Simple, what games are you enjoying right now? Feel free to use this as a general chat topic and maybe a testing ground to see if any game you like could be spun off into a topic for itself.

I got Lego Marvel Superheros 2 for Crimbo so just started that. The fact She Hulk is a somehwat major character makes me moist tbh.

Civ III! I tried playing that a few months ago but that's a bit retro even for me considering I started at IV and quickly went onto V.

I have my usual Paradox grand strategy games, feeling Crusader Kings 2 a bit more than Europa Universalis IV right now, I've got a good King Of Finland run going in the former where I'm trying to reform the Finnish pagan religion. In EUIV I'm just speeding as Poland until the end to get their 'Poland can into space' achievement, stopping occasionally to beat up on the Russians and the Ottomans.

I've also been working through some cheap indie games getting all of the achievements. Currently working on Gunpoint, a short little stealth platformer with a pretty self-aware sense of humour, I finished it but there's a few achievements left to go.

and I'm doing visual novels (Higurashi) as well

The Paradox ones are good. I like Europa Universalis - Rome the best.

At the moment I’m of course playing Call of Duty: WWII.

They’ve done this SO right. Every thing feels real, especially compared to 2016’s Infinite Warfare. It’s definitely in my top 5 all time CoD titles, perhaps even top 3, but I haven’t really ranked them yet.

Also got Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered for Christmas. I haven’t played much of it yet but I of course know it very well as I’ve played the original!

Also playing Sonic Forces. It isn’t worth money!

Also playing YoWorld (YoVille) still on a daily basis since 2009.

Posted by: Iz~ 6th January 2018, 10:59 PM

Rome huh, now that's a name I don't hear often in the context of the EU series. That's kind of like an expansion to III, right? I have III but I just can't really go back to it because IV is so much better and it has achievements and is the absolute best game ever.

I've just bought Civ VI. mellow.gif I've been wanting to buy it since release and with it currently being easily past its lowest price ever PLUS six random other games to get in a month, subscribing to Humble Monthly to get it is a steal.

I played Modern Warfare 1 and Black Ops 1 back in the day and I have MW2 on Steam for whenever I feel the urge to jump in a campaign but I don't really play it, not in multiplayer. Not really my scene sorry. I'm single-player and strategy oriented, which does make me incredibly NON-SOCIAL I know.

Like I'm interested in the campaigns (the campaigns of all three that I have played were rather good as far as FPSs go) and maybe maybe I'll pick up some of the newer ones at some indeterminate point but it and Assassin's Creed stand out to me as old bloated franchises that in the nicest way possible to not offend you as you seem to be a big fan, seem to be running out of ideas.

Posted by: Lorde 6th January 2018, 11:42 PM

The CoD MW2 campaign is actually my all time favourite from the franchise! Incredible.

I’m more of an online player to be honest, so I guess we’re just polar opposites of each other laugh.gif

I do like some single-player gaming, but it doesn’t excite me as much as online gaming does.

Omg it is SO disappointing, I'm quite a bit of a Sonic fan when they get it right but yet again this is a case of could've been amazing with so much potential. Everything that could have been amazing is so half assed, for example they've got the different facets of old Sonic, new Sonic and the custom character which bring so many different mechanics, but it would have been better if maybe they just focused on the Modern Sonic and refined the mechanics that brings. There's a lot of mechanics you just use a ciuole of times really and they easily could have just tried a little bit more and fleshed it out.

Its not terribke but it should be like a £10 indie game on Steam not a full price PS4 retail release game.

Posted by: Lorde 7th January 2018, 12:10 AM

It cost me £29.99 IIRC! I low-key wish I returned it to get my money back. laugh.gif

Posted by: Liаm 7th January 2018, 12:34 AM

I got it £32.99 in Game on release day drama.gif Both what we paid is really double what it's worth at best!

Posted by: Lorde 7th January 2018, 12:36 AM

I don’t mind paying a lot for games if they’re worth it. Like for example I paid £49 for the new Call Of Duty game, but it’s worth every penny!

