Taylor Swift claims 2022's Official biggest Americana album with evermore.

Taylor tops the end-of-year Official Americana Albums Chart powered by Sweet Home Alabama with her ninth studio LP, as Bruce Springsteen's 2022 release Only The Strong Survive takes the Number 2 spot. Bruce - known affectionately as 'The Boss' - managed this in less then two months, the record having being released on November 11.

His 21st studio album, Only The Strong Survive also peaked at Number 2 on the Official Albums Chart upon its release last year.

In third place in the year-end list is Phoebe Bridgers, with her second studio release Punisher. The Californian singer-songwriter scored her first Official UK Top 10 album with the record upon its release, debuting at Number 6.

It's Frank Turner who claims 2022's biggest UK Americana album of the year, with his ninth studio LP FTHC - an initialism for Frank Turner Hardcore - landing at Number 6 on the overall end-of-year list.

FTHC topped the Official Albums Chart upon its release in February 2022.

Elsewhere, Marcus Mumford's solo debut (self-titled) enjoys a Top 10 placing at Number 7, as Bear's Den land at Number 17 with Blue Hours.

Bristol-born singer-songwriter Yola is at Number 25 with the sublime Stand For Myself, while fellow Bristolian Katy J Pearson boasts the year's 31st biggest-seller with Sound of the Morning.

Brighton artist Passenger sees his collection Birds That Flew and Ships That Sailed enter the year-end Top 40 (32), as does Laura Marling's Song for Our Daughter (36).

And, finally, Elles Bailey makes 2022's Top 40 with her fifth studio LP Shining in the Half Light (39).

The obvious question of course being why is 'evermore' here but not 'folklore'...

Seems like a pretty nebulously defined 'genre' anyway.

It's not exactly a much talked about 'genre' so I'm surprised they'd do an article about it!

Americana Albums Chart powered by Sweet Home Alabama, what does even mean
Don't think anybody in the list fits in the Americana tag imho
It's more like a list of US-centric singer-songwriters
and certainly Folklore should be #1

Well it’s a chart for apparently “Americana” albums, sponsored by some company called Sweet Home Alabama!

I've been into pop music for ages yet there is this genre I've never heard of all this time?

I did a quick Google. Maybe it's a slightly useful category given how many genre-blending/undefined songs there are these days.

It seems to just be a kind of catch-all term for a lot of vaguely country-ish/folk-ish singer-songwriter music. Think there is a good reason it's not a more widely used term, I don't think there's anything on this list that isn't better described by a different genre laugh.gif

I feel like Marcus Mumford, First Aid Kit, Gang Of Youths etc should be disqualified on principle, though v funny to see the latter described as such heehee.gif

Perhaps the intern who’s putting together the data for these things keeps missing off the top row of the spreadsheet. Hence Folklore missing from this and Dandelions from the non Top 40 hits one. laugh.gif
