Well, well Buzzjack we are now down to our final 5, after months of voting these are the chosen few left and what crackers they are and it also means that we are not far from the end. But for now, finishing in 6th place is "101 Dalmatians" which received by far the most amount of votes with 10 and it is also the last of the silver age of Disney classics, as we now left with one golden age and 4 from the renaissance era. Released in 1961 as the 17th Disney animated feature and adapted from the 1956 novel of the same name by Dodie Smith. The movie was a success upon release grossing over $22 Million upon it's original release, pulling the studio out of crisis after "Sleeping Beauty" flopped and in it's lifetime has now grossed over $215 Million due to re-releases. In 1996 a live action remake was released with Glenn Close as the iconic Cruella De Vil and became a massive success again grossing over $314 Million worldwide and even led to a sequel titled "102 Dalmatians" in 2000 which wasn't received as well but still became a hit with $183 Million worldwide.
As for the others, there was a 3 way tie with 4 votes between "Beauty and the Beast". "The Little Mermaid" and "Aladdin", while "Snow White" managed 3 votes and finally "The Lion King" got 2 votes. 06th 101 Dalmatians = 10 Votes I honestly never expected this to finish this high, but actually glad it did. A really great movie and looking at it's sketched style of animation, which really works well for this, as well as the attention to detail, especially with all the dots on each dog, which must have been a frustrating task, but pulled off beautifully. Of course the real star of this is none other than Cruella De Vil, which the name alone is quite clever, and the character herself is wonderfully over top in design and just brilliant. Her motives may be totally insane, but she has so much physical humour that the balance is handled perfectly. The movie is packed full of likeable and wonderful other characters such as Pongo and Perdy, as well as the human characters John and Anita. With so many touching and heartfelt moments, such as Perdy giving birth and the dogs trying to escape through the snow, which does add realism to the situation. Even the 1996 remake was very decent, with Glenn Close giving an astounding over the top performance as Cruella, and breathing new life into her and making her even more iconic in pop culture, was just amazing. The original movie on the whole has definitely earned it's place through the years, as a Disney classic. Right then just 5 left now, same rules apply just vote for your least fave by the next round which will be on February 3rd. I went for Snow White too. We then have the perfect top 4.
While I'm here, I may as well promo my Disney Family Fortunes which closes at midnight - for anyone who hasn't taken part yet. |
