Hiipe I initially thought I might be doing fairly well this month but I'm a bit less confident of that now oops. Hope I can at least beat the 15th place I got in the previous Jade hosted CB (there are 4 fewer entries so that isn't that big of an ask really). Also hoping Christian Löffler improves on his result when I entered him before (and Julien Bracht to win or at least come close x).

Lewis not only opens the show tonight as a voter but is also revealed as the first song in the running order! He championed young, female talent with Dutch DJ Nicky Elisabeth. The warm 'Sun' isn't the only time that a certain star at the centre of the solar system would appear as a theme in the contest. Next up is uhsting's entry which was not at all hinted at during the listening session after being uncovered in his personal chart He currently sits in the top 10 at this early stage with mïus, based in Hungary, who is defined as "a multi-art project wherein the different fields of self-expressioin meet each other" so, ~arty~ stuff. His points result in a new leader as 'Nocturne' clinches that top spot!

Thank you for the kind words, Wardy! You may have wondered if Dobbo was behind German artist Sunlounger, as his BJSC nation Dobago sent him there in the past, but no - not this time. He finished 14th in the BuzzJack Song Contest - can he aim for top 10 in Club Bizarre? If so then it's a slow start at the moment, but at least off 0. Meanwhile, Wardy helps a legendary name in electronic music rise off nil points in style, as Tangerine Dream receive his bronze. A gold medal is not enough for FC Kahuna to topple Julien Bracht from the top, as the latter still has a strong showing in these votes, with 7 increasing that lead to 5 points ahead of 2nd.

I aspire to be as relaxed as the above frog. Next up the identity of a hot favourite so far is revealed, as Chez Wombat is behind the captivating 'Nocturne' by German-based producer Julien Bracht! One of my favourite ever Eurovision winners is called 'Nocturne'... could this scoop the prize here? Well, not right now, as Chez performs a foot shoot and pushes himself down to the bronze position. So yeah I did already know Julien was Chez's due to him having confirmed the song for BJSC last month before switching but it is a gorgeous song by a fantastic artist (stream the Rave Flower EP) so I'm very pleased it was still sent somewhere in the end! Here's hoping for it not to be yet another Chez 2nd placer x

Recondite - Levo

Cat klaxon!! This can only mean one thing... the Bré votes have landed. He is behind yet another German producer in the contest, this time Recondite. He finds himself in a strong 8th place position at the moment, alongside Whitewildbear who launches into the top 10 now off the strength of a silver medal. But Bré's 12 points propel Chez back into the lead. Could he be an incredible 3-time Club Bizarre winner after tonight? We'll just have to wait and see...

Elsewhere, just two songs remain on 0 now as Bré puts lewis out of his misery!

Also... look at that 17th - 19th place section as Noah & The Whale once said... "sun, sun sun!"

Nora Van Elken - Dire, Dire Docks

So it is Rich who is behind 'Dire, Dire Docks'! This was a bit more of a quirky pick as it's a Super Mario 64 cover. However, this isn't the first time that Rich has selected female Mario-related talent in a song contest. Some of you may remember FSR Rontvia's standout BJSC entry 'Super Mario Bros.' by Tina Guo around 5 years ago! Niche goals.

His votes result in a switch around of the 'Soar' / 'Winter In The Woods' / 'Nocturne' trio once more, as Chez is knocked back down to third. These really seem like the ones to beat so far!

Oops flopping a bit. So I always loved the music from Dire, Dire Docks (I always got a similar melodic vibe from Madonna’s Jump too?).

Thought I’d check for this if anyone had made it into a dance song and turns out they had!

I was wondering if the person who confirmed Nora Van Elken would have actually been aware it was a remix of a track from Super Mario 64 since it seemed most if not all people at the listenthrough weren't - I guess Rich makes sense with him having sent a Mario remix to BJSC before too haha. It was a little weird to hear in the contest but a pretty good remix of it, could have come across a lot more gimmicky than it did!

