Welcome to the World Cup of Sportspeople! With the Women's Football World Cup This is the Voting stage for Asia. We received 96 different nominations in all - taking away our auto-qualifiers, Shane Warne and Margaret Court, this gives us two groups of 47 players*. Here's how this stage is going to work. - You can vote for up to 25 sportspeople, but you must vote for at least 10. - You must rank your votes in order of preference, either by numbering or by the standard Buzzjack +25, +24 ... +1 (Or down to however many you vote for) - You must vote for sportspeople from at least three different sports - You must vote for at least one male and one female sportsperson. - Each sportsperson has been given a short description of their major achievements to make it easier for you to make up your mind. - Due to the clerical error regarding the auto-qualifier, only the six sportspeople with the most votes in each group will advance to the Final. The seventh-placed person with the most points across the groups will also advance, whilst the rest of the Top 10 will advance to the Intercontinental Playoffs. Everyone else will be booted out. *Group 1 is slightly smaller as a result of some nominated sportspeople being ineligible: Ahn Hyun-Soo (aka Victor An) is ineligible as he most recently skated for Russia Group 1 Majed Abdullah (Saudi Arabia - Football - Won Asian Footballer of the Year 3 times, Saudi top scorer 6 times) Skahib Al Hasan (Bangladesh - Cricket - Ranked first as an all rounder for 10 years, highest individual score by a Bangladeshi in tests) Richie Benaud (Australia - Australia's Test Captain 1958-64, first player to reach 200 wickets and 2000 runs) Jack Brabham (Australia - Formula One - Won three Championships and 14 Grand Prix races) David Campese (Australia - Rugby - Won 1991 Rugby World Cup with Australia, set a world record of 64 Test tries) Tony David (Australia - Darts - Won 2002 Embassy World Championship) Aravinda De Silva (Sri Lanka - Cricket - Won 1996 Cricket World Cup with Sri Lanka) Kapil Dev (India - Cricket - Led India to win the 1983 Cricket World Cup, held record for the greatest number of wickets taken in Test Cricket) Evonne Goolagong Crawley (Australia - Tennis - Won 14 Grand Slam titles) Grant Hackett (Australia - Swimming - Won three Olympic golds, 10 World Championship golds) Lleyton Hewitt (Australia - Tennis 3 - Won two Grand Slam titles, 30 career titles) Merv Hughes (Australia - Cricket - Represented Australia in 53 Test Matches, taking 212 wickets) Xing Huina (China - Athletics - Won gold in the 2004 Olympics) Mahela Jayawardene (Sri Lanka - Named in 2006 as the best international captain of the year, made highest ever score by a Sri Lankan in Test Cricket) Park Ji Sung (South Korea - Football - Won 19 trophies in his career, including the Champions League) Alan Jones (Australia - Formula One - Won one Championship, won 12 Grand Prix races) Shane Kelly (Australia - Cycling - Won three World Championship Golds) Sam Kerr (Australia - Football - All-time Top Scorer in the National Womens' Soccer League) Rashid Khan (Afghanistan - Cricket - Captain of the Afghan National Team, youngest player to take 100 wickets) Sushil Kumar (India - Wrestling - Won 2010 World Title, won Silver at the 2012 Olympics) Anil Kumble (India - Cricket - Third-highest wicket taker of all time) Rod Laver (Australia - Tennis - Won 11 Grand Slam singles titles, 200 Career titles) Dennis Lillee (Australia - Became record holder for most Test wickets) Anna Meares (Australia - Cycling - Two Olympic golds, 11 World Championship golds) Wang Meng (China - Speed Skating - 4 Olympic golds, 18 World Championship golds) Muttiah Murtalitharan (Sri Lanka - Cricket - Highest wicket-taker in Test cricket, held the number 1 player ranking for a record 1,711 days) Hidetoshi Nakata (Japan - Football - 1997 Asian Player of the Year, played for Japan in three World Cup tournaments) Takeichi Nishi (Japan - Show Jumping - 1932 Olympic gold) Greg Norman (Australia - Golf - Won Open Championship twice, 88 professional wins) Naomi Osaka (Japan - Tennis - Won two Grand Slam titles, first Asia to hold top ranking in singles) Manny Pacquiao (Phillipines - Boxing - Won 61 of 70 fights, eight-division world champion) Nova Peris (Australia - Athletics/Hockey - Won 3 Olympic Golds and the 1994 Hockey World Cup) Daniel Ricciardo (Australia - Formula One - Won 7 Grand Slam races) Neil Robertson (Australia - Snooker - Won 2010 World Championship, was World Number 1 in 2010, 2013, 2014 and 2015) Takuma Sato (Japan - Motor Racing - 4 IndyCar wins) Rahmat Shah (Afghanistan - Cricket - Played in Afghanistan's first Test Match) Samantha Stosur (Australia - Tennis - Won three Grand Slams in doubles, 26 career wins) PT Usha (India - Athletics - 4 Asian Games golds, 14 Asian Championship golds) Chaminda Vaas (Sri Lanka - Cricket - Holds record for best bowling figure in ODI history) Mark Viduka (Australia - Football - Captained Australia National Team, most goals by an Australian in the Champions League) James Wattana (Thailand - Snooker - Won three Ranking Tournaments, highest World Ranking was 3) Mark Waugh (Australia - Cricket - First batsman to score three centuries in the Cricket World Cup, 1999 leading Australian runscorer) Simon Whitloc (Australia - Darts - Won 2012 European Championship) Liu Xiang(China - Athletics - 2004 Olympic Gold, three Asian Games golds) Yang Yang (A) (China - Speed Skating - Two Olympic golds, 28 World Championship golds) Sun Yang (China - Swimming - 3 Olympic golds, 9 World Championship golds) Waqar Younis (Pakistan - Cricket - Youngest bowler to take 400 wickets) The deadline is 23:59 Monday 23rd July. I didn't notice that. I'm sure everybody is used to the one week voting period by now so it wouldn't have mattered. That's a good top six but Mark Waugh is lucky that most of the best Aussie and Asian cricketers are in the second group which is still to come.
