Mansonette Joined: 3 November 2009 Posts: 6,910 User: 9,872	The problem with kicking teams out of a competition is that it is open to organised subterfuge. For example, I have a friend whose son was born, raised and lives in England but because his mother is German he supports Germany. He could in theory go to an England game and make a number of racist gestures or chants and easily pass for an England fan, even with a solid investigation carried out, and therefore get the team sanctioned or expelled. Rival supporters would potentially look to exploit this punishment and have sides instantly banned. I know he is an extreme example and would be a minority case but arguably so are the racists, even if it is more widespread in other countries. We know these kind of individuals are capable of organised action and so a more measured approach is required. It would also be harsh to have a team expelled for a handful of idiot scumbags who do not represent their national or club side. Personally I feel it should be more complex. Teams that have a racism issue but take no action or insufficient steps to resolve the problem should initially be fined and given penalty points similar to a driving licence. Repeat infractions incur a points deduction and fines and ultimately expulsion. This gives them fair warning and time to take action on the root causes much like British football did beginning in the 80s. Out leagues are by no means perfect but they are vastly superior to most others.

A Robins statement, following Luton's 3-0 win, said they "naturally condemn any form of abuse or racist language".

I’m not sure kicking them out is the answer as it doesn’t really solve the problem it just puts it in a different corner. There are some aspects of society that think this behaviour is acceptable, by sheer coincidence they unfortunately happen to be quite fond of football. Taking them out of football doesn’t stop them being racist. It doesn’t stop them racially abusing players from behind anonymous twitter accounts. It’s not the answer because it doesn’t solve the issue at hand in my opinion. I’d really like to hear from Sterling, Rashford and any of the other hundreds upon hundreds of footballers of colour who are racially abused as to what they would like to see done and how they would like to see things tackled. They’re on the receiving end of it, any solution will only work if it shuts off all avenues of this vile abuse they have to handle daily and any solution needs to tackle the things that we don’t see as the majority group but are blindly obvious to the minority groups

United launched an investigation after the fan was ejected during the first half of the 1-1 draw at Old Trafford. A club statement read: "Racism and all forms of discrimination are completely unacceptable and do not reflect the values of our club. "This individual isn't welcome at Old Trafford." United said the ban is subject to appeal.

Taison, 31, made a gesture towards the Dynamo fans and kicked the ball at them before the referee took the players off the pitch in the 77th minute.

The club said several players had been subjected to racial abuse and the team walked off in the 68th minute following information from the referee. "We condemn racism and discrimination in all forms," a Hertha statement said.

The league received heavy criticism from Italian clubs AC Milan and Roma as well as anti-discrimination organisations for the posters. "I realised it was inappropriate," said the league's chief executive Luigi De Siervo in a statement. Artist Simone Fugazzotto had defended his creation by saying "we are all monkeys".

Referee Anthony Taylor stopped play during the second half after Blues defender Antonio Rudiger complained of hearing monkey noises. Tottenham have vowed to "take the strongest possible action" and said they will conduct "a thorough investigation". Shortly after the stoppage, an announcement made over the public address system warned that "racist behaviour is interfering with the game". Second and third addresses followed with the game heading towards its conclusion. The PFA said: "We are disgusted and dismayed that once again, a Premier League fixture has been tainted by abuse from the stands towards players. "It has become clear that football players are on the receiving end of the blatant racism that is currently rife in the UK, but they are not alone. "The PFA stands beside every player who faces discrimination. We will continue to fight on their behalf to combat this issue for good. "Football is part of the fabric of British society - with the huge global audience that English football attracts, we have a responsibility to lead the way with a zero-tolerance policy." The PFA added that "all governing bodies" and "all football stakeholders" should work together to "confront, challenge and eradicate racist abuse in our stadiums and in our country". It said: "The PFA calls for a government inquiry into racism within football and encourage the establishment of an All-Party Group at the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport." Spurs confirmed that they will be liaising with Chelsea and their players for their observations. "Any form of racism is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated in our stadium," said Spurs in a statement. "We take any such allegations extremely seriously and shall take the strongest possible action against any individual found to be behaving in such a way, including stadium bans." The Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) and Tottenham have confirmed that the game was stopped over a single incident of alleged racist behaviour.

After the 1-1 draw on Saturday, Williams, 25, said: "No black player or any player ever wants to hear that." La Liga is attempting to identify the fans involved and bring criminal charges of hate crimes against them. The Spanish FA is scheduled to discuss the issue at a meeting on Wednesday.

Police launched an investigation following allegations of abuse during the Scottish Premiership clash with Celtic on Sunday 29 December. Disgusting to hear.
