Snow Patrol will release a new single in the next two weeks, their first since 2013. They will also perform it on Sounds Like Friday Night that week.

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 17th March 2018, 04:32 PM

YES!

With all the 90s/00s indie bands releasing songs recently I was speaking about how these hadn't had a new single for ages just a few weeks ago, great to see them back!

Posted by: Jade 17th March 2018, 04:33 PM

I am intrigued to see how a Snow Patrol comeback would fare in 2018. I hope they return with a 'Called Out In The Dark'-esque gem!

Posted by: gavindeejay 17th March 2018, 04:37 PM

Their album 'Wildness' is up for pre-order on iTunes. Hope their return will be good!

Posted by: Bjork 17th March 2018, 05:43 PM

strange they've put the album up to preorder without a grat or something

Posted by: Juan Carlos 🌴 17th March 2018, 06:55 PM

"Don't Give In" is the lead single.

Posted by: Chez Wombat 17th March 2018, 07:02 PM

Now here's a name I've not heard from in a while! I usually love their stuff so I hope this can be a good one.

Posted by: lewistgreen 18th March 2018, 10:42 PM

Premiering on Wednesday during Jo Whiley's show on Radio 2

Welcome back Snow Patrol, it has been a while.

The return should also see Chasing Cars make a chart return and add to its already very impressive chart run.

Posted by: gavindeejay 20th March 2018, 05:33 PM

I'm intrigued to see what they come back with. Hopefully it will be good

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 21st March 2018, 08:37 PM

The video has been released!

Posted by: Brett-Butler 21st March 2018, 08:46 PM

It's a very subtle lead single from Snow Patrol. They're obviously not chasing chart hits any longer if that's anything to go by.

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 21st March 2018, 09:03 PM

I quite like it, and there's certainly potential to grow. I think people who thought they could chart were being a little optimistic anyway - plenty of 90s/00s artists have come back recently and done nothing.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 21st March 2018, 09:16 PM

I really like this song so far, especially when it picks up towards the end. I'm looking forward to their SLFN performance in a few weeks.

Posted by: Chez Wombat 21st March 2018, 09:18 PM

Certainly a subtle choice of comeback for a band known for big anthems, but a very nice song nonetheless. Could possibly grow on me on future listens.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 21st March 2018, 09:28 PM

Hopefully their album gets to No. 1, I'm sure it will be at least in the top 3. Snow Patrol is currently trending in the UK on Twitter, so that's a good sign.

Posted by: Jonjo 21st March 2018, 09:38 PM

What a mess. It's like 3 different melodies all at once and it doesn't work. Well not for me at least! sad.gif

Before the comments, I was hoping for something big and powerful (ala Run, Chasing Cars, Take Back the City) hopefully there is something like those on the album, but the lead single is a no from me.

When I read you guys say it was "subtle" I was hoping more 'Set the Fire..' sorta subtle.

Posted by: Steve201 21st March 2018, 11:08 PM

I think it's great!

Posted by: Jade 21st March 2018, 11:36 PM

I'm enjoying this quite a lot on first listen, yay! Gary Lightbody's voice has definitely... matured though, he kinda reminds me of Bono on the chorus laugh.gif

Posted by: Bré 21st March 2018, 11:41 PM

Not gonna be getting them a hit single but this is a nice little lowkey comeback from them, I like ~

This is word for word what I was about to say laugh.gif When I first started I was like “who is singing this?” because of how different he sounds compared to ~10 years ago.

Posted by: gavindeejay 21st March 2018, 11:55 PM

It’ll definitely take a few more listens to click with me

Posted by: Midge 22nd March 2018, 02:49 AM

Not sure on this on first listen. I don't dislike it and think it'll grow. Not what I was expecting by any means anyway.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 22nd March 2018, 04:13 PM

https://www.instagram.com/p/BgoLHskHBGH/?

A video has been filmed for what I assume will be their next single, "A Youth Written in Fire".

Posted by: Midge 23rd March 2018, 02:07 AM

I'd imagine that'll be the 'impact' single... because "Don't Give In" is not a hit. Though I doubt anyone was expecting Snow Patrol to score a hit in 2018 anyway. Though! It's not beyond the realms of possibilities.

Posted by: Hayzayy 23rd March 2018, 08:25 AM

Nice little song, I quite like it wub.gif

Posted by: Bjork 27th March 2018, 10:18 AM

love this, amazing, really missed the band

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 4th April 2018, 11:59 PM

Its great to have them back, just seen in the papers about Garys drink and drugs battle and depression, i didnt know this was the main reason for the long break.

