So yep, after doing this rate with the intention to get an Alexandra Burke single into the rate winners of 2020 rate (coz I don't think she has enough singles to warrant her own rate </3) and having 3 entries end up top 5, NONE of them can score a win.. cheeseblock.png

At number 2 is All Night Long. In my opinion, this is Alexandra's best song. It was always the highlight from her debut album for me and gave me HUGE 'We Break The Dawn' by Michelle Williams vibes (which was one of my songs of 2008). That pulsing, 80's inspired synth bassline is undeniable. I was ecstatic to see that they released this as the 3rd single and gave it a "single mix" because they realised that to get people talking about it and purchasing it, they needed to remix it somewhat. Is this one of the earliest "single mixes", where they added a rapper (which really became common in the 2010's!)? An absolute STORMER of a pop song. I am surprised it finished out the top Alexandra Burke single as I assumed it was going to be 'Bad Boys' tbh! SO unlucky sad.gif But she lost out to a great song...

Comfortably beating the competition is Ella Henderson's debut single Ghost. Ella Henderson finished 6th in the 2012 version of X Factor and was the "shock exit" of that year. Many had tipped her to get comfortably through to the finals, even win, but she was controversially kicked out of the competition by "deadlock" as the judges were split evenly on Ella and James Arthur (who went on the win the whole thing) as they both were shockingly in the bottom 2. But Ella went away and returned in Summer 2014 and literally said NOT ON MY WATCH, BITCH and gave us the STORMING single 'Ghost'. It was a HUGE Worldwide smash where it went to number 1 in the UK & Ireland and was a top 40 hit in most other places, including #21 on the US Billboard Hot 100! It was co-written and produced by the mastermind Ryan Tedder (who elevated to HUGE success with Leona's 'Bleeding Love') and we have a rate of his songs going on in the pop forum RIGHT NOW. I really wanted All Night Long to win out of the top 5. 'Ghost' is ok enough but poor Burke. She did amazingly here regardless though - 3 songs in the top 5? We are not worthy clap.gif

Alex really was the best thing to come out of the X Factor along with Leona, it's such a shame she didn't have more success but she seems to have done well on the West End right?

That could work tbh though!

I’m surprised that they didn’t try and get Alex a Xmas track tbh so she’d always get some form of chart success each year. Leona will always get that now thanks to One More Sleep.

Alexandra did well taking 3 of the top 5 slots but really happy ghost won and a comfortable win aswell.
