Next single from Cheryl called "Let You", which was co-written with Nicola Roberts and will be released next month.

From https://www.telegraph.co.uk/women/life/cheryl-spend-ages-looking-right-man-turns-wrong-man/:

Her latest single, "Let You", is a result of conversations about men and relationship patterns she has had with her friends, and it's another team-up with Nicola Roberts, who has been a constant collaborator since Cheryl went solo.

I still think it will be the back end to coincide with BGT, unless I have missed something saying early May.

Also here is a snippet from a few months ago, obviously still in its early stages.

She needs to stop with he Cheryl Cole the drama... it doesn’t help her sales anymore.
Ps she spent ages looking for the right man? She wasn’t divorced 5 mins (after a rushed marriage) before she started dating and got pregnant with Liam...

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 16th April 2019, 09:33 AM

I think she's very much over, to be honest.

Posted by: Wall 16th April 2019, 09:59 AM

'Love made me like this' went to #1 on iTunes though and if it had received better spotify support from the start it could have been a reasonable sized hit! If the song is good quality it could get her another top 15 hit especially if it's BGT.

Posted by: Blond 2.0 21st April 2019, 11:17 PM

Nicola is so talented looking forward to this

Posted by: Dmdr 28th April 2019, 10:32 AM

Posted by: Dmdr 28th April 2019, 10:01 PM

So according to Genius this is coming May 31st, but apparently anyone can edit that?

But that would tie in with BGT, the Final is on the 1st of June and they obviously have live shows the full week leading up to that, so it would work.

Posted by: Dmdr 30th April 2019, 10:07 AM

According to someone on PJ.

Just to be known as plain Cheryl, if this isn't successful for her, I would think that her time for getting chart hits are over.

She's never going to have another hit again at this point.

I’m ready for this.

Cheryl’s my favourite UK popstar in all honesty.

Hope she comes back with a complete banger.

At least this time around the big performance is in the debut week so it should hopefully peak higher than Love Made Me Do It.

Also guessing video will come out at the same time.

Can't wait to hear it .

She hasn't been announced as a guest on BGT, really shocked she isn't doing it.

Maybe they are keeping it a secret, but I don't know why they would.

The few people on other forums who seem to have heard it say its a bop, not seen any criticisms yet. So fingers crossed she delivers.

Sounds kinda flat...

Posted by: Dmdr 29th May 2019, 02:17 PM

Sounded a little flat to me but listened a few times and I actually think I will really like this, there is a slight 80's feel about it.

Posted by: Theonix 29th May 2019, 03:28 PM

I like the sound of that! It's an uptempo bop which is what she needs after Love Made Me Do It, however she's left it too late since then, whatever she releases sad.gif

Love the clip.. why didn’t she lead with this instead of ‘LMMDI’
Although, having said that, the media was all out to bring her down at the end of last year... so I don’t think it would have mattered what she lead with

Posted by: sajjadali 30th May 2019, 07:23 AM

I think she lead with that due to the whole Liam Payne thing which she was again thinking would help promote her single as she's done purposefully or unintentionally before - songs about her personal life have done well for her

Fight For This Love - Ashley Cole
Promise This - Malaria
Parachute - Derek Hough
Under The Sun - dancing with Tre
Crazy Stupid Love - Jean Fernendez Versini
Love Made me Do It - Liam Payne and all her other relationships

This is looking and sounding amazing....

Also out at midnight are:

Orchestral Version
Mighty Mouse Edit
Cahill Edit

Hate that artwork lol sad.gif but excited for the song!!

Posted by: Hayzayy 30th May 2019, 02:31 PM

The song is a bop!

Posted by: Cremey 30th May 2019, 02:49 PM

The cover would be fine without that unnecessary border.
The image itself is quite nice! It’d work much better textless

Posted by: Dmdr 30th May 2019, 03:05 PM

I am really liking this.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 30th May 2019, 03:18 PM

It looks like they've taken a random screengrab of the video and added the rest on Paint.

Posted by: Mack. 30th May 2019, 03:48 PM

The artwork is shocking.

But the snippet for this sounds all right.

Posted by: Jay ☆ 30th May 2019, 11:15 PM

Honestly don’t think the artwork is bad at all, in fact I really like it. An 80s aesthetic jumps out, border and all. The image of Cheryl is pretty striking too. It’s certainly a far more interesting artwork than Love Made Me Do It, which was also unflattering (quite frankly I’d say that Let You is one of her better artworks...)

