Hayley Williams has announced a new non-Paramore project that we will first hear from in January, I'm excited!

Posted by: myxxd 28th December 2019, 01:29 AM

Why she needs to cross it out? Just a style?

Posted by: WhoChristmassy 28th December 2019, 01:31 AM

Yes tongue.gif

Posted by: linds 28th December 2019, 02:45 PM

Just came here to post this v topic but you beat me to it! laugh.gif I'm v hyped, idk what to expect really, maybe something v indie or even acoustic? I imagine Taylor and Zac will have helped produce it but if that's the case I wonder why Hayley is releasing it as a solo project rather than as some Paramore stuff?

Posted by: ChristmaSteve201 28th December 2019, 08:26 PM

Hayley ❤️

Posted by: Bré 28th December 2019, 10:53 PM

Not sure what to expect from this being a solo Hayley Williams project rather than Paramore but excited nonetheless!!

Posted by: ...ready for it 29th December 2019, 12:00 AM

I'm very interested.

Looks like it's called 'Petals For Armor' - she shared a post from it to her Instagram story last night.

I saw fans work out that was the title ages ago, people are good at this detective stuff huh?! I love the name though and the fact you can spell out Paramore from the letters as well

Posted by: Dextmas Lights 5th January 2020, 07:45 AM

So incredibly hyped

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 6th January 2020, 11:39 PM

Something coming on the 22nd! (Most likely the single I'd imagine)

First single is titled 'Simmer'.

Excited! I hope the song and video are great.

Posted by: linds 21st January 2020, 01:57 PM

There's people saying she's releasing it under her own name because of the insta caption she put "Simmer by Hayley Williams" so there's now doubt about what Petals For Armor actually is, perhaps it's an album/ep title instead??

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 21st January 2020, 02:02 PM

Yeah I'm not sure yet! I'll change the title accordingly when we find out.

I hope it's under Hayley as the name recognition will help it out.

Posted by: linds 21st January 2020, 02:17 PM

It will be a shame if she drops 'of paramore' from it though which she usually has on solo project iirc, but then Paramore can be spelled from the letters in Petals For Armor so I guess in a way it's still there even if it's the album name or whatever :')

Posted by: Juan Carlos 21st January 2020, 02:31 PM

FYI, this is the link of the single which should properly work tomorrow and it's basically under Hayley's name and not under Petals For Armor.

Posted by: linds 21st January 2020, 03:17 PM

I'm hoping it will be up at midnight if it's being released everywhere then ?

I think a couple of the collabs are just 'Hayley Williams' like the American Football and New Found Glory ones.

It's midnight in Aus/NZ right now, and there hasn't been anything yet on that front. So I think it'll be midnight US time, which is about 5am for us I think.

Posted by: gavindeejay 21st January 2020, 04:29 PM

Colour me excited for this! I hope it's really good!

Posted by: Liаm 21st January 2020, 04:36 PM

I didn't think she'd do a whole US midnight time thing, usually it's the really really big artists who do that but I guess it could just be at some point in the daytime too like on Beats1 or sth

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 21st January 2020, 04:36 PM

I have a feeling it's going to be really poppy or really heavy - I'd be happy with either!

Posted by: linds 21st January 2020, 04:52 PM

In expecting something along the indie/acoustic lines

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 21st January 2020, 08:31 PM

Video premieres at 19:30 tomorrow! (which also confirms it's being released as Hayley Williams - as well as being on a new YouTube channel for her).

'Simmer' has been written by Hayley, Taylor York (of Paramore!) and Joey Howard - and has been produced by Taylor.

Posted by: linds 21st January 2020, 11:05 PM

Even more bizarre that they're not releasing it under the Paramore name when it's basically a Paramore song with Taylor and Joey's input!

