I didn't watch Tess. Kieran hates those kind of programmes and I didn't want to watch it upstairs on the little TV. We did watch some of the Bowie Last Five Years though and then reluctantly turned over to watch Taboo. Both of which were excellent.

Good ratings for both Let in Shine and the Voice though. 6m each.

I taped Bowie Laura, looking forward to watching it . I saw Taboo advertised & should have taped but I have taped so much at this stage I am not getting a chance to catch up

Posted by: Sydney11 8th January 2017, 05:15 PM

Ratings were good for both, it is a shame that they are on at similar times ,

Do you sometimes watch channels from other countries? Or do they not offer this in the UK? I can watch BBC, German, French, Italian and even Arab stations and obviously CNN aside of teh Dutch programs and find it quite interesting to zap through them. I cannot remember though when I watched the last movie entirely on TV because a lackof time :-)

Only news stations Elisabeth, depends on the package you have with your service provider. Were you able to watch LIS or did you bother

If I could afford the stations package that includes BBC America, I'd definitely be watching Doctor Who and the Graham Norton Show......

Razorlight famously sung "Nothing on the TV, nothing on the radio that means that much to me". They maybe weren't right about the radio but I definitely agree about TV. Only occasionally is there anything on that I like much.

I often watch BBC and also some bits of let it shine, I am not that impressed, only because I dislike the formats of all the casting shows. I would only watch if Rob would be a judge. I like Gary more these days though. And I watch a lot of German and CNN news. I think the BBC news are still good compared to others.
Well this said I never really watch TV it is more running when I am at home. The last I really watched was Westworld.
This gives you a lot to think.
And...watching different country's news programs make you witness how much manipulation is on more than anything else.

You are welcome in here at any time Lindse , we do waffle a lot because a lot of the time there is nothing happening & anyway it's nice to talk about other stuff as well even if it's a load of rubbish. I have only started to post here when TRWS stopped (Do you have still contacts with Susie and Jackie,Laura and Syd?) which was a very harmonic forum with arguments about our main topic in a positive spirit. I miss the discussion bits on FB and the especially friendly admosphere. Sometimes you want the world and your popstar pink. This has somehow been transferred to this thread by Syd and Laura and her nice way and informative and constructive way to write. Being from Holland it is sometimes a bit difficult to express the idea behind the thoughts to native ENglish speakers.
I sometimes read the UK chart forum of buzzjack and the predictions. I always thought that this is something like the officalcharts and the threads are the corners for the fans?
So this is not correct? I agree that Laura and Syd are a positive contribution anywhere :-)

I'm a very VERY minor RW fan.....and I'm from across the pond....had someone many many moons ago send me a cd of about 12 or so RW choons that they liked, as a return kindness for a cd I sent them, a cd with a song that made her dad cry as he sung along to that particular song in Irish....she were right moved by it, seeing her dad cry as he sung along...I spout off now and again in The Lounge here at BJ, but I post more in the Sports forum these days...rarely in the Retro forum and rarely in the TT forum, too....

I think it's fun waffling here in the RW forum....keeps you ladies and occasional gents on your toes wondering what I'm going to post next... wink.gif wink.gif

Anyway we need new members it gets quite quiet now the Lounge's megaspammer Princess Lotita is now at university and working and not on Buzzjack as much as a result.

It was about Laundry and then literal laundry then alligators then Alycia Debnam Carey, so much lovely waffle. Anyway it can be the Laundry duo's special place to post some great waffle on the Lounge. cheer.gif

What does 'oic' mean?

Thanks Sydney biggrin.gif . Lindsey proposed I changed it to a pic of Alycia Debham Carey as her and The Bright Places have her in their signatures. So she can become iconic on Buzzjack. I have never seen any.of her programmes.

