So what songs would you choose as future singles for this era and if you were Taylor, how would you plan the rest of this era?!
This is so hard tbh, but this is probs what I'd go for!
Single 3: End Game (ASAP) - released onto spotify/iTunes this week, X factor performance + video before end of year. Obvious choice for the next single and should be a massive smash!
Single 4: Dont Blame Me (late February '18) - started to be pushed with a brits performance, I really think if she performs this at the Brits it could be a massive moment for Taylor. I actually think this could become one of her longest running hits if she plays her cards right, I'm just not too sure if late February is feasible as EG could still be smashing then!
Single 5: Delicate (late May/early June '18) - pushed as single in late May as DBM dies down and video released in early/mid June. I can see this being a Style like hit with top 10 in America and this doing how Style would've done in the UK had it had streaming.
Single 6: I Did Something Bad (August '18) - premiered at VMA's with killer performance + an event video. Another big smash probably, can see this doing similarly to Bad Blood! If delicate underperforma, then this to be released with a remix.
Single 7: Getaway Car (November '18) - Promoted heavily at the end of year shows (e.g. X factor, AMA's etc) and can see this being a winter top 10 smash and doing similar to wildest dreams in America
Single 8: Call It What You Want (February '19) - obligation tour video that barely gets promoted
I can see most of the songs working as singles tbh! Gorgeous could also be the obligational tour video track (though def not a proper single, if GC rly smashes CIWYW could be a proper single & then gorgeous ends era on tour video)
So It Goes is s definite no single wise for me, New Year's Day screams album track or ending the era track, Dress could be a risk that pays off but I personally wouldn't take it.
The only other song I'd have a single is this is why we can't have Nice Things but I feel the only place in this campaign that it'd work would be the May slot (or IDSB in May with TIWWCHNT in August) but I feel releasing those two songs back to back won't do Taylor much good! (Only other suggestion really is IDSB in Feb, DBM in May, TIWWCHNT in August but I prefer my other idea and think it'd be more successful!)
Ready For It is already set to pull an Unconditionally in US pop radio (though less so because of high competition and more because of songs falling like rocks *cough LOGIC cough*) and End Game is already taking off on its own. Mess. Thus I think it might end up going like this:
Single 3: End Game (December 2017/January 2018???) - they let Ready For It run its course in the US to help prep for year-end countdowns (Look had horrible longevity but she's already secured a place at the upper echelons with IDWLF), then End Game gets sent to radio around the first/second week of January. Aside: weird how it's going to be one year since Shape Of You was released. That becomes her first single of the era with longevity and sets her up for the next couple singles. Somehow sets up a iHeartRadio Music Awards performance just as it is about to exit its peak.
Singles 4-6 (???) will probably be decided through cherry picking once it gets released on Spotify. We know End Game will obviously be #1 but then I think it may be...
Single 4: I Did Something Bad (early May 2018) - has somehow already claimed some notoriety, gets released with a high budget video in the vein of RFI but somehow accomplishes that much better. Video release during BBMA time. Also acquires better longevity than her first two singles. Somehow releases a remix with Khalid.
Single 5: This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things (around August 2018) - a couple of Taylor's videos are nominated for VMA's so it's looking like a repeat of the Wildest Dreams release. Ends up being the TGIT Fall 2018 staple theme.
Single 6: Gorgeous/Getaway Car (around late October/early November, depends on when single #5 peaks) - one of them could be of perfect use for winter promo and setting up for the international leg of the tour + Grammy time? After that she'll probably take another break, tag herself on another feature, and then prep for whatever fresh hell she'll unleash in 2019.
No matter what songs get chosen as singles (hell, Dress could somehow pop up there), Team Swift cannot afford to make any mistakes here. This is already looking like it's going the way of Prism.
Yeah I think it’s also worth noting that her team is returning to simultaneous single releases after 1989 had a strictly pop-focused schedule. However, the only song that could pull off being simultaneously released is New Year’s Day to country and that’s already happening.
3. End Game (Winter 2018) - I’d be shocked if this wasn’t a hit worldwide! In the UKIP the general situation with radio and Georgous is a mess but I’d expect them to jam this when it’s sent.
4. This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things / Georgous (April - May depending on how long End Game takes to fade) - Two Of The more upbeat songs on the album would be best as we approach summer tbh. Nice Things is VERY polarizing and I can see it doing well on radio regardless but in terms of charts either horrendously flopping or completely smashing, the video will affect this a lot. Georgous isn’t a favourite but I can see it doing okay with Nice Things smashing or overshadowing it and doing well if the public don’t take to Nice Things, a sort of get out clause if Nice Things flops. It already has AirPlay across Europe but I don’t see that stopping it being taken on again, it’s done relatively well for a promo track so it’s clearly liked.
6. I Did Something Bad (Summer 2018) - VMAs, ‘controversial’ video probably getting people talking, I can see this smashing!
7. Getaway Car (Fall 2018) - Radio are gonna make everyone sick of this if it’s released I swear It’ll get massive radio airplay, huge TV performances (UK ones included!) and definite smash. Deserved. ❤️
8. Delicate / Don’t Blame Me (Winter 2019) - Delicate is very radio friendly especially at this time of year *.* With this being the eighth single I doubt it’ll be a priority success wise like OOTW and New Romantics but the timing should help some sales of the album and I think people here especially would lap it up. If we have a bit of taste left anyway!! ❤️ Don’t Blame Me probably wouldn’t do nearly as well but it would highlight the more darker side of the album and get people a bit snobby about pop etc maybe interested and gaining her credibility tbh.
10. Call It What You Want (Spring 2019) - I wouldn’t give this a huge push, I think a tour video it does take quite a lot of time to hit you (as addictive as I find it now), for most people at least but I think it really highlights the more chilled out side of the album and would provide a good lead in to Taylor 7 *.*
So I may have gotten a little carried away with this Of The five unlucky songs NYD maybe would work at that time of year and on country radio but no otherwise, So It Goes and Dancing just wouldn’t work imo and KOMH and Dress could be risks but on an album with so many guaranteed smashes not worth taking!
Just Promote something in the UK it feels Luke she not even bothering at least with the Ed overkill he was everywhere promoting
I feel like this is already over - they'll be more videos but I can't imagine the singles are going to get much traction unless she does a Bad Blood kind of remix.
Agreed. The only thing left now that could potentially save the era a little bit more is 'This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things' with a video as controversial as 'Bad Blood'/'Look What You Made Me Do'
I’m not entirely sure the public is here for another song about Taylor whining about the hate she gets and her reputation. I can see IDSB after the Women’s March and the Me Too stuff but I think we’re ready for a calmer Taylor now. Getaway Car & DWOHT seem like the songs that are most like her 1989 days.
I really feel like her next album is really going to struggle off the back of the singles' success of this era.
I have decided to change my opinion due to the recent outlook. I'm including what's already been released in order to view the selection as a whole.
