Top 40 Commentary

It's no change in the #1 this week as Calvin Harris & Rag'n'Bone Man hold out for a second week with 'Giant', though the top 10 sees a bit of a reshuffling. At #2 is a climber from last week's mystery BJSC entry, which I can now reveal to be 'Rescue Me' by Headhunterz, Sound Rush & Eurielle. If it does well in the contest, it could even overtake Calvin to become the year's third #1. Also in contention are Gareth Emery & Emma Hewitt whose 'Take Everything' climbs to #3, whilst former #1s from Mark Ronson and Kygo slide down to #4 and #5. The top 10 is on lockdown for now, with nothing entering or leaving.

CamelPhat just miss out on the top 10 again with a third consecutive week at #11 (though they peaked at #5), and a former #11 hit narrowly misses the top 10 again too. Russ (splash) with 'Gun Lean' entered at #11 3 weeks ago before quickly sliding down the chart, but off the back of the remix it bounces back to #12. The original version is still the most preferred here however, so the five additional rappers who feature on the remix will not receive a credit.

The week's highest new entry comes from Nora En Pure whose 'We Found Love' enters at #15 to give her an 11th top 40 hit. It instantly outdoes the previous single 'Polynesia' (#32) and also gives featured vocalist Ashibah a first hit. Sam Smith and Bali Bandits also climb into the top 20 with their songs following their top 40 entries last week.

Above & Beyond's last single 'Long Way From Home' has failed to reach the top 40 so far (it peaked at #46 last week and drops to #48 this week) but they get an 18th top 40 hit with 'Flying By Candlelight' this week, which enters at #23 - their first since last year's 'album bomb' where they had 9 songs enter the top 40 in the same week. It features Marty Longstaff who gets his second hit following his feature on another A&B song - 'Tightrope' (#12).

Elderbrook was half of the huge #5 hit 'Cola' from 2017 but had not scored a top 40 hit since... until now. 'Old Friend' climbs to #29 this week. Omnia re-enters the top 40 at a new peak with 'For You' (#30) whilst his 'Guide You Home' drops to #31. It's a good week for trance as we also have top 40 re-entries for Markus Schulz and Darude; 'We Are The Light' and 'Timeless' climb back in at #34 and #35.

Rap group NSG get their first hit with 'Options' at #38, also the first hit for featured rapper Tion Wayne. Lastly, Kokiri & Dragonette enter at #39 with 'Faith In Love'. It is the second hit for Kokiri following 2015's 'Turn Back Time (Retrospect)' (#37), and the sixth for Dragonette - all as collaborations with dance producers, their most recent being last year's 'Rich Girl' with DJ Licious (#16).

I also like the huge gain for "Old Friend", a really great underrated dance gem and the debuts for "Don't Call Me Up" and "Someone You Loved"!
I'm very happy that "Don't Call Me Up" could be a big hit for Mabel!

it's a great song, though it has strong competition for #1 tonight, can it hold on?
i didn't expect anything from Elderbrook but 'old friend' is great. 'don't call me up' could easily go top 20 for me in the future too, glad it's going to be big for her.