Did you enjoy posting on the Lounge? Laundry will become big stars there I think biggrin.gif

No idea what 'oic' means SGH unsure.gif , must have been a typo

I have heard of Alycia Debham Carey but have never seen her on tv, I am more a Star Trek fan myself tongue.gif

I enjoyed posting in the Lounge but I go through phases of sometimes posting loads & if I am busy work wise the flow can be slow cool.gif

I am not sure it's for me though because I do get the impression that a lot of the posters are very young ( not their fault laugh.gif as being one of the oldies not being my fault mellow.gif ) so would find it hard to covert the lingo used into something I would understand laugh.gif

I did say it was out of my league from the beginning but we will see how it goes, either way it's nice to know who people are on other areas of the forum so thank you for the intro friends.gif

It doesn't matter about age, don't let that alienate you, we have popchartfreak there and he is older too smile.gif

It doesn't matter about lingo much, just ask and posters will explain. Sometimes I don't understand terms on Buzzjack either laugh.gif

Wherever you and Laura post on Buzzjack (and I do hope you occasionally post on The Lounge but it is up to you) I will always be a fan of Laundry biggrin.gif

Ah, yes....original Mission:Impossible was top stuff back in the day...I vaguely recall it when it originally aired back in the 60's, and the reruns....

Time Tunnel, Land of the Giants, Lost In Space.....oy what shows...

Also remember a bunch of Sid & Marty Kroft shows like 'The Bugaloos', 'Sigmund the Sea Monster', 'HR Puffnstuff", 'Lidsville".....

And who could forget 'The Banana Splits', along with its 'show within the show' Danger Island, starring a very young Jan Michael Vincent..... rolleyes.gif rolleyes.gif rolleyes.gif

Did you watch Taboo tonight Tess? (that sounded like a tongue twister laugh.gif )

It was a bit too gruesome for me tonight. I had to make a cup of tea halfway through. (won't say anymore in case you haven't seen it yet)

It's the last one next week. Part of me is quite grateful for that. wacko.gif

Another new series tonight - SS-GB. Looks promising. Takes place in 1941 after the Nazi's won the Battle of Britain. blink.gif

It's a Len Deighton book apparently. Chilling scenario.

There's gruesome & then there's gruesome , I watched through my fingers but it was all a bit repulsive , too repulsive actually which kinda spoilt it for me

Anyway cannot wait for next week to see what happens & who gets their comeuppance

The new series SS-GB looks promising , I wonder if he gets to the school on time sad.gif

Taboo - also it was making me claustrophobic just watching him in that iron mask. unsure.gif

SS-GB - I noticed the mumbling/bad sound quality and Ian Hyland mentioned it today on Twitter. We had to turn the volume up to bloody hear what they were saying. huh.gif

I'd say it was a satisfactory ending.

Season two was better than one IMO - they're not at all related Tess other than having the same lead characters in them. I really enjoyed the latest series.

Don't really watch Sky so don't know about Blindspot.

Not everyone's cup of tea I know but I've been watching a series on Iplayer called "The Nazi's -a warning from history".

It's in five parts and was first shown in 1997. It's very detailed and shows the circumstances at the time that allowed them to come to power and how events evolved over the period between the end of the first world war and the end of the second world war. Such a short period of time for such cataclysmic events to happen. (Only 27 years).

I'm up to part four of five.

It's absolutely fascinating if you're a history geek like me. Chilling too.

I love history as well Laura, I knew it was on but did not get time to watch it. Do people learn from history or do they quickly forget . Not so long ago I met a girl who told me she visited one of the concentration while on vacation & was not sure if the whole thing had actually happened & that it could have been all propaganda , needless to say I was left speechless . You can never underestimate people & what they will believe at any given time.

And there's such a danger in that. As time goes on and people directly involved pass away, then the reality of it dims and it becomes more of a "story" than factual evidence. The stupidity of people never fails to amaze me Tess and no some people don't learn from history because they don't want to. So I believe it could absolutely happen again. Well some of it is happening again now isn't it.

I want to visit one of the concentration camps too. I might go on my own. I understand it's not something many people want to do but I believe you can't learn unless you witness.

Anyway Sorry if a bit heavy for a Sunday morning and not appropriate for on here. I'll move on now. It's on I player if you do want to catch up Tess.

When I saw him again on Graham Norton last Friday - even though now he is an old man of 80 - he still had that lovely soft voice and he was still very charming and obviously a smart, intelligent man.

Sometimes - although physical beauty fades, the inside remains beautiful.