Right now I am pretty obsessed with Minecraft laugh.gif From playing online to playing single player and peacefully building my house. I quite like games that are peaceful although I do quite enjoy the opposite like tense or shoot em ups etc too.

Posted by: Oliver 7th January 2018, 10:23 AM

I've just finished the original InFamous (I got it off Sony for that time like 10 years ago when the whole YLOD thing came about laugh.gif) so I've decided to start South Park: The Stick of Truth.

Loving it at the minute; the humour is exactly what I'd expect, and it's staying very true to the TV show so far. The gameplay is great as well (I love RPGs so that was a given)!

At the moment I'm mostly cycling between the ultimate time sink that is Rocket League and the very confusing murder mystery visual novel that is Umineko When They Cry.

right, I was continuing this, I was getting quite bored of the game, but SUDDENLY, the ruler of Castile, the second greatest power after me, died, left his throne to Austria (as is only historically right, damn von Habsburgs) and I was able to challenge it in a succession war. I've never actually had the math work out so I'm the aggressor in a succession war and it's so much more challenging than being the defender. And this time I'm basically going to double my power in one fell swoop if I win.

Even when I assume I've played too much of this game it still surprises me. <3

Another Paradox game, Crusader Kings II!

I started off as a count in Aargua in the Holy Roman Empire, plotted and schemed to take the county of upper Burgundy and as the same countess achieved that aim. I deposed most of the other counts so I could rule directly myself AND after crusading against muslim invaders in Sicily the pope make me Queen of Sicily! Unfortunately I had gavelkind succession so my next character lost half his titles to stupid siblings and then he died in battle after only a couple of years (he was amazing as well) so I'm now his daughter. The territory I own is so messy rn because I have a couple of counties in Eastern and Northern Germany through grants from the Emperor and dodgey inheritance. as well as (obvs) parts of Sicily.

If you don't play the game that will all seem like nonsense soz.

ETA: Oh yeah and my current character's cruel, nihilistic, a drunkard, a lunatic, a glutton and a kinslayer (had to kill off a couple of sisters because they had counties I wanted) so no one likes her much sadly.

Every other character I play is like that before I realise it's a lot more fun playing someone who everyone likes... while being a Littlefinger on the side, can't stop the plotting and the murders for anything.

though the events you get as a lunatic are incredible

I am in the middle of an intense war with the Ottomans as Byzantium. It's not quite a war for survival, I've already beaten them in one war but they've come back for round 2 sad.gif

I'm on a Roman theme as I've also got quite the interesting Roman Civ 5 game going on right now. Best nation state.

also I want to make a statement that Mion is best girl forever and ever and no one will ever dissuade me from that view.

Mion really stood out for me from the beginning because she has some of the best idiosyncrasies, as well as probably the most range of emotions, from confident, to snarky, to flustered, to...the end of that chapter. I only don't want to close the book on things because I'm still waiting on the rest of the chapters to come out and I feel there's more to the rest of the cast I haven't seen yet. I've also recently watched the first 2 chapters of the anime and I really like how hyperactive and fun Rena is in a lot of scenes, something they can't really relay through the VNs. Still, enjoy the easy 100%'s :^) although the next chapter is not an easy read at all ph34r.gif

In a related sense I've read the first 2 chapters of Umineko and about to get stuck into the 3rd one. Similar format to Higurashi though taken at a wildly different approach.

Exactly, I love her competitive, leaderlike attitude and she feels the deepest character of them all. Although I feel like I've just read her 'focus' chapter so that's probably skewed a bit that way. I could definitely go with Rika in other options, she's adorable, and Rena's been surprisingly good lately, wasn't keen on her at first (like you say, she's better in the anime) but she really sold it towards the end of this chapter. I mean, I doubt any of them will get ahead of Mion because she's too perfect but maybe?

I started them because they looked like easy 100%s ahaha, and well, they are but I got a lot more out of that deal than I was expecting <3

I shall have to get on Umineko afterwards because I'm in love with this format.

