BuzzJack Music Forum _ Television _ The Weakest Link

Posted by: burbe 19th July 2017, 08:10 PM

The Sun is reporting that The Weakest Link is being revived for a Children In Need special this November, with talks of a full-time return in 2018 for Saturday nights (a celebrity version rather than civilian). Anne Robinson is due back also.

I used to enjoy The Weakest Link back in the day, so wouldn't mind seeing it back!

Would you like to see it back?

Posted by: awardinary 19th July 2017, 08:26 PM

No, it's had it's time. Move on to a new concept please. huh.gif

Posted by: danG 19th July 2017, 10:03 PM

omg YES.

Posted by: No Sleeep 19th July 2017, 10:06 PM

YAS. I was obsessed with the PS2 game laugh.gif

I loved The Weakest Link! I'd love to see this come back. Used to get SO pissed off when people didn't say 'bank' laugh.gif

Omg YES, I was saying to my housemate earlier we need more quizzes like that and The Chase. The fast paced ones you can play along with that feel really rewarding but easy to watch and get hooked on laugh.gif I love the format, I think it's the sort of fun entertainment we need on a Saturday night now that talent shows have somewhat burned themselves out and it's hard for new ones to get off the ground. It would 100% have to be Anne back though, she IS the show.

Posted by: danG 20th July 2017, 10:27 AM

definitely. they should axe Tipping Point and replace it with The Weakest Link (I know they're on different channels but let me dream).

Posted by: awardinary 20th July 2017, 10:44 AM

While they're at it they might as well bring back Deal Or No Deal. laugh.gif

Posted by: pippa 20th July 2017, 02:04 PM

I always enjoyed the Weakest Link, one of the best quiz shows. Ann was legendary on it with some of her comments.

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 20th July 2017, 02:40 PM

I'd love to see it back, but wouold rather have normal people than celebs sad.gif

Posted by: jase. 20th July 2017, 03:15 PM

omg YES. I need Anne Robinson back in my life.

Posted by: Liаm 20th July 2017, 03:22 PM

I think celebs suit a Saturday night quiz show a bit more, it makes it more light hearted and it's nice they compete for charity etc., whereas daytime is a bit more tense and something to escape to after work or school or whatever.

Yasss The Weakest Link was iconic, would love to see it back.

Exactly this!!! Especially in the 1st round if they get to £1000 and the person forgets. Happened once and they got it right and it was ok but another time it happened and they got it wrong. drama.gif

THIS! Nobody is here for Babushka or Red or Black or (to a lesser extent) Tipping Point, I just want a show like The Chase and this where you can shout out the answers laugh.gif I don't know WHY they think a complex format is going to draw in viewers when literally people only watch it to play along (and a bit of banter with Anne and the contestants laugh.gif)

Posted by: burbe 17th November 2017, 10:16 PM

I'm so glad they gave this a full proper episode. Iconic! It's on BBC Two right now if anyone's interested tongue.gif

Absolutely HOWLED throughout the whole episode, forgotten just how much I loved it. Please can it come back, even for a series of celeb specials as rumoured!

Posted by: THEO. 17th November 2017, 11:58 PM

It's pretty clear from tonight's special that the formula would still work as well as it did if they were to commision a full series. Absolutely loved Anne's banter as always!

I loved the Weakest Link when it was on, although as the years went on and it became like a piece of furniture on the schedules I fell away from watching it. Having been off TV for 4 or so years, the one-off special was quite nice, although if they decide to bring it back they'll need to make sure it doesn't fall into the same trap in being shown all the time.

Also, I notice on the celebrity special that Anne was much slower in reading the questions than in the past, so unsure if there was a new series whether she'd continue as host. Given how paramount she is to the series, it would be strange trying to find someone who can sling barbs as effectively as her as host. Although someone suggested that Judge Rinder would make an excellent host, which I couldn't disagree with.

not watched it yet, but perhaps they could scrap Fifteen To One and get the woman from there to do Weakest Link?

