We've hit 50 pages in the http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=149071 and it's the big storm week so no better time for a new thread I guess, first in over five years ohmy.gif

Posted by: liamk97 19th October 2018, 09:37 PM

Can't believe the old thread lasted nearly 6 years! ohmy.gif I re-read the 2013 discussion and it was such a great year for Hollyoaks. I've fallen out of touch as the years have gone on.

Tegan! cry.gif

Posted by: ZaraRuinMyLife 24th October 2018, 08:30 PM

There’s no way Harry survives..... surely not?

Posted by: ZaraRuinMyLife 25th October 2018, 06:04 PM

That was truly truly an appalling disappointment of a stunt, I expected so much more!

Posted by: lewistscream 25th October 2018, 09:31 PM

I thought it was over the top, especially the chucked in news reports laugh.gif
I get our weather has been all over the place, but it has not been that extreme to cause TORNADOES rotf.gif

Legit hoping Harry is off-screen now for a while. That character needs to be rested and he needs to come back and do something different other than pining/cheating.

Posted by: Calum 25th October 2018, 10:41 PM

I never particularly liked Tegan much, but those hospital scenes were quite emotional. For all the hype that they've given this week though, it seems like that could have happened in any standard week of the year? The execution was a bit all over the place and it hasn't been as dramatic as it could've been.

Why was BBC's Carol Kirkwood doing the weather report.

A real shame to see Sinead come back.

I just can't at Buster's persistent denial STILL rotf.gif

Posted by: lewistgreen 2nd November 2018, 10:41 PM

Why have they turned Liam into a mini Glenn? Complete overhaul of his character as though he is a different person (and literally) kink.gif

Posted by: Calum 2nd November 2018, 10:50 PM

Liam needs to leave ASAP.

Some of the storylines recently have been so poorly thought out. Russ has gone on for months about how suspicious he is of Mercedes, yet they make him go and sleep with Goldie?

Posted by: lewistgreen 2nd November 2018, 11:17 PM

Lmao Russ rolleyes.gif can't remember him having much substance when he was in it before. Nice they revisited him and Nancy very briefly this week though.

Posted by: lewistgreen 12th November 2018, 07:03 PM

Lisa heart.gif

Posted by: lewistgreen 15th November 2018, 08:50 PM

So I haven’t seen tonight’s but have read what’s happened. Never pinned Breda as a murderer laugh.gif and oop bye Russ.

Posted by: Liаm 15th November 2018, 08:58 PM

Seems totally random, the most random killer since Lindsey, and yet ANOTHER serial killer? laugh.gif I knew it would be someone random af though who offed Carl, it was never going to be Mercedes or Russ and Sylver really had no motive. Not that Breda does, but it seems like she's a female Silas who is "punishing" men who've done wrong which is classic Hollyoaks "oh look she's a serial killer moment". Very twisted though that she made the kids a doll with Russ' button on it :/

Posted by: lewistgreen 15th November 2018, 09:21 PM

Ooh just twigged that also ties in with a similar doll Bobby has that has one of Carl’s buttons on.

Posted by: Liаm 15th November 2018, 09:22 PM

Omg I forgot about that!! That was what made the police suspect Mercedes as well.

Posted by: lewistgreen 19th November 2018, 10:09 PM

Winter Trailer including actual Ray Quinn! And it looks like another death is on the cards.

Posted by: troylovesmusic 11th January 2019, 11:01 PM

This has just been incredible this week with the trail stuff so well put together and acted out .Thank God Buster was found guilty ! They definitely need to be nominated and win a few awards for the whole storyline !

Posted by: Liаm 12th January 2019, 12:43 AM

Aedan Duckworth at least deserves an award but I wouldn't be surprised if they got best storyline and it'd be deserved! If they can get it with that self harming mess, they can get it with this.

Posted by: Mack. 24th January 2019, 12:08 PM

So there are two serial killers in Hollyoaks.

Posted by: Andrew. 13th February 2019, 08:41 PM

Mercedes is completely tedious now, when she was with Joe they really developed her character but since she came back from Jen Metcalf’s maternity leave they’ve regressed her back into sleeping with every man going and hanging around dodgy people sad.gif

Posted by: Liаm 27th March 2019, 06:52 PM

Myra's exit was the most rushed half arsed thing ever oh my christ laugh.gif

Posted by: Wall 27th March 2019, 07:17 PM

She will be back in a year probz

Posted by: liamk97 27th March 2019, 07:48 PM

Didn't she leave before and ended up back soon after?

Posted by: Doug 27th March 2019, 07:57 PM

Sad to see Myra go again although she is like Bianca from Eastenders, no doubt she’ll come back again no matter what Nicole says. Her exit was very random though, so odd how characters leave on these soaps without packing their things and always have money for plane/train tickets!

SO happy to see Mac get bumped off too, rotten character although David Easter is a great actor, the way he killed Neeta in particular was unforgivable. Breda is legit a queen, I don’t think I’ve ever stanned a serial killer this much!

Also Juliet... what the f*** is she?! Awful character and actress. Like Nico but worse.

Posted by: Jordan Lee 29th March 2019, 03:15 PM

Death story confirmed for a certain character.

Won’t say who incase of spoilers but all over Twitter and sites like Digital Spy.

Looks like it’s going to be a difficult episode to watch cry.gif

Posted by: Wall 29th March 2019, 03:18 PM

Expected that tbh.

It's actually a good ending for the character (for awareness) to a storyline which has brought a lot of awareness to Hollyoaks.

Posted by: Liаm 29th March 2019, 03:22 PM

We can spoil it in tags x

Lily dies of sepsis after one of her self harm wounds becomes infected, I had a strong feeling that the second death after Mac we had teased was going to be her, I thought she would commit suicide but I think this is an equally heartbreaking way to do it, especially if she's getting better and then dies that way because of her self harm wound. I don't like the character though so I'm not too bothered it's her dying

QUOTE(Doug @ Mar 27 2019, 07:57 PM) *

I expected it too but really wanted to be wrong.

A great character who’s actually strong at acting but two silver linings are the episodes sound fantastic and the aftermath should be great too.

And it was their decision to leave too as the character wasn’t axed.

Posted by: Wall 10th April 2019, 06:25 PM

Lily is such an incredible actress, the scouse accient is just annoying but damn that exit was heartbreaking sad.gif

An extended look at the new titles that launched this week

Posted by: Andrew. 14th May 2019, 10:17 PM

Ever since they got these kinds of opening titles I can’t watch without cringing 😂

Posted by: Liаm 16th May 2019, 02:00 PM

Is it just me or do Romeo and Harry have more chemistry than James and Harry? laugh.gif

Tbf James and Harry are a Robron level of no chemistry, can't fathom the fanwank over that pairing!

Posted by: Wall 16th May 2019, 02:35 PM

James and Harry are actually and incredibly popular couple though, the amount of support they get online is mainly why they chose to end Harry and Ste but again I mainly think that's because of the storylines for them both. I think the age difference plays a huge part but your right on Romeo and Harry having great chemistry.

Posted by: Andrew. 16th May 2019, 02:41 PM

I really wanted James and Harry to get together but it’s been flat af laugh.gif I thought they had good chemistry when they were friends with benefits/an affair but something just isn’t working. It doesn’t help that Romeo looks the same age as Harry laugh.gif They’re way better than Robron though, probably because I like both of the individual characters.

Kirkwood loves Ste so much I wouldn’t be surprised if they forget about his racism and put him back with Harry the second this storyline is over laugh.gif

Posted by: Wall 16th May 2019, 02:56 PM

The racism storyline is so uncomfortable to watch but at the same time I think it's important to highlight this issue and I think it's being done incredibly well.

Posted by: Liаm 16th May 2019, 03:07 PM

I just wish it was a better character than Ste involved but he does make the most sense out of everyone n the village being dragged into something like that. The Maaliks are incredible throughout this, especially Misbah!

Who would have been the better character in your view, Liam. It should have been involved in the racism storyline?

Posted by: Liаm 16th May 2019, 10:10 PM

Anyone who isn't as unlikable and all round awful as Ste laugh.gif But like I said, he's the type of character who makes perfect sense in it, I just abhor anything that gives him too much screentime tbh

Posted by: Serhat Mack 16th May 2019, 10:15 PM

It amazes me how long he has been on the show for. Couldn't stand him when he first joined.

