Gold Forever

Glad You Came

Posted by: Jack Sykes Feb 9 2011, 06:46 PM

March? ohmy.gif I though teentoday had previously said April.

Not sure on the song title, but excited to hear this, hopefully it's not been too rushed. And at least they're releasing in time to perform it on the tour when I go see them in April biggrin.gif

edit: Thursday as in, tomorrow Thursday? ohmy.gif

Posted by: troylovesmusic Feb 9 2011, 06:52 PM

Noo the same time as parade louder not that parade were gonna get number 1 but is annoying i swear there both on the same label

Posted by: Sabrina. Feb 9 2011, 07:06 PM

Parade are released on the 6th according to the release schedule, so I don't think they will actually be going up against each other

I only just realised tommorow is Thursday laugh.gif .. But yep I think the first play is tomorrow. I keep thinking it will sound like Golden from their album

Posted by: Lukuzz Feb 9 2011, 07:08 PM

Gold Forever? so the album getting a re-release?

Hmmm..

Posted by: martyn Feb 9 2011, 07:09 PM

Hello The Wanted, I was just wondering have you heard of an album known as "Wordshaker".... nope didn't think you had. Anyway.....

I see your point, but I'm not too worried because JLS still did ok releasing their 2nd album just a year after the 1st.

Hope it doesn't sound too much like 'Golden', I can't really remember how that goes laugh.gif

And yes, it's supposed to be a full new album.

Posted by: Liam Germanotta. Feb 9 2011, 07:29 PM

It's a bit soon for another album really, Martyn is correct with the Wordshaker refrence! tongue.gif Still I will be looking forward to hearing this on tommorow even though I'll give it like 2 or 3 listens before Lady Gaga totally upstages them on Friday wub.gif I enjoyed the album too, can't help thinking of Golden with this title kink.gif

Posted by: Aled. Feb 9 2011, 07:30 PM

Why does clashing with Parade matter? 'Louder' scrapping into the top 30 by the skin of it's teeth is it's best posibility surely?

Posted by: Sabrina. Feb 9 2011, 07:54 PM

I don't think the album will flop like Wordshaker, but at the same time I don't know if you can really compare how successful they will be to JLS either as their debut album sold 1.3 million, whereas The Wanted have sold 300,000

I think it might go top 10, top 20 is more likely. The Wanted will probs go number 1, top 5 at the very least.

Posted by: Robot. Feb 9 2011, 08:32 PM

it's the comic relief song apparently.

Posted by: Sabrina. Feb 9 2011, 08:36 PM

Oh that makes more sense then

Posted by: Kuki Sanban Feb 9 2011, 08:38 PM

Oh right! I was going to say, this all a bit sudden otherwise laugh.gif

Posted by: Liam Germanotta. Feb 9 2011, 08:43 PM

Even more chance of no. 1 then happy.gif I thought Take That's Kidz was CR single, but obviously not biggrin.gif

Posted by: Jack Sykes Feb 9 2011, 08:45 PM

If this is the comic relief single, does that mean it could be a bonus track on the upcoming album, but not the official lead single?

Posted by: Lukuzz Feb 9 2011, 11:06 PM

Oh that would make sense, would be too early for a new album!

Posted by: gooddelta Feb 10 2011, 10:07 AM

I knew it! I commented a couple of weeks back in a thread that I expected The Wanted would do the Comic Relief single this year, they always pick a current boyband or girlband!

Posted by: Lukuzz Feb 10 2011, 10:30 AM

Here's the song.

I like it, sounds really good, need to hear a HQ version though!

Posted by: Arrs Feb 10 2011, 11:00 AM

I'm not sure so far... HQ is what I need. So far it is about 6-7/10.

Posted by: Jonjo Feb 10 2011, 01:01 PM

Really liking the sound of it tbh! Can't wait to hear a better quality version biggrin.gif

Posted by: David Feb 10 2011, 01:53 PM

I think it's pretty dire tbh. sad.gif

Posted by: Silver Rocket Feb 10 2011, 02:07 PM

I also think it sounds dreadful, but I'll wait to hear a better quality version before I decide for sure.

Posted by: martyn Feb 10 2011, 02:08 PM

It's alright, but i fell like the comic relief song should be fun like JCGE was. Can only hope they take a hint from the JCGE video and parade around in not very much wink.gif

Posted by: Jonjo Feb 10 2011, 02:13 PM

AT LEAST IT'S AN ORIGINAL SONG, GUYS! sad.gif

It should - both the song and the video should be funny. These days it's just an excuse for a resting pop act to have a number one between albums with a throwaway single.

Posted by: Kuki Sanban Feb 10 2011, 04:27 PM

I quite like it. Not as instant as ATL, but I think it could be a bit of a grower happy.gif

Posted by: Sabrina. Feb 10 2011, 04:29 PM

It's pretty much a song that you would expect them to release, but on first listen I like it

Posted by: Jack Sykes Feb 10 2011, 04:31 PM

I think it works pretty well as a charity single, but it wouldn't be as good if it was the lead single for album #2. I do like it, but will need a better quality version before I bother downloading.

edit: There is a better quality version on their YT page now, so people can judge properly.

Posted by: katielicious Feb 10 2011, 06:09 PM

I thought it was promising the first time I played it but after a few more listens I've begun to love it. The strings give it an extra dimension.

Posted by: chart wizard Feb 10 2011, 07:40 PM

I quite like it actually after a few listens biggrin.gif glad its original - there have been so many covers for this sort of thing

Posted by: danielG Feb 10 2011, 07:53 PM

Is it just me or have they ripped off SHM in the dance part of the song. Anyway, song's bad as usual for a charity song, but it will get to number one anyway on fanbase buys alone and the few people who buy the comic relief single to give money to comic relief (when they could just donate money without buying a single)

Posted by: Jonjo Feb 11 2011, 12:06 AM

OK. After listening to the one on their youtube page, this is pretty fantastic!

Don't get the hate.

Posted by: Swagger91 Feb 11 2011, 11:18 PM

It's not a bad song, just very run of the mill and very boring zzz.gif

Posted by: Born Liam's Way Feb 12 2011, 01:29 AM

I pretty much with Sabrina and Jack, it's pretty predictable yet it works as a charity single. I don't mind it, but I'd be expecting more if it wasn't a charity single if I'm honest. But I'll let it off as charity singles as mostly far from an artists best.

Posted by: Born Chris Way Feb 12 2011, 04:39 PM

Boring.

Posted by: Sabrina. Feb 14 2011, 09:58 PM

They've been going on about a track their doing with Bruno Mars, but apparently Tom just confirmed that it's Before It Explodes, which Alexandra Burke also recorded.. So their basically getting her leftovers ?

Posted by: Jack Sykes Feb 14 2011, 10:02 PM

With Bruno Mars? I'd read on TeenToday that he'd sent them one song that may or may not make the album, but that made it sound like he'd just sent them a song (that hadn't been recorded by anyone else), but that he wouldn't feature on it.

Hope they don't get leftovers, their first album already had a couple of filler tracks, don't want a load of average stuff sad.gif

Posted by: Born Liam's Way Feb 14 2011, 10:10 PM

mellow.gif NO! THEY CANNOT HAVE BIE!!!!!! drama.gif I love that song, one of my fave Alex tracks although it missed being on Overcome! ohmy.gif As much as I love these guys, the song won't suit them... sad.gif

Posted by: Sabrina. Feb 14 2011, 10:11 PM

Yeh I'm pretty sure Bruno won't be featuring on the track, but I'd seen a few articles about it and thought they would actually be in the studio working together rather than recording a leftover track

Posted by: Jack Sykes Feb 22 2011, 09:02 PM

Posted by: SomeoneLikeLiam Feb 22 2011, 09:14 PM

Love that cover! happy.gif Shame the song's pretty boring!

Posted by: Sabrina. Feb 24 2011, 05:55 PM

I haven't really connected with this as much as their previous singles.. Does anyone know when they'll be releasing a video for this ?

Posted by: Klumzeeta-Jones Feb 24 2011, 05:56 PM

It's up there with ATL for me at the moment, those 'horn sounds' remind me of beachballs... laugh.gif

Posted by: THEO. Feb 24 2011, 09:50 PM

HQ rip has leaked. biggrin.gif It sounds a lot better now. happy.gif I will be buying it once available though. biggrin.gif

You need to have WinRAR installed on your computer - it's brilliant! Once you've downloaded that, you click to download the file and choose "open with winRAR". Then you extract the files to a folder of your choice and put it on iTunes or whatever! happy.gif

Can someone please send me a link for this? I have the remixes in HQ but the Radio Edit stops half way through the song :S

Posted by: Jack Sykes Mar 4 2011, 05:58 PM

Posted by: Hayzayy Mar 4 2011, 06:16 PM

I'd like to do stuff with one or two of them.

That's as far as I'm interested in them now. The album had some BRILLANT tracks on it, but this Comic Relief is forgettable and they sound so last year now.

Posted by: Sabrina. Mar 4 2011, 07:13 PM

The video is ok, but with the song.. I can't help but think they had better songs on their album

Posted by: Electro Paradise Mar 5 2011, 03:36 PM

The song isn't as good as I first thought when I heard it a few weeks back, but I really like the video! No doubt it will do very well for them. smile.gif

Posted by: lee wallace Mar 5 2011, 07:44 PM

Posted by: Jack Sykes Mar 6 2011, 08:40 PM

As if the official comic relief single would flop laugh.gif

Posted by: lee wallace Mar 6 2011, 08:41 PM

I will not be buying this song, I'm doing many things for comic relief.. but i don't wish to endure the worst song of 2011.

Posted by: Rossco Mar 6 2011, 10:09 PM

LOVING! this tune

Posted by: shadow2009 Mar 6 2011, 10:30 PM

Nice song but at in the video they seem very camp. Too much focus on Max, too.

