men-esque song as a compliment or a rip-off! kink.gif

Voting
The voting will consist of two rounds. The first round of voting will be 50% jury vote and 50% televote, with the jury vote being decided by 18 jurors who are split into 6 groups of 3 based on 6 different Icelandic regions. The top two entries following this first round of voting will then progress to a superfinal where the winner will be decided by 100% televoting.

Potential Winners?
At the time of writing, Betfair has Alda Dís as 4/5 favourite with second favourite Greta Salóme not too far behind on odds of 6/5. Betsson is in agreement with Alda as slight favourite as her song is already a big radio hit in Iceland. Both Betfair and Betsson seem to believe it is a clear race between these two, Betsson has Karlotta third favourite on 9/1 while Betfair have gone for an act that hasn't even made the final so a bit of a mistake there!

Guest Performers
As part of the 30th anniversary celebrations, 1986 Eurovision winner Sandra Kim and 2012 Eurovision winner Loreen will be guest performers on tonight's show. Also, past Icelandic Eurovision entrants will be performing a medley of previous Icelandic entries.

god, this final is quite vadge-heavy this year! not that i mind~

Posted by: Ryan. 20th February 2016, 09:19 PM

I think I'm going to predict an Elisabet/Alda superfinal, but Greta really deserves to be there!

Posted by: Ryan. 20th February 2016, 09:54 PM

After a "WHAT IS ACTUALLY GOING ON HERE" voting scoreboard, we have seemingly ended up with a superfinal of Alda and Greta, Alda won the first round just - but Fridrik did last year and Maria won in the end so...

Posted by: AdamAloud 20th February 2016, 10:09 PM

Greta must win, the song has so much more going for it compared to the dullness of Alda.

Posted by: AdamAloud 20th February 2016, 10:32 PM

Icelandic host to Loreen: What do we have to do to fucking win this shit?
Loreen: The secret is not to give a fuck about the contest.

Amazing.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! GRETA WINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: AdamAloud 20th February 2016, 10:40 PM

Final version.

Easily the best pop song we've got this year at Eurovision, this must surely be a contender or thereabouts in May.

Posted by: sugabloke 18th March 2016, 11:14 PM

I'm liking the added drama they've put into that. Suspect I'll be disappointed but this is surely in with a shout (it's jury bait at an absolute minimum).

Posted by: Ryan. 19th March 2016, 04:48 PM

Turns out that wasn't quite the final version as they've re-uploaded it again today and it has the addition of a few "Hey!" shouts during the instrumentals and a couple of other minor differences on top of what already was a good revamp as we saw yesterday - this really is amazing now!

Posted by: 💯 20th March 2016, 07:41 AM

misleading description ryan mad.gif not even copying mariette with the 'hey' shouts. i was hoping for 3 mf hits in one performance but it's only two. disappointing greta, disappointing!

Posted by: johnjo07 20th March 2016, 08:42 AM

This is very good. It's the song that sounds most like a "winner", imo. I'd argue even more so than Sweden. It's much more instant.
