It's still will be the return of the Mack 4eva Joined: 1 February 2011 Posts: 53,593 User: 12,915	A couple of days late with the thread for this: Italian national champion Elia Viviani was stripped of his stage three win at the Giro d'Italia for swerving in front of another rider in the final metres. Race organisers demoted the 30-year-old after reviewing footage, with Colombian Fernando Gaviria declared the stage victor and France's Arnaud Demare moving up to second from third.

He was a lead-out rider Fernando Gaviria on stage 3, with the Colombian winning the sprint after Elia Viviani (Deceuninck-QuickStep) was relegated for changing his line in the final metres

The Ecucadorian rider made it into an eight-rider split that rode away after a big crash that took out a number of overall favourites 5km from the line.

The Dutch rider, 28, injured his knee in a heavy fall on Tuesday's fourth stage and was four minutes 30 seconds behind the leaders. Dumoulin had been cleared to race by his medical team and the 2017 champion said: "I want to at least try." Team Sunweb later tweeted: "Dumoulin's injuries have proved too painful."

On a day of driving rain throughout, Bora-Hansgrohe's Ackermann negotiated surface water in Terracina before timing his sprint to perfection to beat Fernando Gaviria by half a wheel. Primoz Roglic retains the overall lead, 35 seconds ahead of Briton Simon Yates.

Thursday's events produced an entirely new top-10 with riders from the 13-man breakaway taking over and overnight leader Primoz Roglic dropping to 11th. The Slovenian is five minutes and 24 seconds adrift, with Briton Simon Yates 13th, still 35 seconds behind Roglic. Masnada edged out Conti to secure his first Grand Tour stage win. Roglic was part of a peloton which crossed the line more than seven minutes behind with his shorts ripped from an early crash.

Astana's Bilbao attacked from a small group of breakaway riders 1.5km from the finish on the punchy final climb. He held off France's Tony Gallopin and Italian Davide Formolo. Conti, who took the lead on an eventful stage six, is one minute 32 seconds clear of new second-placed rider Jose Joaquin Rojas, while Britain's Simon Yates slipped two places to 15th. Yates remains five minutes 59 seconds off the pace

Demare held off Italian national champion Elia Viviani and German Rudiger Selig in a reduced sprint after a crash brought down several riders. Italian Valerio Conti maintained his one minute 50 seconds lead over Slovenia's Primoz Roglic in the general classification. Britain's Simon Yates is 5mins 36secs back in 24th with Hugh Carthy 16th.

The Lotto-Soudal rider won stage 11 in a sprint finish ahead of Arnaud Demare and Pascal Ackermann to add to his victory on stage eight. But the sprinter has now withdrawn with 10 days remaining to prepare for the Tour de France, which begins on 6 July.
