Let's get some discussion going on the Brit Awards this year.
I'm sure the nominations are right around the corner, so lets get discussing.
- Can they finally break that pop group curse and bag a Best British Group award?
- Will 'Sweet Melody' be considered for Best British Single? Usually the top 10 best selling British singles (capped at 1 per lead artist) of the year are eligible - so SM would miss, but with the extension and this year being postponed, Idk what will happen
- Will they perform?
- Will Jesy actually launch her solo career there?
I don't know who else will be up for Best British Group Icr if The 1975 released a new album this year or not lmao. I think they did so... UGHHHH.
My fingers are crossed for 'Sweet Melody' making it, but we shall see.
Would LOVE a performance of 'Sweet Melody' on the BRITS to go with their trilogy and it'd be good exposure for them as a 3-piece and would cast away any doubts with the public who maybe think "they're not as strong without Jesy" etc..
I'm not sure about Jesy launching her solo career there, but it would be huge exposure for her.
I'd absolutely LOVE a Sweet Melody performance at the Brits!
I'd particularly love for the girls to become the first girl group to win best british group! They really deserve it!
I'd love to see Jesy perform but I can't see her performing - plus I don't think she'd perform at the same event the other girls are performing at - unless it is all pre-recorded performances!
I'd just hate all the headlines to be Jesy v Little Mix!
They'll get a nom for Best Group- hopefully album too? It wasn't the *best* album of the year, but I mean if Anne-Marie bagged a nomination they should be able to (Realistically Glory Days should've gotten a nom as it was eligible and was massive but..)
If they extend the eligibility I can see them getting a Best Single nom, and if they bring back Best Video they'd bag that nomination too for Sweet Melody, and probs win it.
If the above happened the only one they truly deserve to win is Best Group, groups can't be nominated in consecutive years so they'll be up against The 1975 again and Gorillaz I believe? London Grammar will be another one they're against.
The Brits use them for promo and tweets every single year and always do them so dirty, they definitely deserve to win it this year (well they deserved the last 2 nominations too but..)
A woman has not been involved in the winning group since 1987 when Five Star won. Little Mix winning would not only be massive and monumental for what female groups can achieve but also for what women of colour can achieve. The Brits would be very stupid to award a group of white men again after the year we've had surrounding diversity and representation. (Also besides that Little Mix deserve it the most out of any current UK group just for their talent/acclaim/success)
As for the performance, would love a remake of the Sweet Melody video, or a medley of hits! We are long overdue a Little Mix medley at an awards show.
Oh a medley would be great! A medley of Wings into Black Magic into Shout Out into Touch into Sweet Melody... *.*
I wouldn't mind them having a big surprise collaboration either. I wish the BRITS would focus on them again! They were always a huge success! Kylie/Justin, Rihanna/Klaxons & Florence/Dizzee etc..
I say a Best Group nom is pretty much in the bag (hopefully a win too..!) but i would also love to see Sweet Melody grab a best single nomination if possible!
I really want the brits to bring back the ‘Best Video’ category as i definitely agree that Sweet Melody would probably have a big chance on winning that..
The girls deserve the best group award more than ever right now.. especially after such a big year (#1 single, Top 2 album with very impressive sales and a TV show etc etc..)
The noms will probably be announced next month, right?
Would love them to perform!
Nominations announced next Wednesday, fingers crossed for a few nominations 🤞
Hoping for:
Best group
British Single?
Video (if it's still a thing)
And a performance
I genuinely can't think of another UK group that has had the year they had. It would be justice if they won best group but I won't hold my breath.
What we should be getting at the least;
Best Group
What I want as well if they extend the criteria-
Best Single
And bring back Best Video too. Best Album nom would be cute as well since most of the noms are always like subpar albums with big sales, Dua will win this year though, it's just nice to see their name up there.
I find the Brits so hard to call but best group nomination has to be in the bag.
If they still can't win Best Group with three hit singles (one of them being number 1), a hit album, a TV show and Jesy's departure being one of the biggest entertainment stories of the year plus rolling into their tenth year as a girl group then I genuinely can't see it ever happening. There's nothing else they can do at this point. They have every box ticked to win.