Yeah, it's hard to get a good read on Rena through just Onikakushi because she's so prominently the 'antagonist' then, so it's like a whole different side of things. But still since the only answer arc I've been able to read thus far is the companion to Watanagashi, I feel like Keiichi, Mion (and Shion) are the only characters I really know well. Rena & Rika are really mysterious and I find myself constantly suspicious of Takano & Oishi. But either way, Mion is forever schooling everyone at club activities which is most important.

Umineko is really interesting because on the surface, it's a very standard murder mystery setting, but it dives into a lot of meta territory and feels like it's actively testing the reader to solve it. Cast dynamic is also very different to Higurashi as it's centered around 3 generations of family in an inheritance dispute, as many motives as there are corpses.

Finally blitzing through GTA V, had it ages and didn't get that far but I'm proper into it now. It does take a while to do some missions because it's so fun doing simple stuff and I've gotten into putting the super jump cheat on and just leaping across the map, even that is just too fun laugh.gif

Posted by: Dexton 8th February 2018, 01:34 AM

I haven’t played GTA in years! ohmy.gif

I bought the $12 Humble Bundle for Civilization 6 & 2 DLC’s a couple of weeks ago so I’ve been on & off playing that, taking over the world usually by domination. It’s the most exciting win, really, although I have had Religious & Science Victories against the AI (which is less fun by definition tongue.gif). Civ 6 has had a lot of flack for basically not being Civ 5 as quite a few features from Civ 5 vanished in Civ 6, essentially the same issue many people had with the release of The Sims 4 after the brilliance of Sims 3 - but the producers have steadily worked their back up to the point where Sims 4 isn’t too far behind Sims 3 in terms of content and quality. With the Rise & Fall expansion coming soon, I hope Civ 6 will improve also - if not I’ll stay play laugh.gif I love it

Posted by: Iz 8th February 2018, 07:41 AM

Someone else getting into Civ 6 biggrin.gif

I've been really enjoying that although I'm still playing Civ 5 as well so I haven't got myself a win yet. I wouldn't actually call it a Sims 3 to 4 type deal at all, lest we forget, at this point in Civ 5's development cycle, they still didn't have any form of RELIGION, something that should be sort of basic to a Civ game, although of course they turned that around. The way 6 is going, I bet it'll be regarded similarly or better to 5 by the time the second expansion after Rise & Fall comes out.

But no, I find Civ 6 really quite engaging and different with a lot of new stuff I haven't quite figured out how to master. Then, because I know 5 pretty much inside out, there's very little there that seems new to me and pretty much all of the parts I care about are in Civ 6.

Posted by: Dexton 8th February 2018, 08:11 AM

That’s a fair point I forgot to mention, I didn’t actually get Civ 5 until just before Civ 6 was released and I got both expansions along with it - so I’ve only ever known the finished product of Civ 5 so my opinion is a bit uneducated tongue.gif

Posted by: Iz 8th February 2018, 04:01 PM

Oh to be fair I only ever played the original Civ 5 a couple of times myself, it was horrendous and kept me on Civ 4 until the Complete Edition with Gods & Kings and Brave New World came out - which is always the best way to do it with Civ, although getting this Humble Bundle (as I did) isn't a bad way to start either.

Will you be getting the Rise & Fall expansion any time soon? I wasn’t planning on it before but I’ve heard lots of great things about it and the governor feature reminds me of the social policies in Civ 5 a bit tongue.gif

Posted by: Iz 12th February 2018, 09:51 AM

At some point in the future, I will because it does sound like they've added some good features - although the governors look good, the artstyle for them with their names that don't change but should depending on the civ you're playing makes me want to rage, but I want to play out original Civ 6 a bit while I wait for the expansion to drop in price a little (and hopefully some other bundle with the DLCs for the civs I'm missing too, because the likes of Persia, Indonesia, Macedonia and Poland sound really cool). Probably earliest I'll get it will be later this year when sales start. In case it wasn't obvious, I cheapskate games so hard.

Ooh, enjoy! I've seen that name around but as I've already seen the TV series I wasn't sure whether it was worth picking it up. Let me know how it goes.

