I'd completely forgotten that sports were beginning before the opening ceremony (thanks Iz for bringing it up in N&P and so reminding me!) - womens softball starts tomorrow, the first match being Australia v Japan at 1am. Don't think I'll be staying up to watch it sadly!
First victory went to the hosts this morning - all the first matches are Fukushima Stadium for the softball, very good morale boost for the Japanese at least (though my stereotypes are telling me they and the USA should be dominating baseball/softball anyway).
Schedule
01:00 Softball Preliminary USA v CAN
04:00 Softball Preliminary MEX v JPN
07:00 Softball Preliminary ITA v AUS
Certainly a good start for Japan to have the first victory of the tournament! Didn't realise there were only 6 nations taking part though - looks like it could very well get them an early medal.
Good to see Team GB get off to a good start in the hockey! South Africa getting those two yellow card timeouts really seemed to cost them.
5 men Argentina knock out South Africa in the rugby sevens in a massive shock.
Great Britain came back from 21-0 down to beat USA 26-21 in the quarter-finals.
Great comeback for the rugby team against the USA! A medal is looking very likely for them now.
Forget what I said as they finished fourth A shame for them, although great to see Fiji retain their title!
Saw a bit of the 3x3 basketball as well, not surprised to see USA win the women's tournament but Latvia felt like a bit of a surprise for the men's! Well done to them.
First time I've seen a bit of handball since London 2012!, Tuned in to see on BBC One, Sweden v France.
England's rugby ladies suffer the same fate as the men, losting the Bronze medal match Massive well done to the Fijian women for the first ever female medal for their country.
Also the rugby was worth watching purely for this interview!