I see both Brian and Lindsey have worked on the video as well wub.gif

It's just a Paramore song without Zac's drums laugh.gif

Posted by: linds 22nd January 2020, 11:03 AM

Legit but I wouldn't be surprised if he did drum on the track laugh.gif

Posted by: linds 22nd January 2020, 11:07 AM

Was there not something about Paramore not being under FBR anymore? I vaguely remember something about that... Hayley has always been signed to Atlantic as a soloist for some reason so maybe that's why this is being put out under her name rather than paramore's? thinking.gif

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 22nd January 2020, 01:18 PM

Yeah I've heard a lot about that, but haven't found any actual confirmation yet

Posted by: linds 22nd January 2020, 01:58 PM

No me either, it still says they're signed to FBR on their Wikipedia etc, I think the only clue that they weren't was their songs were moved onto their own yt channel I think

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 22nd January 2020, 02:13 PM

Hayley is on Annie Mac's show tonight! Hopefully there will be lots of details on the project there.

(and I hope it means Radio 1 will playlist it!)

Posted by: linds 22nd January 2020, 07:33 PM

I split my break at work just so I could listen!! ITS SOOOOO GOOD! cry.gif

It's like synthy indie pop and I am soooooo here for all of it wub.gif

Posted by: blacksquare 22nd January 2020, 07:41 PM

The production is fantastic — sparse, moody, and great vocal inflections throughout. I'm not sure what I expected but I like this.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 22nd January 2020, 07:44 PM

Album titled "Petals For Amour" is releasing on May 8th!

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 22nd January 2020, 08:06 PM

Simmer is decent, but a bit dull. I'd rather have new Paramore music as I don't think I'll be coming back to this one much.

Still, I'm interested in the album.

Posted by: linds 22nd January 2020, 10:15 PM

Genuinely love this more with each listen, the video is stunning too wub.gif

Posted by: Cucumberella 22nd January 2020, 10:28 PM

one of hayley's best vocal turnouts ohmy.gif the production is great too. it'll be a grower but yes i'm really liking this direction.

Posted by: Liаm 22nd January 2020, 10:35 PM

I'm not 100% sold, her vocal is amazing (but you could say that for anything she sings) but idk I just wanted more sad.gif It's probs a grower.

Posted by: gavindeejay 22nd January 2020, 10:57 PM

This is very different to what I expected from her. I like it, her voice is great. Looking forward to the album coming out.

Posted by: HarryEzra 23rd January 2020, 12:51 PM

I am immersed by how dark it sounds, I wonder if the rest of the album will be like this because I low key hope so as Simmer is amazing wub.gif

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 23rd January 2020, 02:34 PM

Simmer has actually grown on me a lot after listening to it a few more times, the fantastic production on it particularly stands out!

Posted by: Envoirment 23rd January 2020, 05:09 PM

"Simmer" is fantastic and the video is really good. I hope the album will be just as good. wub.gif

Posted by: linds 23rd January 2020, 09:08 PM

I think this definitely sets the tone for the rest of the album, you can tell she wrote it whilst in a dark place so I'm sure the other songs will have the same sort of themes, it's kinda nice to have angsty Hayley back but showing that in a completely different way from how we've seen it come out in Paramore music

Obviously Simmer is about her dealing with her feelings of anger etc over what Chad Gilbert (her ex husband) did to her but apparently he was reposting New Found Glory fans doing some Instagram filter thing to his story but two of them were listening to Simmer in the background and it had the "and if my child needed protection from a f***er like that man, I'd sooner gut him 'cause nothing cuts like a mother" line in it laugh.gif laugh.gif

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 23rd January 2020, 09:14 PM

I quite like NFG, and knew Chad and Hayley dated for a long time before marrying but didn't realise why they broke up

Posted by: linds 24th January 2020, 01:55 PM

Yea I think he cheated on her but he's already engaged to someone else, he was married to someone before Hayley as well and I think the reason the split was bc of him cheating too but who knows for sure I guess kink.gif

Posted by: Dexton 25th January 2020, 04:07 AM

I like this, it’s a grower for sure but it’s getting there. I (like most others tbh) would prefer new Paramore material but this will is perfectly fine until then tongue.gif

Posted by: linds 25th January 2020, 09:53 AM

Apparently we're getting new Paramore stuff once Hayley is finished with this project but who knows when that'll be kink.gif

Posted by: Burns 25th January 2020, 10:59 AM

I really quite like this on first listen actually, if it's a grower then I'll end up loving it. I don't tend to take much notice on first listens so this is promising.

