Whilst we're revisiting 00s dance in the chart forum, it's time we ranked the biggest dance hits of the 2000s.

The top 15 best-selling dance songs of each year in the UK have been selected, simply rank them from +15 (favourite) to +01 (least favourite) and the top four of each group will be put into a grand final.

2005
2005 was a bit of a transition period for dance music. Electro was starting to make its impact with the likes of 'Shot You Down' and 'I See Girls', as well as the big resurgence in popularity for 'Jacques Your Body' - originally released in 1999. Faithless' huge 90's hit 'Insomnia' was also brought back in the form of a remixed version by Faithless member Sister Bliss (credited as Blissy) and Armand van Helden. Likewise 'Owner Of A Lonely Heart' by Yes was remixed back into the charts by Max Graham, and Miami Sound Machine's 'Dr. Beat' was mashed with Mylo's 'Drop the Pressure' to create 'Doctor Pressure'. Then of course, the infamous 'sample battle' between Cabin Crew and Sunset Strippers who had dance hits sampling the same song - 'Waiting For A Star To Fall'. Both versions charted well and make this list. Bodyrockers had their debut and only hit with dance meets rock 'I Like The Way'. Inaya Day brought nu-disco track 'Nasty Girl' into the top ten and Tom Novy's disco influenced track 'Your Body' also followed. Crazy Frog had one of the biggest ever novelty dance hits with their 'Axel F' cover. DHT brought eurodance back to the top ten with 'Listen To Your Heart' which perhaps led the way for acts like Cascada. Bob Sinclar started his peak period for chart success with 'Love Generation'. Basement Jaxx were also still going, although 'Oh My Gosh' would be the last time they ever saw the UK top 20.

Audio Bullys feat. Nancy Sinatra - Shot You Down
Basement Jaxx - Oh My Gosh
Bob Sinclar feat. Gary Nesta Pine - Love Generation
Bodyrockers - I Like The Way
Cabin Crew - Star To Fall
Crazy Frog - Axel F
DHT feat. Edmee - Listen To Your Heart
Faithless - Insomnia 2005
Inaya Day - Nasty Girl
Les Rythmes Digitales - Jacques Your Body (Make Me Sweat)
Max Graham vs. Yes - Owner Of A Lonely Heart
Mylo vs. Miami Sound Machine - Doctor Pressure
Studio B - I See Girls
Sunset Strippers - Falling Stars
Tom Novy feat. Michael Marshall - Your Body

I have to agree to an extent, like I said this was just a transition year really, there weren't a whole lot of classic dance anthems being released (though at least we got tune of life 'Doctor Pressure')

I don't think so, certainly not compared to recently in the charts with the watered down poppy tropical house and future bass dominance.

Apart from this top 15 there was quite a bit of variety too in dance in 2005 in the top 40 in general, everything from drum and bass to the continuing funky house revival after Lola's Theme in 2004, the 80s remixes and the eurotrance hits in early 2005.

A lot of top 10 dance hits in early 2005 don't make this list because of low sales at the time before downloads counted for the chart in April (Strings of Life (Stronger on My Own), Object Of My Desire, Galvanise (even with low sales around in the charts I really thought this would still make the top 15 dance songs of the year ohmy.gif) Sunrise, Back To Basics, So Much Love To Give and Shine).

Love Generation, Falling Stars, Listen To Your Heart, I Like The Way and Galvanise are generally considered as well known dance classics I thought.

oh no! I forgot to include 'Galvanise'. It should've been here instead of Les Rhythmes Digitales.

What about Uniting Nations - Out Of Touch - that was your number 7 biggest selling dance track of 2005 on the one on the dance number 1s of the 00s thread post you did for 2005's summary, yet it doesn't appear here.....

Shall we just give it a free pass to the grand final then (as well as our four top ranked ones here). I am quite sure it would have got through anyway.

I wish Strings Of life (Stronger On My Own), Back To Basics and Love On My Mind would have made this list though.

Actually yeah I like all of those songs you've mentioned so I guess it was just the top sellers I mainly wasn't so fussed on!

And what's happening with Galvanise? If it's being included put it as my +14 & shift everything below it down.

Yeah I suppose 2005 was a little like 2016/17 in that the big dance hits had become lighter and poppier compared to precious years (especially as trance/Eurodance and the other harder dance genres that had dominated the past few years didn't feature much in 2005). Generally chart dance in 2005 was definitely not as poppy as that in 2016/17 so far though I would say (although up and coming hit this year Instruction is definitely much less poppy production wise).

The looped house trend of 2005 also returned in 2015 in an organ house style (Wish You Were Mine, The Party) but I didn't like it as much as I like the atmospheric fadeouts and more maximal, warmer sound of the mid 00s ones better.

I like how a lot of dance tunes making the charts in 2005 were retro influenced, and it was weird hearing Nasty Girl at the time as a new song because of its 70s/80s disco influence and also Doctor Pressure also confused me at the time as I didn't know it is a remix at first and thought why is this old song I had heard suddenly getting played a lot on music channels!

As you know I am a big fan of the retro sounding vocal house from 2005 such as Stronger On My Own, Feel The Vibe, Love On My Mind etc. and that trend would last into early 2006 before electro came along later in the year and rendered it redundant in the charts for a while (although there was a brief revival lower in the top 40 in 2008).
