Hello there, and welcome to results of the 35th BuzzJack Song Contest, brought jointly two you by the island nations of Utopia and the People's Republic of Jester.

We'd like to thank Herzebania for all of their hard work so far, and we hope you enjoy the show. The first results will be presented by me at around 7:30 and I shall be joined by my co-host Jester around half an hour later. Good luck everyone taking part!

For those who are familiar with unknown pleasures it's perhaps surprising that doing everything by the scoreboards there actually seems to be quite a lot easier than doing everything manually.

Hosting BJSC is really something else. The prep takes an insane amount of time and that's before even considering collating the MP3 packs, making recap videos, opening all of the threads, doing semi-final results if there are semis etc...

I should point out the big gap there was between Dead On The Dancefloor and everything else for me. Definitely the best discovery I've made in this contest for a good few months, despite the fantastic quality last month!

At the half way stage Ashton are the first country to reach 100 points but there are no changes at the top, with the highest placed mover being Torchwood climbing to 12th. Plenty of movement towards the bottom though as Dalisska and Numayania are pushed from the top 20, and Danaelanda score their first points routing Utopia to the bottom, not a great follow-up to last months runners-up! Back off to Matt in the People's Republic of Jester!

Oh and can I just say I really really really hate this whole build someone up to have them crash down thing. It's a right cunty thing to do, which is why I always present the votes in the order received with mine at the end so I don't manipulate it into building someone up and then knocking them down. I don't agree with it on principle here or in ESC [Having Sweden lead most of the way until the end was awful]

Why would people be "mauled" by the indie vote? If you fall from the top 10 after the indie vote then clearly you'd have ended up there regardless of the order in which the results were presented. And as Pavel said, there's not much indie to vote for!

Sweden DIDN'T lead all the way through though? I had money on it so I remember well, it went very breifly to the top for one or two votes. It was Italy a lot of the time in the early part IIRC. Azerbaijan did literally come out of nowhere. Given a choice between the two, I would have definitely gone with Sweden.

On the topic of voting order, if I ever had the chance to host the results, I'd either keep it in the same order as the votes had arrived, or keep all the countries who did well together at the top with the leader changing as much as possible. I still think 'Warpath' will finish top 5!

Unless the order received creates a runaway winner from the get go all the ups and downs can be just as interesting without building someone up and then knocking them down.

It's clearly from the moment you announce that you've fiddled with the running order that the initial leader isn't going to win in the end which I don't like at all because it may make it exciting for a couple of people but you really demotivate that one person you're knocking down.

I just don't like it, never have and I certainly don't like being on the receiving end of it.

On the voting order theme - I generate the random order and use it when announcing the results, as I did both of the times I hosted BJSC.

It was pretty much the Charice situation in BJSC VI, except the last 5 (?) 12's were genuinely random, contrary to Tyron's opinion.

I've always presented mine in votes received order but tacked mine on at the end just in case it's a close one and I can give myself the deciding vote to keep the suspense up. It may be potentially less exciting (although the Lykke Li/Elisabeth Carew battle wasn't over until the final two votes - which I presented in the same post) but it's a hell of a lot less prep work to do as you can do the prep for the thread as you go along - that's the main reason I do it this way to be honest

Last time I hosted I was at work on the day I was presenting the results until 6pm or something so I couldn't have possibly done any prep on that day.

Kylienips votes see change at the top of the leaderboard as Ashton's run without points continues and FSR Rontvia climb back into the top 2 for the first time in a while. Ojnoj are back in the top 5 but its the positions just behind that are becoming rather crowded, a 10 for my own entry sees it pull away from the two at the bottom.

On the topic of the voting order, I think I'd at least try to manipulate it in some way to make it tense (but without purposefully have the leader come crashing down, or the winner coming from nowhere), though I'd give up half-way through as arranging it in the order of votes received might be less effort.

Not keen on the current leader, but I guess it would be nice to see a different style of hosting

I didn't not vote for the 'indie block' songs because they were indie songs, it was because i didn't think most of them were that good. They weren't awful they were just 5-7/10 i.e. mediocre

If somebody sends a song that's good then it doesn't matter what genre it is, imo. If you were to send a good trance song then it would get points from me, and the same with an R&B song. If people don't give points to a song because of its genre then that's rather ridiculous.

Right, I feel I should justify my choice of voting order. Obviously me and Jester did not receive the votes, only the spreadsheet from Peter so could not do it in the order the countries voted. If we'd done it in the order on there FSR Rontvia would've gone into an early lead and bar about 3 votes in the middle, would never have lost it. I felt that was a bit boring so I manipulated the voting order to make it more exciting. I do it with Unknown Pleasures and it's never a problem.

I realised that if we put mine and Jester's votes as last we'd change the winner and with one vote to go there would be a three horse race, I decided Ojnoj should be the one that creeps up as people would think that would be the shock winner, as it had not been near the lead for the whole contest. I felt that as a song come from nowhere to win was done last time, it shouldn't be done again, so I let FSR Rontvia take an early lead before being overtaken with two different leaders, firstly Ashton and then UnoShake, baring in mind it would've been fairly difficult to let anyone lead these were the only realistic choices. Yeah, maybe the lead Ashton built up didn't need to be quite as big but oh well. I'm sure if it was anyone else they wouldn't have been as bothered.