Posted by: Auld Lang Peen 26th January 2020, 03:02 PM

Oh my god this is woeful!

Bring back Paramour!!

Why do we need yet another female singer singing across some cheap drum beat machine production with a strained voice? The pop music just really brings out her vocal weakness. The lyrics are trite too. It's not as bad as one of the worst ever songs, Are You Going To Stay The Night?! Woahahao Why You Gonna Stay The Night? but it's along those lines. Really bad. She needs to go back to the band.

Posted by: Bjork 26th January 2020, 05:41 PM

oh love it, and I don't even like Paramore

Posted by: Bré 27th January 2020, 12:09 AM

Wasn't exactly sure what to expect from this on first listen but I am liking it, think it'll be a grower as well! Is that her humming in the background throughout or just an instrumental sound that kind of sounds like it x it sounds good anyway, it's reminding me a little bit of Lorde's 'Yellow Flicker Beat'.

Posted by: linds 27th January 2020, 12:23 AM

I think it's her humming but I'm not sure, just a guess based on how they turned her breathing into a rhythmic part too so that would make sense tbf

Posted by: Iz~ 27th January 2020, 02:18 AM

her vocals are stunning, and that's a really creative beat. that breathing and the good production definitely makes it stand out it a lovely way.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 27th January 2020, 10:26 PM

Well this was unexpected!

Posted by: Envoirment 27th January 2020, 10:41 PM

Perhaps another song to follow soon? ohmy.gif

Posted by: linds 27th January 2020, 10:43 PM

She's gonna f*** us all up at this rate

I love how dark and artsy this all is!

'Leave It Alone' is out now!!

Posted by: Cucumberella 30th January 2020, 09:46 PM

Posted by: Bré 1st February 2020, 09:39 PM

Already growing to really love 'Simmer' now and 'Leave It Alone' is sounding great on first listen too, consider me excited for this album! She's really nailing the ~atmosphere~ on these singles.

Album artwork!!

She also said we're getting more songs and another video tomorrow when preorders open ohmy.gif

Posted by: HarryEzra 6th February 2020, 12:28 PM

The artwork isn't what I was hoping it be, ngl I expected it to be petal themed but it's good.

Also that dua lips cover is a beaut wub.gif

Posted by: linds 6th February 2020, 02:22 PM

I love the cover mainly bc she's turned something that's a constant reminder of a hurtful time into literal art. The squares on her fingers are cover ups of her ex husband's initials so it's a bold move from her to make that the focal point of her album art, I also love that the photograph is really raw, she has no makeup on etc it's all v symbolic of what petals for armor is about - it's well seen Lindsey Byrnes took it as she is such a talented photographer wub.gif

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 6th February 2020, 05:25 PM

'Petals For Armor I' EP is out now!

1. Simmer
2. Leave It Alone
3. Cinnamon
4. Creepin'
5. Sudden Desire

Interesting that we have 5 tracks out already - wonder if they will all be on the album?

Posted by: linds 6th February 2020, 06:34 PM

This is SO GOOD!!! I wasn't sure at first but damn when it kicks in!!!!

Omg the whole ep?! I imagine the album will be a separate release, similar to what pvris are doing wub.gif

SUDDEN DESIRE HAS KILLED ME

Posted by: *CENSORED* 8th February 2020, 01:22 PM

i just CANNOT at 2/3rd of iamamiwhoami's body of work (kin and bounty) being video inspirations for this. it doesn't seem coincidental at all because I can count at least FIVE videos that had scenes pretty much copied from there just in Cinnamon and Simmer! it's kinda embarrassing. why did they think an artist with such a huge cult following wouldn't notice that?

sure jan

i can believe she didn't know about Jonna personally but the similarities are too big to argue really. whoever thought of the idea for the videos must've seen her work before, I'm SO sure.