I think I’m right in saying this but if the girls pick up two nominations they will be the most nominated girl group in BRITs history!
nominations at 4pm today!
I’m gonna go with noms for:
Best British Group
Best British Single- Sweet Melody
Best British Album
Call me optimistic
I doubt album! But I would say the other 2 are more or less guaranteed, no?
GAHHHH! C'mon ladies!! Hope they're announced as performers soon too!
Yeaaah ! Nomination for Best Group !
No sweet melody!!
Best Group nom!
No best album nomination sadly.
What happened to the video category?
Finally a girlgroup in the best group category. About time. Now give them that award for a full redemption.
Disappointed for "Sweet Melody", but the timing wasn't right since more songs sold more. Maybe next year.
We need another iconic performance there too.
I keep forgetting Single is based on the best selling, which is annoying, but I get it.
They were never gonna get an album nomination so I'm not too bothered about that, I'm just focusing on the getting the Best British Group win! Coz they deserve it so, so much and even if they were up for single, I'd want them to win Group more as I feel like it'd be a real moment in BRITs history.
If they end up performing, they're in with a shot of winning. If they're not performing, I think it's fair to assume they won't get it.
They should bring Best Music Video category back tbh even if it isn’t fan voted anymore .
How far outside the best UK sellers was Sweet Melody?
Quite far, I think... I recall browsing through the best selling singles of 2020 thread around here a few weeks ago and when I got to the 10th one it was still near 700,000/800,000...
Their competition:
Best British group
Bicep
Biffy Clyro
Little Mix
The 1975
Young T & Bugsey
Ugh. It's gonna be The 1975 again, isn't it? 😔
I think if they're not announced as peformers there's no way they're winning...
I hope the girls win, they truly deserve it!
They need to change rules for best uk single
I agree. Songs released in Q4 - unless Ed/Adele kinda massive - are at a real unfair advantage nowadays with streaming
I think they should average their first 4 weeks or their highest 3/4 weeks of sales at the time or something.
I've never understood why the rules are different for the British Single category. Why is it only that one that is based on sales data?
I'm not a fan of 'Sweet Melody' but it pretty clearly deserved a nomination here, I thought they might bend the rules to allow it in but I guess not.
Cute!
The optimist side of me has a feeling they are finally gonna win this, this year, all the signs point to them getting it
However the realist in me thinks we are gonna be disappointed again, this is Biffy Clyros 3rd nomination also, they’ve never won this, and the award isn’t based on who’s had the most commercial success.
Urgh I hate waiting! Just host the awards tomorrow 😫
There is no more they can do to win it really but fingers crossed they win it.
I hope they'll be announces as performers. It looks like a really weak line up so far.
Who's been announced so far? I only know about Dua. (I'm genuinely asking aha I'm so behind lmao)
Pink, Rag N' Bone Man and Olivia Rodrigo have been confirmed as well.
Saving the best for last?
None of the Best Group nominees yet?
Usually at least one of them performs (usually the winner)... if there are no performers from that category, I'd say it's still pretty open. But whoever is announced to perform, they'll likely to win.
Come on ladies!
To be honest I'd rather see a big performance of Sweet Melody (or a medley with Break Up Song/Confetti) than them win an award.
Is that bad?
The girls are going to be on Heat Radio this Friday at 4pm chatting about Confetti & their "hope for the Brit awards"
So I would imagine that the Capital announcement earlier in the day is in fact their Brits performance announcement.
Manifesting a Sweet Melody/Confetti mash-up performance and the girls winning the award!
A massive performance of Confetti just as they win the Best Group award would be ITTTTT.
I'd much rather a live performance of Sweet Melody than Confetti.
I wouldn't, for the drama factor, maybe because I feel like they would go off, but we already got our big award show performance of Sweet Melody.