Posted by: Dircadirca 3rd March 2018, 04:29 PM

Finally finished the first half of Umineko. Took longer than I expected, a whole 62 hours for a story that primarily takes place across just 2 days biggrin.gif Absolute thrill ride though. What starts by being presented as a classic murder mystery slowly unravels with fantastical elements, seemingly to challenge you, the reader, to submit to the absurdity in place of a solution grounded in reality. It was wearing on me initially but once I started getting into the 3rd chapter, I found myself champing at the bit to play more and more. There's a hugely bloated cast of roughly 40 characters but not many feel particularly redundant, or if they do, it's probably because they're on the way to unveil a side of them not-yet-seen. I'm glad that unlike with Higurashi, I can pick up reading the second half as soon as I want since it's actually been released tongue.gif

On the more game-y side of things, I've been playing a lot of Splasher lately, which is a 2D platformer largely unknown outside of France that I picked up on because many of my friends over there had been speedrunning it. Kind of like Super Meat Boy but without being punishingly difficult. Rather the levels are filled with checkpoints and tricky junctures, so the game expects you to die a lot, but without being much of a problem. As a platformer though the levels are really nicely designed, with all the hallmarks of introducing a gimmick and expanding upon it gradually, and also not trying to deceive the player by obfuscating rewards or traps.

I'm also generally trying to tidy up my Steam library and get onto a bunch of games I've left unfinished. Then I'm going to get Celeste which is so highly acclaimed and in my wheelhouse that I'll surely get a lot out of it.

Posted by: Iz 3rd March 2018, 09:32 PM

I've been trying to tidy up my Steam library as well. By just picking a random game I haven't played, installing it and seeing how good (or bad) it is and seeing how many achievements I can get really easily.

I finished Higurashi chapter 3 a few days ago which was intense and incredible and just even more confusing than the other two. Chapter 4 so far is a bit less good seeing as how it's a flashback but it's a short one and I'm sure will reveal something interesting, I'm very hyped to get on Chapter 5 and actually get some answers, and then apparently wait forever to get the other chapters on Steam.

Posted by: Dircadirca 4th March 2018, 08:00 AM

Chapter 3 is really peculiar because I remember starting it and being thoroughly amused with the antics on the baseball team & cooking competitions, more so than previously, but it's almost as if that's just a set up so you let your guard down with how intense it gets. For what is a outlandish series, all the domestic violence stuff feels so uncomfortably real. Chapter 4 is a bit peculiar and I think was originally treated as a bonus chapter. From what I understand, the protagonist of it eventually becomes important but I don't recall him appearing in Chapter 5 so I'm not sure when. There's a thrilling action sequence and some creepy stuff with Rika, but otherwise not quite as enthralling as the other chapters.

I'm also hoping to believe that they're going to release chapters 6-8 together, perhaps in mid June so the release lines up with Watanagashi which would be June 17th this year, that'd make up for the lack of updates of late. biggrin.gif

Just got the platinum for it now. I enjoyed the story the first time, but not the NUMEROUS other times I had to go through to get the slightly different endings (definitely got a bit tedious towards the end).

The '2048' style mini-game was time consuming as well and I almost lost the will to live as you need to get over 600,000 points to be able to buy all the extra pictures and voices (and that is with a cloud save).

Playing Knack at the minute and whilst it's fairly enjoyable, it's all a bit...meh?

Like the graphics are nice (for a 5 year old game) and the gameplay is fairly fast paced (although incredibly linear (like worse than Final Fantasy XIII linear laugh.gif) but its just there, like a decent 7/10.

The checkpoints are ABSOLUTELY HORRENDOUS though and almost gamebreakinig, you could get through about 4 or 5 "rooms" (basically where the enemies are in between little corridors) without a scratch and then one tiny mistake and you're put right back at the beginning (it also doesn't help that until you get more relics you're basically a one-shot kill target). drama.gif

Plus to get the platinum trophy with copious amounts of luck will still take you at least 2 playthroughs, normal amount of luck probably 3 or 4...