I'd be happy with a Faux Tales or Leaving Laurel win too (actually voted for all of the current top 6).

Tangerine Dream - Love On A Real Train

Next up it is first-time participant jimwatts! It has been a pleasure to have you in the fold this time. He selected the legendary Tangerine Dream, who have been active since my mum was born right up until present day. They are yet another German act in the contest! Bré once came 24th with them in the BJSC 80s spin-off (the song in question was '21st Century Common Man (Part I)') but they're at least guaranteed a top 21 place here Jim's votes keep 'Soar' at the top but the lead between first and second is cut to just one measly point - and it's Chez back in his oh-so-familiar bridesmaid position now! Elsewhere, Aurora B.Polaris can now be found lighting up the top 5.

I had a feeling that Mario 64 might be a little …vintage for that many people here to have played it/recognise the song!

I didn’t want to draw attention to that though and hoped it would stand up on its own musical merit!

I've been a fan of most of what I've checked out from Tangerine Dream and this song was no exception, my only complaint was it being a little too short!

Rather top heavy looking results so far, me still clinging onto the top 10 despite not getting points from the last few voters gah.

I've never actually played the game, I'm just randomly quite into Super Mario 64 speedrun content on YouTube so I've heard the music hundreds of times in those videos haha.

08 • King Rollo was behind...

Aurora B.Polaris - Into The Void (Deep Mix)

Rollo wasn't behind the longest song of the contest but his chill-step ambience did clock in at almost 7 minutes long. The pun-tastic Aurora B.Polaris is based in Italy and this has single-handedly reminded me to do my Duolingo lesson before the day is over. Thanks for that unintentional nudge Anyway, a certain Armstrong has made a noteworthy journey. No, not that one, instead Craig Armstrong has shot from 0 to 12 points! A few people actually speculated that 'Let’s Go Out Tonight' could be Rollo's entry at the SyncTube listening session, so him being such a fan may not come as much of a surprise. Instead, Rollo is smashing it in 6th place right now. His silver medal puts Chez back at the top of the podium at this moment in time!

Now there is just one entry left on 0... poor Aphrodelics. Where are all the weed [citation needed] heads at?

'Into The Void' is the one song out of the consensus hits so far that I wasn't feeling quite as much as the rest (not bad by any means though), interesting that most of those remain unrevealed so far.

Faux Tales - Soar

Now we have Club Bizarre titan Dobbo who may just have another smash on his hands! 'Soar', by Swiss born talent Faux Tales, ended the contest on a high for voters so far as it is currently second on the leaderboard, even after Dobbo's own votes! He provides a slight boost to the current leader 'Nocturne' and pushes FC Kahuna up to the podium positions too. Dobbo stated in the voting thread that his 12 was an almighty grower and this has turned out to be Bré's entry, which is slightly more secure in the top 10 now.

1 point to Aphrodelics means that everything is off 0 sorry folks, no wooden spoon to see here!

Ooh! Thank you Dobbo, lovely to have a gold medal in the bag here *.* and a great entry from you too (so you were recycling one of your past BJSC artists after all, just not the one I predicted haha). Faux Tales are another act I've generally enjoyed most of what I have heard from (since being introduced to them by your own BJSC entry) and again no disappointment here, another great cinematic song, glad to see it doing so well so far.

10 • Jade was behind...

FC Kahuna - Hayling (feat. Hafdis Huld)

So it was ME behind this much-talked about entry in the voting thread I discovered 'Hayling' from looking through trip-hop playlists for this contest and couldn't believe my luck to discover such a gem, from this fusion of British and Icelandic talent. I observed that the eerie music video I submitted had 600k views in 10 years and it charted outside the top 40 so I didn't think it was that well known. It has since been brought to my attention that it's a cult classic in the Chill Out universe so... my bad, especially as others considered it but, in my defence, I was 5-years-old when it came out and was listening to music like Busted and Junior Senior, certainly not anything outside of the top 40 yet and so far it isn't a winner! Instead I've just shot myself in the foot and booted 'Hayling' out of the podium. Now, my 10 pointer by Leaving Laurel re-enters the medal table and becomes the third entry to break 50 points. I secure Julien's lead a little more but also throw some points to Faux Tales just behind. Some people guessed that 'L'Esperanza' was me at the listening session, but nope, instead it was my favourite and rises to 6th. Whitewildbear was another guess for me (maybe due to my enthusiasm towards samples?) but this wasn't quite right either. I push that up to 7th now and uhsting back into the top 10.

