ABBA’s best hits album “ABBA Gold: Greatest Hits”, has reached a massive milestone in the UK this week. But what is the milestone, you may ask? It’d is the first album to ever spend 1,000 weeks in the UK Albums Chart Top 100. This week, it has climbed 6 places to #17. During its run, it has spent:

-8 weeks at number 1
-61 weeks in the top 10
-127 weeks in the top 20
-365 weeks in the top 40
-722 weeks in the top 75
-1,000 weeks in the top 100

Not bad for an album that my local Co-Op was selling from the bargain bin in 1995 or 1996 for £1.99 to get rid of excess stock.

There are 2 additional weeks that the album spent between 76 to 100 which are not in the OCC database and which may get added at some point. The two chart dates are 22/05/93 - 77 and 05/02/94 - 77 (again). The OCC only have a top 75 Albums chart in the archive from 13/04/91 to 05/02/94. It is also the same for the singles chart between the two dates, the archive contains only a top 75. The OCC did state when the archive went live a number of years ago that the missing 76-100 positions for both singles and albums between these dates would be added at some point. It's likely that won't now happen given how long it has been since the archive was first added.

It was £5 for years in all the supermarkets. Not sure if it still is.

I wish more people would buy More Abba Gold. Contains the great The Day Before You Came, Angel Eyes, So Long, Ring Ring, Honey Honey, I Do I Do I Do I Do. The smaller hits and choice album tracks.

Worth noting that it has spent 306 weeks in the Album Sales Top 100, which was only introduced in March 2015 (when streaming was incorporated into the official chart). At that stage it had spent 699 weeks in the official chart, so had it continued to be a sales only chart, ABBA Gold would actually have reached the milestone 5 weeks earlier. Just in case anyone was under the impression that it's one of those albums that only continues to chart high because of the individual tracks being streamed from playlists.

On an unrelated note, congratulations also to Mabel for High Expectations reaching its 100th week on the chart basil.gif

To put this milestone into context though, how many other albums have spent 1000+ weeks in the Top 100?

The whole point of the article is that it's the 1st time it happens (I think)

Yep they're the first, the closest behind is Bob Marley & The Wailers' Legend currently on 984 weeks, while Queen's 1981 Greatest Hits is on 952 weeks.

20 years on the album chart is a massive achievement, but i also thing More Abba Gold is as good.

There are a few more albums that will surely reached 1000 weeks at some point, Queen GH, Rumours, and Bob Marley's Legend.

But Abba will always be the first.

Oops, I completely missed the word "first" in the OP kink.gif for some reason I thought a couple of others albums had already done it!

As mentioned above (and in this week's commentary), Queen's Greatest Hits and Legend will get there within the next year. Rumours is just short of 900 weeks.

Of course, there is always the possibility that the OCC will change the rules.

So 'Rumours' could be the first studio album to do so... (although it's essentially a greatest hits in itself!) impressive!
