Ireland 2020
Story Of My Life
Lesley Roy

Posted by: J▲hq Jan 30 2020, 12:25 PM

News on the artist & song is coming very soon, but this tweet from a theatre production group is getting people very excited..

Ireland won the last Dutch hosted contest - do they have their heads in the game this time?

I hope we get some news on this very soon,

“Story of my Life” by Lesley Roy is dropping in 30 minutes!

Posted by: Cal Mar 5 2020, 08:58 AM

Ok this isn’t the worst. It’s a tad dated but I think it could, with the right staging, be a bit of a bop.

Posted by: J▲hq Mar 5 2020, 09:05 AM

It is a bit “Et Cetera” and 2010 era Katy Perry kinda vibes so agree with a bit dated, but I love that kind of music so I’m well on board!

I really like it, it's very late 00s but that's an undeniable chorus.

I reckon an easy finalist for Ireland and a mid-table finish in the final, as this type of power pop isn't usually a recipe for a major Eurovision smash.

Posted by: Liаm Mar 5 2020, 11:48 AM

It's definitely dated but in the best way, I mean ofc 2010 Katy Perry kind of vibes is one of the best vibes you can pull off! I'm not sure it will do hugely well though as this kind of thing rarely does, but it's gonna be one of my faves of the year either way. The nostalgia will probably see it as a fan fave, I hope it works in the contest too, it will qualify anyway.

This is marginally better than shards of glass being spilt into my ears.

Posted by: LexC Mar 5 2020, 02:34 PM

I love this Dublin Pride 2013 theme song and I am UNASHAMED!

Posted by: diva thin muffin Mar 5 2020, 04:19 PM

This really does seem like an unreleased Part Of Me era Katy Perry song and I love it but yeah this ain't doing much in RTM sad.gif

Posted by: m Mar 5 2020, 04:25 PM

I'm kinda getting a bit into Eurovision again so I listened to this straight away a few times. My friend was at my place and he said he thought I was listening to P!nk haha. It's a very catchy song - I can't see myself being drawn back into it much but I guess most songs in ESC only really need to work in the moment (I forget about most of them later kink.gif). I do have a few that I've stuck with over the years tho.

My friend said something like it's generic but at least it's sort of good, rather than generic and crap which Ireland has often been tongue.gif

That’s a name I haven’t heard in a while!

It’s very 2009, I think this hits me a lot more because it just gives me 8th grade me feels. Definitely one of the best things Ireland has put out in a while.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Mar 5 2020, 11:13 PM

Im very divided on this, maybe after a few more listens i will like it more but it doeskin give me the feeling of we will do well this year.

Posted by: Voodoo Mar 6 2020, 09:17 PM

12 years later, I'm still bopping to I'm Gone, I'm Going. cool2.gif

Posted by: Colm Mar 7 2020, 09:46 AM

Ok - so there's room for improvement, to say the least. When she does belt it out, I think she does have the necessary power.

She doesn't sound physically fit to sing the song.

Posted by: Cal Mar 7 2020, 09:07 PM

I'm now loving this and I'm not even sorry.

Her LLS performance was PATCHY to say the least but she can hit the notes so it just needs lots of practice. Here's hoping the staging isn't a hot mess.

Posted by: ___∆___ Mar 7 2020, 09:13 PM

That live performance blink.gif Also it sounds like a 2002 song rejected by Avril Lavigne for a b side - not here for Ireland this year and I usually LOVE their entries.

Posted by: LexC Mar 7 2020, 09:18 PM

Well from what I remember of when Ireland used to have The Late Late Show as it's National Final, basically everything sounds bad on that show because the acoustics are terrible. So there's reason to believe that the actual final product in May will be a glow up from that.

Posted by: pippa Mar 10 2020, 11:20 AM

The song is very Katy Perry of 10 years.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Mar 14 2020, 02:31 AM

I think if she can brush up on performing better and gets great staging it will help alot. She is a big Eurovision fan and not just doing it for the sake of it so I hope she can at least qualify as it's the best she can hope for as I cant see it doing great. Etcetera is miles better than this and that didnt qualify (although I really think it should have as I still think its a great song).