DJ Shadow - Midnight In A Perfect World

Next up another poster within the top 5 is unmasked! Doctor Blind opted for trip-hop legend DJ Shadow who is also known as formerly being a part of UNKLE. Some suspected that Dandy was behind this one at the listening session, alas, we wait a little longer for his reveal. 'Midnight In A Perfect World' started to bring back some voices in the contest after a long string of instrumentals prior to it. Doctor B rewards a fellow well-respected name, Tangerine Dream, well and sends them back into the top 10 off the back of a gold medal. Could jimwatts achieve a top 10 result from his debut? We shall see how it holds up. That silver medal for Whitewildbear is his third of the night so far. Elsewhere, these votes also put FC Kahuna back into the top 3 and strengthen Julien Bracht's lead - now 13 points ahead of Faux Tales, whose tally was also topped up a little here. Will that unlucky number gap be the sign of a turning tide on the horizon?

The top song may not have changed but we now have a new last place after Aphrodelics received 5 points within these votes. Poor lewistgreen!

Aphrodelics - Rollin'on chrome (Wild motherf***er dub)

Our twelfth voter tonight is Ansel who is behind the intriguing 'Rollin'on chrome (Wild motherf***er dub)' by Austrian hip-hop group Aphrodelics. As mentioned in the previous commentary, this has now escaped last place at least and is fighting for that top 20 scrape. 'Levo' now receives its second 12 of the night (a 12 from voter #12 is pretty cool, right Bré?) and moves up to 8th place. The silver medal for 'L'Esperanza' vaults it into the top 5, so we now go back to being unaware of the identity of two current top 5 participants. 8 pointer Craig Armstrong has quietly been making progress, after being stuck on one voter for a while - now he not far off the top 10. Julien Bracht's lead is cut down to 9, with a new immediate rival now in FC Kahuna, plus 'Winter In The Woods' re-enters the podium. It's definitely still all to play for!

I can’t begrudge you for sending Hayling Jade, especially as it was a new discovery for you, you had no way of knowing its cult status, and as I said in the other thread, it was hardly a smash hit so unless you’re in those older circles you’d have never known. I’m always happy to be reminded of it, if only Hafdís would get the attention she deserves commercially <3

AVAION - Pieces

Cow Cow served us an emotional entry about loneliness, albeit with a bit of a kick to the production. This was courtesy of another German artist, AVAION. He currently sits just outside of the top 15. Cow's favourite of the edition was Kasbo, who now rises into the top 10 thanks to this gold medal. 10 points to Julien Bracht ensures Chez a lead of 15 points at this stage. Dobbo now re-joins the top 3 thanks to 7 points for 'Soar'. Nora Van Elken has quietly been making progress lately and is a whisker away from top 10 now, thanks to a bronze medal.

Aphrodelics are now out of the bottom 2, leaving Nu & Jo.Ke to take their place in 20th instead. We still await the identity of the poster behind 'Who Loves The Sun'.

14 • Addy was behind...

