After multiple rumours over the past few months, ITV has confirmed that a new series of 'Cold Feet' will begin filming in February next year, 13 years after the original run ended.

Cold Feet - TV FLASHBACK

QUOTE(The Guardian)
ITV has confirmed that hit comedy Cold Feet will return next year with its original cast 13 years after it was cancelled.

The revival, which has been the subject of speculation for months, will see the return of original cast members James Nesbitt, Hermione Norris, John Thomson, Robert Bathurst and Fay Ripley.

Helen Baxendale, whose character Rachel was killed off in a lorry crash, has not been named in the cast – in 2011 Baxendale revealed she had been asked if she would somehow, in principle, return in a reboot of the show.

However, while it is thought unlikely that she will make a return to the show, ITV has left the door open saying that “additional castings will be announced in due course”.

“This feels like the right time to revisit these characters, as they tiptoe through the minefield of middle age,” said Mike Bullen, creator and writer of Cold Feet. “ They’re 50, but still feel 30, apart from on the morning after the night before, when they really feel their age. They’ve still got lots of life to look forward to, though they’re not necessarily the years one looks forward to.”

Shooting of the new eight-part series of Cold Feet, one of ITV’s biggest shows of the 1990s at times described as the UK’s answer to Friends or Thirtysomething, will begin in Manchester in February.

There has been speculation that it will air in the prime 9pm Sunday night slot as a ratings booster now that Downton Abbey has finished.

“We’re delighted to be re-visiting Cold Feet for a new generation,” said Steve November, ITV’s director of drama. “Like any reunion we’ll be looking forward to working with Mike Bullen on his wonderfully heartfelt and funny scripts and learning how the characters’ lives have changed over the years.”

The new series will be produced by Rebecca Ferguson and directed by Terry McDonough, who has credits including Better Call Saul, Breaking Bad and The Street. It will be made by production company Big Talk.

Cold Feet ran for a pilot and five series between 1997 and 2003 with the final episode attracting 10.7 million viewers.

This returns tonight on ITV at 9pm! It sees Adam returning from working abroad with some big news and shifts the focus to the characters now being middle-aged, with their children all of the age where they are becoming more independent.

There's been a lot of media hype around the series returning and it was a monster hit in its original run but can the revival replicate the charm in the public's eye?

I've never seen any of the original episodes but I thought I'd tune in last night out of curiosity and I quite enjoyed it! Will definitely keep going with the series.

I was a fan of the original version so I was a bit nervous about the revamp. Thankfully, it was pretty good. The writers had the good sense not to try and make the characters exactly the same as they were when we last saw them. After all, real people aren't exactly the same in their late forties as they were in their mid-thirties. That meant that they were still recognisably the same people, but people whose life experiences had changed them.

I'm toying with giving it a go. While I loved the pilot and the first two series of Cold Feet, it went massively downhill from Series three onwards.

I had absolutely no idea that Cel Spellman, who appears in this, was Harry Fisher in Waterloo Road but it seems to obvious now I know!! laugh.gif Seeing how much he has grown up in like 5 years makes me even feel old!

It has been renewed for another series!

The show hasn't been as successful in the ratings as I had expected but it has performed very well for an ITV drama, especially with it airing on Mondays!

It may not be attracting as many viewers as ITV hoped, but it has done well with the critics and gets a high satisfaction rating from people who do watch it. Therefore, I'm not surprised it has been commissioned for another series. I would guess that one problem with any future renewals would be the availability of the cast as all the leading characters are played by busy actors.

I think we can assume that the writers hadn't anticipated doing another series. The last episode certainly had an air of finality about it.

Great first episode tonight. I still need to catch up on the other series (started the boxset last year, got as far as first two episodes then real life intervened). Love Jenny and Karen, they're so funny biggrin.gif

The first few minutes was dreadful. Thankfully, it improved from there.

It's certainly worth watching the original series. They are from a time when comedy drama was ITV's biggest strength.

Got to say tonight's episode was the best of this series so far. I won't give away the ending for anyone who may have missed it but suffice to say I sobbed my eyes out. Full credit to Cel Spellman playing Adam's son Matt as well. He's a fine young actor.

Series 8 started tonight and continues next Monday at 9pm. An absolute gift of an episode tonight. Karen continues to be one of the best things about this show.

Likewise Ramona who got married (albeit for five seconds) to a "count" (you'll see why that's funny when you watch it back).

Potentially life altering storyline for Jenny and Pete ahead in the coming weeks. So long as it doesn't end in another Rachel situation, I'm fine.
