The Chainsmokers do it again! This one's more in the style of 'Roses' and from the short clip from a live performance is sounding great! (edit: that has been taken down already, but I've linked to a Halsey snapchat which gives about 10 seconds of the song)

The song features Halsey, probably best known here for her BJSC entries 'New Americana' and 'Ghost' as well as her Bieber collab 'The Feeling'.

I wonder how this will do with 'Don't Let Me Down' still being a huge hit. I expect a UK top 75 debut, nothing more - but should be another top 20 eventually depending on its commercial appeal.

I wouldn't say it's horrific but it's probably their weakest release so far. It's just the most middle of the road song in 2016 pop music and the male voice is not the strongest! Not awful but I hoped for something a little better. Might still do okay in the charts?

Huh, i still can't get enough of DLMD and Inside Out is just growing on me a bit...
Closer sounds like a floppy-bop. Top-100? Unlikely.

it's not as terrible as some of you are making it out to be.

I am disappointed though, especially with Drew's vocal taking up half the song. It's not as good as any of their previous hits or the underrated 'Inside Out'.

Yeah it's rather good and the beginning gave me Youngr from BJSC teas I do agree that this uncredited Drew person sounds like he's bored singing in it though Halsey sounds great as per, if only there was a version with Halsey singing the whole thing? it might flop in commercial terms though.

And both artists have had better songs too

Not sure what a "hit" sounds like these days outside the obvious, but for me it sounds perfect mid-tempo end of summer..

On first listen, this was a HUGE step down from Don't Let Me Down. It's a shame because The Chainsmokers/Halsey on paper looked like a recipe for a surefire banger. Maybe it'll grow but I have nothing making me want to return initially.

Don't Let Me Down wasn't harmed by the fact Roses was impacting early on in its release. It will be fine.

Roses/DLMD was a weird one. It was if Roses never really did take off proper & in the end IT was the one in fact being swallowed by DLMD despite the latter coming afterwards!

I really like this a lot, even though it sounds like everything else that's smashed this year there's something slightly charming about it for me, perhaps the punchy melody or Halsey, who still sounds exactly like Lena Meyer-Landrut to me.

Oh I didn't realise there was a thread for this, first time I've set foot in this forum I think

I really like Closer tbh but it took a few plays to really grow and I do admit it is kinda dull and I wish the male vocals were by somebody else (that VMA performance ) but I love Halsey's voice on it and she no doubt makes the track, if she wasn't on it I probably wouldn't have given it the time of day after the first listen ooops

Also looking forward to this Bebe Rexha collab?! ADORE her so it will be interesting to see how that goes. They really are picking the right people to collaborate with

This is one of the biggest turnarounds for a song that I have had in recent times! I was hating this for a few weeks due to thinking that the drop was jarring and that the male vocal was monotonous, instead wishing Halsey sang the whole thing. HOWEVER it has clicked and I'm so on board now! I appreciate the vocal contributions of Chainsmokers guy now (the playful offerings from both him and Halsey are essential to make it what it is) and the drop is sounding pretty cool now I'm used to it. It's quite quirky and retro sounding, like maybe a noise you'd hear in a retro game looped and turned into a drop. Also I really adore the lyrics now, they're somewhat endearing and fun. Woop woop.

It's finally clicked for me too! I wouldn't call it a huge turnaround as I always loved the hand claps and found it pretty catchy but it's definitely kept growing on me. And this is coming from someone who has never liked Halsey