Posted by: linds 8th February 2020, 09:59 PM

The similarities (at least the ones I've seen highlighted on twitter) are a stretch though like filming in minimalistic houses or forests, using imagery from nature etc they're pretty generic especially for low budget music videos etc. I think Hayley is genuine in what she said in her video and if you know the backstory behind this body of work and how it came about it makes no sense for any of it to have been plagiarised :/ I think if there was any truth in ionna's claims she could have delt with it privately and professionally rather than stooping to twitter to put out an indirect tweet, it'll have gotten her a bit of attention though.

Posted by: *CENSORED* 9th February 2020, 09:33 AM

Mainstream artists do it ALL the time and always claim they don’t do this shit even though it’s obviously not true. They will always get away with it too just because it’s the numbers game and artists like Jonna don’t have the same reach and resources. I think that calling out plagiarism publicly like this makes the playing field a bit more leveled as the label’s private response would’ve certainly been either silence or “lol bitch Who r u again? Talk to us when you have a million insta followers”.

I can’t at most of Paramore loons on twitter claiming she didn’t do shit having never even seen the videos being referred to........ :|

Posted by: *CENSORED* 9th February 2020, 09:40 AM

Also it doesn’t mean there was no plagiarism if there’s a certain special meaning behind each story - you can put whatever spin on anything and work a particular scene into your narrative. Jonna always has meaning behind everything too (surprise surprise!) and each video is part of the story.

I don't think that is fair, especially as most of the 'attention' is people discrediting her art and insulting her on Twitter. It's clearly a frustrating situation as an independent artist, and they're always at a disadvantage legally and privately.

It's less about generic shots and how the entire visual storytelling is similar — it has become increasingly apparent with each video. Perhaps the comparisons are easier to spot if you're someone who has followed iamamiwhoami from the beginning — it's undeniable to me, and obviously others too.

I do believe she genuinely didn't know, but that doesn't stop someone on her team knowing. The production company and director follow iamamiwhoami on Youtube.

Attention both good and bad, a lot of Paramore fans who didn't know her will have checked out her work out of curiousity at the very least. I didn't know who she was until all this even though I'd heard of iamwhoiam.

It's like Hayley said in her video, this stuff happens all the time - art is always gonna inspire other art whether the artist directly knows of the influence or not like I saw a post comparing both Hayley and jonnas stuff to bjork, kate bush etc even lady gaga with the bath visual. There's always gonna be some way you can trace stuff back, it doesn't mean it's plagiarism and I genuinely think if Hayley knew of jonna beforehand or that her team knew of her she would have credited. I still don't think the similarities are that apparent but then im not as familiar with jonna or iamwhoiam.

Hayley isn't exactly mainstream either, especially as a solo artist even if her name is more known but like even the way she's rolled out this album with giving so many songs at once, releasing it in parts, dropping songs in the middle of the day/week etc it's clear she doesn't care about numbers or views or doing it by the book to get maximum attention. I genuinely believe this album only exists as a means to help Hayley deal with the stuff she's written about which is what I meant by it not making sense for her to intentionally copy someone else - something people who have followed Hayley/Paramore for a while will probs agree with just knowing how it all came together. I hate the twitter Stan culture of putting artists and fan bases against one another when shit like this happens like it's unfortunate but I really don't think Hayley is to blame here, if anyone is it will be her label or the likes as has been mentioned above :/

First of all, *iamamiwhoami.

I don't think anyone was saying Hayley is a mainstream whore who is only here for chart hits and coins. This has nothing to do with plagiarism. I really believe Hayley herself wasn't in the know but this would mean that her team decided on the execution of the videos and played a HUGE role. So this is all a bit "and i ooop".

26k+ instagram followers vs 2m+. Several Top 40 hits in the US/UK with two Top 2 albums in the US. And she was number ONE in the US 10 years ago come on! Jonna/iamamiwhoami had none even denting Top 100. I wouldn't pull a 'she's not mainstream either' card. She isn't Gaga but she has a FAR bigger audience she can reach. With active Paramore fanbase migrating to the solo project she already had a huge number on board before she was even able to release anything.