Grand Ages Medieval which I just got recently. Which doesn't have the best reviews, as it is complicated to play apparently with the trade but with me only having two cities at the moment it is fun and I like the realness of it, how it makes you account for all the needs of medieval people. The city views are lovely when zoomed up, you can see your city from a near ground level perspective which I like! I worry when my empire gets bigger though it will get too complicated to manage with trade and production but will persevere anyway!

FINALLY got a chance to play ma PS4 that I bought last year and only used once laugh.gif

Finished Bioshock Infinite and Last Of Us this summer and I loved both of them! The former was amazing and I can’t really see a story that captivating being told any better on another platform (movie or book etc).

Posted by: Iz 8th July 2018, 10:37 AM

So I ended up buying a few things more than I intended in the Steam sale (always the way), but uh...

Slay The Spire and Rocket League are like instant crack, I had better be careful. On the former, I've always wanted a good card game after never getting to play enough Yu-Gi-Oh as a kid, and I've learned I really really like roguelikes after Isaac, so the combination is incredibly addictive. Rocket League, I know from Jacob playing it before I got it that it can be addictive but this is the first time in a long while I've found a multiplayer game I want to do repeat matches of.

Lulu is the white mage and Rikku is an Auron Tidus mix. I don't need anyone else.

Kimahri doesn't have a sphere grid path though? It's always frustrating because I have to decide to make him a worse Auron, a worse Lulu or a worse Yuna. I always thought that they intentionally scale Biran & Yenke's stats based on his just in case people get stuck at Gagazet because they never leveled him up on the way there laugh.gif

As for this thread, I recently played through Hollow Knight which is an excellent Metroidvania at a nice price too. Also lately been messing around with Cities: Skylines as a calm distraction, and to counter that, Steins;Gate 0 is a very depressive read so far. Good stuff.

Posted by: Queef of Skreech 10th July 2018, 10:30 AM

Kimhari has a spheregrid - it is about five nodes wide and includes Lancet. I need Lancet as I only use the three women, sometimes Tidus too. They are my main attackers, Rikku, weak strength plus weak everything really, learns all the support skills - Haste, Slow, Bribe, Power Break, goes up to Flare for them. She was in the area after I made a U-turn for Bribe, being at the Stolen Fayth, and so moved her up to Flare.

Yuna went through Kimari into LuLu for a little bit, then SWITCHED into Wakka's and round back through Drain into LuLu's and then back into her empty grid by way of the Thundaras. They are now just jumping in and out of each other's grids. Rikku, after going through Uaron, will switch to the rest of Tidus and go down to Quick Hit and Hasteaga.

Posted by: Dircadirca 10th July 2018, 03:32 PM

Haha true on Lancet I suppose. You could even argue it's twice as big on the Expert Sphere Grid biggrin.gif

A friend donated his unwanted copy of Pokemon Soul Silver to me a few weeks ago, so i've been playing through that. I'd wanted to play the remakes since they were announced, as Gen II was absolutely my favourite Generation.

I'm doing a "completionist" run and catching everything that becomes available to me as I progress. It can get a little tedious, but it's fine for a casual like myself.

Posted by: Queef of Skreech 21st July 2018, 11:28 AM

Is anyone playing Friday 13th??

Also I did that and now Yuna and Rikku have full spheregrids, bit LuLu has aboout half done, as it took ages to get 99 dark matters for a break damage weapon for her. Used the overdrive slot, as hers is awful game mechanics, for Sensor instead. Beaten the dark aeons up to Shiva/ farming Yojimbo. Switched back to Luck farming for now. This game was designed by sadists I am sure.like honestly, not a joke.

I'm currently playing South Park: The Fractured But Whole. I'm enjoying it a lot, the battle options are fairly basic, as was the original, but there is more choice in what can be done (with classes and movement available to the player).

The traditional South Park humour is definitely there, but it does seem a little bit more tame than The Stick of Truth (I've been playing for about 4-5 hours and I've not come across anything that would rival the anal probing sections yet)! laugh.gif

A solid RPG-style game at the minute, I'm looking forward to completing it and adding the shiny platinum trophy to my collection!!

