Avengers: Endgame was incredible, though not as amazing as Avengers Assemble or Infinity War. Agree with your honorable mentions too, except for Battle Angel which I haven't seen.
I like Big Bang Theory too, as well as Rick And Morty. I also started The Good Place this summer, and it's 1st season was really good with a great execution of a Black Mirror like concept involving a world in which the 'good' deceased people reside. Haven't seen much of the 2nd season though. The creator Michael Schur, was also one of the co-creators of sublime sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine. As for the albums, I haven't listened to any of them, but I might check out the Jax and Avicii albums someday. |

Thermo's hot hits | EOY 2019 | THE FORMAT Here is how it will work this year. Similarly to last year, the top 250 best 'selling' songs of the year (as determined by my points system) will be counted down, though more attention to detail will be paid for the top 100. The tracking year for 2019 takes into account points accumulated from chart #432 to the most recent #483. The points are baed on two factors; playcount taken from 30/11/2018 to 28/11/2019 inclusive, as well as weekly chart positions. Any plays from today onwards will count towards next year's chart. The chart points will be expressed as 'sales' totals for the tracking year. To keep it fair, any song that charted during the tracking year is eligible, including tracks that did not peak during the tracking year, which means there will be quite a few 'leftovers' from the previous year (which is why it is a top 250, to make way for plenty of newer songs). ISÁK) Date entered: 21/12/2018 Chart sales: 236,400 Chart run: 67-74-47-88-x-77-71-84-78-89-x [9 weeks] We start with one of seven appearances from Alan Walker, who is the act with the fifth most appearances. 'Lonely' was originally an album track on 'Different World' featuring ISÁK and Omar Noir, reaching #47. It then got a reworking with the latter artist taken out and it makes the song a fair bit better. The two versions combined give this the #250 spot, beating Audien & Arty 'Never Letting Go' by just 200 sales. #249. Ina Wroldsen and Dynoro ~ Obsessed Date entered: 29/03/2019 Chart sales: 237,000 Chart run: 88-99-x-73-84-79-83-x [6 weeks] After 'In My Mind' being a huge hit across the world and in my chart I was eager for what he would do next and in the end it was to be a collab with Ina Wroldsen. I was a bit disappointed with it, it is far from the quality of his hit, but Ina's great songwriting does help it rise above the many other average tracks in this genre. With just a #73 peak it is the lowest peaking track in this chart. #248. Somna and Haliene ~ Secret Date entered: 22/03/2019 Chart sales: 237,400 Chart run: 79-51-42-40-35-44-49-64-x [8 weeks] Haliene is rather lucky to have 4 appearances in this chart as two of them are in this section. This one was a collab with the relatively unknown trance producer Somna, I certainly hadn't heard of him before this track. It's a good enough track of its genre however and Haliene's beautiful voice certainly helps it. #247. Luke Bond ~ Right Now (feat. Sara Skinner) Date entered: 24/05/2019 Chart sales: 237,600 Chart run: 38-49-64-79-89-x [5 weeks] Four songs in and we already reach the first BJSC entry, this going top 3 in the contest I hosted. Although I had actually discovered it beforehand it did grow on me a fair bit post-contest, managing to briefly reach the top 40. It's another great vocal trance track, and there will be a fair few of these in the chart this year. #246. Markus Schulz and Haliene ~ Ave Maria Date entered: 23/08/2019 Chart sales: 237,700 Chart run: 27-19-20-32-46-71-87-85-86-80-x [10 weeks] Haliene is back again this time with Markus Schulz. This track was actually recorded as a tribute to his mum who recently passed away and it really is a beautiful track, turning the song 'Ave Maria' into an emotional trance ballad is not something that should work but it really does. Alesso and Sumr Camp ~ In The Middle Date entered: 13/09/2019 Chart sales: 238,200 Chart run: 55-73-85-75-97-85-59-81-x-98-87-84-… [11 