Edited the original post due to Covid and restrictions being lifted.
Some really exciting films coming out, the ones that grab me most are 'Old' which looks to be VERY promising and a unique concept! Also looking forward to sequels for The Purge, Escape Room, Halloween, Scream & Don't Breathe. |

I keep forgetting Purge is out as soon as it is! Think I may have to watch the first 3 again (not bothered about the dire 'The First Purge' - but maybe I should watch again to see whether it's as bad as I remember it being).
Also, I am really intrigued by 'Old'. I hope it's as good as the concept seems to suggest it is. |

I liked The First Purge! I don't find any of them outstanding though I must say and it's such a shame as I love The Purge as an idea/concept. I'd say the 2nd one or Election Year is maybe the best.

I might watch it again this weekend, one of my fave Horror films of recent times!
In other news, Don't Breathe 2 looks like trash and....making a whole rapist a hero? Weird. |

Don't know if there's enough interest for it's own thread, but there's a new trilogy of horror films on Netflix called Fear Street, based on novels by RL Steine, each is set in a different time period (1994, 1978 and 1666) and representative of a different style of horror. The first one, 1994, is out now and the other two following in the next two weeks.
I've seen the first one and it's pretty good! Not exactly the most original but it's a great callback to similar 90s films with more than a dash of Stranger Things in there and the overarching mystery, tone and characters were done really well. I wanted to see it have a bit more intensity with it's horror, but the ending made things much more interesting. I'm really interested to see how it develops. |

Bloody *loved* the first Fear Street! I grew up reading the books and Stine was a huge part of my childhood (obsessed with Goosebumps) so I was super hyped for it. The 90's nostalgia put a huge smile on my face throughout it and the inspired twist at the end was brilliant!

I really enjoyed the first half hour or so but I find the characters to be thoroughly unlikeable and it got silly with ghosts, demons and things like that. I would have preferred a straight up slasher I guess I didn't read the books though lol, maybe I would've appreciated it more that way.

WORLD EXCLUSIVE!!!
'Don't Breathe 2' really is as trash as it seemed to suggest! Downright horrendous. |

'The Night House' however is pretty good! I think I need another watch of it to truly grasp what was going off, but if the studio A24 ('Hereditary', 'Midsommar', 'A Ghost Story' etc..) made their own version of 'The Invisible Man', I imagine the result wouldn't be too dissimilar!
Rebecca Hall gives a great performance. |

The Night House is indeed pretty great, really atmospheric and very reminiscent of Hereditary, Midsommar etc. as a study on how grief and trauma can really be the scariest thing. It certainly left a lot of ambiguity, but I think that was the point.
Censor is another film that I would recommend if you're looking for a good psychological horror/thriller (Got 5 stars from Mark Kermode). It's set at the time of the 80s video nasties and focuses on someone that works at the BBFC that cuts these films for a living with hidden griefs of her own, it gives it a great backdrop and atmosphere. |

Yes I really loved both, The Night House especially is probably my favourite film so far this year. So gripping and tense and Rebecca Hall delivered such an amazing and realistic performance.
Censor was good but at times it did dip into A Level film studies got me oop but I loved the concept and again, the lead actress delivered an amazing performance! I'll update this list soon also, so excited for Candyman this weekend! |

Malignant is out tomorrow and I'm so hyped Barely any reviews out there and no Rotten Tomatoes score I know James Wan has said he didn't want the shock ending spoiled, so maybe not a lot of people have been sent a screener?

Yeah I'm hyped but I'm also ready to be disappointed
Also did anyone else think Candyman was so so disappointing? So forgettable! |
