BuzzJack Music Forum _ Sugababes _ Streaming figures for all of the singles

Posted by: rowork 29th October 2017, 09:01 PM

Saw this idea another thread and thought it'd be interesting to look at how the singles have fared in the streaming world!

Spotify has this really annoying habit of combining only some of the radio/alternative edits with the main tracks... Therefore, I've compiled a portion of the singles manually, but haven't included remixes - this would take wayyyy too long, and in 99% of cases, they don't make a significant difference anyway.

THE SPOTIFY SINGLES - OCTOBER 2017

1. About You Now 17,413,340 + 2,132,502 (Radio Edit) + 589,855 (Acoustic Version) + 1,822,477 (Radio One Live Lounge) = 21,958,174
2. Push The Button 20,924,183 + 374,407 (Acoustic Version) = 21,298,590
3. Too Lost In You 11,689,140 + 1,788,094 (Radio Edit) + 937,419 (Love Actually Version) = 14,414,653
4. Overload 6,340,133
5. Get Sexy 6,198,816

6. Round Round 5,611,808 + 19,848 (Alternative Mix) = 5,631,656
7. Hole In The Head 5,242,993
8. Ugly 3,730,441 + 494,742 (Acoustic Version) = 4,225,183
9. Freak Like Me 3,216,746
10. Stronger 3,002,391

About A Girl 2,021,630
Shape 1,950,843
Red Dress 1,295,966 + 5,845 (Extended Mix) = 1,301,811
In The Middle 1,150,742
Denial 1,148,066
Girls 1,147,731
Wear My Kiss 758,378 + 332,260 (Edit) = 1,090,638
Change 923,635
Caught In A Moment 869,482
Walk This Way 683,137

Run For Cover 632,790
Easy 520,947
No Can Do 307,521 + 20,144 (Radio Edit) = 327,665
New Year 278,764
Soul Sound 234,350

Follow Me Home 85,999 + 84,658 (Amelle Mix) + 8,037 (Radio Edit) = 178,694
Angels With Dirty Faces 176,789
My Love Is Pink 174,590
Freedom 93,254

Thoughts? Personally, I'm really pleased to see Stronger, Shape, In The Middle and Denial performing as well as they are!

Posted by: 5 Silas Frøkner 29th October 2017, 09:20 PM

Easy and Run For Cover being in the bottom 10 is shocking. RFC especially is far too low for something so stunning and perfect.

Thanks for compiling this! It's really interesting to see how their singles are going.

Posted by: rowork 29th October 2017, 10:06 PM

Run is so unappreciated! As of lately, it's my #1. wub.gif

Walk This Way's plays are abysmal for such a big charity single/collab. Still think it's pretty far off Silver, too.

Posted by: 5 Silas Frøkner 29th October 2017, 10:21 PM

Deservedly so. Walk This Way is not a stand out moment for either band.

RFC wub.gif While Overload gets its rightful recognition, Run For Cover is cruelly overlooked.

Posted by: Steve D 30th October 2017, 08:23 AM

I thought New Year would be higher if I'm honest too.

Posted by: rowork 30th October 2017, 11:12 PM

Me too! I thought it'd be considerably higher given its Christmas/winter feel. Probably overlooked for Too Lost In You when it comes to playlisting.

Posted by: 5 Silas Frøkner 31st October 2017, 07:25 AM

Not surprised, Too Lost In You has the Love Actually connection so it will always get a decent rotation at Christmas.

It'd be nice for New Year to be a bit higher, but when Run For Cover is so low as well, who the hell knows what people are thinking

Posted by: rowork 2nd November 2017, 12:12 PM

The entire One Touch era was/is completely unappreciated by the public (Overload included). I'm just glad that European countries appreciated it that little bit more!

It still bugs me that Run For Cover is a UK bonus on Overloaded, and the complete omission of New Year is unbelievable. So much for a 'singles collection'.

Funnily enough, Spotify have just added the Love Actually Version to their #ThrowbackThursday playlist! It's nearing 1 million plays alone. wub.gif

Posted by: 5 Silas Frøkner 26th November 2017, 11:25 AM

Curious to see if New Year gets an uptick over Xmas at all thinking.gif

Expect TLIY to make some serious in roads on the top 2 this month

Posted by: rowork 26th November 2017, 09:02 PM

New Year is on 282,455 now ( arrow up.gif from 278,764). Not moving that much at all, but I've noticed it's on the 'Classic Christmas' compilation album, so maybe that'll help its streams. Still a bit of time to go yet (even if TLIY will always be seen as their main 'Christmas single').

