I've done my best to try and think of as many boy bands as possible (including duos). This thread felt a lot more complicated to compile than the females thread because in some cases it's hard to define if an act is typically a "boy band" or not. I've steered clear of rock bands, although acts such as 5 Seconds of Summer seemed appropriate for this thread given that they can be quite pop leaning. It's very open to interpretation...
I welcome any suggestions for artists I may have overlooked, and if anybody spots any mistakes then please let me know and I'll correct them! |

Thanks for the amazing work you did on this thread Jay Thank you Maz! During my research I discovered that O-Town still don't have Silver certifications for 'Liquid Dreams' or 'All or Nothing'. The latter in particular seems well remembered, so it surprises me that it hasn't trickled over 200k yet. Their sales totals in 2001 were 140,240 and 122,060 respectively. I'm 99% certain that Hanson - Thinking of You is some kind of database glitch... It wasn't a particularly big hit in 1998 (chart run: 23-52-67-71-71-71-out-83-69-100). BPI have it as certifying Silver on 16.02.2018 and Gold on 24.12.2021. Yet on Spotify it only has 2,040,556 streams (worldwide) which is really low. By comparison the aforementioned 'All or Nothing' by O-Town has over 80 million streams on Spotify (again, worldwide figures). I checked Apple Music and Deezer and 'Thinking of You' isn't amongst Hanson's most popular songs. So that strikes me as being very curious. I was surprised by some of the Take That singles having lower certifications than I would have assumed (Relight My Fire only silver) but I suppose that's because of it being a pre-1994 release? Sales from 1994 onwards aren't added to the pre-1994 sales, are they? A curiosity - When Will I Be Famous by Bros not being certified when that's surely their most remembered single. Wham Last Christmas certifications confused me a bit - the database has two dates for the silver certification? Why would that be? Silver - 01.12.1984 Gold - 01.12.1984 Platinum - 01.01.1985 Silver - 22.07.2013 2xPlatinum - 28.12.2018 3xPlatinum - 27.11.2020 4xPlatinum - 10.12.2021 5xPlatinum - 09.12.2022 |

Surprised at the Backstreet Boys to be honest - they certainly felt bigger, but I guess a lot of that was due to US success.

Amazing work Jay!!!
One little omission I noticed is the silver certified Who Do You Love by The Chainsmokers & 5 Seconds of Summer, from the latter's list! |

would assume MN8 and New Edition had some certified singles? Maybe even ultimate kaos?

Re: Wham!- I imagine all the 80s certs are for the double A-side- the latter ones are for sales of Last Christmas only. Thank you! It's a shame that so many albums and singles mustn't have the certifications they technically deserve to have. I wonder why Wham Last Christmas' more recent certs would have jumped from Silver to 2xPlatinum without having a repeat of Gold and Platinum Amazing work Jay!!! One little omission I noticed is the silver certified Who Do You Love by The Chainsmokers & 5 Seconds of Summer, from the latter's list! Thanks for letting me know! BPI had them as '5 Seconds Of' in the Who Do You Love entry so it didn't come up for me when I searched their full name! would assume MN8 and New Edition had some certified singles? Maybe even ultimate kaos? Let Loose BB Mak Added MN8, New Edition and Let Loose, thanks for mentioning these! Nothing for Ultimate Kaos or BBMak! |

Fantastic job Jay! Well Done! So proud to see Westlife at no3 and no2 in singles and albums. They are the biggest artist in those lists coming from the Europpean Union.

I overlooked that album (Bros were quite hard to search in the database lol - I should have looked on Wikipedia though). I'll edit that in now. Where are London Boys? I'll include them now! I hadn't heard of them before (my 80s knowledge can be patchy). How tragic that they died in a car crash |