weeks] Alesso has still got it somewhat, having not had a big hit in my chart for a while but his latest release is rather good, particularly the bouncy bass in it. Although it could be down to whoever Sumr Camp is. #244. Avicii ~ Wake Me Up (feat. Aloe Blacc) [#01, 2013 // #111, 2018] Date entered: 17/06/13 Chart sales: 239,400 [3,252,200 total] Chart run: 1-4-1-1-1-1-1-1-2-2-2-4-2-1-3-4-10-7-16-15-21-28-34-22-18-18-43-45-6-17-24-42-43-49-45-38-26-46-x-3-17-19-21-28-43-45-58-61-64-79-92-x-33-52-x-84-x [3 weeks (53 total)] QUOTE(2018) Currently the 3rd highest 'selling' song in my chart history, and what I consider to be my 2nd favourite song ever, this shot back up to #3 following his death and also back in the UK top 40 which was nice to see. Sadly it's a near miss for the EOY top 100 but it's already cemented its place in Thermo's hot hits history; as you may've guessed, it was my #1 in the 2013 EOY chart. It's a fairly sad listen in today's context with its lyrics, though I still really love the song. Still very much deserving of an placement here is 'Wake Me Up', a track that will no doubt become a timeless classic so it's still racking up the plays, having re-entered the top 40 from an EOY boost. It could be even higher next year from the EOD effect. #243. CLiQ ~ Clap Clap [#38, 2018] Date entered: 17/06/13 Chart sales: 239,400 [967,000 total] Chart run: 17-5-6-6-5-9-10-14-22-24-30-30-30-38-40-46-50-61-59-53-89-84-x-73-74-94-93-x-95-x [7 weeks (27 total)] QUOTE(2018) CLiQ were one of the biggest breakthroughs on my chart this year, coming from nowhere to get two of the biggest hits of the year. We'll come to their first smash a lot later as it's a big contender this year, but they proved themselves with the follow-up which racked up over half the sales that 'Wavey' managed. It's a great bouncy house esque dance bop with a catchy rap (from someone who sounds like Alika but presumably isn't, given they're uncredited), which of course couldn't give them a second UK hit but was an instant smash here. CLiQ will be making two more appearances but they never managed to come close to matching this and especially not 'Wavey'. #242. Ferdinand Dreyssig and Marvin Hey ~ Coeur De La Nuit (Worakls Remix) Date entered: 15/02/2019 Chart sales: 239,600 Chart run: 15-16-25-53-70-91-x [6 weeks] A BJSC discovery here, with the song itself having dated from 2015. It is from two producers I've never heard of nor do I expect will ever make my chart again, although it is the remix from Worakls who previously charted with Club Bizarre winner 'Elea'. Likewise this is a lovely minimalist deep house piece, and even at 9 minutes long it racked up enough plays to make the list. The sample from Les Choristes is put to really good use here especially towards the end when it gets chopped. #241. Wham! ~ Last Christmas [#225, 2017] Date entered: 26/12/2011 Chart sales: 240,600 [1,084,000 total] Chart run: 29-x-26-38-x-11-15-x-22-x-46-34-22-x-17-21-3-2-x-54-5-4-4-x-6-6-4-2-x [4 weeks (21 total)] It's now December so about time I announced the first Christmas track in the rundown. This is back in a year where Christmas tracks did better than ever in my chart. It'll most likely re-enter my top 10 again in 2019 as this really is a song that doesn't get old. Kokiri and Dragonette ~ Faith In Love Date entered: 18/01/2019 Chart sales: 242,400 Chart run: 47-39-46-55-69-76-94-98-x [8 weeks] Dragonette had a great 2018 with two tracks in the EOY top 100. This year they have just 'Faith In Love', a collab with house DJ Kokiri, who you may recognise from his BJSC hit, but not with this track. It's what you'd expect from these two really but that makes for a good track anyhow. #239. EJ ~ Follow Me Date entered: 01/03/2019 Chart sales: 243,000 Chart run: 61-58-65-48-23-26-34-53-x [8 weeks] Mysterious trance producer EJ got signed to Gareth Emery's label in 2018 and 'Follow Me' was one of three tracks he released that year, with me discovering it a bit later. It's an instrumental although with vocal chops throughout, and it sounds a lot like what you'd expect from a Gareth Emery track but in a year where he dominated my chart that