Really looking forward to their new album as i have loved all their albums so far.

Posted by: Midge 5th April 2018, 04:49 PM

This is growing on me a lot now smile.gif

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 5th April 2018, 06:38 PM

They are performing this on SLFN tomorrow, I can't wait!

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 8th April 2018, 09:00 PM

Hopefully the new album will be if the usual standard in that acstrong album,

I had hoped the new single would at least chart.

I enjoyed the performance and loving the song now. My mum was disappointed though (that was her first time hearing it) - she thought it was blah and she always liked Snow Patrol.

Posted by: Steve201 9th April 2018, 07:32 PM

Thought the performance was great on SLFN!

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 12th April 2018, 03:09 PM

Surprise new release! I love this, it sounds much more like the old Snow Patrol than Don't Give In (which I also love).

Posted by: Bjork 12th April 2018, 03:20 PM

Don't Give In ended up being such a grower, my #1 song right now

this is equally amazing on 1st listen, just realised how much I've missed Snow Patrol

the big gap between albums has done wonders for them, their last 2 albums (Million Suns, Fallen empires) were kinda meh except some random good song (New York, Call out in the Dark)

Posted by: Midge 14th April 2018, 03:03 PM

"Life On Earth" will need a few listens; it doesn't go well before "Don't Give In" in my opinion so it's odd they've gone for that ordering to kick off the album.

The Bilel & Yonanne Remix of "Don't Give In" puts a different spin on the song - should sound good in the sun smile.gif

Posted by: Bjork 2nd May 2018, 06:14 PM

another excellent track

Posted by: Midge 3rd May 2018, 08:03 AM

Nice track. Nothing has wowed me so far from the era, however I've enjoyed all 3 tracks.

Posted by: Bjork 3rd May 2018, 08:48 AM

really? Don't give in is their best song since chasing cars, amazing track, an 11/10

Posted by: Midge 3rd May 2018, 08:54 AM

I sincerely find that to be an exaggeration though of course taste is subjective; it probably is my favourite since that era though. Maybe 8 or 9/10 - on a par with "Crack The Shutters" and "Just Say Yes" since that album.

Posted by: Bjork 3rd May 2018, 10:04 AM

truly loving Don't give in, easily best song of 2018 so far, my #1 by miles right now

but sure taste is subjective, you mention crack the shutters, which is easily my least favourite SP single
I actually realised their last 11/10 song was New York, that was a masterpiece that sadly no one cared about

Posted by: Midge 3rd May 2018, 10:23 AM

"Crack The Shutters" is basically "Chasing Cars" meets "Chocolate" though tongue.gif

There is no such thing as 11/10, that always makes me feel awkward laugh.gif

"New York" is a nice song, I like how it builds.

A Snow Patrol rate could be in order.

Snow Patrol will be on Jool Holland tonight performing Chasing Cars and new song Empress.

On the extended edition on Sunday, they will also be performances of Heal Me and Life on Earth.

But that was infinitely better than the first single from that album! happy.gif

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 8th May 2018, 09:14 PM

Damn, another amazing song, this album is going to be amazing! biggrin.gif

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 16th May 2018, 07:27 AM

Love this song, great to see a video for it.

Posted by: pippa 16th May 2018, 08:54 PM

From the songs from this album i have heard, Snow Patrol look set to release a very strong album.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 25th May 2018, 05:16 PM

I'm loving this album!

I definitely think overall it will be one of my favourite albums of theirs.

Posted by: Bjork 25th May 2018, 06:19 PM

same, very strong, looks like they really needed a break

Posted by: Midge 25th May 2018, 09:39 PM

This is a decent album on first listen.

All of the promo tracks have grown on me considerably from the first time I heard them - following in the footsteps of how I felt about "Don't Give In". "What If This Is All The Love You Ever Get?" in particular - what a stunning song! Have completely fallen in love with it.

Posted by: celebspedia 28th May 2018, 07:12 AM

Hip Hop and Rap are still the best and I love Dancing one the same

Posted by: pippa 30th May 2018, 01:38 PM

The album is on track to get them their second number 1 album.

Posted by: danG 30th May 2018, 04:05 PM

not listening to the album, but I've heard the lead single 'Don't Give In' a few times on Radio X now and it's becoming a grower, shame they're not cool enough for Radio 1 / the singles chart anymore as it's quite a decent comeback.

