I really think it has to be Amy's year. She has mega amazing chemistry with Christian and ende dup being nominated for the two films she has done with them.

Would love for Renee to win, she's overdue one (I don't think she has one does she?) and has never given a bad performance. Plus there will be loads of buzz for this,
especially with the recent news of Lorna Luft.

Yeah surely it's her year! I can see Amy winning either of the actress categories (idk if she's going lead or supporting yet) so hopefully this is finally her year 😍

Renee won for cold mountain about 15 years ago though she hasn't been nominated since then! So agree with you and I'm really hyped for her performance in Judy *.*

This season is already rly fascinating *.*

BlackKKKlansman is coming out in August so it'll be interesting to see how that goes as the August Oscar contenders either break out big time (e.g. The Help) or disappear (e.g. Detroit)
The Favourite is coming out in November Thanksgiving weekend which is a fab release date and I'd love it all of Weisz/Stone/Colman can all get in *.*
Mary Queen Of Scots is also out of September and released later in the year which is a lot better for the film with award prospects as well
Boy Erased & Beautiful Boy I really don't know what to do with atm, both have got really positive reactions from Cinemacon but test screenings are supposedly mixed, I'd guess there's still time to fix them though.
A Star Is Born is gaining SO much buzz atm, lowkey can see Gaga winning the Oscar ohmy.gif

I'm gonna update my predictions in a min x

I hope all three ladies gets nom and at least Olivia a win.

Not surprising. Goodbye Green Book.

Only A Star Is Born and BlacKkKlansman have been nominated for BAFTA, PGA, DGA, WGA and SAG so I would say it's between them and Roma now for Best Picture.

Yep I'm so glad. Though tbh the backlash was not for the reasons that I thought it was gonna end up getting backlash laugh.gif Also a big story from LA Times about the film is supposedly dropping v. soon! Hopefully it's not too late in voting for it to be snubbed

Yep those are my top 3 in picture now 100%. Atm Roma is the frontrunner, ASIB could take back if it slays SAG/Bafta's and I see BlacKkKlansman as the wildcard that can really challenge for the win if it takes home SAG ensemble. I can't see what else will win picture atm.

My BP predicted nominees:
1) Roma
2) A Star Is Born
3) BlacKkKlansman

4) The Favourite
5) Bohemian Rhapsody ( sad.gif )

6) Black Panther (this has had a horrendous week but I think it'll still get in)
7) Vice
8) Green Book (I feel it may be a tiny bit too late for it to fall out ugh)

Idk why I have a hunch Beale Street is gonna get Carol'd sad.gif It's just not doing well at basically any of the guilds so far. Also I think we could end up with a completely out of nowhere wtf BP nom this year, maybe Cold War? or Leave No Trace? Maybe we'll get a populist hit like A Quiet Place or Crazy Rich Asians sneaking in? I def think we'll get one of these in if GB rly does get snubbed cos I can't see there only being 7 nominations.

I feel Mary Poppins/the two A24 films are dead in this category now

This seems like such a poor year for Academy movies. Literally NONE excite me at all! Last year we had Three Billboard, Shape Of Water, Call Me By Your Name, Lady Bird ... the only one that excites me is A Star Is Born and I saw that ages ago! laugh.gif sad.gif.

I thought the same. Period dramas are not my bag.

But this is wickedly funny in places. And it's enjoyable purely to watch those 3 ladies get their teeth into these pretty vile characters. I was surprised how much I liked it, it's honestly brilliant.

I'm really hoping for BlacKkKlansman to do well. That's my fave out of the ones I've seen so far.

I also loved Widows but I can't see it doing anything apart from Viola Davis.

Posted by: UltraReputation 20th January 2019, 11:53 AM

Omfg green book won PGA 😐😐😐😐 great so that's completely back in the race now (21/29 of the PGA winners have won best pic). Errr imagine if BoRhap wins SAG ensemble as well, a race between those two would be tragic.

And talking of tragic, ASIB's awards run in terms of wins has kinda been nothing short of horrendous 😭 Idk what happened, it's won none of the main important awards at the bigger guilds whereas even fading films like American hustle still won a few. I think it's BP win chances are probs dead now so c'mon Roma to defeat the evils above x

A Star Is Born will get a good number of noms but I do think it'll only win for Shallow. As much as I'd love for them to win the acting awards, it's not happening. Actress is a straight up tussle between Olivia and Glenn.

I'm more curious to see if BoRhap gets completely snubbed or not. If it gets nominated for Best Picture I'll lose my damn mind. It doesn't deserve any nomination other than possibly sound mixing for the performances and maybe an actor nod for Rami. Even then, I don't think it should win either of them.

Posted by: Addy K!ng 22nd January 2019, 02:15 PM

I just saw last night Green Book and I must admit that it is really a good one. I totally can see now why it's doing so well with awards!!!

And I am all up for Favorite and Bohemian Rhapsody to slay wub.gif

I can't believe that Bohemian Rhapsody got a Best Picture nomination. Good lord.

Bradley getting snubbed for Best Director is a shock too. However that's somewhat offset by Sam Elliott getting a nom for Support Actor. That's well deserved.

I KNEW they'd nominate Black Panther for Best Picture, especially when they tried to make up a category to give it an award kink.gif Whatever the reason, it's always good see something outside of the usual drama and this does make up for The Dark Knight's snub at least.

Surprised Bradley Cooper was snubbed for Director, otherwise, I don't think there was any big surprises. Have seen one Best Picture nominee thus far, will be hoping to see them all before the ceremony as always!

Posted by: Brett-Butler 22nd January 2019, 10:06 PM

Absolutely delighted to see "Mirai" nominated for Best Animated Feature. Mamoru Hosoda has been one of the best anime directors of the past 10 years, so it's great to see him become the first non-Ghibli Japanese director to be nominated for that award.

I can’t bring myself to watch Buster Scruggs ahah, I feel like I’ll just be so dreadfully bored watching it. I would like to see AEG though, it’s nice seeing Dafoe get so much recognition in the last couple of years :’)