Posted by: Liаm 22nd May 2019, 05:43 PM

Stephanie Davis should definitely be a front-runner for Best Actress at the Soap Awards after tonight, bloody brilliant!!

Posted by: Andrew. 28th May 2019, 06:24 PM

Sick of Mercedes making the same mistakes again and again then being offended when people call her out, she had so much development when she was with Joe but it’s all been undone drama.gif

Posted by: Andrew. 31st May 2019, 09:37 PM

The way Hollyoaks treats it’s gay characters is appalling...why do gay men (Doug, Ste, Harry, Kyle) randomly sleep with women? laugh.gif

Posted by: Liаm 7th June 2019, 05:43 PM

Leela tonight is a fab example of why this deserves best soap, I'm loving this radicalisation storyline!

Posted by: Jordan Lee 8th June 2019, 12:20 AM

Stes story is so hard to watch but it’s well acted at the same time.

One major point I keep making though is that I hope the climax doesn’t turn into a Saint Ste type story where he becomes the victim.

Posted by: lewistgreen 13th June 2019, 06:01 PM

DEAD at actual Alison Hammond turning up

Posted by: Jordan Lee 24th June 2019, 09:31 AM

Maxine’s story is another one what’s intriguing me!

I like that Mitchell seems to be on to her now.

I have a weird kinda hunch that after she’s found out to be lying she’s actually going to end up being ill.

Posted by: lewistgreen 17th July 2019, 08:00 PM

SHOOK

Posted by: Wall 22nd July 2019, 06:42 PM

Sounds like he was axed omg

Posted by: Jordan Lee 25th July 2019, 07:19 PM

I’m not really gonna miss Bredas latest victim.

I always felt he was cast on his looks rather than being a good actor.

For the stories he had he was pretty much the same in all of them.

I must admit though if he was axed I’m shocked bc I thought he was amongst the producers favourites.

Posted by: Liаm 25th July 2019, 09:51 PM

I feel like they axed him for the shock and also probbaly to further other producers' faves like James and Ste as he's connected to both of them.

Posted by: Jordan Lee 20th August 2019, 11:28 PM

Really liked last weeks episodes.

The Ste storyline was well acted and quite shocking / disturbing.

Breda is turning more barmy now as well. Such a strange character. I don’t know if I loathe or love her. She does make me laugh though.

Mercedes getting the same storyline over and over again though is a bit of a let down. Jennifer Metcalfe is capable of much more but i do prefer her with Liam.

Intrigued to see where the Scott storyline goes in terms of when Cleo will leave. I’m hoping it’s not rushed. HO sometimes do sexuality storylines well but we often get others where they just feel short sighted but it makes a change from Ste turning someone gay.

Now to watch last nights and tonight’s episodes (at C4 pace).

Will also add I was happy to see Prince leave on a positive note. A rare HO ending but i was glad he wasn’t killed off.

Posted by: Jordan Lee 22nd August 2019, 12:14 AM

The Maxine story though.

I know she’s lying but how is Damon so taken in. How’s he not went to any hospital appointment or questioned anything in fact why has anyone. And she still looks a million dollars too you think she’d at least try and make herself more physically ill. She’s tripped herself up so many times as well already yet it’s all so sure everyone’s believing what she’s saying. I’m intrigued for the fall out and seeing how it all becomes exposed.

Posted by: Wall 28th August 2019, 06:28 PM

Holy actual f***

I’m shook. This is why Hollyoaks is the best soap. Wow.

Posted by: Liаm 28th August 2019, 06:45 PM

Omg he can't actually be dead surely

Posted by: Medellíam 28th August 2019, 06:57 PM

Just had a look who you're talking about - yeah, no way have they killed him off, it'll be a fake-out.

They did the same thing with Mercedes a few years back didn't they? Another character they would never get rid of.

Posted by: lewistgreen 28th August 2019, 06:57 PM

Removed from tomorrow’s first look opening credits according to DigitalSpy so I guess so? But this is Hollyoaks so anything can happen haha

Posted by: Jordan Lee 28th August 2019, 07:03 PM

There’s no way they would’ve killed off Tony without it leaking months before hand.

A character who’s been there since day one nearly 24 years ago! There’s no way the show could keep that a secret no matter how hard they tried.

Tony’s going to be what brings her down in the end.

I’m guessing he’s heading to the pig farm or he’s heading straight to hospital after someone finds him leading to him being in some sort of induced coma which then brings his father into the show.

Posted by: Wall 28th August 2019, 07:07 PM

I actually think they have, they’ve announced it as an exit and she was watching over ****** until they died. They also got the slow music.

Bryan also said a huge death would be upcoming that would change everything....

Posted by: Wall 28th August 2019, 07:09 PM

Hollyoaks keep quiet about deaths also to make a larger impact, look at Irish Lindsey and Riley etc

Posted by: Medellíam 28th August 2019, 07:12 PM

Why would the actor leave a job for life though? No offence to the guy but he's not going to get any roles elsewhere.

QUOTE(Wall @ Aug 28 2019, 08:09 PM) *

Those were only in the show for what like 2-3 years a piece.

The character were talking about in tonights is far far bigger.

They could keep deaths like that a secret but not like the one we “seen” on E4.

Posted by: Mark. 28th August 2019, 07:26 PM

In shock! Got to be a twist.

Posted by: Liаm 28th August 2019, 09:59 PM

If they really have kept this a secret, masterminded all this for a shock death, then bloody fair play because I am really SHOOK, and this is really one way to shake things up but i can't help but feel it's a terrible decision to kill off such an iconic character for the short term gain of a pantomime flavour of the month villain.

I think it's gonna be like Nico "killing" Sienna though where it looks like for a few days or whatever he's dead but he's actually not, and they knew how to stage it for maximum effect so that it gets people talking.

Posted by: Jordan Lee 28th August 2019, 10:38 PM

I’ll be astounded if it really is true.

Honestly though what show would kill off their only original character in a midweek episode with absolutely no build up what so ever and no pre announcement that the character is going.

I know HO are fairly good at keeping cast exits a secret but keeping secret that Tony is being killed off would have leaked long in advance!

One of few characters who would get a pre annoucement.

Mercedes, Jack, Darren Ste, Nancy, Mandy and Cindy are the only other characters I feel we would know in advance if they were going to go and it would leak in advance. Maybe Sienna too they’ve tried the shock death trick with her before.

But especially Tony! Like every soap could get rid of someone and have it as a shock but that’s when the actors been in the show for only a small amount of time.

There’s no way they would do this with Tony.

Posted by: Medellíam 28th August 2019, 10:40 PM

If they had killed him off, there would surely have been an interview pop up following the episode with the actor in question, asking about their decision to leave and what not.

Posted by: lewistgreen 2nd September 2019, 06:26 PM

!!!!!!

Posted by: Jordan Lee 2nd September 2019, 09:18 PM

E4 pace he’s alive!

The HO Facebook page just posted a video showing him in I think the pig farm?

Hollyoaks Later is returning for a one-off special episode in January for the climax of Breda’s storyline

Posted by: Liаm 20th September 2019, 09:26 PM

I cba with that going til January ffs, Hollyoaks Later coming back even briefly is cool though!

There's also going to be a year-long flashforward on New Year's Eve, that'll be interesting!

Posted by: Jordan Lee 21st September 2019, 08:34 AM

Were also getting a Mercedes whodunnit where it seems she’s going to get shot.

She won’t be killed off but it seems she’s getting some sort of comeuppance.

Posted by: Wall 23rd September 2019, 01:15 AM

Hollyoaks are really knocking it out of the park with the racial storyline tbh

Posted by: Jordan Lee 4th October 2019, 03:22 PM

Breda still remaining comedy like terrible laugh.gif

Those pig farm scenes and her outbursts are just hilarious

Scott and Mitchell is interesting but the fact they’ve made Cleo all of a sudden Scots best friend feels so contrived. I get she needed an exit for maternity but I’d much rather Mitchell had just fallen for Scott and it not been an affair.

Agree on the racial story. The Sami and Ste scene was so good a few weeks back. I really hope Ste pays though. If this turns into Saint Ste where we all feel sorry for him I’ll scream. He’s always been a thug and unlikeable. He deserved to pay. At this point does he still think Jonny is his brother?

Posted by: Wall 8th October 2019, 04:11 AM

Hollyoaks for the first time ever won inside soap awards as well as best actor for Brody and be at actress for Sinead. They’re on great form at the moment especially pulling in consistently 1m on c4 and e4 now.