Posted by: Karma Mar 6 2011, 10:47 PM

Max is the lead singer, and even from a guys point of view, he's the best looking guy in the group so thats probably why he's the frontman.
Not too fussed on the song, bit cheesy, hope it raises a lot of money though.

Posted by: Kuki Sanban Mar 7 2011, 01:08 PM

Awww I really like the video. Nice bit of bromance laugh.gif

Posted by: Aled. Mar 7 2011, 05:19 PM

I'm still not as taken with this as I've been with their other singles but it's growing on me. Watching the video for the first time too, renounced my faith that at least 60% of them are raging homos.

Next single is called 'Lightning', they're performing it on the tour so there should be live versions on YT. Ed Drewett has writing credits, as he did with 'All Time Low'.

Posted by: Regina Mar 27 2011, 10:18 PM

Another Ed track? Yay cheer.gif but I want him to release his own album now sad.gif

Do you know when it's being released and is their an album coming straight after ?

I'm guessing a new single and album in May/June, but it seems really soon considering it will be only around 7/8 months since they released their debut

Posted by: Swagger91 Mar 28 2011, 10:32 AM

I'm not holding out much hope for their second album. They started off so good but they're so amazingly dull and unoriginal that I can't really see them lasting much longer.

Posted by: Jaack Sykes Mar 28 2011, 03:25 PM

That sounds about right for the single, but I think they might release another single in October time, and then the album straight after that? Then one single after the album like with the debut?...could help sales, if they have 4 singles.

I think they might have a similar release strategy with this album that Tinie Tempah had with his 'Discovery' album. First single in February/March, second single in June, third single in September followed by the album.

Posted by: zero Mar 28 2011, 03:42 PM

I really don't think they do. They sound crap live and on the records their voices are so heavily autotuned and processed that they all sound like the same person.

Despite all this slagging off I do like them though laugh.gif

Posted by: gezza76 Mar 28 2011, 08:15 PM

All Time Low and Losing My Mind are great- can't stand Heart Vacancy though- as for Gold Forever- I struggle to connect with it- seems like a song in search of a chorus

Posted by: Sabrina. May 23 2011, 08:36 AM

This is their 2nd single from the 2nd album and is due for release on the 10th July

Posted by: FM11 May 23 2011, 08:44 AM

They're back already with a new single? Hoping this is good (like all their other singles).

Posted by: ▲▲▲ May 23 2011, 11:51 AM

Filth.

Posted by: ElectroBoy May 23 2011, 12:03 PM

Quite a risky song title wink.gif

Interesting to see how this does tbh - HV kinda bombed after the number 2 entry, LMM did ok - but nothing spectacular and GF was helped greatly by Children in Need.

So I wonder how this will fair

Posted by: Jaack Sykes May 23 2011, 03:22 PM

Interesting. Thought it would be 'Lightening' which they did on the tour and seemed to get a very good reception.

I expect to really like it, but the title makes me think of a ballad/slower song, when I was wanting something faster.

edit: Looking at the date, not OA/OS then, and we should get a 3rd single before the album biggrin.gif

Posted by: Liаm May 23 2011, 06:32 PM

Rather looking forward to this, I really enjoyed the first album but was very dissapointed with GF, so I hope this is a return to form! I agree as well that it should sound like LMM and not GF/HV.

Posted by: Sabrina. May 24 2011, 07:11 AM

Just heard this on Radio 1. I really like it on first listen.. It's a dancey ballad if that makes sense ?

& The video is being filmed in Ibiza. It's a good track for the Summer

Posted by: Swagger91 May 24 2011, 08:49 AM

It's ok but it sounds like everything else they've done.

Posted by: Sabrina. May 24 2011, 10:24 AM

Posted by: Lukuzz May 24 2011, 11:29 AM

Really like it on first listen. But it is very similar to all of their other songs.

Posted by: Jaack Sykes May 24 2011, 11:42 AM

Really liked it, and it'll probably grow too because it's not like I expected.

Posted by: THEO. May 24 2011, 11:46 AM

Sounds incredibly poor on the first listen, and like a bad re-hash of 'Gold Forever'. Knowing me I'll end up loving it eventually, before looning over the album. laugh.gif

Posted by: ElectroBoy May 24 2011, 12:23 PM

For me it sounds like Gold Forever Mark II

Uber Cheesy lyrics on a Eurodance beat - dunno how well this will do actually.

Its not the catchiest of songs either - maybe it'll grow on me

Posted by: martyn May 24 2011, 12:58 PM

I am not too fond of that atm. Also kept laughing everytime they sang "i'll make you glad you came" haha!

Posted by: lee wallace May 24 2011, 01:48 PM

I really hope Wanted flop wub.gif
Uhhh, just heard it I kinda like it sad.gif

Posted by: gooddelta Jun 4 2011, 09:51 AM

Really growing on me, quicker than the JLS song anyway!

The diet Stereo Love hook really works, it's still MOR enough to appeal to the Heart audience, but current enough to appeal to Radio 1 and Capital listeners...and without becoming another tedious 'club banger'. My favourite single of theirs since All Time Low definitely!

Posted by: Hayzayy Jun 4 2011, 10:57 AM

The first album was actually quite good, so it's sad to see they come up with such poor efforts now.
Rubbish.

Posted by: JakeyShake Jun 5 2011, 04:10 PM

I have a feeling this will do very well in the summer. I can see it being number one for at least 2 weeks.

Posted by: lee wallace Jun 5 2011, 04:51 PM

I really like the chorus but realistically it's very poor!
The song itself is quite catchy but it's poor. I doubt this will be top 3.

Posted by: Le Vülkid Jun 5 2011, 05:47 PM

I quite like it! A bit of a Stereo Love/On The Floor rehash, but it's quite catchy and sweet and cute. I reckon this will be great as a Summer tune.
Miles better than JLS' RedOne thing.

Posted by: Le Vülkid Jun 5 2011, 05:48 PM

And obviously I'm gonna use the "I'll make you glad you came" line from now on with my dates. biggrin.gif

Posted by: chart wizard Jun 5 2011, 06:09 PM

this is decent, although very similar sounding to Gold Forever with a bit of Stereo love thrown in, the chorus reminds me of another song but I'm not sure which unsure.gif this is better than the new JLS song anyway

Posted by: Rooney Jun 5 2011, 11:11 PM

Music Video:

Posted by: Jaack Sykes Jun 10 2011, 04:08 PM

Does the job, goes well with summer and I think it could do very well now with the right amount of promo. Probably not my favourite video that they've done - but it's very hot biggrin.gif

Posted by: ▲▲▲ Jun 10 2011, 04:21 PM

I cannot take this song seriously.

Posted by: JakeWild Jun 10 2011, 04:29 PM

Is this real life?

I really dunno what to think of this. It just seems wrong on so many levels. I usually get addicted to their songs on first listen but I'm not that keen on this one. Though I'll no doubt be back in a week or so when I have 142 plays of it sad.gif

Posted by: ▲▲▲ Jun 10 2011, 04:35 PM

Posted by: martyn Jun 10 2011, 07:45 PM

Still find the song HILARIOUS. But seriously who was paid to make that video? Either way Director X, whoever that is deserves an award for font he used at the start and the end, made me laugh.... alot.

Posted by: Sabrina. Jun 10 2011, 07:47 PM

Pretty sure that font was used on one of their single/album covers too

I really like the song.. the video does make me cringe slightly though

Posted by: ElectroBoy Jun 10 2011, 08:21 PM

The

Certainly a way to end a video biggrin.gif

Posted by: Aled. Jun 10 2011, 08:30 PM

Mixed feelings on this. On the one hand, you can never go that wrong with topless boyband members. On the other hand, considering the ridiculous title and the gazillion of gay jokes made possible because of it I was hoping for something a bit more Take That - Pray purely for the hilarity. Though I suppose had the video been even more cringy than it is now then the world probably couldn't cope. Highlights for me would be how 'uncle at a wedding' Jay looks dancing with the girl and the fact Nathan looks 12 and therefore very much so out of place.

Posted by: Bray Jun 10 2011, 08:34 PM

I do actually quite like this. Seems like a bit of a quiet return for them though. When is this out? Would be interesting if it peaked at #4 as, ignoring LMM obviously, their singles have gone 1 - 2 - 3 so far.

Posted by: ElectroBoy Jun 10 2011, 08:36 PM

The video is quite bad (quick everyone jump together in a line - its the chrous) - I really don't know if this will do well... the title is just really laughable tbh and I dont think its going to do their credibility (what there is of it) any good at all.

It would probably work better as an instrumental tbh - that or a change of chorus to something less comical.

Posted by: RC741 Jun 10 2011, 10:14 PM

So far I'm not liking this song - the only Wanted song I've properly liked was Heart Vacancy. Might be a grower, but I doubt it sad.gif

Haha I know!

But it's so damn catchy. I hate how they sound so BRITISH on it though. I know they are (and obviously they shouldn't put on fake accents!) but it just all sounds so wrong. No-one else has mentioned it though so perhaps it's only something that annoys me. Oh well.

its not great..but id rather this lot at the top over jls

Posted by: Jonjo Jun 11 2011, 01:30 AM

Still can't get into the song. I do love the instrumental though, but the chorus is a bit of an anti-climax and lets the song down. The whole thing just sounds like it repeats itself for 3 minutes though. I still prefer JLS' new one. sad.gif

Really liked this video. I wish I was in Ibiza too. cool.gif

Posted by: -Irish-Ladd- Jun 11 2011, 03:38 PM

They don't take many risks as a band do they? I do like The Wanted, but they're becoming a bit predictable. I hope this 2nd album flops BIG TIME (like Wordshaker) and then they have to build their way back up, and maybe put a bit of hard work and effort into their music. It all seems a bit as if their management say 'Right boys, here's your new song. We're filming the video in Ibiza with girls so bring sunscrean and condoms' and they say 'ok' as if they have no say.