There seems to be a move away from "old school" politicians all over the world. I've no idea whether that's a good thing or a bad thing. unsure.gif

No I do not watch Car Share Laura, Peter Kay reminds me of Mrs Brown which I cannot stand, why does Mrs Brown have such a huge foillowing wacko.gif

I like Mrs Brown - not the chat show format, the original sitcom format although he doesn't always hit the right button. Can just be smutty without being funny.

I love Peter Kay though. Funny, witty and so smart in his observations - good actor.

Brend O Caroll ( aka Mrs Brown ) is King of smut, it's the main reason I do not like him , never did .... he is terribly generous with his money though, gives tons to charity

No, I've never watched it Elisabeth. It's just finding the time to watch all this stuff really. We've got Netflix but I'm not sure it's worthwhile for one movie on a Saturday night. rolleyes.gif

We're now watching series one of Line of Duty on Netflix. It's good but not as good as the series just finished (Series 4).

Don't know why we never watched it originally. Must have just missed it I guess.

Ooooooooh blink.gif that was a close shave for Alexandra , I cannot believe how agile Debbie Magee is , she must have done ballet at some stage to be able to get moves like that . only a few weeks left so it will be interesting to see who gets through to the Semi final, at the mo I am guessing Alexandra, Debbie & Davood & not too sure on the others as they are all about even when it comes to their dancing talents , I still think its a disgrace that Aston is gone & he can only blame Janette for that totally wrong routine in their last dance says ' I the expert ' laugh.gif

Correct me if I'm wrong but on finals night isn't it only members of the public who can vote?

You are right Laura so it's important the right couples get to the final. I like them getting there on merit, Joe & Davood are both very good dancers & Joe has a very good personality which goes a long way in a competition like this . Gemma's dance was a bit peculiar on Saturday night, I could get the concept but not sure of the judges understood

LOVED this season of Strictly - best one yet I think.

I realised that I just sat on the sofa and smiled at the whole thing.

They were all really good. Hubby voted for Gemma again happy.gif but I'm really pleased Joe won. He's a worthy winner.

I feel kind of sorry for Alexandra. She was the best technically every single week. She must know that she has lost because the public didn't vote for her. That can't be a very nice feeling..... wacko.gif

I used to watch Strictly with my mum. She loved to watch the British version. Since she died I could not watch it anymore for some reason. Alexandra Burke, hasn't she once won the x-factor?

Posted by: Sydney11 17th December 2017, 10:13 AM

I was delighted for Joe , Katya had the best choreography throughout the whole series I thought .

I thought Gemma was lovely , she had the right attitude & that was to thoroughly enjoy the experience & not worry about winning

Alexandra & Debbie are really good dancers in their own right , really loved some of their routines & I loved Mollie, I thought she was a lovely girl but the nerves got to her but she did great

Yes, Alexandra did win the XFactor Elisabeth, not sure what she does now, musical theatre I think . Not sure why the fans did not like her, she lost her Mum , was she not entitled to get upset when she genuinely felt it , some folk on the web are so annoying , one of the downfalls of Social media I guess, some folk are vindictive & cold hearted .

I can understand how Strictly can make you feel sad Elisabeth especially when you used to watch it with your Mum , it's like hearing a particular song on the radio that gets you in the heart everytime as it reminds you of certain people or certain events

It's just got better and better Elisabeth as the years have gone on. I thought it wouldn't be as good without Bruce Forsyth or this year without Len Goodman but it is. The format is so joyful and genuinely everyone is looking out for each other and trying so hard. It's impossible not to get caught up in it. The standard this year has been amazing. cool.gif

McMafia started on BBC1 tonight, it's really good smile.gif

We watched part two. Very good although I don't think we've completely picked up the storyline yet.

We'll carry on with it now though.

I have been watching Miriam Margoyles on BBC1 ( Big American Adventure ) ...apart from her colourful language she is quite good

We've watched bits of it.

I like her. She's very individual.