Posted by: Jordan Lee 18th October 2019, 01:30 AM

Nadine who plays Cleo had her baby in real life with the actor who plays Joel!

They welcomed a boy named Reggie. A lovely photo of them is on her instagram page.

Guessing she must be leaving on screen soon though as I imagine she’s been on leave for a few weeks now.

Really not liking the affair element. It’s completely regressed Scott and turned him into how he was when he very first arrived. I’d much rather they not done a sensationalist story for Cleo and had her just go and do a training course somewhere outside the village or had her decide she needs some time in Alicante where some of her family are giving her yet more misery when she’s been through the mill enough already sad.gif

Posted by: Jordan Lee 6th November 2019, 12:37 AM

Mercedes in tonight’s E4 episode so iconic laugh.gif

Her put downs and what she said to Diane and Joel had me in stitches laugh.gif laugh.gif

I literally love her

LOVED Hollyoaks Later. God Hollyoaks is so bonkers and high key so unrealistic but so entertaining at the same time laugh.gif

Posted by: Jordan Lee 7th January 2020, 07:57 PM

Atrocious ending for Breda.

She’s been low key comedy like bad as a villain tbh but I wanted a better exit for her than that.

I think they should’ve had the episode be set later on in the week though. Like I watch at C4 pace so I felt like I needed to see the E4 one before last nights late one as many things just made no sense it felt like I’d missed a lot because certain stuff I hadn’t seen on C4 yet like Mercedes finding Tony, Mercedes being released, wtf happened to John Paul etc.

The best way Breda could’ve went though would’ve been by jail tbh. But I knew that was out of the question as HO rarely go down this route with their villains. I don’t know if I’ll miss her or not though. She was memorable and the odd time I did root for her but I just wish a really capable actress took the part. Not that the actress was bad just not exactly convincing. If someone like the actress who plays Joan In Wentworth played the part or even EE Babe I’d have stanned the character more.

Yeah I had high hopes for this but it fell flat. Tbh though Breda has been one of the only low points around the show over the past year or so. The shows better stories for me are the ones what are slightly more realistic and what face actual issues. The upcoming drugs story what’s taking place over this year sounds pretty strong and the recent Ste story was also really well acted.

Also can’t say I’m excited Warrens coming back given he’s had absolute zero development and will no doubt just be the same thug like gangster kidnapping people every other week and using the kids as a weapon. He’s ten year past his sell by already. If Clare killed him in his original exit he’d have left an iconic character but he’s ruined his legacy with each return.

Posted by: lewistgreen 20th January 2020, 07:39 PM

Ratings for Hollyoaks Later were E4’s biggest in 2 and a half years with 1.1m. It was also the highest rated episode of the show since it started as a spin-off in 2008.

Posted by: Wall 21st January 2020, 12:22 AM

1.1m is incredible especially in that time slot.

I’m so glad Hollyoaks ratings are increasing generally and it seems like they’ve found some momentum especially as they are dominating all awards. It would be great if they could win some sort of NTA.

Posted by: Jordan Lee 21st January 2020, 12:32 AM

It’s good Later managed that but it was way way way behind anything like Sarah’s parachute jump, the Rae Murder episode, Nialls exit etc..

They should’ve ended Bredas story with the likes of Lisa, Jesse, James, (basically everyone who’s dad or loved one she killed all confront her) and have her taken away by the police. They missed a trick having a scene like that.

Also in regards to the main show I loved last weeks episodes that Sienna was at the forefront but Warren Fox is just so 2008. Like he’s literally just playing the same role over and over again. Lying scheming kidnapping until Jamie Lomas decides he can have luck elsewhere and off he goes. Just how would the hospital staff not know it was him as well he’s supposed to be on the run ffs. Can see him staying another 18 month before he leaves again.

I’m loving the Sienna and Warren storyline tbh, Sienna is my fav character.

Posted by: Liаm 21st January 2020, 01:01 AM

I can't stand Warren and agree his character is tired, he's a bit like the Hollyoaks Phil Mitchell laugh.gif just the same tired storylines of everyone being scared of him and him getting his way.

Sienna getting any airtime is always good though, I think she might be my fave in any soap let alone just Hollyoaks! How she's never got a Best Actress nod at the soap awards is beyond me.

Posted by: Wall 21st January 2020, 01:13 AM

Agreed about Sienna.

My fav character in any soap and my fav since Mitzeee.

Posted by: Jordan Lee 21st January 2020, 10:55 AM

Another Sienna lover here.

I was nervous when she was ruining Nancy’s life as I presumed she’d have a shelf life but they way they’ve developed her since has been great. She’s so layered and can act out so much different styles. She’s a great character if she ever leaves I’d be devastated.

Posted by: lewistgreen 21st January 2020, 09:30 PM

I've not seen it yet BUT HOW COULD THEY

Posted by: Jordan Lee 22nd January 2020, 12:45 AM

ohmy.gif ohmy.gif

well that just come from absolutely no-where.

A little bit reminiscent of when Carol Jackson’s son died in EastEnders.

I know HO kill off more characters than any other soap. But exits like this what aren’t serial killer or stunt related they can really pull off the raw emotion and the feeling of just shock as well what you’d get with a sudden death like this. The best death they’ve done since Lily for me.

It was a great episode tonight and really sad as well cry.gif

Posted by: Jordan Lee 26th January 2020, 12:26 AM

James is so confusing as F-k.

One minute Harry’s the love of his life and he can’t ever get over him.

Then he’s with Liam, then he’s making moves on JP.

One thing about HO what’s so unrealistic is how fast everyone moves on when their boyfriend / girlfriend / spouse dies.

Courtney will probably be engaged to Damon by Valentines Day.

Posted by: Jordan Lee 5th February 2020, 12:59 PM

I’m really beginning to stan Celeste right now.

She’s more determined to ruin Martine and her family than Toby laugh.gif . I’m really ready for her to become the shows next female villain.

Toby is good as well (and they’re both super good looking too). Scott though ffs I can’t tolerate him at the minute he’s absolutely unbearable.

He was when he first came into it then when Sinead was axed and she left at first he become better. And he done the suicide attempt story well.

But since he’s become Anita he’s just went back to being terrible. And then the forced relationships with Levi and then poor Azim too (who actually liked Scott for being him) just so he can end up with Mitchell who he isn’t suited to in the slightest. And then the whole set up of him and Cleo being best friends too just so he can betray her so she can have an exit as well laugh.gif

Agreed, idk why they keep giving him so many big-ish storylines, as if there aren't other gay characters in the show they could've worked into Mitchell's storyline who aren't unbearable. I don't even think he's a particularly good actor, like during the depression/suicide storyline he was *fine* I suppose but nothing special and in a storyline like that, a character should shine.

He actually won a soap award for that storyline too!

Mitchell’s story is hard to watch because I resonate with him a tad (not like I went off at other gay people the way he did but the denial and tads of the religious aspect too). But Mitchell and Azim genuinely have good chemistry together and I wish he’d been his boyfriend instead of Scott.

Posted by: Liаm 5th February 2020, 01:28 PM

Yeah definitely, and it would have shown the difference between Azim's family accepting him and Mitchell struggling with his granddad, despite the fact religion could have stood in the way for Azim too.

Posted by: Jordan Lee 5th February 2020, 08:49 PM

That E4 ending!! So

Is Celeste Walters daughter or Toby's sister? She seems more determined to get revenge than him and it seemed odd that his wife would be more bothered than him but now we know they aren’t a couple it’s starting to make more sense

Also those Mitchell and Walter scenes are very well acted.

Walter reminds me of a lot of my male teachers at school and a few people in my family too. So I definitely found it realistic even though it’s hard to watch. Religion really is one of the biggest causes of how people are mistreated tbh sad.gif

Also that opening to Fridays episode. Wtf I’m in hysterics at that “finally” music video like opening. Much needed tbh after Thursdays episode being so hard hitting.

I’m actually kinda annoyed with the Brody and Sienna storyline, there wasn’t really any need to basically split them up but I’m totally here for psycho sienna *.*

Mercedes and Warren though. wink.gif

A fitting couple to be fair. I’m hoping the Warren in care story when explored is done well though and that this stint isn’t like his last one. When given genuinely good stories both characters can show progression it was nice that Mercedes gave Brooke a present too after giving birth.

