I think the tories have a chance of increasing their seats and doing damage to labour in May with Ruth being so popular at the moment.

The thing you have to understand in Scotland is that it seems the independence referendum, even though it was lost to the No camp, has changed Scottish politics. The SNP can get away with swapping policies between left and right because they have already convinced the voters that they and they alone will stand up for Scotland in a Westminster government the scottish people dont trust or want to have too much power to pass laws for them, albeit they do not want full independence due to the percieved insecuurities the right has convinced them there would be.

It means the SNP have a free open field to play in - its a bit like populist nationalist parties in Ireland since the 1920s.

Which just goes to show how shallow an ideology nationalism is. If you're spending your whole time arguing the problem for everything is that 'a different government' is in control...well, what does it say when you don't use any of the levers at your disposal?

Yeh absolutely. In Ireland now Fine Gael have a few more seats than Fianna Fįil but both refuse to go into coalition due to what happened 80 years ago or so they say when in reality if they went into government together it would bolster SF as the legitimate opposition so it's better for them to pretend to have differing views on each other - when they are political cameleons!!

Maybe Ireland is a poor example though because the state was founded by nationalism gone mad - but in nationalisms defence as I regard myself as a Irish nationalist it usually thrives due to mismanagement by the ruling government in both this case and Scotland's - a seemingly distant and self serving Westminster government.

Petitioning for the thread title to be changed to something slightly less conceited, in line with all of the other party topics.

Disgraceful by PC and Leanne Wood stopping a labour First Minister with the help of the tories and UKIP - opportunism at its worst!!

I'm not sure how many times I can say 'it's almost as if nationalism isn't actually motivated by socialism!'.

You'd like to think their electorate will look unfavourably at this!

And the SNP's refusal to go into coalition with the Greens to form a majority (as the latter had offered) also gives a lot more clout to largest opposition party which is the Tories, as far as I understand it.