Overall, nice song!

Posted by: Liаm Jun 11 2011, 03:42 PM

Still not sure what to make of it... I guess it's OK (I'm been trying to get myself to like it for like 2 weeks) but it just seems a bit nothingy sad.gif

Posted by: Johnkm Jun 11 2011, 03:43 PM

This is yet another complete BLAH moment from them, it's pleasant enough radio fodder but not something I'd ever have the urge to actually seek out to listen to.

Am I the only one who really loves this? wub.gif It's surprising that both The Wanted AND JLS have got great new songs laugh.gif

I kinda like it. Mixed opinions, it's very repetitive.

No, I really love this and JLS's new one...I reckon this will become my favourite The Wanted single in a few weeks smile.gif

Posted by: danielMFAO Jun 11 2011, 06:03 PM

I don't like this at all, it's really unoriginal and it's been done before. The Wanted won't last long, I think this song'll go top 5 but this is down to the fact that it's held back sad.gif

I don't really agree with what people are saying about this. This for me is probably one of their best to date, I really like it actually. Sure its rather generic, but its far better than JLS and their 'Yeah 3X/Till The World End' mash up.

Posted by: Liаm Jun 12 2011, 10:55 PM

This has just clicked! wub.gif It's soooooo good!

Posted by: Hayzayy Jun 13 2011, 10:41 AM

First play tomorrow morning at 8am on Capital FM (edit: or 7:45am on Radio 1). Third single from the upcoming 2nd album, released Sunday 30th October (and I assume the album could be the week after).

This song is already available in live form, as it was performed on the tour back in March/April time.

Posted by: Silver Rocket Sep 13 2011, 07:05 PM

I didn't like 'Gold Forever' at all, but 'Glad You Came' was so excellent so if this is as good bring it on!

Posted by: Jack Sep 13 2011, 08:01 PM

I'm actually pretty excited to hear this ... I really enjoyed 'Glad You Came'. Definetly the best boyband around - piss all over JLS & One Direction!

Posted by: Lukuzz Sep 13 2011, 08:14 PM

Looking forward to hearing it, sounds ok from the live version.

Posted by: Slick Sep 13 2011, 08:15 PM

The Wanted have churned some really solid songs so far - I look forward to hearing this. As far as current boybands go, personally I find their output much stronger than Take That and JLS over the past year or so.

Posted by: slowdown73 Sep 13 2011, 08:40 PM

"Glad you came" was a major breakthru hit which I think will certainly reap them many new fans.

Posted by: gooddelta Sep 14 2011, 09:44 AM

Radio Rip:

Verses sound a lot like Sweet Disposition in places 'the touch, the kiss, the rush, too much'. Really good again though imo, they're definitely releasing a string of decent singles with only one or two blips thus far.

Posted by: Jonjo Sep 14 2011, 11:58 AM

Very good! Far prefer it to 'Glad You Came'! I wonder if they could get that 2nd XF slot...

Posted by: cookie_monster Sep 15 2011, 12:59 AM

It's alright on first listen but not as good as ATL, LMM and GYC.

Posted by: Jack Sep 15 2011, 12:25 PM

Sounds pretty strong from first listen! Definetly think they'll be able to get an X Factor slot if they could with 'Lose My Mind'!

Yes their new intro can be instead of "NUMBER 1 DEBUT SINGLE!" and nothing else Could be "2 NUMBER 1 SINGLES!" and nothing else!

Posted by: Jáhq Sep 19 2011, 09:44 PM

HQ seems to have leaked, doesn't have any R1 noise over the top

Really growing on me, fingers crossed that it does get another XF performance for them. Competition should be strong around that time so it might not be another #1 but hopefully sales will be healthy all the same.

Posted by: JxRk Sep 20 2011, 01:13 AM

I've only just heard Glad You Came but GOOD LORD some of the vocals on it are absolutely horrendous! The boys (Tom and Nathan I think) who sing the first verse are both dire! It's not even singing, it's speak-singing in really blunt accents. Not pretty. I do find it a bit baffling that they're so big here really. They don't even look like a group.

Also wikipedia tells me Jay won 'sexiest vegetarian' as awarded by PETA. Is that even a compliment?

Gold Forever
Warzone

Better than the last one, but I don't really like the tacky red sky - it'd be better without.

That tracklist is incorrect, here is the new one:

Standard Edition:
01. Glad You Came
02. Lightning
03. Warzone
04. Invincible
05. Last to Know
06. She Don't Like to Party
07. Everybody Knows
08. Be Your Strength
09. Rocket
10. I Want It All
11. The Weekend
12. Lie to Me
13. Gold Forever

Deluxe Edition bonus tracks:
14. Dagger
15. Madman
16. Rock Your Body
17. Turn It Off
18. Where I Belong

I was about to post the same to be honest. When they started, I found "All Time Low" interesting but still boyband-tacky and they were always kind of a second rate boyband to me. But that has changed in these few months, they keep delivering some tunes, and their campaigns are always very well put together. Right now JLS look like the joke. Well done everyone.

And although I hate the line "we might as well be playing with lightning", which doesn't make much sense, I do think the song is a tu-u-une and another Ed Drewett pearl!

They've already confirmed the forth single to be 'Warzone', with the video being filmed in New York around about now. I've not listened to the album clips yet, but I hope the song's a lot better than what we've heard already, as I am quite disappointed by the singles thus far. https://twitter.com/#!/MaxTheWanted/status/127406901246955521.

'Warzone' has been given it's first play on Capital

Another good single I think, based on first listen. Should grow and sound even better in HQ.

Wasn't too sure about the iTunes clips, I hope the actual album is at least as good as the debut which I think is strong but not amazing, not filler-ish as such but not many more would have worked as singles.

Posted by: THEO. Nov 4 2011, 05:06 PM

Standard edition has leaked! PM me for a link.

EDIT: Deluxe has also leaked. Again; PM me.

Posted by: Jáhq Nov 10 2011, 07:17 PM

No one got any thoughts on the album?

Here is the Warzone video

Another great single, I think it seems a bit more subtle as the hook is really good but it doesn't seem as powerful as with their past singles. The video is OK but I wasn't sure about the part where they're all individually shown catching the girls out.

Posted by: CHЯIS Nov 10 2011, 08:54 PM

Average video, just like all their others. Quite like the song though. 'The Weekend' HAS to be the fifth single, easily the best track on the album.

Just heard Glad You Came and Warzone, both for the first time.

Oh my GOD they are wonderful. Especially the chorus of Warzone (forgetting how horrific the lyrics are of course).

IN LOVE WITH MAX'S VOICE TOO.

Posted by: slowdown73 Nov 18 2011, 10:11 AM

This is easily their best album out of the two. There are some great tracks on the album and two of the bonus songs on the deluxe are among my favourites including "where I belong" and "dagger". Weekend is excellent too.

Posted by: Liаm Dec 18 2011, 09:23 AM

I just read this is being re-released next year, with 2 new tracks. One is written by Example and is called Chasing The Sun, which I suppose is plausible, and the other is called Jealousy and it's a duet with... Rihanna... I mean I know she gets around but I doubt she'd work with someone like these guys...

Love if it was true though wub.gif

Posted by: slowdown73 Dec 18 2011, 10:33 AM

Rihanna & The Wanted? Thats a strange collaboration. I read on the net that the Wanted were going to release a deluxe edition next year of their new album which included a lot of leftover tracks...but they have already released a deluxe anyway. It will be nice to get some more tracks as really like the material on their new album and its streets ahead of JLS.

Posted by: Little Jack Dec 18 2011, 11:43 AM

Rihanna? Hadn't heard that one. Did know about the Example track though, and the re-release which is BLOODY ANNOYING. Can artists just stop now please? Fair enough if it's 8 tracks (although that would be better released separate), but if they've just got those two new tracks.

Posted by: shadow2009 Dec 18 2011, 12:57 PM

I still think Lightning is the best thing they've ever done.

Posted by: -Jay- Dec 18 2011, 07:17 PM

I'm a little annoyed at how 'Warzone' isn't getting a CD single (seems that way anyway). They haven't released artwork for it yet, so perhaps not even a digital single release.

Has a chart run of 64-62-85-67-80-80 so far.

Posted by: -Jay- Dec 26 2011, 03:19 PM

As I suspected, there's no digital EP and no artwork. It's literally album download only.

What a weird strategy. So stupid seeing their official twitters banging on about it being "out today" when there's nothing released today, it's been out for weeks. How they expect fans to buy into this when they already have the album I don't know. Only loons would re-download it.

The no artwork element of this is just ridiculous. ohmy.gif

Posted by: Martyn Dec 26 2011, 03:23 PM

Why would they film and release a video for this and then do nothing with it...

Posted by: slowdown73 Dec 27 2011, 01:09 PM

Its no26 on itunes so it's unlikely to go top10. I think they are now going to focus on a re-release of the album.

Posted by: seanopop Dec 27 2011, 08:16 PM

Ok so I'm new here and have been reading through everyone's posts. I simply can't believe they have released a 'single' with no individual artwork, no separate download, no physical release (<- ok now-a-days that's not too extraordinary) just a video! Is this some ploy to get people to go to itunes, find the song and think 'oh I may as well download the whole album whilst I'm here' as album sales are more economically beneficial for the management, right? Or have they simply lost their minds/can't be bothered?