Posted by: Cal Mar 14 2020, 09:44 AM

Et Cetera still bangs (and it's still played on nights out laugh.gif)but the staging was woeful, which is what I think stopped it from qualifying. If this has the right staging and she can pull off a great performance then I think it can do relatively well.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Mar 15 2020, 10:54 PM

Ya it's still a banger, the staging wasnt bad but could have been better, hopefully they can nail the staging this year.

Posted by: Colm May 8 2020, 11:39 AM

This is seriously growing on me. I had it 15-20 at one stage. Top 10 now, I think.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever May 12 2020, 02:52 PM

I think it would have qualified if eurovision had gone ahead.

Posted by: Colm May 12 2020, 09:57 PM

I really think it would have struggled to compete against the other songs in semi-1.

If it had qualified then someone from Australia, Ukraine or Israel (my borderline predictions) would have had to have lost their place. Maybe Ukraine might have been a shock non-qualifier.

The other 7 were dead certs - Norway, Russia, Sweden, Malta, Lithuania, Azerbaijan and Romania.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever May 12 2020, 11:25 PM

I dont see the appeal of the swedish song at all, I thought our song was better but I suppose we dont have to worry about qualification now cry.gif

Posted by: Colm May 13 2020, 05:31 AM

Oh, I enjoy Story of My Life more than I enjoy many of those songs. But qualifying was going to be difficult with the buzz surrounding all those other songs.

Posted by: Herbs May 13 2020, 06:09 AM

I had a hope that this would have qualified - best song from Ireland for a few years

I don't think Romania was a dead cert at all, I think it was the likely 'shock' non-qualifier of the semi. A lot of people (myself included) find the wording/pun of the title very off-putting and personally I didn't like the song before but the re-vamp made it even worse and I thought it was generally agreed that the re-vamp ruins it a bit.

I think Ireland would've struggled too, wouldn't have ruled them out (especially if there was some good staging planned as teased) but I don't think it was a great running order for them being sandwich between two fan faves in Lithuania and Russia unsure.gif But they could've taken the place of Australia which swiftly dropped down my rankings as more and more songs were confirmed - I don't think I've seen anyone have anything good to say about the clown performance in 'Australia Decides' so unless that was going to be massively overhauled..

Posted by: Vülker May 13 2020, 09:53 AM

Yeah I agree, Romania really felt like the shock DNQ last night. It literally had little to no impact on that running order and we were just scratching our heads about it. I don't see people voting for it at home.

Had massive "qualifier vibes" from Sweden, Australia, Lithuania, Russia, Malta, Azerbaijan, Norway, Israel and Ukraine as those really stood out among the rest.

On the grey area I had Ireland and Cyprus which the latter would lose out (but I still think their staging would've given them a lifeline). Romania would follow in 12th.

Last place wise, I thought Croatia was a little lost in the middle there however as there are a few former Yugoslav republics in this Semi-Final, last place would've probably been Belgium.

**looks at thread title**

Long story short, I agree that Ireland would've made it by a whisker.

Posted by: Colm May 13 2020, 11:48 AM

I really dislike the word-play in Romana's song but it has so many fans that I would have thought it was a cert. Perhaps I was wrong.

Australia would have improved their staging and I think it would have gone through. Maybe Ireland might have surprised. It might just have connected with a demographic of the viewers that had not been anticipated and managed to get enough votes.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever May 13 2020, 01:35 PM

The staging would have key and they had teased that some great staging was coming.

Posted by: Cameron May 13 2020, 10:13 PM

Ireland screamed 10th place in the semi last night, which I would not have been mad at!

Posted by: Colm May 14 2020, 12:10 AM

Having watched the home video Lesley did I now think there was no chance of qualifying. She seems not to be able to sing the song live.

I still love et cetera and still think it should have qualified.

Lesley has confirmed she has been asked back for next year by RTE

Posted by: Cameron Jun 10 2020, 09:40 PM

It gives her a year to work on her live vocals...

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Jun 11 2020, 06:47 PM

Interesting to see what style of song she will go for next time round.
