Currently drowning under assignment deadlines so no witticisms from me this week, only going to say that your deadline for votes is 23:59 Thursday 6th Nov. Vote by PM to me in the same format as last week (if you need any clarification I will happily respond to any PMs biggrin.gif)

There's a LOT of shit in these rounds

But it's all fine because my top four for 2007 are so *.* I could DIE!

Posted by: Outcast 30th October 2014, 05:50 AM

2007 was the worst ESC year. I like the most 2008 non-qualifiers (include my # 1, # 3, # 4).

Posted by: Conderella 30th October 2014, 06:28 AM

2007 rejects are so terrible. But 8/10 (Latvia and Moldova sitting this one out but I didn't mind them~) qualifiers were absolutely FABULOUS so I'm not complaining. No wonder 2007 is probably my favourite ESC year ever. <3

Posted by: AdamAloud 30th October 2014, 07:46 PM

VODKAAAAAAA

A TRANSPARENT WORD

Posted by: Outcast 31st October 2014, 05:40 AM

All your "Voda", "Molitva", "Visionary Dream", "Cvet Z Juga", "On Top of the World" still shit.

Best song from Eurovision 2007 is ...

Also, people are giving Czech Republic 2007 points unironicaly. I know 2007's a poor year but it's not THAT bad surely!

So pleased I don't have to be the one to save Malá dáma from nil points! biggrin.gif

(also 2008 is FAR worse, I currently have LETO SVET of all things on for unironic points)

Posted by: AdamAloud 2nd November 2014, 07:11 PM

I will never understand this forums weird hatred for 'Have Some Fun'! Sure there's so much stronger pop from 2008 but to consider LETO SVET more worthy of points is quite frankly making me concerned for your state of mind.

Posted by: Iz~ 2nd November 2014, 07:17 PM

I never said Have Some Fun was one of the worse ones! It is, incidentally, but I had no idea others around here agreed with me. Basic pop at its absolute worst.

Posted by: O Mie 2nd November 2014, 07:54 PM

I do have a soft spot for Mala Dama tongue.gif Leto Svet on the other hand is beyond dire

Erm I was ALWAYS going to vote for it. mad.gif So catchy. The live performance was shit tho

Posted by: Qassändra 2nd November 2014, 09:13 PM

Mala Dama is FUCKING AWFUL

Have Some Fun (original edit, not 'easternised' Eurovision edit) is ART

Posted by: gooddelta 2nd November 2014, 10:52 PM

I racked up SO many plays of the demo version of Have Some Fun in 2008, the ESC version was terminal though.

Posted by: gooddelta 2nd November 2014, 11:00 PM

Voted. The 2007 DNQ's are truly awful, I only particularly care for my top two and even so, I wasn't absolutely devestated that they didn't make the final. 2008's on the other hand are so good, I LOVE a good six or seven of them!

Posted by: LexC 5th November 2014, 07:10 PM

Reminder: You vote in both years or none of them.

Why ?
There is a different voting for both years and you don't count overall % of points for qualifying.

Posted by: LexC 7th November 2014, 09:40 PM

STARTING SOON!

Posted by: LexC 7th November 2014, 09:45 PM

Kicking off with 2007...

QUALIFIER ONE:

You've got the studio version because the live version was taking too long to find, plus the video is actually pretty good! (also, it's better to forget that live performance ever existed oops).

Posted by: Iz~ 7th November 2014, 09:47 PM

That shit gets through?!

Well, it can (probably) only go up from here.

SHUSH

'Vampires Are Alive' is brilliantly trashy heart.gif

Posted by: LexC 7th November 2014, 09:50 PM

QUALIFIER TWO:

Qualifier number two is, IMHO, the best thing Cyprus have ever sent that despite this fact was cruelly rejected by Europe. Her eyes and how she uses them really bring this perf to life for me, Slayvridiki!

Posted by: Ryan. 7th November 2014, 09:51 PM

A Cypriot entry finally getting the qualification it deserves! wub.gif Can we make sure Christina gets through too in 2009, such a beautiful song and performance.

Posted by: AdamAloud 7th November 2014, 09:53 PM

I'm sure if we'd had the two semi final system in 2007, Cyprus would've sailed through and rightfully so!

Posted by: LexC 7th November 2014, 09:57 PM

QUALIFIER THREE:

Familiar territory here for seasoned followers of Eurovision (we'll get to this song's similarly floppy cousin 'Quero Ser Tua' in a few weeks) in Portugal's 11th placer complete with superfluous samba stage left. As you do.

Posted by: AdamAloud 7th November 2014, 10:00 PM

Not Portugal's best, but certainly worthy of a qualification in this dire semi.

Posted by: LexC 7th November 2014, 10:01 PM

QUALIFIER FOUR:

On a similar note to Portugal, Norway. Imagine in an alternative universe, where Geri Haliwell wins Strictly Come Dancing and then decides to release a cash in song with a salsa twist. This is that song.