Posted by: -Jay- Dec 27 2011, 08:22 PM

Welcome! biggrin.gif

That does seem like the most logical explanation for the decision. It's crazy that they went to New York to film such a "glossy" video but have this kind of release for it. It's currently #15 on iTunes (greatly helped along by being 59p I'd have thought), so it looks like they might scrape a Top 20 hit. A CD single and remixes surely could have given them a push for Top 10. sad.gif

I suppose if we see their album high in the charts this coming Sunday (similar to their debut zooming up last year), then the tactic has worked. unsure.gif

Posted by: seanopop Dec 27 2011, 08:53 PM

Thank you for the welcome biggrin.gif

It's all coming together in my mind now, the song is basically free for them because it's already paid for itself on the successful album, now they have just released it with a practically free campaign and will probably get a top 20 (selling it at 59p) whereas a normal single release with all the trimmings would cost them a lot more, and I have to wonder how much better of they would be by getting a top 10 at 99p - when weighed against all the extra costs.

Makes sense right?

Posted by: cookie_monster Dec 28 2011, 05:47 PM

Apparently it does have a single cover now!

It's on the wikipedia page but I don't know if it's genuine or not!

Posted by: seanopop Dec 28 2011, 06:25 PM

Ohh so at least it has something! I can't get onto iTunes at the mo but do you know whether they have updated the store with Warzone as it's own 'album'? (<- meaning iTunes single) or does one still have to go into the album to download it?

Posted by: -Jay- Dec 28 2011, 07:43 PM

Fairly sure the cover is fan made. It's an old picture, taken before the release of All Time Low. laugh.gif Suppose it's better than nothing.

Used for promo in magazines:

Posted by: THEO. Dec 28 2011, 07:50 PM

That artwork is fanmade. In fact, I'd take a guess that our very own MIKEY created it!

--

The song itself it not brilliant, which is a shame. It feels like it's trying to recreate 'All Time Low', but failed miserably. This album really pails in comparison to the last, but even then, it was very filler-heavy.

Posted by: seanopop Dec 28 2011, 08:04 PM

Ahh, you never can tell with The Wanted whether artwork is official or fanmade, but generally speaking if it looks professional/well-made it's probably the fan made version wink.gif All the same I am looking forward to seeing it's chart position on Sunday and how it's 'only available from the album area' scheme aids Battleground sales (which I personally think is worse than their first album!)

Posted by: JackLangSyne Dec 28 2011, 08:10 PM

A couple of songs sound a bit sound chasing or just fall flat in parts. 'Invincible' has some terrible lyrics especially - "just please don't tell the principle", really? The singles + 'Rocket' have to be my highlights. The album is growing on me though and I think the highlights are stronger than the debut even if the debut is stronger overall. Both have a share of filler though.

Don't forget 'Come here right now girl! I'll make you sweat like you worked out!'' LOL. The Weekend is one of my faves from Battleground though. I totally feel what you're saying about Battleground's highlights overshadowing their first album's, yet the first being a better record over-all. Buuut I did go to the tour, and songs like let's get ugly and personal soldier got a whole new 'highlight' status for me.

I think the new album is a lot better than the first one.

Posted by: -Jay- Dec 29 2011, 03:01 PM

So 'Warzone' is 15+3 in the midweeks, and the album is 20+4. So the album is sticking at the same position it was last week.

Not the greatest of results really, not enough to justify the lack of effort with the single. sad.gif

Posted by: seanopop Dec 29 2011, 03:26 PM

Well they are at 15, which is a top twenty despite them spending hardly anything on promo, so that's not too bad! I definitely think they should have made the effort though, they could have gotten a top 10 or even 5 single, and pulled the album up a few positions. Oh well :/

What will this mean for the next single? Will it get a real release or be another one of these 'go download a track off our album and we'll say it's a single' releases do you think?

I actually don't think it's that bigger problem. Rihanna's Rated R era didn't have any physical or digital single releases, and the album was out before anything else. Saying that she did make single covers for them (RR, RB and TA) but the tracks themselves were only able to be downloaded from the Rated R album on UK iTunes. It really annoyed me at the time because with a little more effort, I think she could have easily got 2 #1s from that album. Warzone is similar to Te Amo I think, when the only promo is radio/music channels which push it into the 15-20 region on itunes.

Well they are at 15

They're at 18 actually, it's just midweek positions here are posted as sums (i.e. 15+3) to avoid posting an official midweek. Though now I've gone against this by explaining that it's at #18. tongue.gif

Side note: That's true that many Rihanna singles didn't have CDs or Digital EPs released here. Thankfully for collectors, Russian Roulette, Rude Boy & Te Amo all had CD singles in Australia and/or Germany. However it's slowly becoming more frequent that a single of hers doesn't have a CD anywhere in the world - Hard & Man Down, for instance.

Ahhh so when it said 15+3 it meant 18, makes (a pinch of) sense.

Considering they are only a two year old band I would've expected more basically, Rihanna can afford to be chopping physical copied from one or two countries, but I'm so sure The Wanted would've done a lot better releasing it here, in their only real market.

On another note I just opened the evening edition of my local paper and saw two pages full of 'The Wanted & Girlfriends In Barbados' photos... so there's the real reason they aren't here promoting this tongue.gif

CD singles tend to be more popular for some artists than others. It would have been nice for them to have released one for "warzone" to help boost sales but it doesnt surprise me that they havent because "lose my mind" never saw one from the first album. I am disappointed the album hasnt gone platinum considering they have already had 4 singles off the album but perhaps they should have released the album on the back of the success of "glad you came", rather than waiting until "lightning".

I forgot about Lose My Mind not having one, I always wondered why that CD was missing from my collection!

Posted by: seanopop Dec 31 2011, 02:00 PM

Lose My Mind had an x factor performance, and three others on TV, they gave it a cover, promoted it heavily and there was a physical copy ready to be made but was cancelled at the last minute (<if I remember right :/) Amazon seems to have some lose my mind physicals available now too, for those missing them from the collection XD

Although with LMM they did do the promo a month before it was released and then just let it maintain it's position during christmas, maybe with Warzone they will let it get to wherever tomorrow and then maintain/raise it's position in the charts by promoting it in january? ie, a month later? Same thing but backwards.

Posted by: -Jay- Dec 31 2011, 02:01 PM

Lose My Mind randomly had a CD single release in Germany, so that filled the gap in my collection. Warzone ruins it! tongue.gif

Only midweek #20 yesterday.

Posted by: seanopop Dec 31 2011, 03:24 PM

I noticed that they released a physical copy in Germany aha, it didn't even chart there :S I fail to see the point in that little exercise tongue.gif

Really shocked the haven't gone platinum, having released 4 singles and had massive radio support. Just like The Saturdays their popularity is a myth.

Posted by: shadow2009 Dec 31 2011, 09:31 PM

I don't include 'Gold Forever' as a proper single from this album. It was a Comic Relief novelty song, and only got added on at the end of the albums tracklisting purely because they'd already recorded it. They launched their debut with two singles, why would they need three singles for their second album?

Glad You Came was the first single in the summer (like All Time Low) then Lightning launched the album in October (like Heart Vacancy) and Warzone is now the December/January post-album single (like Lose My Mind).

I have always thought they would've sold more if they didn't spend so much time insulting people/getting into fights at charity events/obsessing about how big they will be in the states and worked a little harder on selling their product.

I do like them btw, even though I just had a mini-rant wink.gif

Posted by: -Jay- Dec 31 2011, 11:49 PM

I think their album has merely done ok, but it's obviously not done amazingly well. According to Vidcapper it's on 211.5k after 7 weeks on sale. That's slightly up on their debut album, which sold 181.7k in the same time frame. Their debut grew to well over 400k eventually, but I doubt this second album will do the same.

Posted by: Aphrodite Jan 1 2012, 12:20 AM

The album is doing ok but nothing major, i did expect it to better as the whole era started of strong with glad you came doing so well, lightning didnt push album sales as strong as expected i suspect and warzone isnt doing much as a single or much for the album either, on saying that it shud easily go platnum eventually and i think i read its getting a re release so that will bump it up.

Posted by: seanopop Jan 1 2012, 01:04 AM

When they announced the original version they also announced there was going to be another 2012 re-release with the seven extra songs that they advertised and then removed from the original. So yeah, when that comes out it will probably push this to platinum.

Posted by: lee wallace Jan 1 2012, 03:26 AM

The wanted have arguably had one of the best promotion this year performing on the xFactor and Strictly Come Dancing which many acts would kill for. I still think Battleground will pass 400,000+ as The Wanted have announced a deluxe version will be released next year.

Posted by: Hayzayy Jan 11 2012, 11:10 AM

Wow, I would have never thought The Wanted would be the ones to make it big in the US out of the British pop scene.
Well, they haven't done it "big" yet, but the fact they got a slot on Ellen is quite impressive.

66. The Wanted - Glad You Came.

That Performance was awful.

Posted by: jmarkiv Jan 11 2012, 11:10 PM

Performance was really awful. They have awfully weak voices and no personality. But I'm glad they didn't break into some boring boyband dance routine.

Posted by: Tom NewYears Kay Jan 12 2012, 09:25 AM

I actually thought that by UK standards (and their standards particularly) it was a good performance. But for the US it was piss-poor.

Anyway, random lyric change: "you look well WITH me". WTF? mellow.gif

Posted by: Scherz Jan 12 2012, 09:55 AM

I like The Wanted's music but their performances are just awful. There's just no direction with them.
I saw them live when they supported Britney on tour and they just walk around, then jump around.. and they don't even do it with any sort of synchronicity!
Ellen's intro made them out to be the biggest boyband in the UK and then they walk out and do that! laugh.gif

Posted by: Slick Jan 12 2012, 11:10 AM

I'm surprised that they seem to have gone down quite well. Top 60 on iTunes and quite a huge reaction in the studio after what was basically just an ok performance. VERY impressed at their debut being on Ellen too! Their management seem to do such a wonderful job of getting them the right gigs.