can't be a bad thing. #238. Joni Mitchell ~ River Date entered: 16/12/2016 Chart sales: 243,300 [469,400 total] Chart run: 32-35-x-81-25-11-x-24-13-9-5-x [4 weeks (9 total)] A song that has continued to grow year on year since first charting in 2016, it makes my EOY for the first time. As you may know this is a track from her 1971 album 'Blue' which has become somewhat of a underrated Christmas classic. The sparse piano really works here accompanying how she'll be feeling this Christmas, and it's a very well written song altogether. It also got a last minute small boost from revitalised interest following the Ellie Goulding cover (which I can't even listen to without her talking all over it, thanks a lot Amazon) and will likely reach my top 10 again this year. #237. Audien ~ Buzzing (feat. Nevve) Date entered: 13/09/2019 Chart sales: 243,300 Chart run: 54-64-83-74-89-80-40-61-77-96-78-73-… [12 weeks] Audien made somewhat of a comeback this year, with another BJSC entry ('Favourite Sound') and the release of a debut album (which I haven't listened to). This was the highlight of what I've heard however, a great progressive track which doesn't really offer anything new but it's got a strong hook and melodic drop. #236. Gareth Emery and Ashley Wallbridge ~ Mansion 140 Date entered: 17/05/2019 Chart sales: 245,400 Chart run: 13-11-21-42-64-76-96-x [7 weeks] Here's the first of many Gareth Emery & Ashley Wallbridge appearances, an album track from 'Kingdom United' which reworks their older track 'Mansion' turning it into a 140BPM banger (hence the title). I wasn't familiar with the original as it was from before I was a fan but this is clearly the better version for me, it has a lot more energy. Lewis Capaldi ~ Someone You Loved Date entered: 25/01/2019 Chart sales: 246,500 Chart run: 69-55-76-67-67-63-75-x [7 weeks] Someone you may not have been expecting to make an appearance is Lewis Capaldi who broke through massively with 'Someone You Loved' worldwide and was also a minor hit in my chart. He was so overexposed this year but it's easy to see why this song was a huge hit. It's just a simple song about heartbreak but for what it is it works. #234. Gryffin, Gorgon City and AlunaGeorge ~ Baggage Date entered: 27/09/2019 Chart sales: 247,000 Chart run: 25-54-42-50-64-64-42-54-64-81-… [10 weeks] Gryffin had a great year and in the run up to the full album release this came out and with Gorgon City and AlunaGeorge on board I was always going to enjoy it. It's always great to hear Aluna on a dance record. #233. Haliene ~ Saving Light (Acoustic) [#12, 2017] Date entered: 17/02/2017 Chart sales: 250,700 [1,650,600 total] Chart run: 1-1-1-1-1-2-3-4-5-9-7-8-7-12-16-17-22-19-25-32-39-40-46-45-57-63-66-90-x-19-23-41-55-80-x [5 weeks (33 total)] Having been the featured singer on Gareth Emery's 'Saving Light' (#12 in 2017's EOY), Haliene released an acoustic version of the track this year (combined with the original here but accounting for most of its yearly sales). It's a beautiful song in either form but unlike a lot of dance tracks this works perfectly stripped down too, with added strings here too making it just as emotional. #232. Ferreck Dawn and Leo Moreno ~ Selfish Games (feat. Alex Mills) Date entered: 06/09/2019 Chart sales: 252,100 Chart run: 97-84-85-53-50-47-49-67-96-x [9 weeks] Ferreck Dawn managed to get another big hit in my chart this year with 'In My Arms'. This was released as the follow-up featuring one of the best dance vocalists of the moment Alex Mills, although she doesn't sound quite like herself on this so it never managed to make the top 40. It's a perfectly serviceable house track anyhow. #231. Lewis Capaldi ~ Bruises Date entered: 04/10/2019 Chart sales: 252,600 Chart run: 55-94-x-86-93-x [4 weeks] And here's Lewis again this time with 'Bruises' which for me does better what 'Someone You Loved' was trying to do, you can really hear the emotion in his voice on this one. Peggy Gou ~ Starry Night Date entered: 28/06/2019 Chart sales: 252,900 Chart run: 24-27-37-59-59-x [5 weeks] One of the year's biggest underground dance tracks, this one stands out a lot in its field for its