Generally enjoying the show at the minute though. Luke’s exit is gonna be a real tear jerker I can just already tell that and I’ve loved some of the more light headed balance like moments too between stuff what’s hard hitting Marnie becoming the new comedy queen of the show right now wub.gif also loved the mention of Toms parents who I legit actually remember being on the show that’s how long I’ve watched.

Maxine as well the one time she’s telling the truth she’s not getting believed.

Is luke leaving?

Posted by: Jordan Lee 20th February 2020, 08:15 PM

I’m only assuming Luke will eventually leave because of his storyline but it hasn’t been confirmed by the show as of yet but eventually it’s probably gonna be a Duffy casualty type exit I’m guessing.

I can perhaps see him staying with the show until late next year but I’d surprised if it’s beyond that.

Posted by: Jordan Lee 13th April 2020, 05:33 PM

I’m enjoying Richard Blackwoods character Felix so far!

His entire family are interesting tbh. Walter is well acted but a hypocritical buffoon. Martine has shone lately too and Celeste and Toby are also great. Celeste really has it in her to be the shows big female bitch / villain if they get it right with her. So much potential with all of them.

I’ve said it before but I’m over Warren Fox tbh. An exhausted character who should’ve stayed in the past.

I used to like Adam Rickitt's album Good Times, so the other day I asked myself what he is doing these days. I was shocked to find out he's on Hollyoaks for three years now and I didn't recognize him, but I have to say I never cared much about his character Kyle.

Posted by: Jordan Lee 23rd May 2020, 11:01 AM

I have a weird feeling re Kyle that his character may end up Taking his own life.

I guess it’s sort of possible given the current storyline he’s involved in and I think HO would really tackle a story like this well if it were to happen. It’s been a while now as well since CS did the same thing with Shayne Wards character so there won’t be a direct compare to that as well.

That's what I'm thinking too.

I feel that Darren's probably going to come through the other end of all this feeling better about himself (slowly) with the support of Mandy and everybody else around him, but for Kyle it all just seems like there's no way he wants to or can be helped.

My only issue with that happening though is we're gonna have months on end of Nancy being centre stage aren't we? drama.gif

10 minutes into this e4 episode and I honestly have shivers

Posted by: Wall 9th June 2020, 06:26 PM

Damn, that episode was something else

Posted by: Jordan Lee 12th June 2020, 01:10 PM

I’m on C4 pace but Tuesdays episode was really well acted but a really uncomfortable watch knowing what was about to happen.

Luke’s words to Darren especially the “What do you have to be depressed about” felt very true. It’s something I think anyone who’s had depression has had said to them at some point so it did feel very realistic what was said.

I had a feeling a while ago that Kyles story was to end in the way it did though I remember putting a spoiler tag on here a few weeks ago with my hunch of what I felt would happen. Really impressed with the acting though and I imagine the next c4 episode what some of you may have seen on E4 will be some powerful stuff.

Hollyoaks tackle issue led stories very well though!

Posted by: Jordan Lee 18th June 2020, 12:12 PM

The episodes following Kyles death have been brilliant.

The raw emotions the likes of Nancy, Darren, Jack, Brooke, Charlie all very well acted.

The scene where Nancy listened to the voice mail sad.gif

I’m happy that Darren has now went and gotten himself some help too. He was a brilliant choice of character for this type of storyline too he’s amongst the strongest actors on the show and can do the dramatic stuff really well when he’s given the chance to do so.

Posted by: Calum 19th June 2020, 09:06 AM

Mitchell will he leaving the show at the end of the actors contract. Possibly the first post lockdown death? We know HO love those and it’ll give Scott more tragedy

I'd be on board with that, can't stand him at all. This whole "I'm a gay guy who would do anything for my homophobic grandad" thing is gross and watching him flip out at least once every episode is tiring. Would be great if he took Scott with him too though, never really been much of a fan of his either.

Screaming laugh.gif laugh.gif I sadly can’t see Scott going anywhere though unless the actor got sacked from the show I don’t think he’d leave of his own accord I may be wrong. News of another returning cast member in the spoiler

Jorgie Porter is returning to the show.

Posted by: Doug 7th September 2020, 06:32 PM

SO obvious that it was Lisa under the duvet and not Mitchell, and Martine or possibly Felix will be framed for the murder. Mitchell will be freaked out and go on the run.

Posted by: LJ JORD 7 7th September 2020, 10:08 PM

HO and quick death type exits for shock factor with no long term effect are really becoming too much now.

Too many times now we lose good characters for good all for the sake of a short term shock that leads nowhere long term.

Mitchell being killed is the best outcome but it’s just so gonna be Lisa who’s been killed off. I actually think a more interesting ending would’ve been Walter killing Mitchell to try and stop him go through with the wedding.

Posted by: LJ JORD 7 9th September 2020, 11:19 AM

A spoiler because I’m watching at E4 pace.

Gutted that was Lisa’s exit! She deserved better than that tbh the fact her exit story was more about other characters too. Mitchell’s leaving anyway so it would’ve been more fitting and created more stories if I was him who died rather than Lisa (in my opinion). Simone and Zak probably won’t be around to return even just briefly for when the truth is revealed too. I mean neither character needed to be killed out of Lisa and Mitchell but it would’ve created way more stories had it been Mitchell.

Also WTAF was that wedding dance. I can’t stand caricature Scott when they write him as some OTT gay stereotype.

Posted by: Monzo 11th September 2020, 08:33 AM

I wonder if Lisa was written out after the actress shared her opinion about Black Lives Matter in Hollyoaks or if she posted all that stuff as kind of revenge because she knew she had to go... Anyway, I liked Lisa's attitude, but she never had any real chemistry with anybody she was involved with.

Posted by: jlj 11th September 2020, 11:48 AM

The thing with HO and these kind of exits are aside from the initial OMG it was Lisa. There’s no lasting impact.

Her dads dead, her mam and her brother aren’t in the show and likely won’t return so where’s the impact / point of killing her off.

Compare that to Mitchell who’s leaving anyways, has both parents in the show, as well as siblings, a grandfather, a husband. The potential would’ve been far greater if he’d actually killed Mitchell and Lisa just went off to Ibiza.

Posted by: Monzo 11th September 2020, 04:44 PM

I'm actually surprised they dealt with Kyle's death for more than just two or three episodes, but I guess it's more because of Darren and not Kyle.

It's weird how fast characters are forgotten. It seems like Liam died ages ago, same with Jesse and they died in 2020.

Posted by: Liаm 11th September 2020, 08:50 PM

Hollyoaks is way better when it's dealing with real hard hitting issues like Kyle's suicide, this week has been a chore to watch tbh because I don't really like Martine, Walter, Mitchell, Scott or Toby, Felix is alright and I quite like Celeste, Lisa was my fave of that whole unit. But also it's just tiring that they couldn't go two days after returning from hiatus before they had a over the top murder, I think they pull off the shocks better than any other soap but as said there's never much of a long lasting impact, it's a shock for that episode then that's it. Hollyoaks is always at best when it's more grounded in reality, and then you can still have the big impactful death shocks like Kyle's suicide.

Also I don't think Rachel was fired, she filmed her exit before it was announced which was just after her speaking out.

Posted by: jlj 11th September 2020, 10:43 PM

Hopefully with HOs changing it’s producer they’ll lessen these types of stories as they aren’t even shocking anymore.

Also can anyone remember way back to when Toby and Celeste first arrived. What was the point of the time they drugged Mandy and th whole Celeste going after Romeo too. What did those scenes have to do with anything?

Posted by: Wall 15th September 2020, 09:44 PM

I think for the time being Hollyoaks are just airing 4 new episodes a week.

Posted by: Doug 17th September 2020, 07:41 PM

I really find myself warming to Juliet recently, Niamh Blackshaw's acting still isn't quite there yet but the coming to terms with her sexuality but still keeping Sid close and the romance with Peri is so interesting. I can't help but root for her now.

Victor's acting though, jesus... wooden doesn't cover it manson.gif

Posted by: jlj 17th September 2020, 10:42 PM

I think Niamh is one of the better cast members as Juliet tbh. Her character is played well for the age of the character and actress like her mannerisms are spot on for what someone of her age would act like. I do miss her characters scenes with Marnie as they had a real bond and brought out different sides to one another but Niamh could be a future star on the show if she decides to stay on there’s so much they could do with Juliet. She’s got a great heart deep down and she does really care and love those she’s close too.