Really liking the song yessss *.* This should have been her comeback last year. I feel the song would be even better if her vocals had more oomph to them. I assume the delivery is completely intentional but she sounds a bit bored/flat in parts. It’s a competent bop though and I hope she’ll do well!

Posted by: Calum 30th May 2019, 11:21 PM

This is miles better than Love Made Me Do It. Lord knows what she was thinking leading with that. I can't see it doing anything at all though unfortunately. sad.gif

Such a return to form.. although it feels very short.. I’m sure the remixes are going to be great though.

Posted by: ThePensmith 31st May 2019, 08:18 AM

As others have said, a return to form. I'm still doubtful if she's weathered the Dan Wootton ring led hate storm, but there's no disputing that this is her best single in some time.

Posted by: Jonjo 31st May 2019, 05:32 PM

I am really liking this atm! The production is SOOOO good. I def understand the critique Joe gives in regards to her vocals, but I feel like it's quite endearing in that way and I don't think it detracts or takes anything away from the song.

Posted by: Klaus 31st May 2019, 09:28 PM

The production is really great but there’s no real strong hook/melody for this to be a hit. The singing doesn’t really work well with the production.

You can tell she’s no longer with a major label, a strong pop hit/moment this is not.

I fully agree, the vocal is extremely weak on this. I do like the production and it is undoubtedly MUCH better than the hideous previous single.

Posted by: Dmdr 1st June 2019, 03:27 PM

The vocal probably feels jarring as they clearly didn't bother to re-record it to fit the new tempo of the song once they decided to beef it up.

I actually like the vocal delivery weirdly, but I realise I am in the minority.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 1st June 2019, 05:58 PM

Hasn't her vocal been "dead" in pretty much everything before though?

Posted by: Hayzayy 1st June 2019, 07:29 PM

Pretty obsessed with it!`
Happy with the overall reaction as it's mostly very positive - if only she could get a top10 hit with this.

Posted by: Juliano 2nd June 2019, 12:57 PM

I really like this, it's probably my 3rd favorite release of the week behind Katy and Tiesto/Jonas/Rita.

Posted by: Jade 2nd June 2019, 06:20 PM

I agree with what a lot of you guys are saying - the production is a real explosion but her unenthusiastic vocals alongside don't mix well, so it's not connecting properly overall. A step up from 'Love Made Me Do It' nevertheless.

Posted by: M477h3w 3rd June 2019, 09:13 AM

She should’ve returned with this song

Posted by: 365 3rd June 2019, 08:03 PM

This is going to be the last time she bothers with music isn't it?

Posted by: pippa 3rd June 2019, 09:25 PM

I would predict it will be her last studio album for a long time if ever.
A Greatest Hits package will come at some point.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 3rd June 2019, 09:46 PM

I don't really see an album happening tbh.

Posted by: 365 3rd June 2019, 09:50 PM

As if there will be an album.

At most I can see her appearing on some dance features like Louisa.

Posted by: pippa 4th June 2019, 03:58 PM

Dance features could be a good option for her.
I did think Nadine may have tried that route.
Cheryl is not top 40 today in the midweek chart information made available.

Posted by: Dmdr 4th June 2019, 07:02 PM

She was out doing some radio promo today, popped into Kiss to, I think, pre-record for their Breakfast show tomorrow and then pre-recorded something for Scott Mills's Show on Radio 1 tomorrow. While she was at Radio 1 she went on Grimmy's show for a quick chat a spin of the track.

Let You has also been added to a decent playlist, The Pop List with 650,000 listeners. It's track 5 so a good spot, hope it can help.

She also told The Sun she is going back to The Greatest Dancer next year.

This new interview with BBC News speaks volumes about how disillusioned she feels about the industry now (not to mention confirms what we all knew - that it would basically take an army of pigs flying over a frozen hell for a future Girls Aloud reunion of any description whatsoever): https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-48457642

If her career does end on this single, at least it's a relatively decent one it's ending on. But TBH I said on Friday I wonder if the backlash at the end of last year didn't hole her future prospects in music and sadly it looks like I'm about to be proved right. Be interesting to see if this artist forum survives the next clearout in a year's time as a result.

I am pretty sure she has already fallen out of the Top 40, she'll be lucky to stay Top 75 I think.

I think it will get a low top 70 entry on Friday. I think she should add the songs onto a greatest hits set and release while greatest hits still can do half ok as I think greatest hits releases are on the way out except for those who have huge catalogues to offer with older fan bases.