It seems more like quickly skimming through an artists work to find something to discredit their Tweet than genuine curiosty — going from all of the mentions on Twitter at least.

Of course, it's near impossible to create something truly original and art will always inspire other artists — subconsciously or not, and Jonna included. I think this situation is different though as the visual storytelling has become increasingly similar to one artist in particular — an independent artist with a small following the production company actively followed and knew of.

Like I said, I don't think Hayley knew and I'm not trying to discredit her album. I'm sure the work is all very personal to her, but someone on her team has been very inspired and perhaps hoped it wouldn’t be noticed.

I wasn't pulling any sort of card and I'm not trying to blindly defend like if the evidence is there the evidence is there I just don't think it's as straight forward as Hayley stealing someone else's work and I'm just explaining my thoughts on it - we obviously come from very opposite ends of the issue but let me just say now I'm not going to get into an argument over it, I'm only discussing it so you don't need to be so sharp with your points etc, I get what you're saying laugh.gif but yea Paramore are huge in their scene and have made a name for themselves, of course I realise Hayley is known not just within the Paramore fanbase but she's done collaborations before, I'm sure most people know her as paramore's front woman at least even if they don't know their music etc so I'm not saying her and jonna are on the same level at all. I said it myself, I didn't know who jonna was even as is the case with a lot of people unless they follow iamamiwhoami, I imagine.

It's just unfortunate because obviously on one hand you've got jonna upset for feeling like her work is being exploited but on the other side Hayley will feel kinda betrayed if it comes back that someone has purposely tried to replicate what jonna has done. I think Hayley is an artist who wants everything to be her own though and have her own mark and ensure she's the one calling the shots so for her to go along with a concept that came from her label seems a bit odd but hey maybe she thought it was completely original and loved the idea. I know she's been inspired in general by nature and sort of obscure representations of femininity so maybe she was talking about that and whoever she was explaining that to made the connection to jonna. I really don't think she was bullshitting us in that insta video. The thing is were never gonna know for sure at this stage what happened unless someone does come forward but hopefully the issue can be resolved amicably.

SO much yes to this, Caroline's tweet suggests a remix but still here for it!

Posted by: linds 11th March 2020, 11:30 PM

I know she's got other artists involved with the album too which is exciting! I love Caroline as well so I'm looking forward to whatever she's done with simmer laugh.gif

Hayley also confirmed that a song 'Roses/Lotus/Violet/Iris' on the album will feature Boygenius! (the project of Lucy Dacus, Phoebe Bridgers and Julien Baker).

the song with Boygenius

Posted by: linds 19th March 2020, 04:17 PM

was just about to post this! it's not bad but it's not hit me from the first listen, her vocals towards the end of it though >>>

Posted by: Jade 21st March 2020, 07:25 PM

I wasn't feeling anything from this project so far (I'm a Paramore fan so I didn't like that this was the case) but 'Roses/Lotus/Violet/Iris' is the first one to click with me ohmy.gif yay!

This has grown on me so much wub.gif

'Over Yet' is out today!

Over Yet is by FAR my favourite of this project. So good <3

Posted by: Steve201 3rd April 2020, 10:37 AM

Is this an official 2nd single?

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 4th April 2020, 09:45 AM

Easily my favourite so far!

It reminds me of '5 Colours in Her Hair' by McFly at the start laugh.gif

Posted by: Bré 🐠 8th April 2020, 11:49 PM

I've been enjoying nearly everything I've heard from her solo stuff so far - I thought 'Roses/Lotus/Violet/Iris' was kind of just more of the same as the singles from the 'Petals For Armor I' EP (really liked it and all but not quite as much as 'Simmer' and 'Leave It Alone') but 'Over Yet' is a welcome switchup, much more upbeat! Almost has a bit of a HAIM flavour to it.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 9th April 2020, 01:17 PM

'My Friend' is out at 5pm BST!

Posted by: HospitalWard* 15th April 2020, 05:22 PM

Workout with Hayley Williams!