Posted by: Monzo 18th September 2020, 07:55 AM

There are only two cast members whose acting I dislike right now: Jordan because off what he's (not) doing with his eyes. The other one is Toby whom I like, but when it comes to important acting, he just can't deliver.

We’re getting a new actor for the character of Ollie!

A shame because he’s one of the best ones in the show and the character was about to get another big storyline as he’s currently involved with the County Lines.

I hope it was the actors decision and that he wasn’t axed.

I feel like he was sacked

Posted by: jlj 24th September 2020, 07:38 PM

I’m thinking that there’s more to this which may be revealed soon.

He’s either going through something bad in his personal life which required him to exit the show immediately or he’s been sacked with immediate affect. A shame he’s been recast so soon though the actor genuinely was strong.

Stephanie Davis was lucky that they didn’t recast Sinead the time they sacked her on the spot as she got the chance to return and was great in her second stint. This actor won’t be getting that chance.

I’m done if nico is back

Posted by: jlj 28th September 2020, 07:55 PM

No idea what’s happened but Nico is better than most people in the show so I wouldn’t be against a return laugh.gif

Unrelated to recent episodes but does anyone know why Celeste went after Romeo when she first arrived and then again why she drugged Mandy. In her early episodes they portrayed her as some ruthless ring leader and a potential criminal yet they’ve now dropped that and made Toby a killer. What was the point in certain scenes did they really mean nothing.

Posted by: Monzo 29th September 2020, 08:22 AM

I'm confused about Celeste, too. For awhile I thought she and her brother were the real drug lords. And what about the book of Toby? They never mentioned it before, right?

All this surrogate stuff is old-fashioned. First, Liberty and Brody got too close, now she wants to keep the baby... I wish they had surprising twists in this storyline.

Posted by: jlj 29th September 2020, 08:42 AM

I’m a bit sad they didn’t make Celeste the real boss of the County Lines and had them not be Martines kids.

She’s far better at playing a ruthless kinda character than what Jordan and Victor are. Victor being the boss of Jordan is laughable the least convincing villain they’ve ever had even worse than that Bob character they had a few years back and he was woeful laugh.gif

Also the Tony storyline needs to end asap, all characters have became butchered and any fondness I had for Diane is over

Posted by: Liаm 30th September 2020, 08:07 PM

Diane has always been the absolute worst, just constant misery and whinging, when she's not got something of her own to be miserable about, her go-to is to pry and poke in someone else's life to moan and whinge about that instead.

Why do I kinda get the feeling Toby might kill the entire family lmao, it wouldn't be out of character for Hollyoaks and they're definitely spent characters imo. It always seemed odd to me they introduced Martine, Mitchell and Walter when Simone was leaving/had left.

They were proper hyping up the 25th anniversary I remember last year even though there was ages away at that point, I suppose Covid threw a spanner in the works though

Posted by: jlj 30th September 2020, 08:51 PM

Diane is very similar to Anna Windass from Corrie.

A character were probably supposed to root for but is just so miserable, hypocritical and a constant shouting harpy. A great actress lumbered with playing a character who’s awful in every way.

I’m another one who’s always liked Celeste but I’d still have rather had her reveal be that she was the County Lines boss and have her and Toby as an actual husband and wife and not siblings.

I’ve really not missed Ste one bit either but can tell he’ll hog screen time when he comes back. I hope he isn’t let off lightly though when he comes back. It’s always Poor ste he never ever faces up to anything he does. I hope all of Misbah, Yaz, Imran and Sami all don’t just let it go.

Posted by: Monzo 2nd October 2020, 08:21 AM

There are too many filler scenes right now. Even strong scenes are too long for my taste, so I lose emotional connection and just want to move on to the next scene.

Posted by: jlj 2nd October 2020, 10:54 AM

They really messed up casting Victor as some menacing type character you’re supposed to scared of.

One of the weakest villains they’ve ever had the accent makes me howl every time laugh.gif

Posted by: Monzo 13th October 2020, 08:43 AM

I enjoy Warren and Felix together, I like how fast they switch between drama and comedy, but what happened to Jamie Lomas? He looks as if he had aged 10 years during lockdown. Watching him in close-ups is no fun right now!

Posted by: jlj 13th October 2020, 06:45 PM

I’m still a bit iffy over them trying to make serial killer Warren this misunderstood loveable rogue type character when he’s literally not paid for a single crime he’s ever done and manages to own businesses and gain employment at the drop of a hat as well as making friends here there and everywhere.

A character who should’ve been left well in the past in my opinion. His peak was his first stint tbh.

Posted by: jlj 27th November 2020, 04:31 PM

I thought Mitchell was played by a great actor but his character was just so irritating beyond belief. His constant shouting and misery was just too much and him and Scott as a couple just didn’t at all click. I’d have much rather them put Mitchell with Azim (Sami’s brother) as it would’ve interesting to see the religious aspect from both families etc and then they actually sort of worked better together on screen too. I always felt like Mitchell and Scott was a rushed decision and was more down to the show wanting a exit for when Nadine who plays Cleo went on maternity than them seeing them as a long term couple.

I’ve watched the trailer again as I’m really excited to see how all the storylines bump to a dramatic peak around new year and I’m going to make a prediction for the death(s) -

Nancy will be the one in the body bag. She’s John Paul’s best friend and Charlie’s adopted mum/auntie and the busybody who is trying to get to the bottom of the drugs situation and we’ve seen how Victor treated Marnie, and I think she got off lightly. He’ll kill her, then when Charlie discovers that, he’ll kill Victor. This could explain his shock at Charlie at the end of the trailer and why his hands are covered in blood during his breakdown if he helps him hide the body, not to mention that he’ll be traumatised as he’s always loved Nancy. Wouldn’t be too mad at this either as Nancy has always wound me up despite great acting, definitely rather her than James which is everyone’s main prediction to die sadly.

Posted by: Wall 27th November 2020, 06:50 PM

I still feel like the death will be Jordan or Leela

The reason why John Paul is crying is because of the identity badge of Kiss.. Surely it wouldn’t be Nancy? I feel like her exit deserves a long running storyline but her death would rock the village. I just see her as the female Tony.

Posted by: jlj 27th November 2020, 07:20 PM

I don’t see Nancy ever being killed off tbh. She’s one of the rare HO characters who I’d say will be there until HO itself goes off air (the others being Tony, Jack, Darren, Ste sick2.gif and Mercedes).

Posted by: Doug 27th November 2020, 11:00 PM

While I see the points about her being long-running and needing a huge exit and there is no way she'd get killed off, do you not think this is a pretty huge storyline in its own right? Plus don't forget how Frankie (again, didn't like her but she was long-running too) got a randomly sudden fatal exit. I'm probably wrong but it would make sense.

It would kinda make sense but I dunno I think her exit may have leaked by now as she is a very key character to the show.

With Frankie her exit was definitely sudden on screen but it had been leaked that she was leaving so we knew that the character was leaving but we weren’t aware as viewers it would tie in with the school stunt week. I feel like Frankie deserved a bigger exit tbh though that was solely dedicated just to her.

The writing has been absolute horrific for this Tony and Diane story, three weeks ago Tony saying to Diane move on and now Tony saying I love you and your in love with me too

Posted by: LeGrinch 3rd December 2020, 08:11 PM

Also i really hope this isn’t Silas’s last hurrah but I feel like it is, I honestly feel like it’s time for Mercedes to go, it’s just a repeat of storylines but the mcqueens will struggle without her!

Posted by: troylovesmusic 3rd December 2020, 11:09 PM

I’m glad Edward is FIANLLY getting exposed soon . This whole storyline with Edwards/Tony/Diane has been a pain to watch .

Posted by: Doug 17th December 2020, 07:30 PM

WOW I did NOT see that coming at all, bravo Hollyoaks for pulling off a stunt that makes so much sense now it is explained but I am shook!! Can’t believe it’s the same actor as before too!!

Posted by: LeGrinch 17th December 2020, 09:06 PM

That was quite brilliant!

Hollyoaks really is one of the few soaps that pull of some incredible shocks, they’ve had a very strong year. I’m still raging they’ve brought back Lucy Allen who ruined Hollyoaks.

Posted by: Doug 23rd December 2020, 09:41 PM

Just watched the New Years episodes on All 4:

Ella killed Jordan and Charlie is covering for her.