Posted by: slowdown73 Jan 12 2012, 11:10 AM

I've just seen the video of their performance on Ellen. They looked very amateur and didnt sound great. Not a good start to promoting themselves in America.

Didnt like the performance. Got to number 65 on iTunes but down to 74 already. Radio still playing it but cant see it selling that well. Read today that they have ditched the planned song with Rihanna as it wasnt up to scratch according to them.

Any news yet on the re-release of the album? Battleground is really dropping in the charts now.

Posted by: ThePensmith Jan 22 2012, 09:14 PM

What's the betting they're gonna copy The Saturdays now and re-release songs from this as an 'EP between albums'? (Only nowhere near as amazing as 'Headlines' was...)

They really are the East 17 of the 2010's aren't they? I like a few of their songs (mainly from their 1st album, IMO 'Battleground' was such a squib) but I don't find them very likeable in the slightest. And in my view, it's almost as if they don't want to be a boyband - they're always posing with instruments in their album artwork and stuff as if in a desperate bid to be taken seriously, but when you see them on TV and stuff they're always just stood there looking awkward and half trying to hop like a dog peeing up a tree, half trying to dance on stage.

Lawson, their support act on their tour that's coming up soon (Andy from Lawson used to be in Avenue with Max before he was in The Wanted) have got far stronger material and are probably the kind of music The Wanted wish they were doing. I wouldn't mind betting they'll take over from them this year.

I would think they're primarily targetting the Justin Bieber type of fanbase, and nothing's more alienating to an American pre-teen than knowing their favourite boyband are performing down the road at the local gay joint.

The Wanted have already announced their re-releasing Battleground and have a "smash" hit written from Example for them. I think in America they will release an Ep with the following Songs

01. Glad You Came
02. All Time Low
03. Lose My Mind
04. Warzone
05. Gold Forever
06. Lightning
07. New Hit
08. New Hit

Holy Crap Glad You Came #58 on American iTunes.

I'm not sure if a re-release will help Battleground a great deal. Although it's a really good album, as a band I don't feel they are connecting enough with the general public.

TBH I think they bring a lot of the disconnection on themselves, they're always slagging everyone else off in the papers or getting into a fight with someone at a charity football match every time I read about them, probably because their record company has nudged them into doing so as a means of selling records, so as to make them look like 'bad boys'. Considering The Wanted are supposed to be 'all about the music', they're extremely tabloid-y and a bit chav-y if we're honest as well. I think that's why people outside whatever's left of their fanbase atm aren't getting them. They are the East 17 to JLS' Take That and it shows, from the videos right down to the tours right down to the singles. JLS probably aren't considered as 'cool' compared to The Wanted but I'd easily take any one of their 3 albums over the 1 and a half decent ones The Wanted have put out thus far.

QUOTE
Pop groups in general, and boy bands in particular, are out of favor with mainstream pop audiences in the US.

However, in the UK it is a different story. JLS, One Direction, The Wanted, and the reunited Take That are all riding high in the British pop charts.

In 2012 a serious effort will be made to rekindle the love of boy bands in the US and The Wanted are leading the charge with a charming dance-pop single.

QUOTE
Guide Review - The Wanted - "Glad You Came"

"Glad You Came" was the second #1 and fourth top 5 pop hit single for The Wanted at home in the UK. The group will make a strong effort to have it be their first major hit in the US. "All Time Low," the first single from The Wanted, made an appearance in the top 20 of the US dance chart back in 2010, but the group has had no significant chart success in the US since. With a recent appearance on Ellen and movement into the top 40 of pop radio airplay, The Wanted have a good shot.

"Glad You Came" is pure dance-pop. Produced by Steve Mac, who was also responsible for "All Time Low," the song leads in with a slow solo from Max George, but it is only seconds before the dance beats kick in.

"Glad You Came" rotates the solo vocal parts among the group members in a very democratic song process. However, it is the keyboard hook that nearly steals the show from the group. The accompanying video shows The Wanted vacationing in dance music mecca Ibiza. It is light, frothy, and filled with token women, but boy bands have never made their success on artistic pretension. "Glad You Came" is a cheerful, uptempo tune that is easy to dance with, and it is little more than that.

It is possible there is a void in the US pop music marketplace that could be filled by an act like The Wanted. If so, it is the overall geniality obvious in their music that will carry the day. The Wanted are beginning a mini-tour of the US January 17, 2012 in Orlando, Florida to boost their standing on this side of the Atlantic. Fellow boy band One Direction will follow them across the Atlantic in late February. Is there a new era of boy bands about to launch? Listen to "Glad You Came" and keep your eyes open.

Did I miss something? JLS haven't released any covers as singles. They've sampled some old songs on 'The Club Is Alive' and 'Do You Feel What I Feel?' but they weren't covers. And they stopped the shirt lifting months ago - or at least going on what they said in an interview quite recently.

Don't get me wrong, I like some of what The Wanted have put out thus far - I loved 'Heart Vacancy' and about 70% of their debut album, and I quite liked 'Gold Forever' as well.

Massive American Welcome For The Wanted

The Wanted Get 'Massive Buzz' From American Fans
British boy band talks to MTV News about 'amazing' U.S. tour.

QUOTE
As British boy band the Wanted embark on a U.S. tour, the five guys are eating up all the love they’ve been receiving Stateside. In fact, they kind of can’t get enough of all the American fans they have met since kicking off their tour last week.

“Unbelievable, like we never expected it,” Max George told MTV News about the shows, which have included sold-out dates. “The States is one territory in the world we always wanted to crack, and that’s like the ultimate. It’s been amazing.”

The Wanted — made up of George, Tom Parker, Siva Kaneswaran, Jay McGuiness and Nathan Sykes — formed in 2009 and quickly became popular enough in the U.K. to snag touring dates with Justin Bieber. Bieber’s manager, Scooter Braun, has since taken them under his managerial wing, accelerating their rise to American popularity. In fact, they even opened for Britney Spears for a date on her Femme Fatale Tour. They are currently out promoting their single “Glad You Came.”

Parker said he’s overwhelmed by the response the guys have been getting city after city since coming over, which includes a performance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” “It’s all been really quick, actually, and we’ve only been over here for a week and we’ve seen it grow massively in just a week,” he said of the group’s popularity. “Well that’s the power of the Internet; social networking crosses over into so many different territories that for us it’s been crucial.”

Kaneswaran added that the guys have also been connecting to audiences and fans thanks to “the power of music, music defines an act.”

As the guys continue to weave spells over American audiences, they weighed in on what makes U.S. fans different from the ones back home. “The American fans are so optimistic, very intense,” George said. “They’re just really enthusiastic. I get a massive buzz off American people. I think it’s really refreshing.”

With several weeks left on their trek around America, McGuiness teased future audiences of what they should expect at one of their shows. “I think just don’t go expecting the perfect, polished, most beautiful set of things ever,” he said. “Basically it’s five guys and this absolutely rocking band. Our band is badass and we sing our heads off and it gets sweaty.”

The guys are here promoting their album Battleground. Their U.S. tour will wrap up on February 8 in Los Angeles before they kick off an arena tour on February 15 in their native England. “We were always hopeful it would go as good as it started off to be,” McGuiness added. “But you never know how a new territory is going to react. I feel like there is an element of luck involved.”

The Wanted Plan To Take Over The US

Boy bands were massive circa 1997, think N’Sync and Backstreets Boys and it seems that they might be having a resurgence. The British boy band, The Wanted are embarking on their U.S. tour promoting their single, ‘Glad You Came’, and have plans to “crack” the U.S. market. Will they be able to do it?

The Wanted consists of 5 guys – George, Tom Parker, Siva Kaneswaran, Jay McGuiness and Nathan Sykes. The band got together in 2009 and became pretty popular in the U.K. They have toured with some big names including Justin Bieber and they opened for Britney Spears on her Femme Fatale tour. The Wanted boys describe themselves as “badass and we sing our heads off and it gets sweaty.” Cuuute!

They’ve got a few more weeks left of their tour of the States, and are really happy apparently with the reception they have gotten from their U.S. fans. Could we be seeing a new age of boy band hysteria?

I just read that too. I see it going Top 25 this week with airplay building and they're now up to 21 on itunes. Defo a Top 10 hit in the next few months I'd say. Who'd have thought it!? ohmy.gif

They havent got a strong second single tho thats the problem. They may well break top 10/15 in the US but they need to have a US styled 2nd single. ATL would be the only other song that might make progress over there but that was shelved as a US release as it wasnt received well and wasnt taken by the radio.

Wanted will not make it in the US until they have a strong selling and charting album. That is what artists are judged on.

Posted by: Tom Titanium Kay Feb 8 2012, 02:50 PM

To be fair they released a really shit remix of ATL there. As for the second single, maybe they could dust off that Rihanna duet that they thought "wasn't very good" and get Wynter Gordon/Livvi Franc/similar D-lister to do Riri's parts...

Posted by: Johnny Feb 9 2012, 05:42 PM

.

Posted by: Martyn Feb 9 2012, 05:47 PM

Don't worry everyone. If they do become successful over there , it will go to their already massively over inflated egos and they will probably end up flopping over here. Poor Natasha Beddingfield

Posted by: Johnny Feb 9 2012, 05:49 PM

Now no.12 on itunes. Pretty shocked at how fast it's climbing, and way before Glee aswell. Airplay building nicely aswell. Like someone else said though, once this goes Top 10 what happens next? Don't see any past material being right for the next single over there, so unless they have some decent material already recorded they'll end up one-hit wonders. Let's wait and see, I hope they do manage it.

I really think this would be a great idea. I can't see Rihanna actually doing it with them, but if it was dancey like Glad You Came without being a total carbon copy and had some nice radio friendly female vocals, I could see them getting another top 40 at least in the US. It would definitely have to be a newly recorded song though, because Lightning, All Time Low or indeed anything else we've heard from them so far would be an awful choice (good as they are).

