Rangers have crashed out of the Europa League to Luxembourg's Progres Niederkorn who are ranked 440th by UEFA, their first win in UEFA competition.

Posted by: Dobbo 5th July 2017, 05:52 PM

So Celtic's loss to Lincoln Red Imps last season was only the worst result for a Scottish side for a solitary year, can always count on Rangers!

Posted by: Suedehead2 6th July 2017, 08:34 AM

In their 13 previous European matched Progres Niederkorn had only managed to score one goal. Oops laugh.gif

Posted by: Silas 6th July 2017, 08:39 AM

Am dying laughing. I know a few Rangers fans and all we're feeling fairly confident/gobby about their Euro chances and how they were back where they belong. It's utterly hilarious. They finished 4th in the Luxembourg league. A league that is somehow worse than the Scottish one!!

Posted by: Suedehead2 6th July 2017, 08:57 AM

Thankfully if Brighton only get into the final qualifying round for the 2018-19 Champions League they won't face a team from Luxembourg. Therefore, there is no potential fro a similar embarrassment.

Posted by: ML Hammer95 6th July 2017, 09:02 AM

Rangers... laugh.gif No words can express how hilarious this is.

My team in NI beat the team that ended up 2nd in Luxembourg in last seasons Europa League 2nd round - shows how shite rangers were there! Although I would argue some Irish sides are better than Scottish sides - Dundalk & Cork for two!

Posted by: LadyLea 18th July 2017, 12:24 AM

You get some entertaining games in the Luxembourgish league, but there is no denying that Rangers are pure embarrassment because of that result.

ITV4 will be showing Everton's second leg live tonight against Ružomberok.

That is on paper an easy group for Arsenal and one that they should be topping, they need to take this tournament seriously because it will probably be their best chance of getting Champions League football for next season and it's a bit of silverware also. Everton should qualify from their group but most likely in second place behind Lyon who I think will be one of the favourites to win the Europa League.

Posted by: Steve201 27th August 2017, 10:52 AM

Those groups aren't too bad in terms of quality of the teams tbf!

Posted by: Fogarty 4th September 2017, 02:38 PM

It should be an comfortable group for Arsenal on paper. Not long to it starts again.

Posted by: Mack. 14th September 2017, 06:47 PM

Arsenal v Cologne kick-off delayed by an hour due to crowd safety concerns.

Posted by: Flatcap 14th September 2017, 07:27 PM

I was wondering why it was on so late, thanks.

Posted by: Houdini 14th September 2017, 07:50 PM

The match will finish at about 11 PM UK time which will definitely play into Chelsea's hands for the weekend match. What an introduction to Europa League football for Arsenal! laugh.gif

Posted by: Mack. 15th September 2017, 07:53 AM

A very poor defeat for Everton against Atalanta. I think they could struggle especially with games against Lyon.

Posted by: Flatcap 15th September 2017, 03:11 PM

Strong words by Koeman afterwards. Perhaps he is seeking a reaction for the next fixture.

Everton's signings have created an unbalanced mess of a team!

I see the emirates stadium finally lost its corporate boredom during last nights Cologne game!

Posted by: Mack. 29th September 2017, 10:59 AM

An expected win for Arsenal last night for BATE.

But a disappointing draw for Everton thanks to a last-minute equaliser.

Posted by: HeadlessJockey 20th October 2017, 07:50 AM

Shame to see the scenes which happened during the mass brawl caused by Ashley Williams. Not what you want to see in football.

Posted by: Steve201 20th October 2017, 05:08 PM

Watched it today - was crazy scenes - Lyon players right to be annoyed!

Hilarious that only 2 yellows were shown!

Marseille's Patrice Evra was sent off for apparently kicking a Marseille supporter in the face before kick off against Vitoria in Portugal.

I'm an arsenal fan, but I think there are some difficult teams in this competition that could cause us problems. But like Man Utd last year it would be our way into the Champions League if we can win it!

Posted by: Steve201 22nd February 2018, 03:34 PM

It'll be a lot harder this year with the teams than last yr!