The girls have never performed at the Brits with a current single, as in previous years they were always bound by the "perform your nominated song" rule, but this year they aren't nominated for the Best Single award and Confetti could use the promo, plus Confetti def feels like it would benefit from a bit performance number
I wouldn't mind a Dark Mix medley = Sweet Melody into Confetti
And tbh Sweet Melody deserved the Don't Start Now/Dynamite treatment and number of performances - it should have been everywhere!
If 'Sweet Melody' was nominated for Best Single, sure. But it's not, so I don't see why they wouldn't be able to perform 'Confetti' tbh. I think they're big enough to not have to rely on an older song to pull in viewers. An exclusive performance of 'Confetti' would definitely be more preferable imo. I'd be here for a medley too though!
I really want them to perform a huge piano ballad at some point, on an award show.
I sadly don't think Confetti will really be that interesting live, though. It's more chilled out and laid back than their usual stuff and I can't imagine them being able to do much with it choreography wise whereas with Sweet Melody you can easily see them with fire, water, choreography, darkness, warehouse staging etc.
What did they announce?
Is anyone else really convinced they are going to win this? I’m not just saying it because I love them to death they truly deserve it, they have to be the ones to beat in this category.
Come on BRITs just give it to them!
FWIW, The 1975 have been on a break for quite a while now in between albums. So I wouldn't expect them to perform or attend tbh!
They're definitely not performing now. The Weeknd has been announced so I guess they saved the best til last.
Real shame.
Also I wonder if they will actually attend?
Leigh is maybe too pregnant for them to perform.
Daily Mail are reporting that the girls are performing at the BRITs next week.. don't know how true it is especially with Leigh being pregnant.
They wouldn't not attend when they're so hungry for that award.
Imagine they end up doing a surprise performance and they perform My Love Won’t Let You Down, the lyrics could be interpreted to be about Jesy leaving or Leigh’s pregnancy, probably won’t happen, just a thought 😅
Yeah I didn’t think it would be everyone’s cup of tea haha
I don't think they're performing.
No it doesn’t look that way, maybe next year
Screaming and Leigh's mom responding to this fake tweet!
Did she leak or?
I would of though she would know if the girls were performing or not. Bit sus.
This is so bizarre. I doubt they are performing but her Mum saying that makes it odd - if they weren’t performing she surely would have confirmed it was fake?
They are NOT performing
It’s literally there time and moment to win this tomorrow . The Brits are trash if they don’t give it to them .
This will be such a moment if they do win it
I really hope they cap off a brilliant month with that record BRITs win tomorrow. I'm nervous but excited. Idk if it's just coz of all the goodwill towards them lately but I'm feeling oddly confident about tomorrow...
I've probs jinxed it now tbh lmao. SORRY!!!
It'd be a MOMENT if they won
They deserve it SO much!
I hope we get cute photos of them together on the red carpet! Do we have 100% confirmation that they are definitely attending?
Also they are on LIVE on TikTok in 20 MINUTES!!
I really can't see The 1975 winning again. They won in 2017 and 2019 (both times Little Mix were nominated) however they did get a #1 album that went Gold and a hit single. It would be a bit of an uproar if these guys won again in particular.
Biffy Clyro also got a #1 album and a couple of top 40 hits HOWEVER they've never won Best Group either (only been nominated twice).
I've never heard of Bicep but they did get a #2 album. They haven't had any top 40 singles from it however they could be a winner just for the shock/WTF/'credible' drama.
Young T and Bugsy have no chance - they only had one hit single in 2020 which was purely because of Tik Tok. Their album missed the top 40 and they aren't a touring act or have much of a fanbase BUT they did get a hit in America which would make them the only group in the category to have done so.
I don't think any of them had any cultural impact or been newsworthy in the last year and none of them have had a single anywhere near as big as any of the Confetti ones. Little Mix have every box ticked - hit singles (Platinum #1 and three top 15's that will all be Gold inevitably), hit album (#2 and still in the top 40), a Saturday night TV show on BBC One, numerous televised TV performances that were amazing (Touch on One World, Live Lounge, Strictly, The Search, Jonathan Ross, EMA's) and Jesy leaving was one of the biggest entertainment stories of the year plus Leigh and Perrie got over 2 million Likes on Instagram with their pregnancy announcements and a girl group has never won the award.
