Well I've just discovered an article on BBC about a new racing series called 'Formula E' that begins this weekend in Beijing. It's the first ever fully-electric racing series and has some very unique features. It's a 10-race season that culminates in a London street race next June. All practice, qualifying and race sessions will happen on the same day and the approximately 45-minute long race will include on mandatory pit stop as the driver will need to switch to a new fully charged car! There are 20 drivers in 10 teams, including many former F1 drivers, and "to immerse fans into the world of Formula E they will play music during the event and have a 'fanboost', where three drivers with the most social media votes will have the power of their cars increased from 133kw to 200kw prior to the race so that they can use a 'boost' of 90hp during the proceedings." It all sounds very crazy but very interesting. It is being shown here in the UK on ITV4 on Saturday morning so I think I'm going to give it a watch! I'm looking forward to seeing this too. Glad that ITV4 have got it.
Has the potential to be quite exciting hopefully. |

So my man Heidfeld almost won that race.. There was huge crash between him and Nico Prost in the final corner..
Nick was behind Nico who was in the lead, and Nico just moved into Heidfeld when Hei started to overtake him.. |

Didn't imagine there would be a thread on this, will transfer from my F1 post...
It was quite enjoyable overall, not a huge amount of action but with the cars so similar and on street circuits that was always fairly likely, enough to keep me interested in it though, even before the shunt. So gutted for Nick, deserved to win it A shame it's over 2 months to the next race. The full line-up: VIRGIN Sam Bird Jaime Alguersuari MAHINDRA Karun Chandhok Bruno Senna DRAGON Oriol Servia Jerome d'Ambrosio E.DAMS RENAULT Nicolas Prost Sebastien Buemi TRULLI Jarno Trulli Michela Cerruti AUDI ABT Lucas di Grassi Daniel Abt VENTURI Nick Heidfeld Stephane Sarrazin ANDRETTI Franck Montagny Charles Pic AMLIN AGURI Takuma Sato Katherine Legge CHINA Ho-Pin Tung Nelson Piquet Jr. |

I watched some of this. It was very whiny, it pretty much sounded like a huge scalextric. Which I guess it is.

That crash between Prost and Heidfeld was quite terrifying, especially the way that the Venturi seemed to fall apart but it was very pleasing to see Heidfeld walk away from the accident. I doubt we'll see those massive curbs in future races after the way that car was launched into the air, Prost definitely deserves a penalty for the next race as that was completely his fault in my eyes.
Overall, I enjoyed watching the race and the crash at the end definitely gave it that something extra - and also the press coverage that the series needs. I definitely think there is potential, and a few things do need changing slightly such as making the graphics clearer, simpler and more regular; making the music louder as it sounded a bit empty at some points; and making the pit lane/car change sequence a bit easier to follow with some real-time graphics rather than just a summary of the pit lane times once it has happened. But yes I definitely see potential in this and I'm sure things will be "tidied up" with regards to the coverage as the season progresses as I remember it took F1 a bit of time to get their graphics properly working when they changed to the new graphics a few years ago. |

Nicolas Prost has been given a 10-place grid penalty for the next race which isn't until the end of November. A big crash indeed especially like Ryan said with how the Venturi seemed to fall apart. Glad that Heidfeld was fine. He started from 17th, Heidfeld did. Prost sort of veered to the left.
Early days yet. Hoping this isn't another A1 GP. |

10 places back is a VERY light penalty considering what he did and his interview afterwards where he actually put all the blame on Heidfeld.
making the music louder Are you serious? I found the music terribly annoying, they need to get rid of that ASAP, IMO. And the 10-minute warm up lap was ridiculous. |

Haha, well one of the key points they seemed to make about this series was that we, as well as the spectators at the track, would get a unique musical soundtrack during the race so if that's the case, then we need to be able to hear the music properly. But I'd prefer either louder music or no music at all to what we had on Saturday. It wasn't too big a deal though. |

I felt it was quite an exciting race although there is now a 2 month break until the next race in Miami. |

Yep, fantastic race! So much drama at the front, I couldn't quite believe it!
Formula E is definitely succeeding in creating end-of-race drama every race with the likes of the Heidfeld/Prost crash in Beijing, Senna's crash in Putrajaya, Vergne's car stopping in Punta del Este and now Heidfeld's drive thru and di Grassi's crash (amongst other things!) in Buenos Aires. |

Tonight the Miami race on ITV4 from 7pm.
Hopefully will be just as exciting as the opening four races of the season. Jean-Eric Vergne on pole for the race. |

Formula E back on Saturday with it taking place at Monte Carlo. Could they have their seventh different winner in as many races?
Anyone going to watch on Saturday? |

ITV4 will be showing the qualifying and race live. They haven't shown the qualifying at all this season. So this will the first time that they've shown qualifying live.

Did anyone see the Formula E race at Monaco?
With this crash at the start: Another win for Buemi who breaks the chain of different winners in as many races. |