Posted by: Mack. 2nd March 2018, 08:58 PM

Europa League Last 16 Draw

Lazio v Dynamo Kiev
RB Leipzig v Zenit St Petersburg
Atletico Madrid v Lokomotiv Moscow
CSKA Moscow v Lyon
Marseille v Athletic Bilbao
Sporting Lisbon v Viktoria Plzen
Borussia Dortmund v Red Bull Salzburg
AC Milan v Arsenal

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 2nd March 2018, 09:01 PM

Ouch not a great draw for Arsenal, especially with how they've been performing of late.

Posted by: Mack. 8th March 2018, 12:59 PM

How do we see Arsenal doing against AC Milan tonight?

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 8th March 2018, 01:03 PM

Whilst a win would be nice, I can see them getting thrashed unfortunately sad.gif

Posted by: Dobbo 8th March 2018, 07:31 PM

Probably a narrow defeat or a draw. Amazing to think that even possibly 5 seasons ago this would have been a huge CL fixture now it's the last 16 of the EL!

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 9th March 2018, 03:55 PM

Glad to be proven wrong. Congrats Arsenal! biggrin.gif

Posted by: Mack. 9th March 2018, 10:46 PM

I would say that Atletico are clear favourites but then there is a group of teams like Arsenal, RB Leipzig and Dortmund who would all fancy their chances.

Posted by: Dobbo 11th March 2018, 10:39 AM

Keep forgetting Atletico are in this comp, there's some hella strong teams left in this season - some of the later games will probably be far more entertaining than those of the CL!

Posted by: Mack. 16th March 2018, 07:03 PM

Quarter Final Draw:

RB Leipzig v Marseille
Arsenal v CSKA Moscow
Atletico Madrid v Sporting Lisbon
Lazio v Red Bull Salzburg

Probably not the draw, Arsenal would want or their fans following tensions with the UK and Russia.

Posted by: Mack. 5th April 2018, 08:24 PM

And 4-1 already to Arsenal in the first leg against CSKA.

Posted by: Mack. 5th April 2018, 10:38 PM

Looking pretty much that Arsenal will go through to the semis can't see CSKA scoring three.

Posted by: Evil Houdini 5th April 2018, 11:13 PM

On paper it's looking like a Atletico Madrid vs Arsenal final is highly likely to happen. I can't see anything other than Atletico winning it, they are even stronger favourites than Man United were last season.

Posted by: Evil Houdini 26th April 2018, 04:58 PM

It should be an entertaining match between Atletico Madrid & Arsenal tonight. A draw would be a good result for Arsenal as long as they stop Atletico from scoring an away goal, I think it will be a 2-1 win for Atletico though.

Posted by: Evil Houdini 26th April 2018, 09:27 PM

That was a squandered opportunity for Arsenal after having more dominance than Atletico Madrid for most of the match not to mention Atletico have a player and their manager sent off early on. You would expect Atletico to finish Arsenal off in the home leg next week, another season in the Europa League beckons for Arsenal.

Posted by: Steve201 26th April 2018, 11:08 PM

What happened with the sendings off?

Posted by: Mack. 3rd May 2018, 08:04 PM

Not great to see the A-hole that is Diego Costa score the first goal for Atletico.

Posted by: Evil Houdini 3rd May 2018, 09:46 PM

A sad end for Arsene Wenger not getting the European final that he wanted. I imagine there will be a lot of rants from Arsenal fans tonight.

Posted by: Dobbo 3rd May 2018, 10:30 PM

Yeah that is a shame for him & the club but Atletico are a much better team so it isn't that much of a surprise result. Could be seeing 2 European trophies making their way to Madrid this year...

Posted by: Mack. 7th May 2018, 10:52 AM

I'd be surprised if Marseille beat Atletico in the final.

Posted by: Mack. 15th May 2018, 10:25 PM

The final will be live and free on Youtube tomorrow night in SD, HD and 4K UHD.

Posted by: Steve201 16th May 2018, 11:19 PM

Final score

Marseille 0 Athletico Madrid 3

Posted by: Mack. 17th May 2018, 10:13 AM

Seemed to be that Atletico just dominated the game although Marseille had a chance early on in the game.

Posted by: Steve201 17th May 2018, 10:36 AM

They took their early chance and Marseille didn't, once Payet came off that was it for them. Grizmann a class act as ever - his first ever European trophy and could be his last game for them.

Posted by: Steve201 17th May 2018, 10:37 AM

Torres last appearance too!
