It's been that way for many years now though, I remember it being the case for Leona and Kelly back in 2013

Fever's not getting pushed in the UK

Yeh true, was The Wombats the last mainstream band to get a new Xmas song playlisted in 2008? Or Coldplay in 2010?

Was thinking with Aled Jones being the new head of music things maybe had a chance for change.

Didn’t NTFT get added to the C list?

You'll have to give me more of a clue as to what NTFT is blink.gif

Overall underwhelming update - no support for new Blossoms, Sam Fender, Phoebe Bridegers or Becky Xmas songs.

Lol you say this every week, knowing full well that R1 don't playlist xmas songs. Accept it and move on!

Surprised Aled Jones isn't playlisting more classical music!

Read the post above, I’ve given the reason why I thought it might have been different this year.

Yeah fair enough, but Aled Jones or no Aled Jones, R1 just aren't that kind of station, they'll leave the new Christmas songs to R2 to playlist.

It’s only really in the last decade that’s happened though hence my questioning of why that’s the case. The classics were all playlisted and that’s why they became classics and chart hits at the time of release.

I mean ‘Santa Tell Me’ or One More Sleep’ would seemlessly have fitted onto the playlist when released. I can understand them ignoring seasonal songs by artists they normally ignore and leave to radio 2 for example but it’s strange they ignore them by artists they hammer the rest of the year.

Good to see the Foos hanging on. To be fair, Shame Shame sounds perfect for Radio 1 and I don't think about their age at all when listening to it. Still a lot of inconsistency though, they ignored Muse on their last album aside from Thought Contagion (not that the singles after that were very good). But I'm sure they have focus grouped it to death etc and concluded that enough 'young people' are still interested in FF.

Additionally, this is interesting - apparently this 15-29 thing has been quietly dropped since OFCOM took over and now there are just fleeting "young audience" references to shows like Life Hacks etc in the R1 licence. No more feeling like Steve Buscemi with the skateboard in that meme at the grand old age of 37 just for commiting the heinous crime of loving new music! It will always need to sound youthful and highly energetic but is nice to know I'm welcome. As Greg said on-air the other week after someone texted in saying their girlfriend had said it was probably time for them to move to Radio 2 now, "if you like new things and fun things, this is the place for you"!

I have been listening to lots of Jack Saunders recently as I can't listen to much Annie Mac cos parenting. Also, there is a really fun Discord group for the listeners that Jack pops into during the show. Listening to more late-night R1 than daytime at the moment!

Small world! Really enjoying it! I do the streaming services like it's going out of fashion but it's really enhanced my radio experience. The sense of community and belonging is exceptionally welcome right now. I got my request on last night, if Lithium being swapped for In Bloom counts! Jack seems like a top lad.

I'd never heard of Discord either until a few weeks ago when I got an invite cos I was a fan of Phil Taggart on FB. It's basically just a cross between a fanpage and a chat room, with several sub-chat rooms, and no cynical jaded knobheads that criticise absolutely everything so infinitely better than Facebook.

Also, whilst we're here, I'm really struggling to decide whether that Shane Codd track is decent or a Joel Corry/Nathan Dawe z-side, please help. I'm all for dance music in the charts but sometimes it can get a bit ASDA Smart Price.

Nathan Dawe's discography is already composed entirely of Z-Sides xx

(I like 'Get Out My Head' more than anything I have heard from Nathan although it's still pretty disposable).

Joel Corry was already a poor man's MK/Calvin Harris. Imagine being the bargain bin Joel Corry.
