Shawn Peter Raul Mendes, born 8 August 1998, is a Canadian singer and songwriter. He became popular by posting covers of songs on Vine in 2013, and the following year caught the attention of Andrew Gertler and Ziggy Chareton of Island Records; this led to him signing a deal with that label. Since then, he has released three studio albums and has announced his fourth, Wonder, to be released in December 2020. He has headlined three world tours and has received a number of awards.

Shawn released his self-titled debut EP in 2014, and released his debut studio album Handwritten in 2015. Stitches, the third single from Handwritten, reached #1 in the UK and top 10 in the US and Canada. He released his second studio album Illuminate in 2016. Treat You Better, the first single from the album, reached the top 10 in a number of countries, as well as third single There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back. His self-titled third studio album was released in 2018 and was supported by lead single In My Blood. All three albums debuted at #1 on the US Billboard 200, with Handwritten making Shawn one of five artsts ever to debut at #1 before the age of 18. The self-titled album made him the third-youngest artist to achieve three #1 albums. In 2017, Shawn became the first artist to land three #1 singles on the Billboard Adult Contemporary Chart before turning 20. In 2018, he became the first artist to achieve four #1 singles on the Adult Pop Songs Chart before the age of 20. In 2019, he released hit singles If I Can't Have You and Señorita (a collaboration with Camila Cabello). The latter peaked at #1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and in the UK. Now, Shawn gears up to release his fourth studio album Wonder on 4 December 2020, with the lead single of the same name having been released on 2 October 2020.

Among his accolades, Shawn has won 13 SOCAN awards, 10 MTV Europe Music Awards, 8 Juno awards, 8 iHeartRadio MMVAs, 2 American Music Awards, and he has also received 3 Grammy Award nominations. In 2018, Time named Shawn as one of the 100 most influential people in the world. Shawn is also the founder of The Shawn Mendes Foundation, giving voices to young people across the world, creating a platform for people to speak, and also supporting vulnerable young people.