Seriously the hour long episode was one HELL of a watch!! Such strong acting from all of the teens and kids, even Niamh Blackshaw really has shown how she's stepped up recently. I actually hope Juliet hasn't handed herself in because now there is real potential for her to grow.

On the other hand though as Victor managed to not be shown in the whole of the aftermath episode I hope his comeuppance comes as soon as possible, everything about the character is just terrible. Not quite sure where the storyline is going to go now that it's not resolved - that's my one critique for the two episodes uploaded.

Posted by: Monzo 25th December 2020, 05:44 PM

I just had to spoil myself. Looking forward to watch it. By the way, I enjoy Victor, but of course he's a character who has to go sooner or later.

Posted by: Doug 24th February 2021, 12:59 PM

There’s no way she’ll be dead. I read that she has a storyline coming up but can’t remember where, plus this is just a plot to make Summer have a bit more depth. Speaking of the latter, as messed up as she is and despite how much I love Sienna I kind of stan how much of a mess she is.

On another note it’s been a few weeks since that Dean was last on and is it bad I just want to see him return because his “acting” was hysterical? laugh.gif

omg yes

i want sienna to be with brody but messy sienna is the best. I think Sienna and brody will get back together after this too? I don't get how Brody is playing such a victim either, he slept with liberty and he didn't believe her about anything she said?

I can see when it comes out it was summer, summer will tell sienna if she mentions anything she will tell the police about brody attacking the dad.

Posted by: Doug 24th February 2021, 07:52 PM

Mark my words - Brody will not be in this show at the end of the year, he screams “character that has been around but ran his course, is a bit of a drip and being killed off would contribute to a big storyline”. I don’t want Sienna with either of them really as he is such a wet wipe but being back with Warren would just end up in disaster again.

After that episode though I can say I stan Summer SO hard oops.

Posted by: TalkAboutWall 24th February 2021, 09:01 PM

After that e4 episode I think brody doesn’t have long left too, I lowkey see Sienna and summer eventually teaming up which I’m here for

Also sienna and grace scenes !!

I’m going to be furious if Sid is dead. Just when you thought Victor would finally get gone...

Posted by: troylovesmusic 3rd March 2021, 12:26 AM

Yeah there dragging this Victor storyline out now he should have been caught . Sid/Ste and Perri should have also been smarter with tricking him and saved the confession on different devices .

Posted by: Doug 3rd March 2021, 07:49 PM

I totally agree, typical Hollyoaks for the writers to be like “oh conveniently even though it would have been safe to duplicate the footage we’re going to have them not to do it so they’ll have to start from square one”.

I’m heartbroken for Sid, he really was such a heroic young character who went on a journey and Billy is a fantastic young actor who I hope will get the recognition he deserves. I get why this death happened for the purpose of “the heroes don’t always get happy endings” but I’m still just so mad. This plus episodes 3 and 5 of It’s a Sin are easily the closest I’ve been to crying over a TV show in a long time.

I checked out a few years ago, is it even worse than it was then?

Posted by: Jord 28th September 2021, 07:53 PM

Everything’s so OTT and just not in anyway relatable or believable.

The annoying is Hollyoaks really can knock it out the park when they do issue led stories and tackle real issues or when they do special episodes (there was actually one recently where the episode only featured black characters on the show and that was one of if not the best episode all year) it soon went back to its OTT style of death and destruction with no follow up though.

I hope the new producer (they are getting one right i swear I read this) strips the show back. With soaps I feel less is more on occasion. I don’t mind a soap death if the aftermath / story is done well (like say Seb on Corrie) but with Hollyoaks there’s just too much of it. Like wtf was the point in Brody dying and we all know Warren won’t be punished as he’s king of the show.

Posted by: Billy. 28th September 2021, 08:06 PM

I definitely don’t think it’s worse than it was a few years ago, the last year of anything has been less OTT than ever. There was a time when characters were literally getting killed every other week with zero after math. Saying that I don’t think it’s very good either.

There’s a new producer (her episodes have been on screen since the end of June, I think) who previously oversaw the show when it was genuinely at it’s all time lowest in 2009.

Hollyoaks sacking an actress for doing porn.....

Yeah bit it's fine when they wear next nothing on set

Posted by: Ho-Lee Smokes 3rd November 2021, 08:56 PM

i understand it based that it’s a teen audience tbh

it’s a shame though as Mandy has been around for so long and it’s up to her what she does with her body, i’m not sure same would be said if roles were reversed, i’ll be interested to see how the randomly write mandy out!

Posted by: Billy. 3rd November 2021, 09:26 PM

Firstly it isn’t porn, although it’s on OF she is literally just posting suggestive pictures and racy ones

Secondly, how can Hollyoaks say that it doesn’t fit with its target audience when up until a few years ago they forced their cast members to post half naked every year for ‘hunks’ and ‘babes’ calendars? Absolutely hypocritical.

Posted by: .MIKE. 3rd November 2021, 10:21 PM

I’ve got to be honest .. the hypocrisy doesn’t sit right with me here..

Times have moved on, but as mentioned above - The Hollyoaks calenders.

& let’s be really honest here, it’s a show that has historically used sex as a selling point. So this whole thing doesn’t seem right.

I do get the argument about it being a show with a young audience.. but it’s only a year ago that certain cast members were accused of being racially insensitive and yet didn’t publicly receive any kind of ‘punishment’ ( for want of a better word)

So yeah.. none of this sits right with me.. especially as it’s her body and her choice..

Posted by: Mack. 4th November 2021, 05:39 PM

This is the same show that up until a few years ago used to produce 'hunks and babes' calendars, featuring many of the show's stars in a state of undress. Even though the calendars have now been discontinued, Hollyoaks still has the reputation of being the 'sexy soap', well known for characters often wearing very little clothing.

Posted by: Jord 4th November 2021, 06:44 PM

It’s a bit hypocritical as they used to do a calendar and they very often have characters (mainly male ones) appear topless regularly on the show.

Plus Lysette who plays Marnie was rumoured to be a racist bully wasn’t she which led to Rachel Adedeji leaving the show. Chelsee who plays Goldie as well also broke lockdown rules by attending a rave (at a time we were in a full lockdown I believe) I’d say both of those are greater offences than Only Fans.

Having said that though as soon as I seen she joined OF i thought this is clear contract breach what won’t end well.

Wonder if she’ll appear on Im A Celeb.

Posted by: Mack. 4th November 2021, 07:08 PM

If that's the case you may have fired someone every time they posed for 'lads magazines' back in the day. No-one did as far as I know. Ridiculous really.

I don’t agree with any of the death choices!

There were many, many characters who’d ran their course a long while ago who I’d have axed over any of the deaths we’ve had this week. I’m intrigued to know about the female characters and if they were axed like the male death or if it was the decision by the actresses.

She forgave Cher so why not forgive Tom ?

Posted by: Jord 24th February 2022, 12:38 AM

I do like Yaz but I was never really that sold on her and Tom as a couple.

Tom to me is a bit like Chesney in Corrie fine as a child character but as they got older they should’ve recast him.

The Maalik family are the best family unit the show has though for me! Every one of them can act and they also all have their own stories going in and can interact away from the family unit fine as well. The actress who plays Misbah especially has been fantastic lately I do hope she at least gets nominated at the Soap Awards for Best Actress or Dramatic Performance.

Re Becky I was actually sad to see her leave. I did know she wasn’t gonna be permanent based off the fact she was never in the opening titles but it was quite interesting to see a character like her on a soap a very current storyline of it too the racism aspect of it aimed at Serena (and anyone of Asian descent) as well I feel was also handled very sensitively the scenes where Honour stood up to her I feel we’re well acted and I did like seeing Katie McGlynn playing a character very different to her Corrie character too.

I’m really not ready to see Luke’s death happen though that will be one of the saddest episodes ever when it does happen cry.gif

One new episode will drop on All 4 every weekday morning, ahead of the E4 screening at 7pm that evening and the Channel 4 repeat at 6.30pm the following day.

Only from Channel 4, apparently E4 will still air it and episodes will be uploaded to Youtube.

Posted by: Moby Dick 8th September 2023, 02:58 PM

AXED!!!!!!

Hollyoaks will no longer broadcast weekdays on Channel 4 in a schedule change taking effect later this month.

The broadcaster has announced that the soap, which premieres episodes on E4 and its streaming service a day ahead of the main channel, will become the UK's first completely digital-first soap.