Posted by: 5 Silas Frøkner 27th November 2017, 07:27 AM

It’s funny because New Year is the one that makes all the critics lists of best Christmas songs and TLIY isn’t that christmassy at all we’re it not for the Love Actually connection

Posted by: rowork 27th November 2017, 01:01 PM

^ Very true! And while it wasn't massive, it held up pretty decently for a new act releasing at the heart of the Christmas period.

Posted by: 5 Silas Frøkner 7th December 2017, 10:38 PM

Especially for a song that's not really traditionally Christmasy.

^ that didn't help things either.

Overload was iconic but this was phoned in. Then RFC got the best video of the era with something that actually felt wintery

Posted by: rowork 14th December 2017, 11:41 PM

Always hated that video. Probably damaged the single's impact, given how important music videos were back then. dry.gif

New Year seems to be enjoying a little Spotify boost at 288,777 plays (up from October's 278,764).

Too Lost In You has made much more progress with overall plays of 15,500750 (up from October's 14,414,653). Expect it to increase some more this month, given that Love Actually's now been released to Netflix!

Posted by: 5 Silas Frøkner 17th December 2017, 04:45 PM

Wonder if we can end the year on 17m for TLIY and 300k for New Year!

Posted by: rowork 23rd December 2017, 12:24 AM

As of December 23rd, Too Lost In You has 15,709,731 overall plays, meaning it's up by 208,981 in just over one week! That's pretty amazing... but also pretty devastating when - in the space of nine days - it's almost eclipsed New Year's overall streams (292,338 - up 3,561). Nonetheless, good to see some progress.

Posted by: rowork 22nd January 2018, 07:29 PM

January 2018 - Increases since October 2017

1. About You Now | 18,736,798 + 2,781,950 (Radio Edit) + 1,866,199 (Radio One Live Lounge) + 606,006 (Acoustic Version) = 24,996,953 (+3,038,779)
2. Push The Button | 22,527,561 + 380,738 (Acoustic Version) = 22,908,299 (+1,609,709)
3. Too Lost In You | 13,476,213 + 1,799,358 (Radio Edit) + 1,235,489 (Love Actually Version) = 16,511,060 (+2,096,407)
4. Overload | 6,865,368 (+525,235)
5. Get Sexy | 6,407,419 (+208,603)
6. Round Round | 6,141,981 + 20,988 (Alternative Mix) = 6,162,969 (+531,313)
7. Hole In The Head | 5,630,555 (+387,562)
8. Ugly | 4,049,347 + 535,164 (Acoustic Version) = 4,584,511 (+359,328)
9. Freak Like Me | 3,434,539 (+217,793)
10. Stronger | 3,185,040 (+182,649)

Some juicy increases for the top 3! Amongst the less popular singles, Change and Caught In A Moment aren't too far off 1 million plays. wub.gif

Posted by: 5 Silas Frøkner 22nd January 2018, 07:48 PM

Great jump for AYN and of course the Christmas bump for TLIY

Posted by: rowork 23rd January 2018, 01:20 PM

Yep, and just for us - New Year made 300k! wub.gif

Posted by: 5 Silas Frøkner 24th January 2018, 07:25 AM

Aww yay! Nice to see it have a little bump up

So weird having Get Sexy top 5.

I guess it's their last "big" hit, though it looks like Round Round is catching up to it.

Hole and Ugly will eventually pass it going by those numbers, but it might take a while.

Posted by: 5 Silas Frøkner 31st January 2018, 07:00 AM

At current rates Get Sexy should be relegated behind Round Round by May. If my maths is correct

Posted by: rowork 6th February 2018, 09:40 PM

^ And quite rightly so. Get Sexy needs to depart from that Top 10 immediately.

Overload should pass 7 million plays this week! wub.gif

Posted by: rowork 25th February 2018, 01:06 PM

Hole In The Head has moved into their Top 5 on Spotify with close to 6 million plays! Was featured on a throwback playlist and it's had quite an impact.

True justice for this masterpiece. How I love the Three era. wub.gif

Posted by: 5 Silas Frøkner 25th February 2018, 06:20 PM

YAAAAAAAAAAS Utter injustice that Get Sexy was above so many stone cold 2.0 classiques

Posted by: rowork 18th May 2018, 03:52 PM

Some big Spotify milestones!