Decide for yourselves if that description means it's amazing or dire.

Posted by: AdamAloud 7th November 2014, 10:05 PM

Meh.

Hoping for Montenegro/The Netherlands in the last two spots!

Posted by: Iz~ 7th November 2014, 10:06 PM

Out of what's realistic (I see you leaving Iceland alone you bad people), I would like any two of Estonia, Netherlands or Montenegro.

Posted by: LexC 7th November 2014, 10:07 PM

QUALIFIER FIVE:

An oriental inspired number from Malta is our penultimate qualifier. Everything is well executed here, with the slight exception of Olivia's high notes but I'm willing to forgive those NOXical moments for the various fanographic moments.

One spot left? Pretty sure it's Czech Republic's to lose but we press on...

Posted by: LexC 7th November 2014, 10:14 PM

QUALIFIER SIX:

Silly racist Eastern Europe not voting this through! Until recently Edsilia held the title of 'most recent hit' for the Dutch at Eurovision for her first entry in 1998 (which is also far better than this btw).

So yeah, that's 2007. This was a mostly uncontested race from these 6 qualifiers with only one other song running them close. Now, we press on to 2008!

Posted by: AdamAloud 7th November 2014, 10:14 PM

Poor, brave Montenegro

Posted by: LexC 7th November 2014, 10:19 PM

So, 2008...

QUALIFIER ONE:

And the Dutch make it a clean sweep in this week's results. I find this one a *touch* overrated in fan circles but still, G'WAN NETHERLANDS!

Posted by: BLUE 7th November 2014, 10:20 PM

12 Czech Republic: Kabát - Malá dáma
10 Denmark: DQ - Drama Queen

yasss netherlands

now belgium plz

Posted by: LexC 7th November 2014, 10:23 PM

QUALIFIER TWO:

I fully endorse the sentiments of this song. Malta join Netherlands in this week's clean sweep club (yes, I KNOW it's easier to do that in the one week where there's only two years, hush) with this ode to binge drinking.

Posted by: AdamAloud 7th November 2014, 10:25 PM

YES

Posted by: LexC 7th November 2014, 10:28 PM

QUALIFIER THREE:

Yass Rebeka Dremslay! A genuine gem of a Eurovision song that was lost to the semi final system (to say nothing of the costume choices in that perf LMAO).

Posted by: Iz~ 7th November 2014, 10:30 PM

Yes yes yes Slovenia wub.gif The main one I was caring about from this year.

Posted by: AdamAloud 7th November 2014, 10:31 PM

Love 'Vrag naj vzame', glad they kept it in Slovenian and not the dire English version.

Posted by: LexC 7th November 2014, 10:33 PM

QUALIFIER FOUR:

Note to self: it's generally poor etiquette to turn up to a singing contest dressed as a copper kettle and proceed to sing off key throughout the performance. Still, people seem to like this one and it's through!

Posted by: AdamAloud 7th November 2014, 10:35 PM

Poor Andorra, that really should've qualified for them.

Posted by: LexC 7th November 2014, 10:39 PM

QUALIFIER FIVE:

My personal favourite from the 2008 DNQs, it's Switzerland with some stupendous (lol am so punny) semi anthemic balladry.

So, a rather hotly contester final qualification space is up for grabs, who got it?....

Posted by: AdamAloud 7th November 2014, 10:41 PM

Not keen on the Swiss song if I'm honest.

The last spot simply MUST be Macedonia!

Posted by: LexC 7th November 2014, 10:43 PM

since I'm in the mood for some tension, here are your four contenders for the last qualification spot....

BELGIUM

BULGARIA

CZECH REPUBLIC

and
MACEDONIA

...only one goes through, speculate!

Posted by: Ryan. 7th November 2014, 10:44 PM

Czech Republic please and then my top 6 all qualified! ohmy.gif

Posted by: AdamAloud 7th November 2014, 10:45 PM

1. Macedonia
2. Bulgaria
3. Czech Republic
4. Belgium

Order of PREFERENCE and NECESSITY

Posted by: LexC 7th November 2014, 10:47 PM

QUALIFIER SIX:

That instumental chorus and extended intro, you'd be forgiven for thinking this song came from 2014! Bulgaria claim the final spot in this week's qualifiers (there first of hopefully many, naming no gif related names).

Thank you and good night, Scoreboard up later/tomorrow.

2007 :
All my favourites : Norway (my # 3 in 2007), Portugal and Cyprus are qualified cheer.gif

2008 :
Disappointed by results.
MUST BE beautiful "Femme Fatale" (my # 3 in 2008) and Hungary instead of trash from Malta and Netherlands.
"Irelande Douze Pointe" is the most hilarious ESC song ever.
Happy for Gisela (my # 1 in 2008) and Bulgaria.