Not sure what is next on my list though; Mafia 3 is free at the minute on PS Plus but I've got such a backlog of physical games that just keeps getting added to (I now have Final Fantasy XII, Assassin's Creed Origins and all the Kingdom Hearts HD remasters that are still in their cellophane wrappers!!!) that I've got no idea when I'll ever make a proper dent. drama.gif

All of my time is being taken up by Persona 5, EASILY the best non-Pokemon RPG I've ever played wub.gif It took me about 10 hours to really get into it but now I'm obsessed. Th balance of the day to day social stuff and the night thieving is great, they've both got enough of the gameplay so that you don't get fed up of one or the other too fast.

Ooh yes! I went into it last year and while it takes a while to get through all the exposition & tutorials at the start, once you dive into the core gameplay loop it's so addictive. biggrin.gif The combat system is really addictive too with trying to plan all out attacks for a safe win, but at the cost of precious SP. Make sure you keep checking back to the one differently coloured vending machine in the courtyard at Shujin Academy, SP restoring items can be hard to come by tongue.gif

Aah, I've heard only good things about Persona 5 and it's therefore one of those games that I wish wasn't a console exclusive.

I'm satisfying myself for RPGs with Tales Of Berseria, and uh... Lego Lord Of The Rings at the moment. One quite dark (as much as JRPGs get I guess), the other light-hearted.

Posted by: Liаm 15th January 2019, 07:37 AM

My only thing is I wish it wasn't so heteronotmative, I wanted to romance Ryuji laugh.gif Ik that's not really the point of the game though it's just an added little social bit, I find the females a bit more one dimensional but perhaps that's because I hang out with Ryuji or work too much and haven't unlocked more of them yet. I'm quite 50/50 on RPGs, but this has really grabbed me in a way not many games have before.

Managing SP was awful for the first dungeon but my friend who's really into the series did warn me that it tends to be like that near the start of Persona games, I'm not having any problems now, I make sure I have loads of the vending machine items and some coffeee just in case though!

It is actually harder, they unified the jumping physics between the three games, you fall quicker and it's a bit different to the originals in a way that makes it harder. That level was/is an absolute joke drama.gif

I think last time I played it, Seymour Flux & Braska's Final Aeon were the only two bosses I lost to. I used to just lazily cheese them by getting all Aeon Overdrives + Attack Reels ready before the fight but I wanted to fight them properly and they're quite a bit harder without that handicap, who'd have thought laugh.gif

I just got to Braska's Final Aeon last night! I grinded so much before it (so that I could get Lulu Holy and Ultima, and get Yuna some Black Magic) that I felt overlevelled for the first part and basically just did it with brute force of the two magic girls and Auron but then the second phase beat my ass laugh.gif

I finally bought a Nintendo Switch last year (I appreciate it's not necessarily the best console but tbh I kinda like playing platform games as opposed to serious immersive ones!) and I'm currently playing Captain Toad's Treasure thingy and quite enjoying it. It's essentially a puzzle game but it's keeping me hooked to it and, as always with Ninteno, I'm impressed by the number of different takes on the same idea that they have come up with.

I'm really thinking about getting a Switch. Been pointed out to me that it's a good complement for someone who focuses on PC otherwise to get the ability to play Nintendo games. Unfortunately it's only just officially launched in China. Maybe soon.

Posted by: dandy* 25th January 2020, 12:39 AM

I don't regret getting mine - I think it depends on what you want from a console. I love that I can transport this and basically play mindless games. It's not a playstation by any means but it has its value none the less.

Posted by: Liаm 25th January 2020, 04:52 PM

The game I'm playing is quite interesting, like a worm crawling on a green grass and a green grass when its leaves are weak and I land safely and I eat the grass so I am full again. roll out to sleep and wake up, then look for new grass and nibbles to eat like that until I get bigger and I eat the whole world of grass haha. The game sounds boring but not at all. The problem is that the player is boring. because every game, the player incarnates into the game, there is no game that turns into the player. So it's because we're bored or not