This is my exact thoughts! By the end of its run, it was so tiring and I began to groan whenever it was on. I'm starting (only just!) to feel the same way about Pointless, which of course became the replacement for The Weakest Link.

I was very excited to watch this though and would welcome it returning in the form of a limited series. I would just hope that they get smarter celebrities next time because some of the answers last night were woeful and embarrassing. I don't think the questions have ever been easier yet North is apparently opposite of East on a compass and water is made up of acid. Plus, not getting Terry Wogan when you're on a show for Children in Need is just shameful.

The concept is really strong though and Anne was incredible. I would worry about doing it without her, in response to Dan, Sandi is far too nice for the show!!

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Witches mellow.gif So Kem is as thick as he looks...

Loved the episode though, we really need a full series!

Water being composed of Hydrogen and Acid though mellow.gif

The Sun is reporting that The Weakest Link is finally coming back for the revived celebrity series, this time with Romesh Ranganathan as host!

I had a feeling it would come back since the recent US revival went fairly well. Romesh is an interesting choice as host.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 27th June 2021, 09:39 PM

That's a great choice!

Posted by: Botchia 28th June 2021, 08:57 AM

Now confirmed by the BBC! It's a 12-part series that has been ordered.

Posted by: Brett-Butler 28th June 2021, 09:13 AM

I’ve been watching past episodes of The Weakest Link in Challenge recently and realised looking back just how cruel Anne Robinson was in some of her remarks to contestants, which made me think that there would be no way to revive this show in 2021, and if they did it would have to be someone who can engage in gentle ribbing without crossing over to downright cruelty. I thought that Robert Rinder would be the ideal person to fit that purpose, but it’ll be interesting to see how different the show is with Romesh Ranganathan.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 28th June 2021, 10:00 AM

There was a video doing the rounds on twitter a while ago from an episode in which Anne was making fun of a mother for being single, it was very uncomfortable to watch!

Posted by: Gezza 28th June 2021, 10:40 AM

There's an interview with Anne Robinson on the BBC website today where she talks about being the host of "Countdown" but also reflects on the "Weakest Link" and how it couldn't be made now in the same way which is interesting.

Posted by: Suedehead2 3rd July 2021, 09:58 PM

She's been doing some gentle teasing on Countdown but nothing like her Weakest Link barbs.

Posted by: spiceboy 4th July 2021, 11:02 AM

If they do it they just need to get Anne back. Why do they always have to re-do it with some celebrity host?

Posted by: Dot Branning 12th July 2021, 04:24 PM

Great that the format is coming back, i've loved watching some of the re-runs on Challenge for the nostalgia.

The sniping at the contestants aspect is obviously going to be incredibly toned down for the 2021 audience.

Posted by: Sausage Rollo 28th December 2021, 11:19 PM

Matt Allwright correctly answered every question he was asked on today's show. Very impressive. clap.gif

Posted by: Iceman501 28th December 2021, 11:59 PM

I wonder if anyone has ever got every question correct on the Weakest Link throughout the whole show?

Posted by: Jingle Bell Dot 29th December 2021, 02:32 PM

I saw one of the celeb ones the other day. I think some of the format changes are a great idea like the picture on tablet questions and the money increasing further in later rounds and it was a decent quiz. But I did feel that Anne's acid tongued sniping at the contestants was missing, however much it might not work today I feel that was a big part of what made the show unique.

CJ de Mooi (former Egghead) did that and was voted off in the final round as the others clearly knew they would lose to him in the final. He wasn't pleased.

I'm enjoying the revival but, as much as I like Romesh, I don't think he's fully made the role his own yet. If there's another series, hopefully he'll settle into the host role a bit more.

Incidentally, yesterday's edition had 4.2m viewers in the ratings and was the most watched show of the day! I can definitely see it coming back since it hasn't collapsed after its launch alongside the Strictly final.