Posted by: marrb Feb 9 2012, 07:11 PM

Good for The Wanted I hope they continue to do well. I think All Time Low is a better song and could do well in the US.

Posted by: BrookeOlivia Feb 9 2012, 07:59 PM

Posted by: Silver Rocket Feb 9 2012, 08:45 PM

They'll blatantly record an entirely new song collaborating with a 'hip' name for the next single.

Posted by: AdamAloud Feb 9 2012, 09:25 PM

Wow, I love the song but never would've predicted it to have such success over in the States! ohmy.gif

Posted by: jay727 Feb 9 2012, 10:40 PM

It's not success as such, they have had a good start to their attack on the american charts but personally i can see it becoming a one hit wonder unless they have a trump card up their sleeves.
I do wonder whether charting in the US will affect their attitudes to the UK as it seems when UK artists think they are on the verge to break america they lose connection with the UK and then end up losing both US and Uk markets.

Posted by: slowdown73 Feb 10 2012, 11:28 AM

"trump card" - collaboration with Flo Rida or Wiz Khalifa or Pitbull, as always tongue.gif

And agree about the 2nd point - Natasha Bedingfield, Craig David, etc. to name but few. Also we could include Leona in that crowd too if it weren't for the umpteen X Factor appearances she gets in the UK that still keeps her in the public profile.

The Wanted, jumps 25-23 on the Hot 100 this week with "Glad You Came." So far, the single has moved 418,000 downloads. The song also rises 16-13 on the Pop Songs airplay tally this week.

THE WANTED - Glad You Came: 45.300 (+ 0.907)

And they've cracked the iTunes Top 5 currently No. 5!

Jesus christ, at this rate they're actually gonna make the top 10 next week. ohmy.gif

I remember saying somewhere a few months ago in response to someone that 'Glad You Came' might stand a chance of becoming a minor hit there with the right push (I was thinking low hot 100 for a few weeks, kinda like Ellie Goulding's 'Lights') but this I never expected.ohmy.gif

Good on them I say, although the only way they can keep this momentum up I think would be to release a brand new track as the second single with a 'hip' name featured or collaborated with, but we'll see!

'Glad You Came' is easily their best and they definitely need to record a prime-production new song as a follow up if they want to keep the momentum.

I read in Music Week earlier that the Wanted will be releasing their first album in USA at the end of April, which will be a hybrid of tracks from the first two albums plus some new songs. Sounds interesting - I wonder if these new songs will feature on the deluxe edition of Battleground which they have talked about releasing here at some point?

But at the same time, they'd be foolish to just abandon the UK fans. It's where artists who go to the US usually get it wrong. Just ask Natasha Bedingfield. It works for Taio, because he had a very American sound anyway and people often forget he's actually British.

Posted by: -Jay- Feb 26 2012, 02:22 AM

They're doing remarkably well in Canada at the moment, #1 on iTunes with a significant lead.

1. 1.0000 The Wanted
2. 0.7200 Carly Rae Jepsen

Has a chart run of 89-85-83-58-71-57-40-28-26 so far.

Posted by: Jáhq Feb 26 2012, 11:07 AM

On March 20th they are going to be on The Jay Leno Show performing 'Glad You Came', more US promo. biggrin.gif

Posted by: jay727 Feb 29 2012, 02:17 PM

They'll top the charts over in the US and then they'll be overtaken by 1D. Fair play to their management as they have found the perfect time to release the single when there isnt any established releases coming out over there. Good luck to them and I hope they have a few more tricks up their sleeves as the album wont sell on the back of one single.

I just read that some American girl asked one of the Wanted boys if she could cut a bit of his hair off. He said ok and then she ate it in front of him saying he'll be with her forever.. ohmy.gif :/ :S Some seriously strange and messed up people over the pond

No they won't. The album chart is very different to the hot 100. They will have to release a couple more top 10 to really get them noticed. Only precedent really is Take That when they had Back For Good charting in America at number 7, sold a million copies of it, released the album a month after and it went in at number 69 and dropped out the next week. The Wanted have already said that they will be a singles act for a while, we wont see their album for a while yet until they know it will sell well.

Posted by: Slick Feb 29 2012, 11:24 PM

I am really thrilled. I LOVE seeing British acts doing well in the US when we have so many Americans doing massively well over here. The Wanted are an act I never thought would even attempt to fly the flag elsewhere, but they're a pretty good boyband so I'm glad they're making some waves (however little.)

Posted by: slowdown73 Mar 2 2012, 11:39 AM

I'm glad the boys have done well in USA with "glad you came". Its hard for UK boybands to crack the American charts but the Wanted are a bit different to most UK boybands and their sound is more credible than the likes of One Direction, Westlife etc.

Posted by: Dinno Mar 3 2012, 05:13 PM

Some sales predictions from Billboard:

fun.'s "We Are Young" (featuring Janelle Monae), looks like it will continue to be the U.S.' top-selling song, with industry sources suggesting it will shift around 270,000 to 300,000 downloads. Kelly Clarkson's current Hot 100 No. 1, "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)," will like sell another 200,000 to 240,000.

The Wanted's "Glad You Came" will continue to build, after its explosive sales this past week. It jumped from 101,000 to 188,000 (up 87% according to Nielsen SoundScan) after it was covered on the Feb. 21 "Glee." This week, it could move even more. It's aiming for around 200,000 to 220,000

The Wanted .

Basking in the glow of its current top five Billboard Hot 100 single "Glad You Came," the Wanted announced via Twitter today (March 5) that its debut U.S. album will be released on April 24.

While the effort's title and track list has yet to be revealed, it will presumably include "Glad You Came," which vaulted from No. 23 to No. 5 on last week's Hot 100 chart after it was covered on the Feb. 21 episode of "Glee."

The quintet has released two albums in its home base of the U.K. -- both of which have reached the top five on the Official U.K. Albums chart. It's unclear if their U.S. debut will comprise tracks from both albums.

On Feb. 29, the group's Jay McGuiness told DigitalSpy.com that they had been recording new songs with OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder for possible inclusion on the album.

While he couldn't confirm anything, he said "My guess would be we'll take some songs from the first album, some from the second and add some new ones in too, just so everyone is on the same page."

The group (Max George, Siva Kaneswaran, McGuiness, Tom Parker and Nathan Sykes) is currently touring the U.K. and Ireland, but will return to the U.S. for a series of promotional appearances as the album's release nears. They will play "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno" on March 20, mtvU's spring break festivities on April 2, NBC's "Today Show" on April 24 and ABC's "The View" on April 25.

Signed to Mercury Records in America, the Wanted made its American TV debut on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" on Jan. 10 and has been blowing up the Billboard charts ever since. "Glad You Came" bowed on the Hot 100 and Pop Songs airplay charts dated Jan. 28. This week, the track rises one slot to No. 9 on the latter tally. (The new Hot 100 ranking will be revealed on Wednesday, March 7.)

'Gold Forever' hits US iTunes next Tuesday! Slightly too soon for my liking with Glad You Came not yet peaking on airplay and I would've gone with 'Lightning' but hopefully it can start selling on the back of the GYC success and US fans buying it to secure a 2nd Hot 100 placing.

Actually, they said that today on Twitter but two days ago they said;

QUOTE
We'll release a US version on 3/20 as part if Complete My Album on @iTunesMusic! Each week we'll release a song before the release on 4/24!

So it might just be a promo single.

Posted by: Dinno Mar 17 2012, 06:26 PM

But if the song does extremely well thye might consider releasing it as a proper single eventually.

Posted by: AltheGreat Mar 18 2012, 11:03 AM

For me, Gold Forever is their second best to ATL so I'm glad it's getting released state side.
Is it 'US friendly' though? Whatever that means.

US artwork for 'Gold Forever':

Posted by: Bréyhound Mar 20 2012, 07:04 PM

Is The Wanted's US album a self-titled one then? And do we have a tracklist for it yet? I suspect it'll just be a Taio-esque mix of the first 2 albums.

Posted by: Jáhq Mar 20 2012, 07:41 PM

It is self-titled but no tracklist yet. I'm expecting it to feature all the UK singles, a couple of album tracks and at least a couple of new tracks - Ryan Tedder is the latest name that I've heard they've been working with.

Posted by: AltheGreat Mar 20 2012, 11:13 PM

Gold Forever #60 on US iTunes.

Posted by: Silver Rocket Mar 21 2012, 01:40 PM

I just listened to 'Gold Forever' for the first time in almost a year, it still sucks.

Posted by: slowdown73 Mar 22 2012, 06:13 PM

Gold forever is quite weak compared with the rest of their singles from Battleground. Most of the other album tracks are in fact stronger.

Posted by: megahanna Mar 23 2012, 10:39 PM

Here's the tracklist:

STANDARD VERSION
01 Glad You Came
02 Chasing The Sun
03 All Time Low
04 Satellite
05 Lightning
06 Heart Vacancy
07 Gold Forever

DELUXE VERSION
08 Lose My Mind
09 Warzone
10 Rocket

There are two new songs. They have could have selected better songs imo. Most of the songs on the list wouldn't be considered radio friendly.

The Wanted posted the tracklist on twitter. I'm guessing it's an EP.

Posted by: Jáhq Mar 24 2012, 09:10 AM

Pretty much what I expected, the singles + an album track ('Rocket', which is one of my personal favourites) and a couple of new tracks. 'Chasing The Sun' seems to be the Example-written track, don't know about 'Satellite' but what a great title. kink.gif

'Chasing The Sun' premieres April 17th and it seems like it could be the new single in either the UK, US or both.