There is so much momentum for the girls right now and while I can't say I care that much about an award, it would definitely be underwhelming and a missed opportunity to award it to a male 'rock' group again.
Bicep gained huge traction this year there seems to be a lot of buzz around them- Apricots in particular gained a lot of attention in the dance circles of radio and publications etc- however it’s Little Mix’s to lose for sure and dare I say The 1975 is their weakest opposition? I see Biffy, Bicep and Young T & Bugsy way more likely- but again- I think it’s almost certainly Little Mix’s
This has to be the girls year!
Not getting my hopes up for this at all 💀. I imagine The 1975 will get it for the 19th time
If they don’t win there’s absolutely no chance a girl group will ever win the award, which is awful. If they win it’s a win for the Spice Girls, All Saints, Sugababes & Girls Aloud all of who deserved to win during their respective nominations, it’ll be monumental. I really hope they get it. 😭
Low-key think Young T and Bugsey are their biggest threat.
If Young T and Bugsy win (as much as I love them) for doing f*** all in 2020 besides drop an album on streaming sites then that's seriously wrong. I don't think they did ANYTHING the entire year - even their only hit single was released at the end of 2019 and only picked up because of Tik Tok.
I’m not holding out any hope.
I almost don’t want to watch it this year because I know if they lose yet again I’ll actually be totally devastated knowing it’s highly unlikely they’ll ever get a chance again.
I’m still hopeful they can win it.
But if they don’t win it this year I highly doubt they ever will.
Really really hoping they can finally do it this year!
I don't know about the other groups but Young T and Bugsy are also on the red carpet.
Anyone know if the other groups are there?
Wow they look amazing.
Who would have thought six months ago the Brits would roll around and they'd be a 3 piece with two members pregnant on the red carpet??
Jade instantly posing with her hands on their bumps
I really can’t watch this because I don’t think they’ve won it.
I’m so scared.
Was hoping they'd give Young T & Bugsy the Breakthrough so that they didn't have to give them group!
YESSS!!!!
YASSSSSS FINALLY!!!!
So happy for them!!
Yessssssssssss OMG so happy for them !
The Saturdays are pissed with that speech!
Over the moon for them!!
That speech too
So happy for them! Well deserved!
Why am I crying I never cry!!!
They deserved this so much!!!
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
I NEED TO SEE A VIDEO ON YOUTUBE NOW
THRILLED
DESERVED
FINALLY!!! YYYAAASSSS
THEY SAID LITERALLY EVERYTHING I WAS HOPING THEY WOULD! 😭😭😭
WHAT A MONTH.
SOO HAPPY FOR THEM!
P.S not Olly spoiling it and blurting "Lit-..." before Adam! Haha
SOBBING OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!
STOP
What a moment!! That was perfect, the speech, the shout outs, I’m so happy
This gif is a whole mood right now !l
I'm on such a high! I'm so f***ing proud.
"If One Direction couldn't win X Factor, Little Mix won't" they did.
"If [Spice Girls/One Direction/Girls Aloud/Sugababes] couldn't win Best British Group, Little Mix won't" they did.
Both quotes I've read, seen or heard.
It took 10 years of them being together and constantly achieving new peaks and records so far into their careers, but they did it.
AMAZING! So bloody happy!
Delighted for Little Mix.
I'm so bloody happy for them
So well deserved - this is definitely going to give them an even bigger urge to carry on smashing it.
Very classy speech by the girls.
Honestly so over the moon. Made me so emotional, from voting for them on X Factor to them winning Best Group. The speech was everything, I feel so proud. & Jesy has also posted about it which is lovely.
Great news! Congratulations girls!
I’ll need to watch this when it’s on tv here tonight or tomorrow.
Still on such a high and Jesy responding to it...
WHAT A TIME.
Good to see Jesy respond and also good they mentioned her in their speech, if neither had done that i would have been thinking the worst.