Posted by: pippa 1st June 2018, 06:56 PM

The singles have deserved better than what they have achieved in terms of chart performance and sales but is is a strong album return from them. Disappointing to see The Greatest Showman soundtrack beat them to number 1 at the last minute due to their streaming sales.

Posted by: Dexton 3rd June 2018, 02:19 AM

I'm enjoying this album so far, I feel like my biggest issue with it is pacing. Basically the whole first 6 songs seem completely out of order which is strange.

Empress is my favourite so far, it hasn't taken 10+ listens to get into like Don't Give In has either. A Dark Switch is my least favourite as it's so poppy and again out of place

Posted by: Bjork 3rd June 2018, 07:42 AM

Don't Give In deserved better airplay, even R2 added it very very late and rather low

Posted by: Midge 3rd June 2018, 08:21 AM

"Empress" and "What If This Is All The Love You Ever Get?" are my 2 standouts. I haven't noticed the issue you're stating but I'll have a look out next time! I felt that way about George Ezra's "Wanted On Voyage" and I used to alter the tracklisting a bit to suit my needs. We can do that these days though which is great smile.gif

Posted by: pippa 4th June 2018, 04:13 PM

Life On Earth is good but it was the wrong song to open the album with. I think it was more suited to be the second last or last track on the album.
There is a superb run of songs from Dont Give In right through To What If This Is All The Love, this is the strongest section of the album.
The remaining songs are quality too but would rank lower than the aforementioned.

Posted by: Bjork 9th June 2018, 05:32 PM

this only got to #49 in the US :/ and they used to be huge there especially after Chasing cars

Posted by: Steve201 8th July 2018, 08:56 PM

Empress playlisted on radio 2!

Posted by: pippa 13th July 2018, 06:31 PM

Wonderful to see the album climbing again in the charts and returning to a top 20 position.

Posted by: pippa 18th July 2019, 06:17 PM

The renewed interest in Chasing Cars and Run to a much lesser level may guide some sales to Wildness.
Wildness is now selling at discount price too which helps.
It is likely it is the Greatest Hits Collection: Up To Now, that will pick up the sales if any album is to do so.

Posted by: Steve201 18th July 2019, 07:28 PM

Deserves to do a lot better, great album!

Posted by: Bjork 18th July 2019, 07:40 PM

one of the best albums of 2018, if not the best
Don't Give In and What If This is All the Love You Ever Get were both amazing and would have been top 10 hits back in the download/pre-streaming days

their 2019 tour has been cancelled definitely now... first the drummer injured his hand, then the guitar player had a serious neck problem so had to have surgery

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 19th July 2019, 01:23 AM

Hope they all recover soon.Agree about the album it's a great album and it was worth the long wait,I hope the wait isnt as long for the next album.

http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=223657

They are!

Not many details about it yet, but a new song was released a couple of weeks ago.

Posted by: Bjork 19th July 2019, 11:39 AM

Im also hoping for a new studio album sooner rather than later but with all the band "health" issues of late, Im not sure

but they're famous for working at a quick pace if they want, think they wrote most of Eyes Open in 1 night in a few hours

Posted by: pippa 19th July 2019, 01:33 PM

It is my understanding they have some work together for a new album.

Posted by: pippa 19th July 2019, 03:59 PM

It would be fitting to tie in the release with their 25th anniversary and create a promotional buzz around this landmark.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 20th July 2019, 03:03 PM

If it's a 25th anniversary release it could be an updated greatest hits with some new songs added.

Posted by: Bjork 20th July 2019, 03:21 PM

looks like the 25th anniversary project is called Reworked consisting of "primarily new recordings of some of Snow Patrol's older songs"

so a bit like Take That - Odyssey, looks like thats the way to go with Greatest hits

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 20th July 2019, 10:19 PM

In general i am not a fan of reworked songs, kylie, bon Jovi and take that are 3 artists I'm a fan of and they done the reworked versions albums and bar an odd song I didnt enjoy the albums and likely it will be the same with snow patrol.

Posted by: Bjork 21st July 2019, 07:28 AM

me neither but Im keeping an open mind
as Gary Lightbody sure is more talented than Gary Barlow biggrin.gif

Or you could keep your 'Eyes Open' tongue.gif

Posted by: pippa 5th August 2019, 06:21 PM

I feel both Gary's are as talented as each other.
They have very different styles but both are not short on talent as neither would have a 25 years career otherwise.