I love her

Posted by: Jade 🐠 16th April 2020, 09:47 AM

'Over Yet' has been creeping up on me more and more, new favourite of the era wub.gif I get the HAIM comparison, specifically to 'If I Could Change Your Mind'.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 16th April 2020, 08:33 PM

'Why We Ever' released today - looks like we're getting this song by song laugh.gif

Posted by: Infludexton* 17th April 2020, 09:03 AM

Over Yet is very quickly becoming a favourite from here! Eagerly awaiting this album *.*

With 'Dead Horse' out now, PFA Vol. II is now complete - I think this may be my favourite song from it.

Posted by: Dexton 10th May 2020, 01:16 PM

The whole album is out now, it's laid out as 3 discs on Spotify with PFA1 being Disc 1 and PFA2 being Disc 2, then 5 new songs are on Disc 3. It's a strange way to release an album releasing 10/15 songs before it's out though laugh.gif That said this is a really strong album, I'd say Pure Love is my favourite from the new bunch but that could easily change

Posted by: Bré 14th May 2020, 02:50 AM

If this had just stopped after the first two EPs it'd have been pretty close to an all killer no filler 10 track album (the only songs among those first 10 that I wasn't super sold on were 'Cinnamon', 'Creepin'' and 'My Friend', and the latter two are both sounding better than I remember now when listening through the album in full). As it were, listening to this almost felt like I was just listening to a deluxe version of that 10 track album with a bunch of throwaway cuts tagged on the end, the only one of the five new songs that comes close to the quality of the rest for me is 'Sugar On The Rim' which was a bit of an unexpected bop (sounds a bit sonically out of place with most of the rest of the album, randomly straying into camp dance bop territory, but I'll take it). The other 4 new songs are all ok but I don't really feel any need to go back to any of them.

Still, there are plenty of great songs on here so I can't really complain too much, just a bit of a shame that the ultra drawn out release strategy kind of killed a lot of the anticipation for the official album release and then it ultimately didn't really feel worth it when getting to the new songs at the end. Maybe I'd have been more receptive to the new songs if she just continued with the dripfeeding so I'd then be paying more individual attention to each song? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Disc 2 > Disc 1 > Disc 3 x (and 'Over Yet' is easily my fave song from the album overall, followed by 'Simmer', 'Roses/Lotus/Violet/Iris' and 'Leave It Alone' <3)

I agree with this to a certain extent. Pure Love has really clicked with me as has Taken but less so. As much as I like Sugar On The Rim it's so extremely out of place here laugh.gif There are a few moments on this album where you think "oh okay, yeah I can imagine this being on After Laughter" but then there's Sugar On The Rim that just throws all expectations out the window! I like it but wow what a shock

Posted by: Tangela 17th May 2020, 11:10 AM

Had a listen to this on Friday, I was disappointed - not because it was bad, but because it went totally over my head. When I first heard "Simmer" I was impressed, but after a few weeks I started feeling irritated whenever it shuffled on, and nothing else has stuck. The album bored me to no end. I might give it another shot over the coming week because I'm surprised that this is how I felt.

Posted by: Liаm 17th May 2020, 01:21 PM

I loved this more than I expected, wasn't hugely taken by a lot of the songs on their own as they were released but as a whole I like the 3 part concept, there's a distinct feeling to each part that you move through with the album. Sudden Desire, Pure Love, Over Yet and Sugar On The Rim are the highlights for me!

Posted by: Jade 24th May 2020, 03:40 PM

I still need to check out the whole thing but I'm obsessed with 'Sugar On The Rim' after being recommended it. wub.gif

Loving this new Hot Chip remix of Dead Horse!

Posted by: Steve201 20th June 2020, 10:38 PM

I picked 'Pure Love' as my current single from the album as I thought they'd given up on any new release, one of my favs!

"Petals For Armor: Self-Serenades" EP is out on December 18th with acoustic versions of 'Simmer' and 'Why We Ever', with a new song 'Find Me Here'! There's a vinyl release, and it's also confirmed to be on streaming.