I am a couple of hours behind because I had a cheeky sesh in London this afternoon and didn't get back until 11 and I made a point of avoiding social media on the train so I didn't spoil myself and as soon as I walked in the door I put the awards on (I watch it every year religiously) and I didn't so much agree with every winner but I predicted the majority of them correctly. I'm happy LM was announced early on... and I don't think my neighbours appreciated my shreeking and hollering, but it was what is was. I cried.
Before the award was announced I paused the TV, turned to my boyfriend and said "You don't understand... if they don't win I'm not watching this award show ever again... AND if they win, it won't just be for themselves, it will be for Spice Girls, All Saints, Sugababes and Girls Aloud... and I want to say The Saturdays just for a nom they were close to getting." to which he responded "THE SPICE GIRLS NEVER WON!?!" I just said... "Don't even get me started." and pressed play.
YES!!!!!!!!!
YESSS!! After all these years, I honestly wasn't expecting anything anymore so this is such a lovely and very deserved surprise. That speech was beautiful as well, Jade mentioning the other girl groups almost made me tear up. I love them all so much <3
I LOVED the speech. It was so classy and I love how they actually made the effort to plan it in advance and thank as many people as possible.
Does anyone remember that time The Arctic Monkeys won an award a few years back (maybe best Group or best Album?) and their speech was so f***ing arrogant and insulting? They acted like they thought the award was beneath them.
SO SO HAPPY FOR THEM!
I literally was so emotional last night, such a perfect speech.
Last night was a MOMENT.
I love that Jesy posted about it too!
It's got me thirsty for a 'Greatest Hits' era. The way they're headed we could be in for a 2 disc special if it ever happens.
Nice that they acknowledged previous girl group nominees. A nice touch. Long overdue that a girl group won.
I still cant believe they finally won Best Group.. So so deserved
Oasis and Fleetwoid Mac despite releasing no new material have done very well, big result for a little mix but I'm surprised they are ahead of adele.
It was expected but no less thrilling to see Little Mix win Best Group. I loved their speech too; they seemed so grateful, humble and came across as real people.
I know people were joking when they say they 'snubbed' The Saturdays in their speech, but it looks to me that they only mentioned the girl groups that had previously received Best Group nominations. I also don't see why Little Mix would have been particularly inspired by The Saturdays either.
I was expecting that to be really cringey and desperate but all three of them were hilarious. I remember Jade went to the Work and Greatest Hits tour so it's nice to know that The Sats were somewhat of an inspiration to them as well.
Whilst we are on the subject of The Saturdays, did anyone else see them as a Girls Aloud rip off at times? They had 0 originality about them and the personalities of the band members never really shone through? I always felt like they were always struggling, they never really had that “Glory Days” era did they, well maybe the Chasing Lights era and that’s it.
And there performances were always dreadful! Just YouTube Just Can’t Get Enough from Comic Relief 2009!
All Fired Up is a banger though 😂
It appears I’ve opened a can of worms 😂
i don't think the sats were a GA rip off, music was completely different and so was their style/image. GA definitely was meant to appease to.. I would say "older girls", like 17-19 mainly with angsty songs and I think were also meant to be a girl group to push GOOD music (even if it didn't always land due to the limitations of the members)
the sats didn't really have a direction, i felt like little mix coming in like 2(1?) years later overshadowed them completely and their music/image/performances etc just weren't good enough to find a niche
This playlist is on point *.*
Look at them squeezing Nostalgia in there! But yeh bloody great choices.
EDIT: Notice GRL are missing... Imagine if Ugly Heart was there!!
Not them missing off GRL & Stooshe but including UNPERFECT!!!!
tbh GRL used their dead band members account to tweet from over the Ugly Heart mess so I'm glad they were skipped over
Stooshe is odd though cus Black Heart was kinda big. I don't rly like unperfect but to be included on a Little Mix playlist and be under that "girl group umbrella" that Little Mix govern over is kinda incredible for them considering how unheard of that group is
