Seeing as I created a blog page many years ago with a timeline, I thought I would post this thread to give everyone
a general overview of the group's achievements this decade and all of the milestones in Spiceworld during the 2010s. Here it goes... 2010 The fivesome kicked off the decade in style with a win at the BRITs on February 16th, 2010 for the 'Most Memorable Performance of 30 Years' for their iconic 1997 performance of 'Wannabe/Who Do You Think You Are'. Mel B and Geri attended the ceremony to collect the award. With the success of Blood Brothers, Melanie C received a variety of award nominations for her role as Mrs Johnstone, including the prestigious 'Laurence Olivier' and 'Evening Standard' Awards. 2011 Melanie C released her fifth studio album 'The Sea' in September, 2011, producing the singles 'Think About It' and 'Weak'. The album reached #45 in the UK and peaked in the Top 20 in Germany and Switzerland. Victoria won her first MAJOR fashion award of the decade at the 2011 British Fashion Awards for 'Designer Brand of the Year'. 2012 The Spice Girls reunited in London on June 26th, 2012 to launch the 'Viva Forever Musical' at the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel in London, alongside Producer, Judy Craymer and Writer, Jennifer Saunders On August 12th, 2012 the Spice Girls performed 'Wannabe/Spice Up Your Life' at the London Olympics Closing Ceremony in front of 80,000 people at the Olympic stadium. With a UK TV audience of 26 million and over a billion worldwide it was the group's biggest ever audience. Overtaking Usain Bolt's Twitter record, the Spice Girls 3 minute performance produced 116,000 tweets per minute, becoming the most tweeted moment of the entire Olympic games. In September 2012, Melanie C released her first covers album, 'Stages', which included the duet 'I Know Him So Well' with fellow Spice Girl, Emma. Melanie C and Emma both performed and promoted the single together and appeared on a number of television shows. On December 11th, 2012 the Spice Girls attended the World Premiere of the Viva Forever! Musical. In attendance was Dame Joan Collins, Cilla Black, Joanna Lumley, Dawn French and Sir Michael Caine to name a few. 2013 To further promote the musical, Mel B, Emma, Melanie C and Geri attended a Spice Girls inspire cocktail event at the Harvey Nichols department store in London. With her second Theatre role under her belt, Melanie C won 'Best Supporting Actress in a Musical' at the What's on Stage Awards for her role as Mary Magdalene in the 'Jesus Christ Superstar' Arena Tour. 2014 Melanie C kicked off the year with a sold out gig at Shepherd's Bush Empire in London for her special 40th birthday concert. 'Sporty's Forty' saw Melanie perform a number of her solo hits alongside Emma Bunton, Natalie Appleton and Chris Moyles. In 2014, Wannabe was named the ‘most catchiest song’ of 60 years in a music study, claiming that the song was the most recognisable pop song of all time. 2016 Melanie C released her seventh studio album 'Version of Me' in October, 2016. Peaking at #25 in the UK, it was Melanie's highest charting album since 2005's 'Beautiful Intentions'. The album also reached #1 in Brazil. 2017 Spiceworld: The Movie was re released in UK cinemas for just one night in 2017 to celebrate the movie's 20th Anniversary! The film entered the Top 20 UK Box Office charts the following week, taking over £90,000 in just one evening! 2018 Spice Girls announced their reunion in November, 2018 with a six-date Stadium tour of the UK and Ireland. Tickets for the 'Spice World 2019 UK Tour’ sold out in minutes, prompting the group to add additional dates. Spice Girls broke the Ticketmaster record with millions digitally queuing for tickets. The 2019 Spiceworld Tour became Ticketmaster’s busiest ever sale. 2019 In April, 2019 Emma released her fourth studio album 'My Happy Place', her first album release for 13 years. The album reached #11 on the UK album charts and produced the lead single 'Baby Please Don't Stop'. Emma also became the first solo Spice Girl to achieve 3 Top 20 albums on the UK charts. Spice Girls became the first ever girl group to sell out a headline concert at Dublin’s Croke Park Stadium performing to over 75,000 fans. The concert grossed over $8 million dollars. Spice Girls became the first ever girl group to achieve six chart entries simultaneously on the Irish charts. The 'Greatest Hits’, 'Spice’ and 'Spiceworld’ all re-entered the album charts; all reaching the Top 25, whilst 'Wannabe’, 'Spice Up Your Life’ and 'Stop’ all re-entered the Top 100 singles chart. The 2019 Spiceworld Tour grossed over $16.5 million dollars at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester, making it the venue’s highest grossing concert of the year and the venue’s 3rd highest grossing engagement of the decade, behind Take That and Ed Sheeran. In total, the Spice Girls performed to over 150,000 fans across 3 nights Spice Girls three sold out concerts at London’s Wembley Stadium was the highest grossing engagement of 2019 and the venue’s 4th highest grossing concert tour of all time! The 2019 Spiceworld Tour grossed $78.2 million dollars for its 13 sold-out stadium dates across the UK and Ireland. The tour became the highest grossing girl group tour of the year and the decade and is also the highest grossing girl group tour of the century so far. The Spice Girls won the 'Top Boxscore' Award at the Billboard Live Music Awards for their 3 sold out concerts at Wembley Stadium. In November, the Spice Girls debut single 'Wannabe’ was certified 3x Platinum by the BPI in the UK - making it the first ever single by a girl group to reach the certification. Total award wins this decade per member (not including nominations) Group - 2 (1 BRIT Award and 1 Billboard Live Music Award) Victoria - 9 (3 Glamour Awards, 2 British Fashion Awards, 2 Harper's Bazaar Awards, 1 Global Gift Gala Award, 1 People's Choice Award) Emma - 5 (3 TRIC Awards, 1 Global Gift Gala Award and 1 Radio Times Award) Melanie C - 2 (Radio Forth Award and What's on Stage Award) Geri - 1 (Attitude Awards) Mel B - 1 (Hello! Melanie B’s America’s got talent gigs and Brutally honest book should deffo be in there, as should Geri’s All together now and next clothing line, finally Emma’s kit n kin (which I know nothing about lol)

2012, 2018 and 2019 are my favourite years of the decade in terms of Spice Girls happenings That iconic Olympics performance for 2012 is still epic after all these years. Obviously the last two years with reunion stuff/tour has been special.
2016 was a bit of a low point... the 20th anniversary of Wannabe resulting in a very misjudged 3 piece moment, while Melanie C distanced herself... that was a frustrating time. |