Dropped or alternatively finished her contract and they didn't want to re-sign her.

It was fairly obvious to them that the market was changing and that she was going to struggle on streaming. Considering she couldn't sell albums with #1 hits to her name, how would they do without hits?

Interestingly I read on Popjustice yesterday that she could have signed to Atlantic but ultimately choose not to.

I imagine with Cheryl any label wanting to sign her would want a cut of all of her earnings, and when basically all of your earnings come from outside of music then it probably is best to sign to a smaller label and keep your non-musical earnings to yourself.

Any sane label would demand any sort of a 360 deal to sign her as it's obvious that her music (which includes studio time, promotion, costs of video, etc etc) won't pay for itself. If 3 Beat gets no back end from anything other than her music, alternatively she funds a lot of it herself and they only pay part of the costs, they really have made a horrible deal as she's likely losing them money.

Still not on any huge or really crucial playlists but at least its moving higher on the bigger ones that it is on.

Spotify Update

New Music Friday - 720,000 followers - #8 (+8)
The Pop List - 650,000 followers - #5 (-)
Chart Hits UK - 220,000 followers - #10 (+22)
Future Hits - 60,000 followers - #4 (+11)

Correct me if I am wrong, I did ask on the Spotify thread but no one has responded yet, but doesn't it climbing on playlists indicate its at least popular in those playlists? If it does well in certain playlists it should find its way onto more playlists, at least that is how I have always thought Spotify worked.

I forget who it was that said it over on the Spice Girls forum, but how Cheryl is about new solo music now is how I imagine Geri Halliwell/Horner is about it (I say Geri because success wise, they're the closest in comparison). That's why Geri's only released two singles in recent years, and one of them didn't even come out here in the UK. Unless she could be guaranteed of a big number one with the smoke and fanfare that used to come with all of that back in 1999/2000, then as she sees it, it's not worth her time.

Cheryl is the same, but just swap out 1999 for 2009. She would do well after this to take a step back and consider what it is she really wants to do that will be satsifying for her personally and professionally. If you look at Geri now outside the Spice Girls reunion bubble at present, she co-hosts one of the most popular Saturday night shows on BBC One with Rob Beckett (All Together Now), she's still quite active with the United Nations in her ambassador role as far I'm aware, and she does other bits and pieces like her 90s documentary retrospective she did a couple of years ago and Celebrity Bake Off as well.

In Cheryl's case, it would be 'The Greatest Dancer' as she's clearly enjoyed that and got a buzz out of it (and rightly so, because dance is where she's always been strongest as a performer) and it's back for another series next year. Focussing her energies into that and also her centre for her Trust in Newcastle seems to be the way forward I would think.

Well, she had a good run cry.gif I just hope she isn't deterred by this, and that she & the label are happy enough to release a few more singles without being too bothered by the peaks. I will believe that when I see it though.

It's funny to think that the "6 week promotional build up before release" method of releasing was "only" 5 years ago & that Cheryl was still such a chart force that she entered at #1 with every pre-album release single, across all four of her albums. Looking back, that was very impressive. So much has changed in 5 years.

This deserves a higher peak than LMMDI - it's such a bop.

I don't see a compilation happening but it would be fitting if she had a '10 year' celebration singles collection-esq album given it will be a decade since the release of FFTL!

She has more than enough hits to do a GH.

I know she keeps saying no... but I’m fully expecting a Girls Aloud reunion tour next year...

Posted by: pippa 11th June 2019, 01:39 PM

It would be great if the girls could sort out their differences and reunite.
Musically, it is the only the girls will have success going forward.
As they all attempted solo music careers shows they want to remain in the industy and this would be their best way forward.
I would greatly welcome both Girls Aloud and The Spice Girls reuniting and recording new studio albums.

The reason she had such single success was because of her huge promo slot on X Factor at the time when XF was having 8+ mil viewers a night. It was translating to sales.

With no dominant show like that any more and no promo of a comparable level she simply doesn't have the platform. She should've tried to get some deal with Love Island or something.

I think it’s a combination of things. I agree that The X Factor was a big reason of course, but there were other things going in her favour. Even though she’d been in the business for 7 years, she was new as a solo artist & seemed fresh. She was young (26). The music industry was in a totally different place (6 week build up of radio, promotion & preorders). I think it’s fair to say Fight for This Love as a video, song & her visuals just really worked & connected with the public!

Sometimes it doesn’t work. X Factor was still a big deal in the ratings when Tulisa was a judge, but her album didn’t work out for her!