Grats to Rontvia, UnoShake, Ojnoj and thx to all the hosts for hosting/organizing.

Pretty happy with the winning song since I gave it 5 points which doesn't happen too often.

VERY happy with my top 15 position after having been predicted to be in the bottom 5 by almost everybody.

Why, Semi Final 2 was harder and closer? Also 7th Bottom from Semi Final 2 had more points than 7th bottom from semi final 1

Thank you to all the countries that voted for Misty though! Finally I have a top 3 position and an entry I couldn't be more proud with. FSR Rontvia with another win with Chart Music was very deserved. Another fantastic entry. I really don't know how I'm gonna top Misty now...

Well! After Britt Love being built up so much I was a tad disappointed with 10th place, but still delighted to have my 4th top ten in 5 contests, which would have been inconcievable in the old days!! I can't help but chuckle at the irony of Britt Love flopping for me and Rich going on to win...

Thank you so so much to Mark and Matt for stepping in and hosting a fantastic, tense final show. I have no problem with the manipulation of the voting order, and Phil to be honest I'll say to you what I've always thought, and that is if you've had a lousy day don't take it online, especially if you take something like the Buzzjack Song Contest so seriously that there's a chance of it pissing you off even more. The voting order was clearly not done specifically to give one country a massive fall from grace, and if you look at the start, it was manipulated so that FSR Rontvia and FYR Vojvodina were miles ahead - the latter really came out of it worse than you did in the end. Obviously I can understand how this and the deliberate brutal kicking of Prince Saade during the Eurovision results would leave a bitter taste about the voting order being manipulated, so you can present the votes however you want now that you've won - oh no wait...you haven't!

Many congratulations to Rich who did win, with a song that crept up on me in the final week and that I hadn't been crazy about beforehand. That's twice that Herzebania has handed the title to FSR Rontvia! I'm glad you've decided to host the next one - onwards and upwards...it'll be the treble for Herzebania next month!!

Thanks to both countries for giving me 10s, highest points I've ever got So that leaves me in 25th place with 51 points... not bad for a first contest I guess. Also well done to Chart Music for winning, their song's good (I still wish Havana Brown won though, her song is better imo)

Wow 6th in the semi and then 1st in the final! Looks like it grew on a lot of people and/or the Semi 2 people loved it!

Although whereas in the Psycho case we both knew we wanted it and I ended up being the lucky one, I was completely oblivious to the fact that anybody else was after Chart Music Tirren tried to confirm everything it too.

Well, 14th! I'm actually quite pleased with that given I managed to beat Mike Neilsen and Ellen (which was, as ever, my back-up track which I handed over to Torchwood - I'm going to REALLY get shot in the foot with that one of these days!) and didn't finish too far off from Britt Love - which I'm REALLY shocked came 10th. Something that really deserved to happen with Eva Simons but definitely not here.

If only I'd been a bit quicker on the ball (well, within the five minutes that it was posted online ) I'd have been able to get Chart Music, but alas. 14th place with a track that was something like my seventh or eighth choice really isn't bad going, especially with two 12s!

Oh, and on 'voting manipulation' - to which I say - PUH-LEASE. Would you rather sit through the dullest set of results ever where one country is leading all the way just for the sake of 'purity'? As long as it isn't REALLY blatant where it's put through, as it was with the last contest (luckily as nobody had done it in YEARS it wasn't too obvious that Herzebania was going to win, but it's not the sort of thing that could be repeated for a while), I actively welcome it - people seem to think it always means building up someone massively and then throwing them down as an act nobody expected surges from the bottom five to win it with the last vote, but that's really only what it is when you do it unsubtly and without any thought. Voting results can still be manipulated to be exciting with the person in the lead still winning you know!

But as others have concluded I doubt this would've really been an issue had it not affected Phil - and I think it says it all that in his summary of what made it so terrible and blatant and obvious he still predicted the wrong winner

It wasn't "just for the sake of it," it's because I thought he'd been a bit of a c**t throughout the thread. Besides...low blow? "You didn't win this internet song competition, you just came 4th - haha!" If that is considered a low blow for anyone then I suggest not emotionally investing quite so much in the contest

Now Letland coming 7th on joint 93 points ménage? I did not see that coming! Thought "Safe and Sound" our score us a mid-table position at best!
Thanks for everyone who has voted for it, especially the 12 pointers which felt AMAZING!
Moreover, I did not see Capital Cities winning the Semi-Final, and they did! True shock, , if only I'd voted!!

Letland will officially withdraw for the next edition (sorry GD!), as I will be away, but we'll comeback in August with, hopefully, another crowd pleaser of a track!

I know right! And 3 of them so recently. It's nuts that until the One Big Final a top was a rarity and since I won I've missed it twice and once by a single point.




Aside from my aformentioned displeasure at the voting manipulation, the presentation was excellent. The co-hosting ran very smoothly everything was presented well and it was all very efficient. It was a great job, thank you for volunteering at the last minute to do so.

I'm a bit confused too, I broke the ties using the "most votes" method and sent the hosts a message with this info in it but it seems to have changed at some point between then and the final scoreboard being posted...