Sven Väth - L'Esperanza

So it is Addy who received top marks from the host this time! SyncTube listeners guessed that either me or Addy had sent 'L'Esperanza' so you guys were definitely on to something here. We have a multitude of German DJs in the contest, including Sven Väth now, but I believe this is our only foreign language entry. The soft vocals are mixed with ambient, trance-meets-techno production and a summery video, filled with water and dolphins. The song missed the top 40 in the U.K. but did chart within the top 75. It deserved better! Addy performs a bit of a foot-shoot here by knocking himself out of the top 5, allowing Whitewildbear in there for the first time. 'Light' has now received FOUR silver medals but no golds yet! Addy's top marks to Sunlounger mean that Wardy is now in the top 15. We also have a new last place as these votes were generous to both Nicky Elisabeth and Aphrodelics! Nu & Jo.Ke are now right down there. The top 2 of the leaderboard are snubbed but 3rd place 'Soar' receives a top up.

Nu & Jo.Ke - Who Loves The Sun

Voter #15 is Juan Carlos who was behind the penultimate song in the running order! 'Who Loves The Sun' was our longest entry as it clocks in at over 9 minutes. It was also potentially the funkiest. But the lyrics paint quite a sad picture behind all that. 'Who Loves The Sun' is experiencing difficulty on the leaderboard at the moment, but there's still time for it to crack double-figures before the night is out. Juan's 12 this time goes to Kasbo, which strengthens its chances at a top 10 finish. These votes are a lot kinder to the contenders than the last, as Julien receives a silver medal (extending that lead in 1st to 19 points!), FC Kahuna get 6, Leaving Laurel 7 and Faux Tales 2 - the latter two are currently tied in 3rd place. Yeah, I was the one who submitted "Who Loves The Sun" and I think some of you may have guessed that earlier if you checked my last.fm account.

Anyway, the way I found out this song is interesting to be honest. I was at the gym and while I was taking a shower after I finished my training, this song was being played there. I liked what I was listening to, so I shazamed it because I have no idea who were behind the track. That said, thanks to the ones who liked the track and gave votes to it so far, although I'm currently in the last place.

Christian Löffler - Blind

Next up is Kath who is behind 'Blind' by German DJ Christian Löffler, who describes his sound as the mixture of a gloomy spirit with a warm sincerity. I'm surprised to see this one in the bottom 5 right now, as its second biggest fan so far! Kath rallies big support behind 'Nocturne' which has become the first entry to smash past triple figures. If Chez keeps up this momentum until the end and seals the win, then he would eclipse mine and Mattias' 2 Club Bizarre wins and would only be behind Dobbo's 4 to date. There's still time for a late snatch, but Julien is looking pretty strong at the moment with a 25 point lead. He has 2 gold medals and 5 silvers to date. Kath's 10 points to 'Levo' pushes that up to 7th place and the bronze medal for Kaskade means that is out of the bottom 3 now. We actually have an updated last place again as Nicky Elisabeth slips back down there with 13 points. A 6 point boost for FC Kahuna ensures that 'Hayling' is still the closest competition to Julien Bracht at the moment.

Craig Armstrong - Let’s Go Out Tonight

Next up it's Dandy and I'm rather pleased that this edition has the seal of approval from the host of the previous Chill Out! It was speculated at the listening session that he might be behind DJ Shadow, but instead, it was Scottish composer Craig Armstrong. I think the only guess people made for this one was Rollo. 'Let’s Go Out Tonight' is a blend of contemporary classical and downtempo. This one currently sits in 16th place, mostly helped by two huge fans in Ansel and Rollo so far. Dandy's favourite of the lot was one of the contenders tonight, from Faux Tales, who now claims bronze for himself at this stage. Dandy snubs the favourite but awards my entry in second place his bronze, so Julien's lead is cut down to 17 points. Could this still be assailable by the end? Meanwhile, Christian Löffler finds a new biggest fan so far in Dandy with that silver medal and ascends into the top 15 as a result!