X Factor really helped Cheryl achieve some of her number 1 singles.
It wasnt the only factor in her success but it played an important part.

Not massively into the music video, but I'm absolutely LOVING the song. I actually don't mind her voice in this!

The best part for me in the instrumental is when she says "when am I gonna get mine?" and the beat gets louder/more echoed piano style than before, I'm not sure what it is but there is something about it that catches my ear every time I hear it.

Definitely one of her best in my opinion. happy.gif

Tulisa had the embarassment of her sextape working against her lmao

I feel like Tulisa never had Cheryl's accessible charm and that worked against her. Of course also she hit X Factor when it was starting its decline and seemed like a suspiciously similar substitute for her which never works out well.

Gives me "3 Words" vibes, which is a plus

Posted by: Spiceboy 16th June 2019, 12:46 PM

It's unfair to put all the credit onto X-Factor. Cheryl managed a moderately big hit as a feature with Will-I-Am on Heartbreaker before she started X-Factor. She also went solo at the perfect moment with Girls Aloud being the biggest they had ever been. I think Cheryl took a lot of the success Girls Aloud would have gone on to achieve if they had continued over Cheryl's solo music.

Yes X-Factor certainly helped, and I'm not so sure whether she would have achieved the million selling #1 single and million selling #1 album without it, however a lot of other factors (FFTL song, the Ashley cheating drama, the fresh solo star coming off the back of massive girl group - think initial Spice success - etc) would have ensured she had a successful first era without X-Factor in my opinion.

Omg we slept on Let You's first birthday just like the charts did when it was released.

This song deserved so much more. I hope we get a performance including choreo one day!

Posted by: JayYou'llBeThere 3rd June 2020, 02:13 PM

I honestly think it would have been a bigger seller than Crazy Stupid Love or I Don’t Care if it had come out in 2014 ohmy.gif Such an underrated song. sad.gif

Posted by: JosephStyles 3rd June 2020, 02:18 PM

Agreed - it's a great track and deserved so much more sad.gif

Posted by: Chemistry 3rd June 2020, 02:20 PM

Both this and Love Made Me Do deserved so much more love. I wonder when, or maybe if, she will release new music because we know she has recorded a lot more songs.

Posted by: Lukuzz 3rd June 2020, 03:17 PM

One of the best songs of 2019 such a shame

Posted by: Andrew. 3rd June 2020, 03:45 PM

I strongly feel this could've been the opposite of LMMDI and turned into a cute lil hit if she put it out in November 2018, as a package it's just leagues and bounds above that. Justice for Let You sad.gif

Posted by: Jordan Lee 3rd June 2020, 04:33 PM

Meh it’s an ok song but her last two solo singles are definitely her weakest two singles for me!

But this was better than Love Made Me Do It.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 3rd June 2020, 04:52 PM

It's really saddening that it's SO much better than many of the songs she actually had hits with. sad.gif She never stood a chance at this point though.

I'd be surprised if we hear from her again music-wise.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 3rd June 2020, 05:58 PM

hard to believe this was a year ago, the album if there was one must be shelved as 2 singles in and a year later nothing. maybe a hits album album and include the 2 singles on that could be her best option and it might her get another top 40 album.

Posted by: Monzo 7th June 2020, 08:17 AM

I still like this song, but Cheryl won't have another hit (unless she's in a mayor duet). Those kids who grew up with her music now listen to artists the same age as them and those fans who are Cheryl's age now got other priorities in life than checking out if Cheryl releases just a single song once a year.

Posted by: Jordan Lee 7th June 2020, 09:49 AM

I think it’s more Cheryl herself doesn’t see her career as a priority right now.

You could argue when her career was successful her personal life.... well wasn’t yet now it seems it’s the other way around.

I don’t think she’ll ever fully quit music and never sing or release anything ever again but I think she kind of knows she had success with music and the charts when the charts were very different so she just ended up being one of those artists who didn’t really transition into the streaming era.

Now Cheryls a mam too I think that’s her main goal set. In her autobiography she always said she felt she was put on earth to become a mother. I do hope we get some new music from her though as I love the woman. I still think albums wise she could score a top ten album again in week one but if she wanted success she’d ever have to go down the features route for a while or do real extensive promo!

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 8th June 2020, 04:11 PM

I think with a lot of promo and bundles she could get a top 10 album but would fall fast. I think she should do the greatest hits release and promote a brand new single to push the album and she might get an album top 10 and a month or so in the chart.
