27th May 2018
It's a second week on top for Woodkid 6 years on from the last time, what a cracking track it still is, witness it's use as backdrop to all manner of things without ever making the UK top 40. Panic! At The Disco get a second 2018 top 20, a second top 10 4 years on from Girl/Girl/Boy (or was it Boy/Boy/Girl? Gender fluid title.... ) and 6 years of entries. High Hopes is exciting. My latest car CD of new itunes tracks has a theme: strings dominate, headed by One Eskimo in at 9. I'm a sucker for strings, they give music gravitas when done right. Joan Baez' classic folk oldie from 1971 is back in the top 20, along with Propaganda's 1984 number 2, and Holland-Dozier's 1972 top 20 - it's chart run was cut chort back then as my charts were based solely on the UK top 30 singles chart and it only had a week or two in the UK chart (and mine). I was young.... London grammar return with a strings-laden haunting goodie, Rui Da Silva gets his second top 40 almost 2 decades late, Owl City is back with the best song ever to feature the state Montana in it's title. Possibly the only one... I'm seeing Beck tonight, supported by Sparks, so Colors is a refreshing return to form, Johnny Marr is also back sounding quite Smiths-ey, his guitar still rings beautifully, and gives him nearly 35 years of chart entries. 1 2 1 2 RUN BOY RUN Woodkid 285000 2 1 1 2 CHIQUITITA Abba 285000 3 NEW 3 1 HIGH HOPES Panic! Hi John!
Yay at Givin' Up so high! Two Niceland entries in the Top 10, I'm flattered Nice to see I Can't Stand It here - Blossoms' new material is some of their best yet! I heard High Five for the first time this afternoon, really hope it can become another hit for her! It's quite different from Strangers but good in its own way. Great chart |

Hey there popchartfreak
LOVING your current choice of #1! It is my second favourite BJSC winner ever, only behind the gorgeous D&B instrumental 'Cry For Freedom' by Jay Dabhi, sent by none other than Persephonia. It was nice to be reminded of it recently when a tap-dancing act used it as their audition song on Britain's Got Talent a couple of weeks ago. That aside, I also really like 'Delicate' from your top 10! The vocal effects remind me of Imogen Heap's in 'Hide and Seek' a bit. Really classy single from Taylor, shame that it's not making more waves over here in the chart. Lots of other good stuff too like Propaganda, Calvin Harris/Dua Lipa, Jonathan Bree, Ariana Grande, Kendrick feat. SZA and Liam Payne! |

Woodkid just never gets old for me, always fresh. Cry For Freedom was nice too. I wondered why Woodkid was charting on itunes again, thanks for solving the puzzle! Taylor Swift's single is the best track on the album, so a bit bizarre it's not happening! cheers! john |

Oh wow jealous you're seeing Foster The People, no chance of them ever turning up round these parts! Waylon is really convincingly country to my ears, quite an achievement for a Dutch bloke! You were robbed with Ary! I really get quite puzzled sometimes why some more subtle tracks dont get noticed in favour of more in-yer-face stuff that gets boring after a few listens. It's the Eurovision "instant" factor... cheers! john |