Caught In A Moment and Change have both passed 1 million plays. Push The Button has exceeded 25 million plays, Freak Like Me is now on 4 million, and Round Round just passed 7 million as of yesterday. The main version of About You Now looks set to reach 21 million soon, and Overload isn't far off 8 million.

Some great news all round! Although their numbers are still way too low. I guess that's the price you pay for peaking during the physical era! All your fans have your music so don't need to stream it

Posted by: rowork 28th June 2018, 02:07 PM

As well as moving up to #4 in their Spotify Top 10, Overload is about to pass 8 million plays, while Push The Button is just on the edge of 26 million.

Posted by: rowork 12th September 2018, 11:28 AM

September update! They're currently at 1,407,620 monthly listeners on Spotify - pretty sure that's a new peak.

Push The Button = approaching 28 million plays
Too Lost In You = approaching 18 million plays
Overload = approaching 9 million plays

About You Now, Push The Button and Too Lost In You remain in their top 3 respectively, whilst Overload's moved up to #4 and Hole In The Head is now #5 - a solid top 5, I'm sure you'll all agree!

One interesting development as of today - Walk This Way is now in their top 10... ohmy.gif It recently passed a million plays (1,086,298 atm), and I suppose one advantage of this is that it might edge it closer towards a certification (their only #1 not to have one).

Posted by: 5 Silas Frøkner 12th September 2018, 04:32 PM

Hmmmm very interesting developments!!! So nice to see Overload get so much love though! It deserves its top 5 placing

Shame to see Run For Cover so low as it's such a high point in their back catalogue.

Freak and Stronger's performance still makes me so sad. They both deserve so much better

I think it's so much easier to stream regardless of you having a physical copy so that's not the reason. It's just people move on and it's hard to maintain deep interest and play music regularly when you have nothing fresh coming out. Plus a lot of people who stream now weren't even born when Sugababes formed~ poor poor schmucks

Posted by: 5 Silas Frøkner 22nd September 2018, 09:26 AM

All my stuff is integrated with Apple Music so any time I listen to them it’s just playing what I own and counting as streaming. Last time I used Spotify it integrated with the music on your nom-Apple device but it has been a long time.

I do suspect that not releasing anything in 5 years really doesn’t help matters. And way to make us feel old!!!!

That Hear This Piss has a higher number than the stunning Run For Cover is a disgrace.

'Too Lost in You' in their top 3 most streamed is crazy. More than the no1 hits 'Hole in the Head', 'Round Round' and 'Freak Like Me' is really surprising to me.

Posted by: 5 Silas Frøkner 23rd September 2018, 08:10 PM

Thanks to Love Actually it's seen as a Christmas Song so it always gets wheeled out around that time, as does the movie. It's on a lot of radio stations Christmas Playlists too. As a result it's kept more in people's minds than most of their songs are.

Posted by: rowork 10th October 2018, 03:44 PM

The girls have reached 1,917,242 monthly listeners on Spotify - that's their highest ever! Maybe Mutya's TV work is paying off!? Queen. wub.gif

Following on from Jay's September 16th update, PTB has now passed 28 million plays and is edging towards the 29 million mark. It's been added to a few playlists recently, including the top spot on All Out 00s, which has almost 4 million followers. Now for some really interesting developments... RFC has been added to Spotify's Black Britain: Soul Sisters playlist, and even weirder (not that I'm complaining!), Lush Life (68,564 streams atm) has been slotted in there, too! Definite OT stan over at Spotify.

So pleasing to see Overload in the top 5, but Run For Cover out of the top 20 is borderline criminal. It's such a beautiful track

Posted by: rowork 10th March 2019, 11:30 AM

^ Too true. The only thing bringing me comfort is that it's slowly but surely edging towards one million streams. It would get there faster if Spotify listed the UK version of Overloaded in the albums section, rather than the EU tracklist which omits this absolute beauty. wub.gif

From the desktop version of Spotify (and some calculations along the way!)

Since the March 9th update, Red Dress has increased by 39,647. I'm sure some of that is down to its inclusion on that playlist. Not far off 2 million now. wub.gif

Ohhhh yay!!!! Hole In The Head cannot be far behind now.

9,228,810 atm, so slowly but surely. Actually, in terms of the glorious Three era, Too Lost In You isn't far off 22 million, and In The Middle is very close to 2 million (should get there within the week!) wub.gif

Exactly. It doesn't seem to be as popular on Spotify as it once was. With a bit of luck, it'll slip out of their Top 10 (#9 right now) and never, ever return.