Posted by: Moby Dick 8th September 2023, 02:59 PM

Omg Liam beat me to it!!!

AXED!!! Its ratings were waaay too low for tv these days. They will have it all online, with a diminished budget, only to quietly get the full chop later on. No one is going to watch it online!!!

Double bill weekly Simpsons isn't bad though.

Posted by: YungGunnaMack 8th September 2023, 06:22 PM

Channel 4 is shaking up how it broadcasts its long-running soap Hollyoaks, by expanding onto YouTube while dropping its weekday episodes from the terrestrial channel.

The broadcaster announced last year it would take a streaming-first approach with the show, which is aimed at younger audiences.

Posted by: Moby Dick 8th September 2023, 06:25 PM

Aka: AXED!!!

Posted by: lewistgreen 8th September 2023, 06:37 PM

The First Look episodes attract the stans though, so I can see why they're doing this. It's not axed as First Look is still incredibly popular (not sure of figures but it was how I used to watch it anyway)

Posted by: Jord 8th September 2023, 09:45 PM

This surely can’t be good news as much as some soap writers / journalists have made it out to be on socials.

I can see it perhaps slogging along to reaching 30 years on air before it’s axed overall.

I wonder how it rates on the app itself as the C4 and E4 figures are very much on the low side even in the age of streaming shows at your own pace / pleasure.

I used to really love it for a time but it’s fallen so hard lately and it’s just not enjoyable at the moment. The writing is far from how it once was characters seem to just go around in circles (ANOTHER Mercedes affair, Warren constantly angry, James always needing some sort of enemy, Maxine always going through trauma, McQueens always skint).

We’ll see how this move shapes the show but the show itself needs to also revamp and have a more realistic approach.

Posted by: lewistgreen 21st January 2024, 03:51 PM

Decided to give the whole week a watch today and roll out the omnibus on streaming. I had no idea what's been doing on as I haven't watched it properly for years (think about 2018 was the last time) but recent return announcements peaked my interest.

I have to say for a stunt, the car crash scenes were relatively well executed if somewhat rather rushed? Ella dying was a massive shock and it took me a little while to figure out it was her that Ste hit before veering into the roundabout the wrong way round... There was one point when Ste got to the hospital that I thought he wasn't involved at all as he seemed so unfazed by it but I guess he just hadn't realised what he'd caused. I get that he was focused on Leah but how did he not see the crash behind him oop.

Theresa, Cleo and Myra returning was also a lovely surprise and I'm surprised they ended up in the car crash and came out unscathed! Cleo just rocking back up like she can have Joel all over again is comical kink.gif. I jumped out of my skin when Joel was run over as that was completely unexpected and I'll be surprised if he recovers from that considering how much of a hit it was.

The Sienna/Rafe stuff completely washed over me but I'm intrigued about Dilly and how she knows Patrick?? Are Dilly and Sienna supposed to be sisters? Guess we'll find out.

I can tell it's been a while since I watched it as the likes of Darren, Nancy, John-Paul etc are definitely older. Says a lot about me as I think Nancy and John Paul are only 3 years older than me in real life laugh.gif but it was rather comforting seeing them on screen with Mercedes, Warren, Tony. It's certainly nice to see them all still in it and churning away at the storylines. The kids all in their late teens now like Charlie, Ella, Leah, Lucas etc is hard to adjust to as well seeing as it's been so long since I saw them in it. I always thought Ela-May Demircan was fab as Leah as a kid but now she's really grown into the role and I can see such a great actress there!

Hannah returning on Friday with Darren's (now teenage!) children is making me want to continue on this path of watching it each week as that's a cliffhanger worth sticking around for.

I've seen Rita Simons is joining in a recast role as Joel's mum which is a great opportunity to see her on screen again as I always loved her in EE. Freddie Roscoe is also returning which I wouldn't have ever thought to have happened so it might be worth sticking with.

It would seem an Executive Producer change that happened last year was much needed. Lucy Allan returning in 2020 was a choice looking into it just now, she certainly wasn't iconic the first time she did it in 2009 (especially the students in university halls good lord). Hannah Cheers and Angelo Abela seem like a good fit for developing characters in the show hence the returns so I might just see how this plays out.

Renewed by Channel 4, but will reduce to 3 episodes a week from September.

Posted by: Anita Hanjaab 29th February 2024, 04:17 PM

Ufff!!!! It really is on its last legs

Posted by: Padamic Tension 29th February 2024, 11:18 PM

It does feel like the show is hanging on by a thread but in a way even though i dont watch the show, i agree with 3 episodes and i think all the soaps would benefit from all only doing 3 episodes as for anyone into all the soaps there is a huge amount of weekly episodes to get through.

Posted by: lewistgreen 3rd March 2024, 05:13 PM

As someone who has recently got back into the show I can understand the change financially but reducing to 3 episodes and only 20 mins each in length will mean drastic changes. It would seem around 135 jobs are at risk as a result of this change which is no small number. It's likely we will have a lot of the cast departed or reduced to recurring roles. Not sure how any of this will transpire on screen but it's quite a big blow despite the good news that the show has been renewed.

Posted by: Anita Hanjaab 3rd March 2024, 05:28 PM

Are the episodws 30 mins at the moment? Even EE episodes are 20/25 mins

I agree with Dot - all soaps would benefit from being 3x a week

Yeah, that's rhe bad part - ir wilñ feel very streamlined and less "real" with far fewer characters for a village.

Time to knock it on the head.

Posted by: Anita Hanjaab 4th March 2024, 09:06 PM

Nah, just 3x a week and a reduced budget. They can go back to basics

Posted by: Liаm 22nd March 2024, 02:05 PM

I’m recently back to watching and honestly I think it’s pretty good! I think it could be a good thing to have less episodes though, I find that they hyper focus on a storyline all week and then those characters vanish a bit and you don’t see much of them so the pacing of storylines can be odd. Like you’re getting into a storyline and then it just isn’t seen again for ages.

They’ve announced that there will be a one year time jump to explain the cast exits and cuts, which could be interesting! I wonder if they will go for a big refresh and focus on new characters like Kitty and Marie, or will they just strengthen their family units and focus on the Hutchinsons and Osbornes. I feel like a lot of the characters who aren’t in a larger family unit like Lizzie and Dave, Ethan, Zoe, Pearl, Sharon and Liberty do feel underdeveloped or underused so they could easily cut those kind of characters, I just hope they don’t waste the potential of characters like Kitty or Abe, I know they will keep Marie due to Rita Simons being a big name signing.

Return confirmed for Grace Black

Posted by: Mack. 27th March 2024, 12:01 AM

Apparently there is going to be a mass axing of 20 characters....

Posted by: Padamic Tension 27th March 2024, 12:27 AM

I read about the 20 characters been axed, even though i dont watch the show i just feel its going like Brookside in a way that you could see the end coming a good while before it was actually confirmed.

Posted by: Liаm 27th March 2024, 05:33 PM

There doesn’t feel like there’s enough characters to do that without it being an absolute death knell to the show, it could work but I can’t see it being as easy as that.

Although by chucking the deadwood who have been in the show a while and still not really come to anything (Zain, Dave and his family, Pearl/Sharon/sadly Zoe, Vicky, Beau, Dilly, Liberty, lowkey a few of the teens but they’re tied to the core families) you probably have a good half or more of the 20 sewn up. I do worry they will cull the interesting new characters like Kitty and Abe, both kind of feel like they have a potential shelf life with the storylines they’re in so I don’t know how they would survive a time jump.

I can see them maybe just basically centring the show on the McQueens/Hutchinsons/Osbournes then maybe keeping like Maxine, Sienna and Misbah in their own little corners, and maybe they hold on to some of the newer faces and allow them to develop. I think they could chop the deadwood, trim the main families a bit (get rid of Beau, Hunter and Prince), and I think they can get to the 20 without too much damage but it does feel very Brookside and I don’t think it will be that straight forward. I could see a couple of the big names/mainstays jumping ship and that could be a death knell if they’re left with either boring characters or newbies that people aren’t invested in.

Already confirmed to be leaving is Sharon, I do expect Pearl and Zoe to follow tbh

Posted by: lewistgreen 27th March 2024, 06:45 PM

I'm really intrigued to see how all of this is going to pan out on screen. Hollyoaks going back to a smaller cast will literally strip it right back to where it started. I do think people will switch off if we have just some core families so having extra characters who support/aren't tied to a family would certainly allow the show to retain its diversity which has always been its strong point but allow for multiple storylines too.

