Coming out of discussion from the Born This Way album thread, how do you rank the bonus tracks included on the deluxe version of the album?
Rank the following from favourite to least favourite:
Black Jesus + Amen Fashion
Fashion of His Love
The Queen
1. The Queen
2. Black Jesus + Amen Fashion
3. Fashion of His Love
for me! 'The Queen' is absolutely sublime. The final minute or so is euphoric and the lyrics are so touching - she CAN be the queen we need her to be and she IS continually. I feel such a connection to her everytime I hear the song! BJ/AF is great fun - a true walking/strutting song and then Fashion... I used to dislike and have as rock bottom on my ranking of the album. While it probably still is very low down on the album ranking, i've grown to find it quite cute! But it's definitely last here~
01. Black Jesus + Amen Fashion
02. The Queen
03. Fashion of His Love
'Black Jesus' was instant love for me it really does lend itself well to strutting with confident lyrics like "there's no way I could be stopped" and the electrifying production *.* 'The Queen' was a grower over the years but I've come to appreciate it a lot now! Those final couple of minutes are such a glorious turn. Then 'Fashion of His Love' is a distant last, it's cute but one of the least essential tracks on the album for sure.
1. Fashion of His Love
2. The Queen
3. Black Jesus + Amen Fashion
01. Black Jesus + Amen Fashion
02. The Queen
03. Fashion of His Love
Not one dud!
I’d rate them as
1. The Queen
2. Fashion Of His Love
3. Black Jesus Amen Fashion
They’re all great tracks and for me not what I’d have chosen to be “bonus tracks” from that album either!
I really do like them all but The Queen is the one for me! Underrated masterpiece. I keep thinking about how it may have been appreciated more had it been on a later album of hers reworked to fit the style more I could see it on Joanne tbh.
Not to say it’s not appreciated on Born This Way but like Born This Way has that many moments it often gets overlooked and being a bonus / deluxe track some people will be less familiar with it unfortunately
Jordan, that taste 'The Queen' does sound ahead of its time and like it could fit on other albums too, but at the same time, lyrically, it is perfect for the Born This Way album!
I know this may have been said a lot at the time but Fashion of His Love was definitely Whitney inspired wasn’t it?
Can’t hear it without hearing I Wanna Dance With Somebody. Definite resemblance in the chorus and parts of the song like the “I just can’t seem to forget you” almost emulates the opening instrumental of it too.
I seem to remember Gaga mentioning Whitney as one of the inspirations for both the title track and the album in general but I definitely hear it in Fashion of His Love.
Yes it was Whitney inspired, i've read that too! Or at least she definitely took inspiration from Whitney for the album and that song is the most obvious link! She has definitely confirmed 'Marry The Night' was too. She said this for MTN: "It's like Whitney, but imagine if Bruce Springsteen had a baby with Whitney Houston – that's what it is".
1. Black Jesus + Amen Fashion
2. Fashion of His Love
3. The Queen
They're all pretty decent - "Black Jesus" really came alive for me though after I saw her live. I very rarely listen to the other two but I do like them.
Tbh, I never listen to this album in standard form, it's always been the deluxe so I find it hard to separate the bonus tracks from the standard ones they are just as much part of the album as the others!
I'd say:
Black Jesus + Amen Fashion
The Queen
Fashion of His Love
They are all at least good though
1. Black Jesus + Amen Fashion
2. The Queen
3. Fashion of His Love
1. Black Jesus + Amen Fashion
2. Fashion of His Love
3. The Queen
The Queen is tragic.
1. Fashion of His Love
2. Black Jesus + Amen Fashion
3. The Queen
All great tho
01. Black Jesus + Amen Fashion
02. Fashion of His Love
03. The Queen
