I decided to start this thread based on the 90s forgotten smashes thread as I discovered this largely forgotten i think, #5 hit from 1982

A stunning imo, very dark ballad that went top 5, very different to anything else around at the time it seems. Doesn't get played much on the radio I don't think any more sadly.

Any more largely forgotten 80s tracks?

Ghosts is a fabulous song. It was good to see a lot of love for it on Twitter when it featured on the TOTP repeats, including from some who didn't know the song.

This early Depeche Mode song made #6, but has been completely overshadowed by the inferior imo 'Just Can't Get Enough'.

The Vince Clarke-era Depeche Mode released some great singles (as did the band after he left). That includes their rather wondrful debut which ws a bit of a random purchase for me after I liked their track on the Some Bizzare compilation album.

From Depeche Mode, I do like Master and Servant, not for the lyrics but for the production, which sounds very modern for 1984.

Its Called A Heart is great too, also because of the interesting production

I'm SHOCKED that Snake did not mention the classic “Living On Video” by Trans-X. #9 in August 1985. Hopefully we'll see it on TOTP / BBC 4 later this year!

You know its one of my faves biggrin.gif The 1985 version was slightly different and not as dancey, I prefer the 1982 version.

Anyway the instrumental of the 1982 version does sound a bit like early 90s eurodance (the likes of Maxx particularly for example) without so much of a hard beat!

I wouldn't really call 'Living On Video' forgotten though!

One of the earliest commercially successful house tracks in early 1988. It got to #5!

Following this, only the next few weeks this followed it into the Top 10 to make #2. “Winter In July” is also forgotten and pretty great, but that's from 1991.

Howard Jones is remembered - but I wonder how many people remember “Things Can Only Get Better” (not by D:Ream) which got to #6 in February 1985?
I only know of it because of the sample used for Eric Prydz's “And Do You Feel Scared?”

This was never a hit I don't think, so it can't be forgotten as it was never known in the first place. But I do love it!

I prefer this early house track (as it is probably the most powerful sounding of the early house tracks with its epic sounding drop), making #6 in early 1988,

And also in 80s dance music, I don't think this song is remembered much now, released in late 1985 and made #3 in early 1986. Definitely seems to have took Hi-NRG to a new energetic extreme with the production! ohmy.gif Sounds very dancey for late 1985 I think, and doesn't sound as poppy or cheesy as most 80s Hi-NRG imo.

Centipede - Rebbie Jackson.

Forgotten, but a massive bop, with Michael on backing vocals!

A #12 hit in 1984, this has a sort of epic operatic style, it kind of reminds me of dream trance a bit!