Posted by: Liаm 27th March 2024, 08:17 PM

It’s bold but honestly I’d be more inclined to get rid of the bulk of the core families and keep the diverse/interesting characters, like we don’t really need Darren, Jack and Nancy if we’re being honest, and frankly even a chunk of the McQueens (Cleo, Hunter, Prince, even John Paul tbh) as blasphemous to HO as that may sound laugh.gif I can’t see the show being around in a few years anyway sadly so I kind of think they should go more bold, lean into the diversity and exciting storylines rather than just relying on stale characters that have been around for ages.Hollyoaks has always been bold and taken risks, done things no show would ever do, so why should they stop now?

Posted by: Liаm 2nd April 2024, 09:29 PM

The evil heinous Diane being a TERF is the least surprising thing ever tbh

Posted by: lewistgreen 5th April 2024, 07:09 PM

Glynis Barber and Rita Simons sharing scenes together again is nothing short of iconic

Posted by: Liаm 8th April 2024, 06:39 PM

Cindy to be the first big axing confirmed, really surprised at that and that means I highly doubt Dave or Mason will stay, Lizzie I could maybe see standing on her own especially with her presumably having Freddie’s baby

Posted by: Jordanlee 8th April 2024, 06:49 PM

I don’t feel too optimistic of who the cast cull will be impacting if that’s the first name we’re losing.

I have a real hunch that it’s the characters who *need* axing who are gonna end up staying. I just really hope that the character mentioned above gets a real exit and isn’t just mentioned as having moved on as part of the time jump. They’ve put a insta post up and in there it’s revealed that They aren’t being killed off but yeah this is really an awful decision.

Warren, Scott and Sharon are also said they're leaving

I don't think Cindy is a big shock - she isn't part of a family, or larger group and therefore is expendable.

I'd imagine anyone outside of the Osbornes, Hutchinson, Hay and McQueen units are likely to be heading for an axe.

The remaining Chen Williams and I reckon the remaining Maaliks barring Dillon will be gone - Dillon being saved due to the Lucas storyline. The time jump will probably see them in a couple.

I can see the McQueens being cut down - hopefully the Goldie, Prince, Hunter strand will be going.

Posted by: Liam.k. 8th April 2024, 10:21 PM

Shocked to hear that Cindy has been axed, I know there’s some tough decisions to be made with so many cast and crew required to be axed due to the reduction in episodes, but I would have thought someone that had been with the show for nearly 30 years would be immune. I get Hollyoaks has a much higher turnover than the other three soaps but familiarity with characters that viewers have grown up with and followed their journeys over a number of years is what has kept viewing figures up for as long as they have done and you would think Hollyoaks would take notice of this given it’s basically on the verge of being axed.

The only thing that makes me think this is actually unlikely is this would leave Hollyoaks axing nearly every non-white cast member. Especially if it is indeed the Goldie strand of the McQueens who are also trimmed.

With that racism scandal only a couple of years back, I'd think Hollyoaks would tread more carefully on that one.

Posted by: Mack. 10th April 2024, 03:58 PM

Why axe Cindy, this show has had its day for me.

Posted by: Liаm 10th April 2024, 10:10 PM

With a lot of characters coming back, idk it feels like they are chasing nostalgia a bit too much and not focusing on what they’ve got. They could easily cut deadwood and still keep interesting characters but with who’s gone so far I worry it could go the other way and they kind of have underdeveloped characters they’ve wasted for the last few years and it would just be a weird balance. Part of what makes HO good and fresh is that there are lots of characters and they aren’t always in the forefront, it’s paced well so you get a good mix of dynamics and storylines before anything feels too stale. I feel like focusing on less people, that won’t be the case?

For cuts potentially I’d probably go:
Dilly - unless they really give her a stable relationship and set her up, or a business in the village, or something I don’t see the point. She’s just there faffing around the mansion laugh.gif
Carter/Freya - she’s pointless and I think he should have some kind of dramatic commupance, I hope the time skip doesn’t put him with John Paul as yet another doomed relationship.
Norma - without Warren, what need is there for her really, as fab as Glynis is.
Beau - the Hutchinsons have enough with Ro’s storyline and the other two being older as well with the time skip could provide more storylines, there’s a strong crop of young actors coming up
Zain - I’d be astounded if him and Misbah made it through the time skip as a couple and what else will he do really?
Mason/Dave - I could make a case for Lizzie given Freddie getting her pregnant but I wouldn’t be that upset if she went too, although I don’t mind her
Ethan - since I’ve been watching again, he’s been pretty pointless
Pearl/Zoe - love Zoe but they really have squandered this family unit at least from what I’ve seen
Maxine and John Paul - for similar reasons, both classics but they are the kinds of characters where you just seem to watch the same circles of misery like the writers don’t know what else to do with them
JJ/Suzanne - obvious shelf life on JJ, I could see Suzanne leaving Frankie with Darren and Nancy to bolster their family unit a bit

There is quite a lot of deadwood but it’s a shame they’ve spent years not developing these characters and then just cut them quite cruelly.

I do like the time jump idea as that was really good for Neighbours when it came back, but I worry they will just use it as an excuse to not say anything about how or why people left, instead of the kind of missing pieces vibe that Neighbours had which kept you watching to fill in the blanks of certain storylines.

I’d be astounded if Zoe and Pearl survived the cut, especially with Sharon going, I’m not sure they would bring Goldie back soon just to cut her, but they could bring her back to wrap up things I guess and the boys leave too. That only leaves the Maliks and Vicky with her brother and dad. When I look at things the way I have in this post, they’ve given a lot of the non white characters the square root of f*** all to work with lately!

Isabelle Smith who plays Frankie is absolutely out of this world!

I don't even watch Hollyoaks but the JJ and Frankie storyline has been popping up on my tiktok and I'm hooked on it, the girl who plays Frankie is phenomenal, she is what makes it so compelling - I don't know if it's enough to commit me to watching this regularly as well but I'll definitely be keeping tabs on this to see how it plays out

Agreed. She grated on me A LOT in January but in such a short space of time has shown just how great she is, this week in particular has been really strong.

Posted by: lewistgreen 22nd April 2024, 07:46 PM

Does it often happen when they 'age up' the teens? Watching tonight's episode Darren said Frankie is 15 and Lucas is 16. Frankie and JJ were born in 2011 so they'd actually be 13 now and Lucas born in 2009 making him now 15.. I guess it's sad to question it because it's a soap but it really threw me off, especially Frankie.

Not sure if this has been confirmed but an exit is confirmed for Hunter.

A return is confirmed for Robbie Roscoe

Some positive news on viewership since the producer change late last year and the crash week.

QUOTE
Building on a huge hour-long crash episode back in January, Hollyoaks has experienced 40% growth in streaming episodes year-on-year and achieved 5.8 million minutes of watchtime on YouTube for the first quarter.

January's crash-themed special episode was Hollyoaks' most-streamed instalment since 2020, up 62% on the average from the previous four weeks.

The soap has also found major success on social media, as Snapchat viewers have increased 350% year-on-year and TikTok viewership is up 116%. In March, there were 194 million viewers across the show's social platform.

I've just checked and you put it in the Geordie Shore thread

Oh laugh.gif

Well great news about the ratings!!! Look like the show might be out of the woods for now.

Posted by: Long Dong Silver 27th April 2024, 03:48 PM

Also Hannah coming back as a sex worker is ICONIC!!! And the son of her dead best friend, the woman she grew up with!!!!, trying to sleep with her is just LOL!!! Glad she didn't though, as it would have been wrong on so many levels. Also, why does Hollyoaks not have a college, but a super strict sixth form?!

But since when are Lucas and Dillan gay? The last storyline I saw of thode two was them trying to impress girls on a camping trip with Jack.

Posted by: Linds. 27th April 2024, 10:28 PM

Pretty sure Dillan is pansexual and Lucas is closeted and struggling to accept that he's gay? Is there not a conversation therapy storyline going on as well that Lucas is involved in with the teacher?

I really do need to start watching this properly bc I just watch clips on tiktok but it always seems to be the Dillan/Lucas storyline I see or Frankie and JJ

Although I did see Miss Roxie Mitchell crawling about some bins?? wub.gif