They're performing on American Idol on 5th March, so expect 'Glad You Came' to have a nice boost from that biggrin.gif

'Lightning' is the next promo single to be released in the US on Tuesday and they're going with this cover;

'Gold Forever' fails to chart on the Hot 100 so hopefully 'Lightning' can do better, especially with the American Idol boost [although they'll be performing 'Glad You Came'].

Posted by: -Jay- Mar 29 2012, 05:33 PM

Could be a good choice.

I really wish they'd do 'Warzone' as one of the promo singles, so it actually had artwork! laugh.gif

Posted by: dannjohn3 Mar 29 2012, 08:02 PM

Why are they ONLY doing an EP?? They've recorded new music and have two albums worth of material... MASH UP and give the Americans something worthwhile!

Posted by: -Jay- Mar 29 2012, 08:27 PM

I've read that they intend to release a full length album in the US towards the end of 2012. Seems an odd way of going about things, but maybe they haven't the confidence to release a full price album yet. unsure.gif

'Chasing The Sun' gets it's firsy play tomorrow on Radio 1 at 7:50am.

Posted by: ROBOT Apr 5 2012, 10:01 AM

HMM, not really that keen on it, it's catchy, but not as good as I was hoping for an Example written track sad.gif

Posted by: Slick Apr 5 2012, 10:05 AM

Oh that's VERY Glad You Came. I'm not sure it's a very wise decision to release that after GYC in the US with such similar sounds. Also, it's an OK song but it sounds like it should be an Example song (obviously) and I don't think his style suits a group of singers.

Posted by: Jáhq Apr 5 2012, 10:09 AM

Might have been expecting something more but I love it. Maybe it isn't the best move to have this as the follow up to Glad You Came in the US but the formula has worked once for them and I think it's a better choice than any of their other material so it could score them a 2nd hit over there.

Posted by: Liаm Apr 5 2012, 10:27 AM

Liking it on first listen, but I agree I expected much more from a track written by Example. Still, the formula worked for them before so I can't see why this shouldn't give them another (at least moderate) hit, obviously not on the same scale as Glad You Came though. It's definitely a much better choice than any of their previous material which (while I like a good chunk of it) is far too dated to see US success beyond a 79 peak on the Hot 100 or something disappointing like that.

Posted by: Aidan Apr 5 2012, 04:08 PM

I really like the song! It should definitely be another hit for them.

Posted by: ThePensmith Apr 5 2012, 04:37 PM

Whilst it's still taking me a while to warm to the 'Battleground' album (I am getting there though), this is most certainly a tune. Goes to prove they can bring out great songs when they're not being all arrogant about it. Musically it acts as a good bookend to The Saturdays' new one actually - which is good considering they're both out the week before/after each other!

Posted by: slowdown73 Apr 5 2012, 05:38 PM

The new track isnt as good as a lot of the stuff on battleground. I'd say its pretty average, not what I was expecting.

Posted by: joshuadavid Apr 5 2012, 06:34 PM

Doesn't harm LMFAO/David Guetta from getting success, does it? tongue.gif

Anyway. It's even more dull than 'Glad You Came', imo. I never got into that song and I still sort of don't see the fuss personally. Nice to see them doing well in America though smile.gif

The Wanted have confirmed the name of their second official US single.

The boyband will release 'Heart Vacancy' as the next cut to be lifted from their debut self-titled EP in America.

The Wanted EP will also include their global hit 'Glad You Came', UK debut single 'All Time Low' and new song 'Chasing The Sun'.

The seven-track collection will be released through Def Jam in the United States on April 24. An extended bonus track edition will include a further three songs.

'Heart Vacancy' was originally released in the UK as The Wanted's second official single back in October 2010. The track peaked at number two on the UK chart

Career suicide complete if that's true. That's the WORST possible choice, even Warzone would be better than that huh.gif

Posted by: Jáhq Apr 10 2012, 04:08 PM

Official US single? That's crazy, couldn't see it doing much. Especially when they're performing on The Voice in the US next week and I read they were going to sing 'Chasing The Sun' which would be the logical option [they've now filmed the video for it].

471. Heart Vacancy - The Wanted

This is off to a worse start on US iTunes than 'Lightning' or 'Glad You Came' so it seems clear that it shouldn't be a single.

Posted by: Slick Apr 10 2012, 04:36 PM

Heart Vacancy is a ridiculous decision. I like it but it's their worst single by MILES! All Time Low, Lightning and Lose My Mind are legions above it.

Posted by: slowdown73 Apr 15 2012, 08:59 AM

In Musicweek this week, an article on the Wanted stated that there will be a new album by end of the year. I do wonder if they will re-release battleground or focus on a new album now!

Posted by: -Jay- Apr 15 2012, 10:49 PM

Very odd decision. 'Chasing The Sun' would surely be the most logical choice at this stage - they could make a big deal about it being a 'transatlantic hit' at the same time (assuming it did well, of course). 'Heart Vacancy' though? Doesn't scream Hot 100 to me.

Posted by: Juranamo Apr 15 2012, 10:54 PM

The Wanted have committed US CAREER SUICIDE. They will not recover. Terrible choice. sad.gif

Posted by: Jáhq Apr 18 2012, 05:32 PM

I don't know where the news that 'Heart Vacancy' would be the US single officially stemed from - I don't think I saw them confirm it on Twitter and it just seemed like some source mistaking 'promo single' for a proper single. The fact that they performed 'Chasing The Sun' on The Voice certainly suggests that will be the single [along with the fact it's now higher on iTunes than the other promo singles got & has got a small amount of airplay].

Not claiming that this is amazing but I prefer it to the American Idol performance.

Posted by: Lee123 Apr 19 2012, 12:25 AM

Anything is better than the American Idol performance.

Posted by: Johnny Apr 19 2012, 12:44 AM

I know One Direction have done amazing and had the number 1 album in US etc...but The Wanted have been used on Glee, and have had performances on American Idol and now The Voice. The 3 biggest shows in the US. Pretty amazing really. Never would have believed that if you'd told me a year ago...

Oh, and Chasing the Sun is quite clearly going to be the next single. Regardless of what's been said or quoted I think it's quite obvious that it won't be Heart Vacancy. If so, their label would be top class mugs.

The song's really growing on me - obviously it was created for the US after "Glad You Came"'s success, but it's nice that the UK will get something to tide us over until the next album (which is hopefully a lot better than the past two - they have so much potential, but their albums are incredibly patchy).

I'm disappointed with satelite. Its not as strong as a lot of the tracks on battleground. Bit of a step back really.

Posted by: Juranamo Apr 25 2012, 11:06 AM

I just listened to Chasing The Sun for the first time today. I think it may grow to be my favourite song of theirs yet, is a dancier version of Glad You Came, but pretty good!

Posted by: Jáhq Apr 25 2012, 04:51 PM

Not keen on the vampire concept.

Posted by: Slick Apr 25 2012, 05:00 PM

The vampire concept seems rather thrown in. They posted it on their Facebook page and said something like "We hope you like the surprise ending." I was expecting Example or somebody to pop up, but no, they all got bitten. Woop.

HDD has predicted the EP to sell between 35k-40k this week in the US.

Posted by: Lee123 Apr 25 2012, 11:14 PM

Ouch, putting into perspective they have had incredible promo aswell..

Posted by: Oricon Apr 25 2012, 11:14 PM

35-40k? Looks like 1D is considerably more favoured over in the states I assume...

Posted by: Umi Apr 25 2012, 11:47 PM

To be fair it's an EP but yeah, that's rather awful. But releasing an EP was stupid in the first place.

Posted by: Lee123 Apr 26 2012, 12:21 AM

The fact that it's an ep should have increased sales tbh, the price is much lower and the Ep itself has 10songs, most albums that get released have 10 songs.

They've had fantastic airplay, fantastic promotion (Voice,Ellen,American Idol etc).

If this album struggles to pass the 200,000 mark, I think this will prove The Wanted are just not a album selling band, One Direction are certainly the most in demand boyband in America, had One Direction not came to America maybe The Wanted's sales will be higher?

Posted by: Slick Apr 26 2012, 12:27 AM

That is a disappointing estimation for them, especially when you consider the huge publicity they've had and that One Direction sold so much more in their debut week. I didn't expect them to sell massively though. I just hope it sells well overall and that the next couple of singles sell.

Posted by: dannjohn3 Apr 26 2012, 10:01 AM

The problem is they've had one radio hit. It's a big risk to release an album after one hit single for a big star, let alone an up and coming band.

One Direction's album did well with just one hit single and they sold over 176,000 in the first week. Their label aren't going to be happy with this especially since they've pulled all the strings for them in states and have gotten them incredible promo in comparison to 1D. The Wanted released an EP for a reason so that more people could be persuaded to buy it and the issue is that they haven't.

Posted by: megahanna Apr 27 2012, 06:43 AM

Here's another HDD prediction on where the top ten is heading:

*Jack White (Third Man/Columbia) 120-130k
Adele (XL/Columbia) 85-90k
Lionel Richie (Mercury Nashville) 80-85k
One Direction (Syco/Columbia) 40-45k
Nicki Minaj (YM/CM/Universal Republic) 35-40k
*Lee Brice (Curb) 35-40k
Jason Mraz (Atlantic) 35-40k
*Kip Moore (MCA Nashville) 35-40k
Gotye (Fairfax/Universal Republic) 30-35k
*The Wanted (Mercury/IDJ) 30-35k

So The Wanted could sell as low as 30k ohmy.gif

Posted by: Lee123 Apr 27 2012, 09:05 AM

I'm expecting around 32,000+ what is quite poor tbh, One Direction still outselling them laugh.gif
I'm sure had One Direction had The Wanted's promotion their album sales would be MUCH bigger.

Posted by: -Jay- Apr 27 2012, 03:05 PM

It's definitely bad in the context of One Direction. They've been quite the phenomenon though. Pre-One Direction, a British pop group getting anywhere near the US Top 10 would have been unthinkable for at least the last 10 years or so.