quirky vocal, disco influences and piano stabs. #229. Armin van Buuren ~ Stickup Date entered: 16/08/2019 Chart sales: 253,300 Chart run: 92-75-57-70-86-72-99-x-31-54-x [9 weeks] The first of many Armin appearances this year, this one is a festival ready trance banger. With the track's rally to "put your f***ing hands up" and the punchy beat it very much works for what it is. #228. deadmau5 ~ Drama Free (feat. Lights) Date entered: 23/11/2018 Chart sales: 254,000 [321,600 total] Chart run: 41-35-73-66-84-91-60-77-95-100-95-64-72-75-x [10 weeks (12 total)] Released late into last year it again proves how unique deadmau5 can be even on one of his vocal tracks. It took a bit of getting used to but it's brilliant and so is Lights' vocal delivery. #227. Kiesza ~ Sweet Love Date entered: 28/06/2019 Chart sales: 255,600 Chart run: 99-x-97-x-89-49-55-80-91-92-x [8 weeks] Kiesza's back again, it's a shame she gets barely any attention now because she's still capable of great tracks such as this. She really shows off her vocal ability here. #226. Ruben de Ronde and Louise Rademakers ~ Games (Giuseppe Ottaviani Remix) Date entered: 01/03/2019 Chart sales: 256,100 Chart run: 89-63-77-92-96-87-65-57-71-92-x [10 weeks] A lovely trance track, the original is a bit too slow for my liking but it charted after being given an uplifting remix by Giuseppe Ottaviani. Elk Road and Jes ~ Ghost Date entered: 15/02/2019 Chart sales: 257,400 Chart run: 40-34-38-47-54-69-x [6 weeks] Another BJSC discovery, this one's got a rather interesting drop and as ever Jes provides a great vocal. #224. Don Diablo and Jessie J ~ Brave Date entered: 03/05/2019 Chart sales: 257,700 Chart run: 18-24-58-87-80-82-x [6 weeks] One of the most unexpected comebacks of the year for Jessie J, but Don Diablo has proven to make any kind of vocalist work well one of his tracks and this is no exception. #223. Denis Kenzo ~ Stay Date entered: 26/10/2018 Chart sales: 258,900 [357,600 total] Chart run: 91-84-67-73-54-50-87-69-98-x-39-31-35-41-64-77-84-97-x [11 weeks (17 total)] It's been a good year for Russian trance DJ Denis Kenzo, and after 'Guide' making it big I soon discovered this recent instrumental track of his, which has a real driving beat to it plus a lovely break section. One of my faves in progressive trance at the moment. #222. Sam Robs and Kelvin Wood ~ No Scrubs Date entered: 22/03/2019 Chart sales: 260,500 Chart run: 84-57-69-95-x-94-52-61-x [7 weeks] One of the biggest trends in commercial dance this year has definitely been the rise of samples and remakes and we reach the first such one in this rundown. This one's a perfectly serviceable remake anyhow giving 'No Scrubs' the house treatment. #221. CLiQ ~ Anything I Do (feat. Ms Banks and Alika) Date entered: 23/11/2018 Chart sales: 261,600 [319,200 total] Chart run: 42-34-68-74-x-74-61-69-59-71-81-96-x [9 weeks (11 total)] Another CLiQ track, which I enjoyed a fair bit but it lacks the extra oomph that their previous singles had and thus stalled in the lower half of the top 40 and never fully recovered after Christmas. Elley Duhé) Date entered: 07/09/2018 Chart sales: 262,000 [323,500 total] Chart run: 96-x-93-x-53-39-40-47-57-66-83-81-x [9 weeks (10 total)] Gryffin's back again, this time with one of his future pop efforts which re-grew on me following 'Remember' and 'You Remind Me' both charting highly (they'll both be in the Hottest 100 too). It's a nice enough track anyhow and the best I've heard Elley Duhé on. #219. Riton and Oliver Heldens ~ Turn Me On (feat. Vula) Date entered: 20/09/2019 Chart sales: 262,900 Chart run: 19-36-59-50-61-57-86-93-99-x [9 weeks] It's not been too great of a year for Oliver Heldens comparatively as this is his only track in the entire rundown. However it was great to see him get another chart smash with this although it is far from my fave of his. Whereas for Riton it is definitely one of his best. Vula delivers a strong vocal and the sample is put to great use in the drop with the unmistakeable bassline of Oli. #218. Headhunterz ~ Home Date entered: 20/09/2019 Chart sales: 263,600 Chart run: 17-18-27-27-37-35-60-81-x [8 weeks] Headhunterz has