I kinda hope she releases a stand-alone single (collab? plz) just when things are dying down chart-wise (like the start of December) so she can get that I Would Like style-charting hit and keep the hype for her going. Then a big pop banger very slightly influenced by whatever is popular at the time (a la New Rules) in Spring 2018 for the lead for DL2. Then ideally we'd get a second single around this time next year, and a grat at the start of Q4 to tide us over, before the album release in peak Q4.

It also wouldn't hurt for her to have a few more collabs (like Scared To Be Lonely, or even No Lie) with big-ish artists to keep her name in the charts.

What do you think, and how would you deal with Dua's future song releases in the build up to DL2?

I wouldn't say New Rules is influenced by current trends... quite the opposite in fact. I don't think Dua or her label expected this amount of success either.

I don't think she should be rushed. I find that rushing artists who are building popularity often leads to a slump when it gets to album 2. Ideally she'll wait until Q3 or Q4 in 2018 before she releases any new music. Pushing another single from the album is a better move to get those extra album sales. I can even see this album going platinum.

They definitely need to buck their ideas up after how messy this era was. No constant pushbacks, and at most two singles before the album's out. I think a brand new single in Q1 could be good, followed by a second single and the album in Q3. Q4 is still a pretty dangerous territory but a Q3 release leaves it quite fresh to be able to sell over the Christmas period still if she plays her cards right!

I just fear she'll lose the buzz around her and get lost in the sea of female pop singers. Personally, I think it's really important she chucks herself on a few tracks that suit her - like a Clean Bandit collab, for example, would be the perfect segue between eras as it'd e a guaranteed smash and keep her name out there.

She can't be overexposed though.

She'll be fine. A few months without new music isn't too drastic. She's just had an official #1 so the GP won't be forgetting her anytime soon.

I can see possible future dance collaborations with Dua coming from acts like Sigala, Clean Bandit, Rudimental, and/or even Jonas Blue with all four likely having new singles in the next 4 months. Hopefully not all at once laugh.gif but I can very much see her still sticking around through Q4 and into the New Year.

Upcoming dance collaborations could work in her favour to be honest before the release of her second album. However, I would say that she needs to pick the right ones and they shouldn't be too many (two at the very least) to not overexposed herself as well.

Ideally, a late September (like it was going to happen with her self-titled debut album before the pushbacks) or October release of her second album next year would be the best if it's considered that she already started working on it, releasing two singles beforehand, likely in late May and the remaining to launch the album in late August or early September.