She was never going to persuade the Trump supporters was she. smile.gif

We have Dancing With The Stars on here at the mo, I really miss the live band like they have with Strictly , it's just not the same . the music on SCD justs fill the room & really adds to the atmosphere , DWTS is a bit flat I find. Anyways there is a guy on the show called Bernard O Shea who is a comedian , not great dancer but good fun so I guess people will vote for him for a couple of weeks anyway, here is a copy of a letter he received from a fan, I thought it was really sweet & funny wub.gif ( he is going to write back to her )

We watched Endevour tonight so not seen McMafia finale yet. Watched Hot Sun finale last night and didn't have a clue what was going on dry.gif I do wonder if it's me but half these story lines I find so complicated rolleyes.gif

I saw the one with Martin Kemp. he started out so confident , was not long in coming back down to earth . He was better than poor Nick though , if you see that one come up on repeat you just have to watch it , I think wasted about 23 eggs trying to get the mix right, then Paul mixed it for him & Nick still managed to make a dogs dinner of it . Nick is so funny , such a lovely gentleman with a great sense of humour . That show is such a simple format , I hope they raise loads of money.

Gosh - we don't have anything like that in our attic. unsure.gif

They had something similar on the Antiques Road trip programme recently. One of the celebrity antiques guy bought a little bureau containing lotions and potions from Georgian times for a few quid and it sold for over Ł20,000. What was nice is that any profit they make goes to charity so they were able to make loads that week.

Laura. Are you able to get catch up on that BBC4 Panorama prog on Jeremy Thorpe...it is really worth watching

You have to admire Norman Scott for his tenacity & not letting JT get away with it...hard to believe that JT was very nearly Home Secretary & in charge of MI5 , can you imagine what would have happened to Norman . I was fascinated by JT's second wife Marion, she stood by him through thick & thin even knowing he was dabbling elsewhere angel.gif

This programme was made 40 years ago & only updated & released now

I definitely will be watching it Tess although not sure when. I would normally say at the weekend but I'm away. I love stuff like that. Love all kind of history. I can remember all that happening in real time although I couldn't remember how it all ended. I didn't think he ended up in jail. He was bloody lucky if you ask me. Talk about old boys network.

Did you see the Lucy Worsley programme on the Suffragettes tonight? Another excellent programme. What those women went through. sleep.gif

Could it be so do with all this art work he has been doing unsure.gif I would have thought any FX announcements would not come from him directly but from the XF ITV camp ,

Anyway I still do not believe it & I do not think the role will do him any favours ...just my personal opinion, I could be proven wrong happy.gif

I think too that an x-factor announcement will be done by ITV.
When do they start again?
What is however special is that I see no other names for this job in the press in the moment.
Rob declined the reality shpw with a no.He did not do it with the x-factor.
The Tuesday might be another surprise.

One of my all time favourites is One Foot in the Grave . Brilliantly written by David Renwick.

Amy & Danny voted off last night , what was going on with them, it seems Danny was difficult to work with , I do not think the voting public liked what they were hearing, it was mentioned it briefly on BBC news this morning , it's a shame as I really loved Danny as a dancer & thought he could have made the final. I think he might have found some of the dances difficult & took it out on Amy , surely he knew that you cannot be great at everything

Ashley must be feeling upset being in the bottom two for two weeks running when she's such an able dancer.

In fairness I think she know that she is recognised as a really good dancer which she truly is but being from outside of the UK does not help , she has a nice attitude but in her heart I think she knows the writing is on the wall unless a miracle happens

AJ definitely to go tonight. My order of how I think they will finish in the final next week:

4. Joe

I think because she felt so much pain, she could put that soulfulness into her singing. Goodbye to Love with that amazing guitar solo. My favourite is I Need to Be In Love. Very sad lyrics. sleep.gif

She couldn't get the one thing she needed most of all & that was peace of mind , it was all so sad . Richard was totally addicted to presciption drugs but managed to get help , there was no help for Karen because she could not see that she was ill

Watched Greatest Dancer on BBC 1 last night, did nothing for me , Simon Cowell is involved in this one

Enjoyed The Voice on ITV , liked the girl trio, thought they were good & a bit different to the norm

I'm not interested in either of those two.

Really enjoyed The Manhunt tonight. True story. Martin Clunes excellent.