Whitewildbear - Light

The identity of another top 10 participant is now revealed! A lot of people seemed to think that I was the one behind 'Light' during the listening session, possibly because I pointed out that the "I've fallen somehow, feet off the ground" lines sounded like an (inspired!) sample of 'Climax' by Usher, alas I just have an ear for a sample/interpolation. Iz performs a bit of a foot shoot here, as he falls out of the top 5, due to giving a full 12 points to Kasbo. To date Iz has achieved two top 5 positions in Club Bizarre, we shall wait and see if Whitewildbear can claw his way back in for a third by the end of tonight. Elsewhere, 10 points for Nora Van Elken sends 'Dire, Dire Docks' back into the top 10 at this stage! The bronze medal for 'Who Loves The Sun' lifts it out of the bottom 2. Iz awards our current leader Julien Bracht 5 points, but second place 6 points, so the gap between me and Chez shortens to 16 points. Faux Tales is chasing my tail though as that is only 7 points behind FC Kahuna in 3rd. Exciting times!

Kaskade - Are You Listening? - Extended Mix (feat. Sunsun)

Next up we have the J00ps votes! It turns out that they are the poster behind the Kaskade entry. This may be a familiar artist name thanks to the deadmau5 feature 'I Remember' back in 2009. This time Kaskade is the lead artist, with Sunsun the feature. It seems that people have icy hearts as we have Sunlounger, Sunsun, 'Who Loves The Sun' and 'Sun' all in the bottom 5 it's like the contest was, err, oversaturated or something. Jupiter awards their 12 to Whitewildbear, the first gold medal for Iz tonight after a huge haul of silvers! His entry is now 4th, albeit by a whisker. The 10 pointer in these votes is courtesy of Aurora B.Polaris, so Rollo experiences a top 10 comeback. Jupiter then awarded FC Kahuna 8 points... so I become the second person to break past the 100 point barrier tonight! They have snubbed Julien Bracht so the lead is cut down to just 8 points at a crucial point in the game tense times.

Leaving Laurel - Winter In The Woods

Our penultimate set of votes come from Dan who is currently sitting in 6th place! He rebelled against the sunny tales elsewhere and instead took a premature snowy walk in the woods in winter. This was courtesy of Leaving Laurel and their pretty instrumental effort. He did turn up the heat in a few places for his votes, though! Such as Nicky Elisabeth receiving her biggest points of the night, a generous 10. This demotes Ansel back down to last place, despite also receiving 3 points here. Nora Van Elken edges ever closer back to the top 10 again thanks to that bronze-coloured top up. However, by far the biggest impact here, a whopping full 12 points to Faux Tales, has contributed to DRAMA AT THE FINAL HOUR!!! Dobbo now becomes the third (and final, based on the numbers left) country to pass 100 points and leapfrogs me in the process, as Dan snubbed FC Kahuna... and he also gave 0 to Julien Bracht. So, we have THREE songs battling for the crown with one set of votes left maybe we'll get a debut winner next contest, but in the meantime... will Dobbo extend his cabinet of Club Bizarre wins to a huge 5? Tbh I should have been predicting Julien to be 2nd all along given I knew who sent him a shame to see my 12 missing out on the win by such a tiny margin but I did vote for 'Soar' too of course so still a good winner, well done Dobbo once again!

In fact voted for 7 of the top 8, while finishing in 9th myself, so hooray for being pretty in touch with the majority this time! (Tbf they are mostly songs I'd have predicted to do quite well, I think Whitewildbear is probably the closest to a surprise out of those so fab to see that as high as 4th). Happy with a single digit finish for 'Levo' especially with the bulk of its points coming from 12s and 10s, I felt a little more invested in this entry than I do for a lot of my CB entries so glad it didn't entirely fall on deaf ears! 'Dire, Dire Docks' in the top 10 is quite a surprise but why not x

Christian Löffler came 16th/21 when I sent him as well so I guess that's just his glass ceiling D: still think Nicky Elisabeth deserved way better too but yay for not being last at least.

ngl I was tearing my hair out with finding an entry for this as I was in Europe and didn't have anything at hand prior, but I remembered having Kasbo as a BJSC potential last year... Went back to that album, found this beauty, LOVED IT and thought "let's do it, full send" expecting ABSOLUTELY NOTHING considering how y'all treated Snail's House. I expected bottom 3 so 6th was a SHOCK. Thanks to everyone who loved it enough to give it points!

oh wow what a great surprise turn of events right at the end there! Soar is a real beauty so easily made my twelve points and is a very deserving winner here.

anyhow, thanks for a great hosted contest Jade! a really good quality contest songs wise also, I did enjoy the remainder of the top three albeit not enough to give them any points.

very pleased to have another top five finish for myself too, it was a fave of mine last winter and I hadn’t really considered it as a song contest entry but thought it would be most suited for chill out theme.

nice to see Nora Van Ellen eventually grab a decent position, shame for the sunny entries they couldn’t follow.