been arguably the biggest name in hardstyle for a good few years but only this year I've become somewhat of a fan. His #1 hit will make an appearance much later on but for now here is one his followups, and one of his most solid ones alongside another to appear very soon. #217. It's another great progressive trance track although the vocal isn't as strong as on his tracks to come so it was a bit of a slow burner and missed the top 50. #214. Headhunterz and Sound Rush ~ Follow Me (feat. I'd call "Home" the stronger track but this was released earlier in the year, that's just the way this chart works. Not to undersell this though as it has a great hard hitting drop as Headhunterz is known for. #213. Mark Ronson ~ Find U Again (feat. 'Senorita' being her big hit of the year over this just proves the public often are wrong anyhow, it's a real solid pop song and one that should've really reached my top 40 as well. Mark Ronson has a proper talent for writing and producing these kinds of tracks and of course he will be appearing again much later on with his #1 hit... #211. Tiësto and Dzeko ~ Halfway There (feat. Sebastian Rejman) Date entered: 08/03/2019 Chart sales: 268,800 Chart run: 64-56-71-83-77-x-47-61-91-x [8 weeks] The first of three Darude tracks in this rundown, two of which are in this section. This was of course chosen to represent Finland at Eurovision and flopped massively, but it is the only such track in my rundown this year. As a dance track it's very serviceable and definitely the right choice out of the three tracks put up for consideration, but it's far from Darude's best. #209. Disclosure ~ Where Angels Fear To Tread [#81, 2018] Date entered: 22/08/2018 Chart sales: 269,600 [811,300 total] Chart run: 22-6-5-14-16-20-19-18-19-11-11-14-13-13-17-51-55-91-98-42-43-50-68-82-94-x [10 weeks (25 total)] QUOTE Disclosure quickly followed 'Moonlight' up with this as the second of their five releases in five days. It wasn't the instant highlight but eventually overtook 'Moonlight' and now finishes 16 places above it. Again it shows Disclosure's uniqueness as they sample, of all things, a vocal jazz a capella group, but makes it sound amazing and fresh. The vocal definitely helps but it's Disclosure's production quirks that really sell it. Don't have anything to add here. Aside from that I really wanna hear more Disclosure soon, come on guys.#208. Zara Larsson ~ All the Time Date entered: 28/06/2019 Chart sales: 270,400 Chart run: 43-35-36-46-46-64-83-x [7 weeks] Poor floppy Zara Larsson.  This really didn't deserve to bomb as much as it did, but then again it didn't do a whole lot better in my chart although it's still one of the best pure pop songs of the year. Hopefully we hear more from her soon (that isn't a throwaway for a Netflix film).#207. Darude and Ashley Wallbridge ~ Surrender (Hixxy Remix) (feat. Foux) [#45, 2018 (Original Mix)] Date entered: 09/02/2018 Chart sales: 265,600 [973,000 total] Chart run: 18-13-14-15-14-10-12-18-18-23-30-71-63-56-62-79-79-79-x-20-34-48-82-77-59-81-x [7 weeks (25 total)] QUOTE 2018 was a time for random comebacks and we got the second unexpected Darude comeback of the decade after he briefly made Thermo's hot hits in 2015. 'Surrender' also brought trance producer Ashley Wallbridge to the chart for the first time, and was released on Armada sub-label Garuda which he runs with Gareth Emery (which may explain the similarity this song has with Emery's 'Saving Light'). For now it's Darude's highest charting song, though it still isn't his biggest seller (no prizes for guessing). It's simply a great uplifting vocal trance song, it doesn't sound like Darude's older songs but this new style is very much welcome as it's what I'm really into at the moment. This came back in September after a remix package was released, with the Hixxy remix being the clear standout. That name is a real blast from the past I remember appearing on Clubland back in the day. The song really works in both forms although overall the original mix I clearly prefer. Also find it funny that back then Darude was the bigger act on my chart and now it's definitely the other way around. Stay