On the 27th March 2000, the song Oops! I Did It Again was released to radios worldwide, so today is the 15th year anniversary.

The song peaked at #1 in UK, Italy, Spain, Austria, Denmark, Sweden, Portugal, Switzerland, Canada, Belgium, Australia, Netherlands, Norway and New Zealand; #2 in France, Germany and Ireland, #4 in France. It spent 6 weeks at #1 on the European Hot 100, and also reached #1 in the World Wide chart.
Peaking at #9 on the US Hot 100, curiously it was in her home country where the song had its lowest peak. However it was never released as a commercial CD single over there, so the song reached the top 10 on airplay alone basically - it topped the Top40/Pop chart (for 6 weeks).

The video also marked the first glimpse of sexy Britney, a shadowing of what was to come... since she's "not so innocent"! The red catsuit really highlighted what an amazing figure she had.

Now share your opinions on this iconic song, the video, the live performances (who can forget that amazing VMA performance?), etc.

15 years, good god!

I was briefly obsessed with it when it was released and for some reason bought the single, but I went off it and it's fairly mediocre in terms of her singles discography for me now.

Still, I have enjoyed it a couple of times when (extremely) drunk in G-A-Y. tongue.gif

To this day I still don't get how this *only* charted at number 9 in America. It was a brand new single, EXTREMELY popular, that followed the MASSIVE era that was BOMT and Britney's career was at a peak commercially-wise.

I have a lot of fond memories of this single and its parent album, which my sister got for my 11th birthday that year - my pre-teen love of Britney was nearing its peak (I had a poster of her on my bedroom door at that time) so I'll always have a love for her 'Oops!' era of stuff. It's catchy, feisty Max Martin helmed pop from the turn of the millennium at its best.

I've just explained it to you, it wasnt released there to buy (just on 7''). Otherwise it would've been #1 most likely. At the time this was a common practice, especially with Jive, so that the album would sell more copies, which I guess for artists like Britney it worked.

I absolutely loved this when it came out. I remember hearing it for the first time in a friends room in uni and had a little jiggle around the room. 15 years ... Crap... This has also just made me feel old.

In terms of her singles catalogue, it's not one of my favourites (still a SOLID 8 out of 10) but the cultural impact this song had and the iconic video was exactly what she needed at the time to give herself another 'Baby...' sized hit! It was SO perfectly executed. A great pop song, just overshadowed by a lot/majority of her back catalogue in general tbh.

Yeah I agree perfect for the time and what it was, but not one of her outright best singles!

The fact it got to #9 without sales as a teen pop single in 2000 makes it even MORE iconic.

They played there cards right, no other female artist has been able to surpass her record on first week sales. No 99 cent album, or a free purchase with the buying of a pizza. No shade. Just saying. She sold purely off her music and major promotional efforts.

I don't think anyone will be able to touch it if Taylor couldn't do it with her last album. A testament to BRITNEY forever being America's princess of pop.