Dobbo if you’d like to host in January then let us know now then we can think about the theme and dates closer to the time.

Well, now I'm kinda glad I didn't follow this live, or Dandy, Jupiter and Dan might have been banned by now

Tbh, I'll take the 2nd place (it's only my 2nd runner-up here actually, I had more wins here until now!), I'm more annoyed as I passed on this in BJSC last month as I wasn't sure how well it would do, in favour of Sung which DNQ'd, I'm now thinking I may have made a mistake there (I mean this is like a quarter of those who take part there, but still x).

Nonetheless, I'm really pleased I got to send Julien somewhere and I'm very happy I can introduce this to others. This is taken from his 2021 album, Now Forever One, which contains numerous other ambient techno brilliance and he also has a new EP out right now called Rave Flower which has a slightly more, well, ravier style, but still wonderful. I would really recommend it to all who enjoyed this one, thank you very much all for your generous points

I can't begrudge the winner, hell I completely shot myself in the foot for it, congrats yet again to Dobbo! Another great entry from this artist after the one in BJSC. Fantastic to see my 12-pointer, Leaving Laurel in the top 10 as well as most of my votes, though I was hoping Into the Void and Panorama would do a bit better.

Actually, seeing that my previous entry to Chill Out was one of my best ever results here, I just looked up similar artists to Kazukii (would have never thought about the sample) Definitely a style of chilled dance I really like though, not too dissimilar from the old Schulz remix hits.

Great winner, 'Soar' was definitely one of the best tracks here though 'Nocturne' was also exccellent, fantastic top 3 overall, plus so many high points for 'Light', thank you everyone, it's really nice to score another hit. And fantastic hosting by Jade, really enjoyed reading the commentary.

Really strong Top 3 there! Congrats to Dobbo, and thank you Jade for hosting - and doing such a great job with it all. FC Kahuna is fairly niche, the only reason I really knew of its existence was because of its use in Monkey Dust, which had a lot of great 'under the radar' type singles from the early 2000s as its https://www.mixcloud.com/Roots_Loops/monkey-dust/. Sometimes I can't believe that BBC3 ever put out something as dark, controversial and brilliant as Monkey Dust and it was all a dream..

Anyway I really enjoyed this edition and having that playlist to soundtrack my few days hill walking in the SCottish Borders was matched the mood perfectly.

Wow that was quite the ride with how the votes turned out then. As jimwatts alluded to overturning a 37 point deficit with only 5 votes to go seemed quite the stretch indeed, couldn't believe it! Turned out to be a bit of a rematch following the 70s and 80s edition between myself and Chez although Jade was also in the mix for the whole battle this time. Congratulations for winning the EOY too

I was actually planning to send Soar to BJSC 150 for a very rare self-recycle in that specific contest but when this theme appeared I had to jump at the opportunity. Good to hear others have gotten into some of his stuff after I sent Atlas a few years back (albeit that was mostly Alpha 9 sounding of course).

That's a nice nugget of trivia there I wonder if CB22 will follow CB2 as well?

Super hosting Jade, well done! I seem to be alone in thinking this was a meh contest in terms of quality and Christian Loffler flopping was a bit of a surprise. Blind is an all-time electronic fave of mine, immaculately produced and the emotions it evokes gives me goosebumps. Good thing I never sent it to BJSC then 🙉 Ty Dandy for the 10, and Brer and Jerd for the other decent points x