On the other hand, as mentioned, The Wanted have had fantastic exposure on top television shows. Couldn't have been better really. I don't believe the album was ever mentioned on programmes like American Idol? All the exposure seems to have benefited their single alone (which has now sold over 2 million), but it evidently hasn't translated into strong album sales.

Will be interesting to see if they manage to save themselves with 'Chasing The Sun'. I guess they'll survive in the US if that becomes a hit, even if the album is "only" a low Top 10 success.

Maybe they've shot themselves in the foot though, after recently slagging off Christina Aguilera. I sincerely doubt 'The Voice' will be inclined to invite them back again after they've called one of their coaches a "bitch" and implying she's ugly. ohmy.gif One too many bitchy comments like that and they could find a few doors shut in their faces.

Posted by: Aidan Apr 28 2012, 10:32 PM

So they've continued with their bad attitude after saying Christina Aguilera is a "total bitch." I honestly can't even deal with their attitudes, just ridiculous. sleep.gif

And now this:

QUOTE
I'm a backstage runner at The Voice and I've been telling all my friends about this new boyband acting like divas when they were on the show last week.

Both Christina and Adam did NOT like them at all. The guy named Tom in the band asked Christina if she felt more beautiful now that she lost all that weight? We were all shocked! She didn't quite hear the whole question and asked her assistant if she heard what he said? But then Max jumped in and said "She is beautiful no matter what you say" in mocking kind of way. Christina's boyfriend Matt Rutler was also backstage and didn't like what he was hearing. Finally Christina said, "You boys better calm down and focus on yourselves." She walked off really mad when Tom came out and told her not to worry and that "Britney still needs to work on her looks too for X Factor. It must be all those drugs she is on." Christina was so mad!

The rest of the evening Christina ignored them. The boys didn't understand why but then one of their assistants reminded them of the stuff they said earlier about Christina's weight loss and Britney's bad looks and drug taking. Nathan (who is also in the band) was really upset those things were ever said but the other guys ignored him. Tom said, "Why is she acting like such a bitch for?" Max agreed saying they were only joking around. So awkward!

Obviously it's not a fantastic result, but it's still a lot better than a handful of UK/Irish pop acts from the last 10-20 years ever managed though. Examples:

QUOTE
#27 Five - 5ive [1998]#40 All Saints - All Saints [1998]
#69 Take That - Nobody Else [1995]
#69 S Club 7 - 7 [2000]
#79 Steps - Step One [2000]
#108 Five - Invincible [2000]
#109 Cleopatra - Comin' Atcha [1998]
#112 S Club 7 - S Club [2000]
#125 Mis-Teeq - Mis-Teeq [2004]
#129 Westlife - Westlife [2000]
#152 Eternal - Always & Forever [1994]

... and some of those generally got an "oh, well good on them for even charting in the US at all" response. The Wanted managed to get a #7, which is pretty commendable really. It's unfortunate for them that One Direction have become something of a phenomenon at the same time, success not seen since the days of the Spice Girls... because they now make anything less than a huge #1 seem unimpressive.

Anyway, I say well done to TW/their team for giving it a crack, and doing reasonably well in the process. They've proved it's not totally impossible to achieve a certain level of success over there. Time will tell whether they can carry on in the US, or whether 'Glad You Came' is a fluke for them.

Posted by: LeeWallaceee May 9 2012, 01:27 AM

The thing is had One Direction had the promotion The Wanted had, their album sales would be much higher, The Wanted have underperformed Imo (Album sale wise) following the success of GYC and the promotion, I expected their two weeks sales to be much higher.

I don't think Chasing The Sun will be a massive hit in USA either tbh.

Posted by: Slick May 9 2012, 01:35 AM

I think The Wanted have done bloody well tbh. It only takes a look at Jay's stats above to see how many arguably better pop acts with longer longevity than The Wanted failed to crack even the Top 50 of the album chart in the US. Remove One Direction's massive success from the equation and pretend there is only one British boyband in the US at the moment and everyone would be praising them.

There's no denying they've not done well, but album sales have been below par. Who else can say they've perfomed on Ellen, The Voice, American Idol, Had Boyce Avenue cover their song, Fantastic radio support, Jay Leno and been all over the headlines in America (even for the wrong reasons)

I don't know I just expected them to at least be over 50,000 sales after two weeks, I strongly doubt their album will even sell more than what Battleground did in the UK. Chasing The Sun is out the top 200 on USA iTunes and their album is #103 on Itunes Albums and not in the top 100 on Amazon Albums.

It's not as simple as all that in the US though. A few TV shows over here and a subpar single can be a hit easily, it's not like that there. I'm pretty sure when Kylie goes over there she gets quite a bit of publicity and good slots to perform in, but she hasn't had a hit album or single there for years. They COULD have done much better but realistically they weren't ever going to and Top 10 is a huge achievement, low album sales or not.

With One Direction i think Americans actually like One Direction rather then just the song which is The Wanted situation.

Posted by: slowdown73 May 9 2012, 09:59 PM

I'm more surprised by One Direction's success in America than poor album sales for the Wanted. One Direction are a cheap, manufactured boyband with very little proper talent. I'm surprised they have appealed to the American audience as many successful British groups who are a lot more credible than 1D have tried and failed to crack America in the past.

Posted by: BuzzLightyear May 10 2012, 06:06 PM

The Wanted are the equivalent of a non league football team with no fan base being taken over by a sugar daddy. They're really not worthy of the promotion they get from their well connected management. Embarrassing sales figures.

Posted by: pippa May 21 2012, 09:38 AM

The Wanted in general seem to struggle to sell albums even in the UK, while the debut sold decently, around 400,000 i think, it at the same time took a long time and a few sales reductions. Their 2nd album has yet to go platnum despite glad you came been huge, that trend has continued in America and i think it will the same with their third album.

Posted by: ✞✞✞ May 21 2012, 09:58 AM

Like a lot of male popstars Stateside I think they're pretty much a singles act. That can be profitable with single sales/streaming/touring revenue/merchandise and all the rest.

British male Popstars, not american male popstars who still can sell albums.

I agree completely! One top 5 and they think they are invincible.

They have never had a number 1 album and to be honest I can see Glad You Came as being one of those one off songs that wont happen for them again. They wont break America. Chasing the Sun and their second scheduled release Heart Vacancy havent charted over there. The problem for them is do they take the UK for granted and pursue a perhaps fruitless attempt at getting another hit in America or do they consolidate the UK which in fairness they havent set the world alit in either. If a new boyband is pulled off the XFactor production line during the next series The Wanted could have a challenge selling records thru the boyband hype over here

I think they've actually done pretty well in the Uk so far. Sales of their new album were a bit disappointing but they have performed consistently with their singles. They are a lot more credible than any band which has emerged from the x factor so can't see that being a major threat and the market isnt excatly saturated with boyband acts right now unlike in the 90s so there's deffo room for another.

I agree Lee, most of their material has grown old fast. Glad You Came wont happen again, that is their killer song. Most artists are lucky to have one killer single, some dont get one at all, cant see them having two.

I doubt The Wanted will struggle in the future, Ed Drewett will keep supplying them with hits no doubt.

I had to laugh when Max said he was glad they weren't off the X Factor production line, he actually failed to get through to the live shows as part of a boyband!

His boyband got to the finals, but got replaced after they'd already had a record deal or something like that. (It was/is against X Factor rules, I believe) They were responsible for one of my favourite boyband singles in the last 5 years. ('The Last Goodbye') but now Max is in The Wanted and one of the others is having a little success in the band Lawson. (Who I predict will be pretty big in the US for some reason)

Are the Wanted doing a new album? There was talk of battleground being re-released but not heard anything about that for ages.

Posted by: ThePensmith Jun 23 2012, 07:59 PM

Ed Drewett's about to release his own material as a solo artist and has been writing with Olly Murs for his new album as well so I imagine he's casting the net in other places. The Wanted sound, from recent interviews anyway, as if they're going more US-centric (God) on this next album of theirs and that's gonna switch people off big time. The trouble is is that the success of 'Glad You Came' has bred them with massive egos thinking they've 'cracked' America when in reality - going by their album sales out there thus far anyway - they haven't.

TBH I think Lawson are a much better band and are gonna overtake them soon. I've met them and seen them play live and they're a lot nicer and they've got better material as well. 'When She Was Mine' wasn't instant, granted but wait until you hear their next single 'Taking Over Me'. Even Popjustice has been raving about it!

Posted by: Liаm Jun 23 2012, 08:03 PM

Yeah, I don't think The Wanted will particularly 'last' a lot longer if I'm honest. Not saying they'll split up, but I'm fairly sure their success will diminish. It does seem they're more US leaning now, not that I don't prefer the sound but they can't get too complacent seeing as it's the song that's broken America and not the band. Chasing The Sun looks like it'll do OK but I'd be shokced if they had anymore hits without material recorded specifically for the US, and that could lead to the 'Natasha Bedingfield effect' where the UK goes off them, the US then go off them so they come crawling back and then the UK still don't want them.

It's not even as if 'Chasing The Sun' has done well back here in the UK either. It was #2 true but they did no promotion for it apart from Britain's Got Talent - such is their relentless focus on the US - and it's chart run has been brief to say the least!

They need better writers. I cringe everytime I hear their lyrics.

I doubt The Wanted will struggle in the future, Ed Drewett will keep supplying them with hits no doubt.

I had to laugh when Max said he was glad they weren't off the X Factor production line, he actually failed to get through to the live shows as part of a boyband!

Btw I used to think they couldn't sing but One Direction have three superior singers (Liam, Harry, Zayn) to anyone in The Wanted. Don't believe me? Check this out...
