    Andrew's Review
Now That's What I Call Music! 35 aka Now 35 was the final volume in the series to be released on vinyl. It brought together many of the songs in the charts during the second half of 1996. Now 35 was the first time in the series we heard from Sheryl Crow, Backstreet Boys, Damage, Ant & Dec (although they previously appeared on Now 31 as PJ & Duncan), 911, Faithless and B.B.E.

Offering 5 UK #1 singles, but it could have been 8 if they had included The Fugees – Ready Or Not, The Chemical Brothers – Setting Sun and Robson & Jerome – What Becomes Of The Broken Hearted. It's also worth noting that whilst a song from Backstreet Boys features, it wasn't the boys debut single, and as such, the higher charting Summer anthem We've Got It Goin' On was overlooked. Another noteworthy omission was the #2 love ballad of 1996 from Toni Braxton – Un-Break My Heart. This song even finished in the Top 10 singles of 1996! A final mention on the omissions goes to Celine Dion who had a plethora of high charting hits in the 90's but only ever made one single appearance in the entire series which was on Now 29.

Now 35 was the only time in the series we heard from Deep Blue Something, Babybird, Garbage, Stretch 'N' Vern, Healy & Amos and Shed Seven.

Artwork Rating: 6/10 Good
I do like this cover, it's simplistic in design, but it's use of colour and sparkling effects is what makes it shine for me. Reminds me of disco lights somehow, and it seems like a fitting end of year design.

Disc 1 Favourite: Spice Girls – Say You'll Be There
Possibly one of my favourite Spice Girls songs, there's just no denying Melanie C's soaring vocals on this track. I was only 10 years old when this song was released but I think this was at the time I was really starting to get into music and I loved the sound of Spice Girls and their energy.

Disc 2 Favourite: Faithless – Insomnia
This deep and dark anthem was once my ringtone, so whenever I hear it now I think someone is calling me! I still love it though, and it was even remixed by Avicii in 2015. Faithless went on to have many hits in the UK during the late 90's and noughties.

Overall Rating: 6/10 Good
1996 was a good year for British music, and many of the years highlights are contained within the 3 volumes released that year, but this volume has a few chart flopping songs which don't really add to the quality of the compilation. I would have rated higher if a few alternative songs were used.

Andrew's Best 5 (as of April 2017)
1. Spice Girls – Say You'll Be There
2. Crowded House – Don't Dream It's Over
3. Faithless – Insomnia
4. Babybird – You're Gorgeous
5. Deep Blue Something – Breakfast At Tiffanys

Andrew's Worst 5 (as of April 2017)
1. Space – Neighbourhood
2. Pulp – Something Changed
3. Belinda Carlisle – Always Breaking My Heart
4. Shed Seven – Chasing Rainbows
5. Strike – My Love Is For Real

Ooh this is the first Now CD that I ever owned! Well, it belonged to my parents (I wasn't born yet for another 10 months laugh.gif) but they gave it to me when I started becoming obsessed with the series and it's the earliest one I have on CD. Anyway, my disc 1 highlight is Spice Girls - 'Say You'll Be There'! I find it very underrated in terms of their discography, it is actually as high as my second favourite Spice Girls song after 'Viva Forever'! A cool and smooth sound for them with a very fun accompanying video. My Disc 2 favourite is then the obvious choice of Faithless - 'Insomnia'. I can recite every iconic word, naturally, and that breakdown is just on another level. wub.gif

The final NOW album to be released on vinyl.

Indeed! I really want to get it on vinyl one day. I have 1-10 on vinyl and also 16, so quite a lot of gaps to fill. If only it was a less expensive hobby laugh.gif

Well what a huge step down this edition is in terms of quality mellow.gif

Another Spice Girls opener but this a lot weaker than Wannabe for me, then coincidentally Fastlove which appears on the recently released & current Now 96! Barely anything I return to on this side, not including the brilliant Breakfast At Tiffany's, easily the best song on Disc 1. Couple of other faves from Babybird & Crowded House (an ultimate drunk karaoke anthem that) but yeah, nothing else at all to see here.

Disc 2 probably just about edges it with some decent dance tunes in the second half, but still a large part weaker than previous editions. Insomnia is quite the anthem & certainly the best song on the edition (although during the rate I did actually give my 11 to Crowded House). Some good trance from BBE & another strong Livin' Joy track but again, the rest is passable for me.

Whilst not quite as impressive visually as previous editions the artwork still stands out in a "look at me, bright & shiny" kind of way on one's shelf. I'll go for another 7 again.

Overall? Well I'll be a little more harsh here, obviously (as every edition) there are highlights but the large majority doesn't ring too many fond bells for me when I listened this through in November 2015 for the rate, a 5/10 for me this time.

The results from aforementioned Rate you say (in a user-friendly format)? Here ya go:

1. Spice Girls - Say You'll Be There
2. Faithless - Insomnia
3. Crowded House - Don't Dream It's Over
4. Suede - Beautiful Ones

11. Garbage - Milk
12. Sheryl Crow - If It Makes You Happy
13. BBE - Seven Days And One Week
14. East 17 - If You Ever
15. Bjφrk - Possibly Maybe
16. Underworld - Pearl's Girl
17. Space - Neighbourhood
18. Livin' Joy - Follow The Rules
19. Ocean Colour Scene - The Riverboat Song
20. Pulp - Something Changed
