Looks like All Saints are going to beat them to a glasto performance.
Not sure if they have played before. |

Well... we are half way through the year, so may as well update the original predictions right?
SPICE GIRLS After what seemed like a promising start with release of the very prestigious stamps, the British Music Experience exhibition and the expectation of a documentary including all 5 of them, it seems like we are back to quase 0 after Mel B and Geri have seemingly fallen through AGAIN. We had a sliver of hope when all 5 turned up to Victoria's birthday celebrations and surprised us all with a now infamous picture - the first since 2018 - and a couple of low-quality phone videos being posted on instagram of them singing bits of Stop and Mama. Then, a news report about them potentially having booked a Stadium in Australia was posted online, and few Aussie news agencies and newspapers took it up. But then Mel B went on stage in Manchester during a talk and pretty much admitted that she and Geri are not in good terms right now. She seemed to confirm that there were no plans either. In her Rosie Frost campaign Gerita has also pretty much dismissed any Spice-related project as she is focused on her childish books, leaving us all in cold water AGAIN. And sadly, David Beckham just last week poored cold water in any rumours and it looks like it is all back to 0 again. The expectation as far as we know now, is that not even the documentary is going to be released since no-one has heard anything about it since last year... MELANIE C Plenty of one-off gigs here and there and a DJ tour in Australia. Is still recording and some fans mentioned she said to them that album probably next year instead of this year Performed again at Glastonbury, this time as a guest of Orbital EMMA BUNTON We had heard NOTHING about Emma's music or any projects outside of Kit & Kin but then Spring came and BOOM! A surprise vinyl release for A Girl Like Me which sold out its initial run. AND apparently she has been recording with an orchestra in Budapest, Hungary, with an accompagnying video seemingly being shot by the same director who did Too Much video. Whilst we've had no word from Emma or official sources, a couple of pictures have surfaced with her and orchestra members, as well as a picture with her and the video director. Emma is wearing a red dress and Fans speculate that she might be preparing to release a Christmas album later this year. After her previous Christmas-related initiativies flopped, I wonder how this wil go? A full orchestra is attached to this, so might be a bit of budget thrown her way. We might indeed have a new Bunton era approaching, at least. For me, in the absense of any interest in music or touring from the group, this is the best news so far (even though I am only slightly interested, more amused than anything, at her doing a Christmas era.... jesus f***ing christ....) MEL B Apart from a re-release of her book Brutally Honest, it seems like Mel is in a bit of a career stagnation. Her show Masked Singer Australia has been cancelled, and as far as we know she only has GoggleBox booked in coming up. GERITA She's gearing up to a new Rosie Fro---Honestly who f***ing cares? She's doing crap children's books, she's gone all Tory-Fascist party support and landed gentry brown nosing, and because of this we're not getting a Spice reunion this year or probably anytime soon.... That's all folks This post has been edited by Mr.X: 30th June 2024, 11:10 AM |

Melanie C can add Glastonbury 2024 to that updated list, wasn't expecting her to get another feature there this year.

Let's be honest she could do every year as a guest for an artist as long as she performs a Spice Girls track. She probably could, I reckon she would also be able to do When you're gone as a guest. I'm not sure any of the other girls would be invited to do it though, again it's because of the leg work she has put in that none of the others have, credit to her. |

Glastonbury is filled with artists now who a Melanie C doing a Spice Girls song with them would fit nicely and give them both more exposure. The gays would love a Sugababes x Melanie C duet doing say Viva Forever. |

Good for her, but it is Spices or nothing for me in terms of interest! And she is right, having the Spice Girls headlining would be the ideal.
I could see her getting a slot for the next album promotion tour though, for sure. She did well last time doing her own slot so it could make sense This post has been edited by Mr.X: 1st July 2024, 10:15 PM |

They have to do the legends slot but instead of having weeks to prepare make sure they have a few months making everyone (Geri) confident !!!!

I think they could (and should) pull off the main slot, personally. I understand that people easily see them at the legends slot, but they are a stadium touring force, and a girlband headlining the main headline slots would be just incredible and unique. And they are the group to do it!

I just don’t see Glastonbury headliner for them. I think their years of inactivity kind of goes against them for consideration of top billing? That’s before we get into the demographics of the Glastonbury crowds and their tastes / expectations for headliners.
Headliners have either been modern/currently huge acts (Dua Lipa, SZA, Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar, Stormzy, Ed Sheeran) or established artists with a very deep back catalogue and who are more consistently present over the years (Coldplay, Elton John, Guns N’ Roses, Arctic Monkeys, Paul McCartney, The Killers, The Cure, Radiohead, Foo Fighters - and yes it doesn’t escape my attention that all of these artists are male!). I’m convinced that Legends would come across as being more of a comfortable fit for Spice Girls, and something that would be met with positivity from the public/critics. It would definitely be a seal of approval for a legendary girl group, without throwing them in at the deep end as being a headliner (which may not be framed with the same positive reaction). Legends slot is arguably less pressure than headlining, but still a very respected slot which usually gets a great amount of attention, sometimes on par with or even exceeding the reaction to the headliners. I mean at this point it’s a struggle to see them getting their act together for any slot It feels like it ought to have already happened. If Glastonbury really is something that has been offered to them in recent years, then what are they waiting for? I fear that Victoria and Geri are not only against lengthy reunions but even stuff like this. |

Glastonbury works differently. They are absolutely at the level where they could do a headline slot, and they would absolutely be triumphant on it. There is an expectation for that, specially if they do it at the end of a tour or something like that. The legends slot is iconic, but they are above acts that have been playing it over the past few years in terms of the expectation around it!
When it comes to Geri and Victoria, well... it is a given that Victoria wont do it. Geri might... They just need to play their cards right on that one... I think it is also time for both Mels to stop saying that they want Victoria to do it as well. It's not fair on anyone and they have more than proven that they can be a stadium tour de force without her. That's enough. |

The legends slot is iconic, but they are above acts that have been playing it over the past few years in terms of the expectation around it! I really don’t think they’re at that level, and that’s a result of their own choices tbh (to firmly be a part-time legacy act, only reuniting briefly every few years & without new music). If they currently had like 9 albums and had released 6 of them over the last couple of decades, toured every album, and be considered as a mostly active group like Coldplay etc are - then sure, headlining at this point could have seemed natural, and even long overdue. But none of the headliners I mentioned had their last album be from 24 years ago. None of them have only toured twice this century, barely amounting to 4 months of being on tour. I mean, even the legends slot tends to be artists who are still actively releasing, even if it’s mostly their old classics that are in demand. Spice Girls are in an extremely privileged and almost unique position to continually be able to rest on the laurels of material that is now 24-28 years old… but I don’t think that stretches to viably headlining Glastonbury. We’ll have to agree to disagree! |

Oh they could headline no problem and it would be a massive success. What non current acts that headline Glastonbury need is 5 or 6 instantly recognisable sing-a-long songs that a drunken British crowd of 20 to 50 something year olds would know.
Jay is right that it normally takes a couple of decades of releasing music to build up those 5 or 6 songs but Wannabe, 2 become 1, WDYTYA, Spice up your life, Stop and Mama are those songs. Each would have the crowd in full voice in a massive sing-a-long. Throw in some great visuals and costumes and the lure of seeing Posh Spice up actually on stage and it would be one of the biggest headliners ever. |
