001 Elbow 'One Day Like This' (21-01-01-01-01-01-01-01-03-05-06-09-14-16-16-10-13-15-15-20-23-24-24-27-32-26-38-37-37-35-37*)
![]() Well it's not really a shock is it? 6 weeks at number one, a record breaking 31 in my top 40 (so far!) and off the album I said was possibly my favourite ever. The song needs no introduction, I'm sure everyone's heard it, whether on the radio, through hype after winning the Mercury, or one one of the many TV shows it's been used as a soundtrack to (Euro 2008, the Olympics, Big Brother...). I've never really been an Elbow fan but this completely changed my opinion of them. It's dramtic, it's emotional, it's epic. It's also over 6 1/2 minutes in length and it never feels like it's lasted long enough. This song became my soundtrack to the summer, then autumn, and now winter. Bands should use orchestra's for this type of sound far more often. This song is (despite what last.fm says) by far my most played song of the year with well over twice the amount of plays than anything else. To sum up how much I love this song compared to everything else I think I should use iTunes-style popularity bars for my top 5. llllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll lllllllllllllllllllll Elbow llllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll M83 lllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll Camille llllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll Last Shadow Puppets lllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll Mystery Jets |

008 PNAU ft Ladyhawke 'Embrace' (04-03-01-01-04-06-04-05-07-11-13-19-26-37) ![]() I first came across this in the summer, I knew of Ladyhawke but I'd never heard of Australian dance act PNAU. As much as I love Ladyhawke I think this is much better than anything that appears on here debut album, it's a fantastic anthem and is crying out to be a massive hit. Choon. GORGEOUS track. I'm actually ashamed that I considered it unworthy of points in X ![]() |

A truly great read (as I expected).
![]() About your Year End #1, the only thing that stops me completely loving the track (why it just failed to make my Year End Top 10) is because it is clearly an attempt at writing an anthemic McCartney Beatle anthem, and hence I keep wanting to sing "Naaaa Na Na na-na-na-naaa. Na-na-na-naaa Hey Jude" over the outro. |

A poor number one, in my opinion, but other great tracks in your top 10 make up for it. M83 are, as always, fantastic, as well as Camille. Gotta love Digitalism (though that song is 2007 for me) and PNAU as well.