tuned for a lot more Ashley Wallbridge (mostly thanks to Gareth Emery but still). #206. K-391 ~ Ignite (feat. Alan Walker, Julie Bergan and Seungri) Date entered: 12/10/2018 Chart sales: 278,200 [346,100 total] Chart run: 81-72-x-56-63-20-22-24-50-70-x [7 weeks (9 total)] A song I somewhat overlooked at the time, it came back and reached the top 20 following Alan Walker's album release despite this not featuring on it. Again it features the lovely vocals of Zoe Johnston though this is one of their few non-dance tracks (though they did remix it later), and it did surprise me how much I liked this because I'm not usually keen on their slower songs. This is a really nice song though, I do like a well done piano ballad and this one's even better than most with the atmospheric production. It sounded particularly great as a winter ballad which sent it back into my top 40 for a while, though it never reached near its original peak from the album release. #204. Super8 & Tab ~ Trigger Date entered: 03/05/2019 Chart sales: 280,000 Chart run: 84-69-71-85-57-71-80-x [7 weeks] Another solid progressive trance instrumental from these two who we'll see again much later on as 'Burn' is a potential EOY #1 contender. #203. Post Malone ~ Wow. Date entered: 04/01/2019 Chart sales: 280,100 Chart run: 7-12-16-25-72-88-86-x [7 weeks] Post Malone started the year off strong with this track released at Christmas, a nice short more rap leaning track from him which I generally prefer to his pop songs ('Circles' missed my top 50). Although it fell off quite fast it is his only entry this year, but not the last we'll see of his name... #202. EDX ~ Off The Grid (feat. Amba Shepherd) Date entered: 03/05/2019 Chart sales: 281,600 Chart run: 21-20-39-41-55-74-x [6 weeks] It's been another good year for EDX who has 3 entries this year. He's just great at consistently delivering the house bops. #201. Eelke Kleijn ~ Lost Souls (Nora En Pure Remix) (feat. Ost) Date entered: 20/09/2019 Chart sales: 282,600 Chart run: 52-59-63-55-65-68-85-88-95-38-27-… [11 weeks] A lovely deep house track here as I've come to expect from Nora En Pure who provided the remix to this track I'd otherwise have not have heard of. Also great to see Right Now, Someone You Loved and Ignite in here, all fantastic songs that will probably be in my EOY too, though I haven't checked yet! Where Angels Fear To Tread made my chart last year as well. |

Taking the best bits of POYH and adding Becky Hill in the mix was always going to do well with me and it instantly became their first top five here. Becky Hill sounds amazing on any dance track basically and this is no exception. #197. Dynoro and Gigi D'Agostino ~ In My Mind [#70, 2018] Date entered: 10/08/2018 Chart sales: 287,400 [887,900 total] Chart run: 97-48-13-11-10-15-19-21-21-23-20-26-27-28-28-28-27-64-73-x-65-58-87-85-x [6 weeks (23 total)] QUOTE This was a rather odd hit, but it quickly took off on Spotify here which really helped accelerate its ascent up this chart too, and it was great to see a dance song without the typical pop song structure break the UK top 40 (and eventually top five) again. I initially wasn't too sure of it, especially as it is a reworking of the brilliant Ivan Gough et al. song of the same name (EOY #63 in 2012) and it didn't quite do that version justice in my view, but Dynoro has a great unique take on the song, giving it a rather dark and tense texture in the buildup and pitching the vocal right up. The drop is very clever too, with the rattling beat and the subtle interpolation of 'L'amour Toujours' (which gives Gigi his first hit here as he must have demanded to receive a credit). Hope we hear more from him soon though I don't expect the magic will be re-created (and judging by his other songs so far, he seems very much a one trick producer). #196. Redfield ~ Don't Worry (Axwell Edit) Date entered: 19/07/2019 Chart sales: 287,900 Chart run: 89-89-86-77-56-67-61-61-79-94-92-76-77-x [13 weeks] Redfield for his debut release had this song given a little Axwell treatment which brought this to my attention, it's a great house track and hopefully we hear more next year.
