The album is set for release in August.
Bon Iver has revealed his fourth studio album will be titled i,i (pronounced I comma I). In the lead up to its release, the folk singer-songwriter has dropped not one but two brand new music videos to get philosophical over.
The tracks, ‘Jelmore’ and ‘Faith’, were recorded at Sonic Ranch in West Texas and April Base in Wisconsin. i,i will feature 13 tracks all up, and is meant to act as the autumn-themed closer to the seasonal cycle started by For Emma, Forever Ago (winter), Bon Iver (spring) and 22, A Million (summer).
Fans were treated to previously released singles ‘Hey Ma’ and ‘U (Man Like) back in June

and let's not forget Hey Ma
personally best song of the year, very simple but very addictive melody
Looking forward to this!
And quick note because I'm a big fan Bon Iver are a band, not a he. Justin Vernon is the frontman.
Bit of a meaningless observation but taking the title of his second album as 'Bon Iver, Bon Iver' (seems to be a bit of confusion as to whether it's that or just 'Bon Iver'), this now makes it 4 out of 4 albums from him that have a comma in the title, this has to be going past being a coincidence and be on purpose for some reason by this point and a comma in the title of 'Hey, Ma' as well for good measure.
I know
but Justin is the core, no one cares about the others
for me Justin is Bon Iver
not sure what the others do, not sure now but in the beginning the songs were 100% Justin, it's his lyrics, his melodies, he wrote the songs in that cabin, plus his unique voice is also key to the songs
trackless seems pretty bizarre once again

the line is always thin when you have a solo singer-songwriter working with other musicians on a regular basis
like Ben Howard has always worked with the same people, they record with him, tour with him, collaborate with the songs too but he still releases them as Ben Howard
even if they are more of a band than Bon Ever for instance
I'm so f***ing excited
22, A Million was sensational.
Well in the press releases and stuff they are referred to as 'they' - so they're a band
Justin clearly feels like its a band but it's mostly his choice I reckon even if the contribution of the other band members is minimal
I disagree with their contributions being minimal, otherwise they wouldn't be there.
But it really doesn't matter
it's clearly not a Beatles/Queen scenario when all the band members write songs
Justin doers everything and then in a few songs he has other people, but what do they do? who knows, it's the drummer in few, so might be cos of that
but clearly the lyrics are Justin's 1000%
anyway
it's a pity looks like everyone's favourite lost track 89 is not gonna be on the new album
it's a bit (lot) like arguing about genderqueer people's choice to identify however they want aka who tf cares/it's no one's business
"Hey, Ma" really is quite special!
I love Hey ma
song of the year for me
I read this interview in which Justin explain he believes in community music
in artists meeting and collaborating
he's organised this People festival in Berlin a couple times which is like that
and he explains thats why he doesn't release hi stuff as Justin
he basically says he doesn't wanna tour solo
Hey Ma sounding lovely this weekend!
So... this album is essentially actually out today because they're dripfeeding the rest of the album as individual 'singles' (5 more tracks dropped already and they're coming out on the hour so a few more to come). A bit of a weird strategy but what suits them...!
They did skip uploading the 30 second opening track so I guess that'll be the only part of the album that's actually new come 30th August
Not sure how much of these album tracks I'll bother listening to ('Hey, Ma' is the only one of the previous 4 singles I really loved) but I've seen that 'iMi' was cowritten by James Blake so I'll probably at least check that one out.
That’s an interesting strategy, can’t wait to hear more! "Hey, Ma" is challenging "Late Night Feelings" for my song of the year so far.
listening now
like all his albums, it sure will take lots of listens to digest and assimilate the songs
very good NME review out already: https://www.nme.com/reviews/album/bon-iver-ii-album-review?fbclid=IwAR1nzVaOi-hX8q_nz8V1qa3coYhTdvmUacQ4DkyLDP5EOcyuVs9z43FBHAE
now there's 11 songs, not sure if thats all
whats pretty silly its cos of the spotify/occ Thursday problemo, those streams will be lost and end up in limbo
I don't know, do you? Can't read his mind, sure his label cares
I'm sure if his label cared, they wouldn't have released it like this.
Artists make so little money from album sales, it's all from touring and merch.
then let's stop following the charts
what I meant is that cos the occ never including Thu streams, these streams are lost and the album won't chart tomorrow, when it could have
The album has washed over me on both listens so far, not necessarily a bad thing I guess, was pretty good for chilling/packing for Ibiza. Felt the same about "22, A Million" and that grew massively and suddenly. "29 #Strafford APTS" and "8 (Circle)" I listen to regularly again lately. "Hey, Ma" is certainly the BIG standout, I absolutely love it.
The whole album has just been properly released on Spotify so I guess it was just brought forward a couple of weeks. I presume the physical release will still be on the 30th.
I see it's on iTunes too
but not sure if the physical CD & vinyl is out too, will have to check later
Listened yesterday but it didn't grab me much, I wasn't really paying attention though.
Going through it again just now and a few more are standing out - liking Holyfields,, Hey, Ma, Faith, Salem and in particular Naeem.
Salem & We are definitely in the first highlight wave for me.
But I was so happy and pleasantly surprised this came out today instead of 3 weeks later.
Great review
Couldnt agree more

Oh 'Naeem' is actually really great why wasn't this one of the earlier singles?
'iMi' is v good as well. Although a bit strange.
