THEIR BEST SONG EVER
Critical Reception
The song received positive reviews from music critics: Nick Levine from Digital Spy said "'Forever Is Over' finds them shifting away from glossy electropop and taking a few stiletto steps into pop rock territory," and further describing the song as having a "Big, beltalong chorus that hits its target, and that Una Healy shines on the guitary middle 8." The BBC Chart Blog elaborated on the single as being in the "Highest realms of the UK pop league up there with the Pixie Lotts and Girls Alouds of the world," further describing it as sounding "Slick" and "Big" with a "Mahoosive, dancealong, brilliant chorus." Musosguide reviewed "Forever Is Over" as a "Deliciously catchy tune that marks a welcome return to the electric guitar to a pop market that is saturated beyond recognition with electro-sounds." OK! Magazine labelled the song as "An infectious synth pop tune". Muumuse.com had the following to say: "Radio-friendly doesn't even begin to describe it - the chorus is simply massive." TheChemistryIsDead.com described "Forever Is Over" as "Rockier than their other stuff but it's very sleek and polished." WessexScene.co.uk reviewed the single as "A sophisticated more pop rock breakaway from the girls' previous pure pop style and has a more transatlantic feel to it" further saying that "It is vocally impressive."
Entertainment-focus.com reviewed the lead single as "A slow-building pop stormer and that all five girls sharing vocals adds a harder edge to their normally polished pop sound." Whilst Yahoo! Music's view of track included it having "Sultry verses and a full throttle chorus which suggests a new, more sophisticated direction to put them on par with their rivals."
Buzzjack Reception
Rather than posting individual quotes I'm just going to link you to this thread: http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=113454
It's good pop song with a rock edge. It's not my favourite, but I do not understand the hate at all.
I think Disco Love and Forever Is Over are best song based on quality. They're are no tuned vocals (or any obvious ones), production is really good, vocal arrangements are fair, they're catchy and they both are really distinctive. You can hate the song, you don't have to love it but you just can't deny it's quality. They don't deserve comments like "it's shit", they doesn't deserved that negative label.
It's kinda shet and annoying.
Sorry for the list but here goes
1. Wordshaker flopped because it was released after this, not Ego.
2. I'm sure it's the best selling lead single from an album after Missing You?
3. Personally I absolutely love this for many reasons. It drew me to the group even more and the song definitely helped me through a difficult time just before I came out as gay to my parents, especially the "and my heart's not gonna' break, forever is over and I'm no longer afraid". ICONIC.
4. The artwork is quite different as is the music video but I easily love both - it's good that some of their earlier videos had storyline's involving a bit of acting which I quite liked!
5. I think some of the hate towards this is predicated on the number two spot but I bet if it had been their first number one then everyone would be all over it!
6. Highlight of this track me is Vanessa but also, you'll all be surprised to know, Rochelle. Both absolutely amazing vocals and love their lyrics, especially Rochelle's verse as it sums up nicely a really short relationship I was in just before Christmas
2. 'Notorious' sold slightly more than 'Forever Is Over'.
But YASSS at Forever Is Over. Such an amazing song. Really UNDERRATED.
Vanessa and Una sounds PHENOMENAL, but Rochelle as well on her verse. I kinda wish she had an ad-lib or took a small part of the chorus because she can belt certain parts of that chorus really well. Frankie sounds great too but the acoustic version has shown she would have been better with Mollie's part.
Mollie sounds quite bad on the track, though. Well, maybe 'bad' is a tough word, but she's such a big non-event on that song whereas despite her vocals not being the strongest as well on other tracks, she always has a strong presence on the songs. This is not the case.
I don't think it's a garbage song but I personally don't like it. I still wouldn't like it even if it went to #1. I'd actually probably like it less as I find it to be undeserving of such an accomplishment. It's my third least favorite single of theirs, only ahead of Issues and Just Can't Get Enough.
Wow, FIO only managed 145,000 sales during its actual chart run? That's only 15,000 more than Disco Love! I don't see it ever selling the additional 55,000 needed to go Silver unfortunately
Forever Is Over is one of The Sats overall weakest singles and probably their weakest lead single too... and is 100% the reason behind the album not doing as well as the debut did in my opinion. Thank God Ego followed that's all I can say!!!
Missing You is a zillion times better than Forever Is Over, I think if they did ever turn time backwards, One Shot > Ego > Here Standing/or/Forever Is Over would have worked better.
Saying that, the campaign was saved by Missing You/Higher/Headlines! so in the end it was a happy ending... unlike Living For The Saturdays.
'Missing You' wishes it had 1/10 of the FIO melody because it got none.
Also, FIO left the top 100 with 145k yes, but pretty sure we had an update on it and it was around 180k?
KILL THIS SONG
KILL UV.
Yes, I agree! It's just that you said you couldn't imagine it selling the 55k left to go Silver, but it only needs about 10-17k to do so. Which isn't that far off or hard, in my opinion. Pretty sure it must be around 187-190k now. ( 'Forever Is Over' is basically THE early single they keep on singing during gigs and festivals ) However, it's true that given the current circumstances, I can't see them managing to sell the few k left... :/
The Paul O'Grady performance sticks in peoples minds.
It must be slightly iconic as it has over 100,000 views on youtube, the Disco Love performance at the same show obviously a few years later only has 5000 views.
^ It's funny this is considered their worst performance amongst the fanbase because, in my opinion, they've had so much worse than this, especially lately.
I mean what exactly is there on that performance that we didn't get in the recent performances? (The answer is probably live vocals? )
Seriously, all the girls sound good on their respective verse (except for Mollie, granted). Can you even say that for most of their performances?
I mean, yeah, the chorus is a bit of a mess because of the backing track, but if you think that sounds bad, you should give a listen to the chorus of 'Not Giving Up' live... Frankie sounds PHENOMENAL from 0:42-46. Sad she couldn't keep the same good vocals throughout the rest of the choruses.
That performance is fine! I agree with Hurricane. They actually sound pretty decent on it. Rochelle and Vanessa's height difference is annoying me though.
'Missing You' wishes it had 1/10 of the FIO melody because it got none.

So FIO has sold 186,000 at best if what Joe stated is true. It would take a miracle for it to go Silver. Holding onto hope for Notorious though!
Lets all just have playlists of Forever is Over and Notorious to get them those certifications
'Forever Is Over' has horrific sales for a song that done well airplay wise and had good enough promotion.
I was actually trying to find my favourite 'Forever Is Over' performance but it was impossible to find.
