Nigh on a year to the day (well, two days earlier) since ROTD 2017 kicked off, so it's time for the yearly edition of Buzzjack's OFFICIAL ranking of the songs of the last decade. If you've been here for one of these before, you'll know what to expect, if not read on. But, there's a twist.

That twist is, well, you know how we've had one round for the no-hopers and then a round for the finalists of each year? Not any more. Each year will this time only have ONE round. Nominations will go compete directly against the autoqualifiers. This will have the effect of making each individual round hopefully more unpredictable, the competition on the whole not taking as long as it normally does, and finally, be a bit less work on myself. This competition is a beast to run at the best of times and I'm surprised it's taken me this long to executively decide that the separate rounds weren't entirely necessary. On the downside, there's a bit less ROTD. I hope y'all are okay with that.

Of course, that'll just mean that people will just be keener to vote because the songs they want to support will be available straight away so if you want to join in and make your opinion count towards Buzzjack's overall ranking of the past decade you are very welcome to do so. There will be a round or two to take part in each week from now until it's done and you can take part in all rounds or as many as you want to.

The 35 most popular songs (as deemed by last year's ROTD or the Buzzjack Multichart, and I must say, having not been up on 2017's charts, that lot are looking quite pleasingly questionable) are already nominated for the rounds, so this preliminary round is to decide which songs are going to join them and seek to depose them from their safety of definitely being in the game. The top 35 songs from each round will autoqualify, the top 5 will go straight to the final, and 6th-20th will move on to a semi final of unconfirmed format. The autoqualified songs will be in Post 2 and I'll try and keep an updated list of nominated songs in Post 3. Use Ctrl + F for best results - and note that I don't use 'The' for bands or acts that start with that word for Excel sorting purposes.

FOR NOW, all I will be asking for is for you to take a look at the autoqualified list and rack your brains for songs that should be in this list. Anything can be nominated, obscure tracks, album tracks, but hits that aren't in the list are the best options for actually getting other people to point them. But by all means try that BJSC hit or a cult classic, I'd love to see some new faces among the successful songs. As long as it was released in the last ten years or had its UK Chart peak in the last 10 years, it's fine. For which year each song belongs in, in most questionable situations (but not all, I use a bit of common sense) I go with the UK chart peak, be careful if you're from another country where tracks are released at different times, or in today's chart world, thought of a track as one year before it peaked in another year, if it never had a chart peak, then its release date is fine. To check these peaks you can use polyhex or the OCC site by searching the track in question.

A song only needs to be nominated once to get through. If you're struggling, think of minor chart hits, major chart hits that aren't here because Buzzjack needs to love them more, songs you remember really liking, songs that are Buzzjack cult hits, Eurovision tracks, even song contest hits. You can nominate anything but it may be useful to try and predict what other people like because as much as I love individuality, a song isn't going to make an impact in the yearly rounds with only one person's votes.

Despite the reduction in rounds, you can keep your 30 nominations for the whole thing, and that 30 is so that you'll use about 3 for each year but can if you want to be, be a bit flexible. You don't have to use all of them. Nominations ideally should be like this:

and so on.

I don't know with the charts anymore, being away for a few months threw me out of sync with what's 2017 and what's 2018. Just don't nominate anything that's clearly 2018 and if it does get nominated it'll get moved next year. Feel It Still notably is an AQ for 2017 right now, if it stays where it is, I'll move it over to 2018 next year. I'm not going to be draconian about which year each song belongs in this time, I just may move your nominations around if something's CLEARLY in the wrong year.

Otherwise, you have a week to nominate in all rounds and rounds will close for nominating as the first round goes up, so you have at least until Saturday 2nd June for nominating. Let's go!
